I do think "disaster" is just a bit hyperbolic, but then this is one of many channels that makes their money on hyperbolic clickbait. I definitely noticed technical rough-edges in the demo, and would prefer a more consistent framerate, but there are far worse ports on the Switch, and it was for the most part very playable.

It's very sub-par, sure, certainly for $40, but you could have fun with it if you have no other way to play the game. The same can be said for a lot of Switch ports.
whats weird is i played the demo and i saw in between frames of animation between standing and proning. But.... suddenly that stopped and it just snaps to prone?
First thing I noticed on the switch was the massive button lag especially for the jump. Fps drop I haven’t noticed, will need to try again, but the other issue was after continue on arcade mode the music did not play only had sound effects.
I did play both the steam version, and the switch version, the steam version (steam deck) ran very well but when I played the switch version the frame rate was low and I got random pauses in different areas of the level. hope they fix this
I played the full demo, I like the new movements Wayforward added , but I think the option to grab on vertical bars and underside rocks needs to be polish.
I think yeah they could have had an extra frame animation for going prone, but it's not a deal breaker. Neither is the slight pause on a new section loading. If there's lag with the controls, or the framerate causes gameplay issues, then there's a problem.
its because they want the player's movement to be snappy, so they cant have long animations. The enemies can do transitions and stuff because its all scripted.

@@jermainewright1757 I have no stutters on my son's Switch. I just downloaded the demo. It runs smoothly! I have a modern Samsung 4K tv with an excellent processor. The key is to play it on the Game Mode on the tv. You may get stutters playing in standard tv mode.
Just lazy development. Donkey Kong Country TF and Super Mario Wonder look WAY better than this and run at 60fps solid. The Switch is capable of much, much better than this.

It's not just Switch. The game will likely get a day one patch. Also, I feel it will be smooth on the disc or cartridge. Some micro sd cards are slow based on the brand. Sandisk or Samsung is good.

I didn't think the issues (as noticeable as they are) were all that bad on the switch demo at first. I mean it's still playable. But then I played the demo on ps4. After going back and trying the switch again the issues were much more noticeable.

I played the demo and it runs bad. There are frame drops and the graphics on it doesn’t suit this game. Also there are audio issues. The music stops playing. There is a slight delay in the input. 🤷♀️. I don’t like it. 👎

And on my Switch on the second boss, my controller went haywire.....and the controls are a bit more....stiff on Switch. So the thing needs to be fixed on both versions before it comes out, but Switch waa worst. I always buy games of this type on Switch but I'm getting this on my PS5. I mean I have 3 controllers on my playstation. I got like five on my Switch lol i wish it wasn't as bad on the Switch. And the Switch for is 5 dollars cheaper bur ill pay the 5 for a better version

as you notice theres a part of the video that those weird dips didnt happen anymore so maybe beside what i said above, could be shaders in the background as well hope those things get all fixed in full game!

I got zero stutters on my son's Switch! All lies. He never played the demo on Game Mode on on his 4k tv. He may have only played it in handheld. It runs flawlessly on Game Mode on my modern Samsung 4K tv.
Compared to the PS5 and PC Demos, the Switch version runs at a lower Framerate. I expierenced the shudders seen here as well. Hopefully an update will correct the issue.

I played it on Switch and ps4 and the differences were very noticeable. Most of which were frame rates and input lag along with some audio issues as well. The input lag on the switch is very noticeable though. I would be amazed if the performance on the ps5 was less than that of the ps4.
Also, it's not yet complete so I am sure a day one patch will help. I just bought MK 1 on Switch after all the updates and it is awesome on Switch now. 60fps, better looking graphical textures.

It looks like the comment section isn't going the way you thought it would. Seems like most of us loved the demo. This is coming from a massive fan of Contra, Super C and Contra III and I enjoyed it. Definitely buying the full game.
Not to be too harsh but if you are a Contra fan, you'd realize there's more character in one screen of Contra 3 than in the entire first level of this new one. This is the lowest effort cash grab exploit Konami has pulled with yet another one of their beloved legacy franchises I've seen in a while.
1:07 - the Steam store page for the game only mentions local play, so I'd like to know where you're getting the idea that the final version will have online play?
I played it on my switch OLED and it functioned just fine. I didn't notice any drops in frame rate. I played with Lance, but felt it controlled exactly as I expected. I didn't experience the lag that most people are talking about. I've played through the demo a few times now. The only problem I encountered was the seemingly long load time. I do hope that they polish some things up, but I have no reason to doubt Wayforward. Contra 4 was awesome and they did that so I have faith in it.
I redownloaded the demo and played through again. I did finally see some stutter. Some playthroughs were smooth and some would stutter. Very inconsistent. Hopefully that isn't in the full game. Never got the music disappearing issue.
This game on Switch is running at 30fps with drops. There's no reason for that. I recently got Doom Eternal on Switch from LRG and that game is running at a smooth 30 with no hiccups that I've noticed so far and it's rendering A TON more stuff than this game. So that means there's no excuse this game is 30fps and stuttery.

Unreal Engine 4 games on the Switch are notorious for stuttering and sudden chugging frame rates for no particular reason. The Link's Awakening remake is a notorious example of this. I'm not sure what engine this game is using but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that is what is powering it.

This is one of the very few times I dont agree with you. RGT you are wrong about this game. The game is fine the problem is you.(I do know nothing is perfect and things can always be improved) Try looking at all the controls before you review a game,which obviously you didnt do this time.

There are frame rate issues but nothing that really has ruined it for me. I agree that with games like hollow knight, Metroid dread, or prince of persia running so well, wayforward can do better.
I totally agree, yesterday I played on the switch, they should focus on the game running smooth even if they have to sacrifice graphics a little bit. Also I felt very strange the controls, normal bullets hit Me and was hard to avoid. I think there is something strange with the controls.
Thank you for letting me know about this demo! I literally just read an article about The Plucky Squire hoping they’d give a release date… no luck there. The other game I wanted to know its release date was Contra. Disheartened to hear the game is kinda wonky, but hopefully the full version will be better than the demo. Will be buying it either way.
I had no FPS issues on Switch 🤔 maybe it's your capture card? No stutters, frame drops or freezes for me at all and I really enjoyed this demo, a LOT. Maybe because I am playing a fairly new Switch OLED? I am the demographic as well for this game. Looking forward to it. No matter what, it's 100x better than past COntra games when it comes to performance, playability, graphics and so on. But time will tell for the actual story and levels.
I wonder if the graphics are compromised on the Nintendo Switch, like the new MK1's graphics were. I'd be more up for a review on Steam, Xbox or Playstation. I do agree the graphics could be better in this day and age. Like modernising it in the style for Streets if Rage 4 or keeping it retro like TMNT Shredder's revenge or Blazing Chrome. Ps. Played the demo on switch and ps4. There is a noticeable difference. Not only frame rate issues on the switch but I also had some obvious input lag on the switch. It's still playable but the experience was a better one on the ps4, for me at least.
I believe it's time to stop supporting remakes. Because at this point they're just remaking the game and they're not even putting effort into it. They're just reusing somebody's idea over and over again just like the hundredth Batman film and Superman film.

I played the demo on PS5 and I thought it was pretty alright. I was gonna pick it up on switch, but if it has performance issues ill just get it on PS5. Limited run is doing a physical copy so thats nice. They have done a lot of konami games recently.
It runs great on my old launch edition PS4. I noticed you can aim diagnal with the axis stck and pinpoint your target without having to move the character. It makes it easier to aim while climbing walls. I didn't notice any frame drop on the PS4.
Had the same experience. No excuses anymore after seeing how well Prince of Persia ran and looked on the Switch. Clean 60fps even in handheld. I mean if they (Ubisoft) can port that game so well why can't Way forward so the same on this? Fingers crossed the Demo was just a 2 week beta and the release is at least 2x better!
the demo also available on other platforms too, I tried the demo on the ps4 ( base ps4 ) to be precise, and it looks and ran better than the switch version already, so the jannkyness is a switch version problem only. my only complain is that it ran at 30FPS which is odd for a game that looks like mobile game. tought I think the game is decent.

RGT is right. Something very wrong with framerate / frame pacing. It fills like 30 fps + delayed controls. The game is unenjoyable on the switch. I don't think that they can ever fix this.

I played the demo today and had a number of soft lock issues where my characters would get stuck being unable to move at many different spots. There was also some animation and control issues. Not buying on day one. Gonna wait and see if these issues get fixed.
Think it may be a problem on your end man..Just went and downloaded the Demo and absolutely no issues like you were having. Ran fine. The guy was not moving spastic like he was in yours and had zero frame rate issues. You almost ruined my day....Was the only t hing in that direct that even peaked my interest. I don't who this RGT 85 guy is, but he clearly has no idea what he's talking about. This is an absolutely amazing modern refresh of the old original Contra games (Super C was my favorite). The "jankyness" the guy in this video is talking about is not jankyness at all, it's accurate to the original games movements which is awesome and precise as it's intended, and to be honest wouldn't feel like a Contra game otherwise. Me, and my 2 sons (3 and 6 years old) have been playing the demo every night for about an hour before bed. As soon as we complete the demo, we restart it. This is as addictive to all of us just as the original games were to me as a kid, but now with awesome new graphics, a couple of new characters, and some new features. My boys ask me every night like music to my ears "can we play Contra?" 😊😊😊😊😊 We will 1,000,000% be buying the full version when it's released.

i think those dips are loadings bro, it happens when you moving into a diff scene probably your gotta install the demo on a better sd card.
as you notice theres a part of the video that those weird dips didnt happen anymore so maybe beside what i said above, could be shaders in the background as well hope those things get all fixed in full game!

It maybe his SD card. The no name cheap SD cards cause lags. Sandisk ultra or Gigastone, Samsung etc are great.

I noticed when I play normally, I got the stutters but on Game Mode on my modern Samsung 4K tv it runs flawlessly! Stop misleading people RGT! Shame on you! I got zero stutters on my son's Switch! All lies. He never played the demo on Game Mode on on his 4k tv. He may have only played it in handheld. It runs flawlessly on Game Mode on my modern Samsung 4K tv.
Compared to the PS5 and PC Demos, the Switch version runs at a lower Framerate. I expierenced the shudders seen here as well. Hopefully an update will correct the issue.

I played the demo on Switch and PS5. I didn't notice any difference.

I played it on Switch and ps4 and the differences were very noticeable. Most of which were frame rates and input lag along with some audio issues as well. The input lag on the switch is very noticeable though. I would be amazed if the performance on the ps5 was less than that of the ps4.

In fairness I played it on the Xbox Series X so I had no performance issues, so I kinda get it.
Also, it's not yet complete so I am sure a day one patch will help. I just bought MK 1 on Switch after all the updates and it is awesome on Switch now. 60fps, better looking graphical textures.

Nah. It's far from a disaster. It's not perfect, but I thought it was playable on the Switch. Hopefully all of the issues get fixed before launch.

Seems like most of us loved the demo. This is coming from a massive fan of Contra, Super C and Contra III and I enjoyed it. Definitely buying the full game.

Not to be too harsh but if you are a Contra fan, you'd realize there's more character in one screen of Contra 3 than in the entire first level of this new one. This is the lowest effort cash grab exploit Konami has pulled with yet another one of their beloved legacy franchises I've seen in a while.

I enjoyed the demo. I'm actually more excited for the release now.
I was having issues where he would just fall through the floor but I closed out the game and restarted and it worked fine
I played it on my switch OLED and it functioned just fine. I didn't notice any drops in frame rate. I played with Lance, but felt it controlled exactly as I expected. I didn't experience the lag that most people are talking about. I've played through the demo a few times now. The only problem I encountered was the seemingly long load time. I do hope that they polish some things up, but I have no reason to doubt Wayforward. Contra 4 was awesome and they did that so I have faith in it.
I redownloaded the demo and played through again. I did finally see some stutter. Some playthroughs were smooth and some would stutter. Very inconsistent. Hopefully that isn't in the full game. Never got the music disappearing issue.
I noticed the same. It can be good one day and a little questionable the next. Most likely a day one patch. It's Way Forward, I trust them.
This game on Switch is running at 30fps with drops. There's no reason for that. I recently got Doom Eternal on Switch from LRG and that game is running at a smooth 30 with no hiccups that I've noticed so far and it's rendering A TON more stuff than this game. So that means there's no excuse this game is 30fps and stuttery.
Ran really well for me on the Switch. Docked as well.

On the switch, the demo suffers from lag in hand-held mode, and platforming doesn't feel good, you are not being harsh l would say pretty accurate description of this laggy crap, on switch hand-held demo anyway, ill try it on ps5 if theres a demo
Unreal Engine 4 games on the Switch are notorious for stuttering and sudden chugging frame rates for no particular reason. The Link's Awakening remake is a notorious example of this. I'm not sure what engine this game is using but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that is what is powering it.

This is one of the very few times I dont agree with you. RGT you are wrong about this game. The game is fine the problem is you.(I do know nothing is perfect and things can always be improved) Try looking at all the controls before you review a game,which obviously you didnt do this time.

There are frame rate issues but nothing that really has ruined it for me. I agree that with games like hollow knight, Metroid dread, or prince of persia running so well, wayforward can do better.
I totally agree, yesterday I played on the switch, they should focus on the game running smooth even if they have to sacrifice graphics a little bit. Also I felt very strange the controls, normal bullets hit

Thank you for letting me know about this demo! I literally just read an article about The Plucky Squire hoping they’d give a release date… no luck there. The other game I wanted to know its release date was Contra. Disheartened to hear the game is kinda wonky, but hopefully the full version will be better than the demo. Will be buying it either way.

I had no FPS issues on Switch 🤔 maybe it's your capture card? No stutters, frame drops or freezes for me at all and I really enjoyed this demo, a LOT. Maybe because I am playing a fairly new Switch OLED? I am the demographic as well for this game. Looking forward to it. No matter what, it's 100x better than past COntra games when it comes to performance, playability, graphics and so on. But time will tell for the actual story and levels.
I wonder if the graphics are compromised on the Nintendo Switch, like the new MK1's graphics were. I'd be more up for a review on Steam, Xbox or Playstation. I do agree the graphics could be better in this day and age. Like modernising it in the style for Streets if Rage 4 or keeping it retro like TMNT Shredder's revenge or Blazing Chrome.

Played the demo on switch and ps4. There is a noticeable difference. Not only frame rate issues on the switch but I also had some obvious input lag on the switch. It's still playable but the experience was a better one on the ps4, for me at least.

I've played just now on the PC, the framerate didn't drop, looks a little bit cheap though and is pretty expensive(40 bucks I think).
I believe it's time to stop supporting remakes. Because at this point they're just remaking the game and they're not even putting effort into it. They're just reusing somebody's idea over and over again just like the hundredth Batman film and Superman film.
No no it's not like it's always been just take the remakes on a case-by-case basis maybe try not blindly buying every remake that comes out. You don't speak for everyone I personally love being able to get games like Paper Mario Thousand Year Door without having to pay a $150 dollars scalping price. There's so many remakes that do their original games more than Justice like Resident Evil 4 in more than I can even begin to name here. Some remix yes but honestly your comment doesn't even matter I'm going to buy it on PS5 and I'm going to buy it on switch and they will patch it on Switch and then it'll play fine. PS5 demo does not have these issues, stable smooth framerate and no frames missing when crouching.
I played the demo on PS5 and I thought it was pretty alright. I was gonna pick it up on switch, but if it has performance issues ill just get it on PS5. Limited run is doing a physical copy so thats nice. They have done a lot of konami games recently.
Hit down and do it loudly enough that the button press is audible and then look at the screen whilst doing so. What you’re seeing is input lag

I'm confused. Yesterday you were hyped about retromania, and that looked way worse than this game.
It runs great on my old launch edition PS4. I noticed you can aim diagnal with the axis stck and pinpoint your target without having to move the character. It makes it easier to aim while climbing walls. I didn't notice any frame drop on the PS4.
you can do that on the contra games starting from Contra 3 as well, hold the L button or R button, can't remember which one.
WayForward do the Shantae games (and I LOVE those) and they play like a dream. How is this so bad? (in comparison)

As an old school Contra fan, I was hoping for redemption. Konami should have hired Treasure.
Had the same experience. No excuses anymore after seeing how well Prince of Persia ran and looked on the Switch. Clean 60fps even in handheld. I mean if they (Ubisoft) can port that game so well why can't Way forward so the same on this? Fingers crossed the Demo was just a 2 week beta and the release is at least 2x better!
the demo also available on other platforms too, I tried the demo on the ps4 ( base ps4 ) to be precise, and it looks and ran better than the switch version already, so the jannkyness is a switch version problem only.
my only complain is that it ran at 30FPS which is odd for a game that looks like mobile game.

RGT is right. Something very wrong with framerate / frame pacing. It fills like 30 fps + delayed controls. The game is unenjoyable on the switch. I don't think that they can ever fix this.
I can tell you now the ducking animation has already been improved, it has that extra frame you are asking for.
Never played Contra but I like 2D platformers over 3D platformers so I definitely be picking this up in the future

I played the demo today and had a number of soft lock issues where my characters would get stuck being unable to move at many different spots. There was also some animation and control issues. Not buying on day one. Gonna wait and see if these issues get fixed.
Think it may be a problem on your end man..Just went and downloaded the Demo and absolutely no issues like you were having. Ran fine. The guy was not moving spastic like he was in yours and had zero frame rate issues. You almost ruined my day....Was the only t hing in that direct that even peaked my interest. Hope you figure out what is causing your issues buty its def not the software.
It’s a shame of the Switch version but after playing the demo on PS5 I fell in love. This is the best Contra game Konami has put out since what? The snes?! I’m baffled it’s getting a 69 on Metacritic on versions that aren’t the Switch.

I don't who this RGT 85 guy is, but he clearly has no idea what he's talking about. This is an absolutely amazing modern refresh of the old original Contra games (Super C was my favorite). The "jankyness" the guy in this video is talking about is not jankyness at all, it's accurate to the original games movements which is awesome and precise as it's intended, and to be honest wouldn't feel like a Contra game otherwise. Me, and my 2 sons (3 and 6 years old) have been playing the demo every night for about an hour before bed. As soon as we complete the demo, we restart it. This is as addictive to all of us just as the original games were to me as a kid, but now with awesome new graphics, a couple of new characters, and some new features. My boys ask me every night like music to my ears "can we play Contra?" 😊😊😊😊😊 We will 1,000,000% be buying the full version when it's released.
