Season 2 of Navigating Narcissism premieres on March 16th!
Terra Newell's name became nationally known after she killed her stepfather in self-defense; John Meehan known from Dirty John. Earlier this season, Terra's mother, Debra, came on the show and shared her experience during that tumultuous time. In this episode, we hear directly from Terra, who shares her point of view. While she experienced massive trauma, she learned how to heal and help others. Listen to part 1 to learn about Terra and fellow survivor Collier Landry’s story.
I want to hear from you, too. Have a toxic topic you want me to explore? Email me at askdrramani@redtabletalk.com. I just might answer your questions on air.

Terra wasn't given near enough respect in any of the dramatized shows/ docs. Terra should have been featured more than the monster. She's the hero of the story. She is badass. Much love and respect for Terra

I find Terra’s experience & the manner in which she “lived” through all of this emotional & physical trauma to show incredible strength, resilience, and courage & amazingly incredible. I have nothing but admiration for Terra, but as for the naysayers, I feel sad.

Wow. Debbie said in her interview on this show that she was certain John meant to kidnap Terra and never meant to kill her. She repeated this. Obviously he tried to kill her! He stabbed her multiple times. The mom was sadly in so much denial. It makes me wonder how much denial any of us are in.

This young girl is a true Shero. Her composure is absolutely breathtaking. I am though saddened by all she's been through. Her spirituality is impressive and a great coping tool. She has wisdom beyond her years.

I am so thankful for Dr. Ramani. She is a gift from the Lord, and the best Dr. I know that specializes on malignant narcissists, and psychopaths.

"Trauma informed care in those emergency settings is so important!" - Dr Ramani. Yes. Emergency care staff need this information critically!

I have thought about this horrifying attack and how her intelligence saved her. Her zombie stab was brilliant and effective, as a small female I recognize that hitting in the correct spot can save your own life. Lesson learned. I'm grateful she had the wherewithal and courage to protect herself and got him in the eye. What a story no on wants, she handled it with strength and bravery, I hope her heart heals. Thanks for sharing and letting us hear this story from her viewpoint.

Terra is a warrior. She was so logical and clear-headed about the whole situation, even when being attacked.

The bit about people criticising got me, I have experienced similar usually from people who have never experienced any real hardship, abuse or trauma in their lives and im so over people who never dare say the things they say hidden behind an anonymous keyboard to the persons face.Heal well Terra have a blessed life

These podcasts finally popped up for me to notice. I understand the term generational abuse and trauma. It is a relief when the abusers die. A couple toxic relatives passed on and I felt relief. I am unfortunately having to deal somewhat with a covert malignant abusive sibling that's in charge of the wills. The blessing is that I finally connected the dots and realize the lengths it has gone to to be the author of chaos in my life. I didn't suspect anything, then couldn't believe my own eyes that he poisoned me, then found it very difficult to tell anyone. Be didn't know I saw what he did and I never confronted him about that incident. There have been other incidents. Its also very difficult to prove in law as whatever he used mimicked other symptoms. I decided to go no contact, once there was an obvious provable pattern, it became apparent he was trying to steal from me even though he supposedly has a very lucrative career. These types are pathologically envious and stop at nothing to harm their target. I think it is best to go on the offensive and be prepared covertly. I did finally get to the point where I reported him to the police. These things do not operate alone. They plot with like minded criminals. Of course he has discredited me and I know he operated in tandem with abusive relatives to discredit me to my parents. There was abuse throughout the maternal family and yes...generational. so glad I made the decision to go no contact. There's no going back, and that's a relief too. Don't feel guilty about killing these creep nightmares from hell. They don't stop. They escalate their abuses and they always harm others. I married a psychopath and got out quick. So yes I finally learned boundaries and self worth. These pieces of shit most often enlist others to set you up and help. You did the world a favour.

Throughout this podcast , Terra helped me learn sso much about my own behavior responses to years of fear knowing someone is looking over your shoulder planning your mental or physical demise. She was not crazy. Neither am I, it seems. I caught myself rocking Terra and myself the entire time with difficulty breathing. She is a blessed, dear heart, with tremendous tenacity and faith. May peace fill her remaining years and have moments of joy each day. God sent her openness to me.

  • @angelawade1445

Terra talks so sweetly. I am so glad she was strong and able to defend herself against John.

Terra you are a strong woman, thank you for sharing your story, it neans a lot for me.

Oh my word! I was following this case when it aired on TV and these girls are just amazing! What a blessing these daughters are looking out for their mom to the very end. I dated a guy like this but he actually had money, it was from an insurance claim but he was rich above anyone’s imagination. My daughter hated him, she was ten years old at the time and she knew he was horrible. She used to yell at him and say “ You’re not going to marry my mother!” I only recently found out he used to slap her hand and say “you better not tell your mother or I’ll do it to her “! I was totally shocked! She’s 19 now and she barely calls or talks to me. These people are so sick. I’m very happy for Terra’s quick thinking and courage. And I’m glad she’s ok. Love her-she’s a rockstar!❤
