I went from not caring about the game to downloading the demo and fell in love with the game. Got addicted and hit that 7 1/2 time limit and now I seriously can’t wait to pick this up at GameStop. Can’t wait.
@@pjzelda75 and the game is just gorgeous to look at. Most of the time I do skip the battle animations to speed up time but I’ve caught myself just sit back and see the beautiful animations.

You had me at Vanillaware. Had no idea they were releasing a new project, but now I'm ridiculously excited. One of the most consistent yet underrated devs.
I knew even before I played the demo I was going to like this game because I love turn-based and strategy JRPGs and the demo really hooked me, preordered the collectors edition.
I remember as a kid I played Ogre Battle 64 for the first time. Got it because I loved the way the art looked. But I just couldn't get a handle on it. Then one day, months later, don't even know the reason but I put it in the 64 again and I tried playing it. I don't know how or why but something just clicked and I suddenly got it and just couldn't get enough the game. I'm so absolutely thrilled how close this is to Ogre Battle 64.
Im glad you mentioned Dragon Force. While theres no doubt that Unicorn Overlord is inspired by Ogre Battle; it is clear it also draws inspiration from Dragon Force, and most people fail to mention that. Dragon Force is a hidden gem, ine of the best SRPG of this kind, and unfortunately never made it out of SEGA Saturn.
I underestimated Vanillaware. I bought 13 Sentinels but have not touched it yet. After beating this demo I have full faith in them and will be there day one.

“Was not expecting to like this game” “I absolutely love it” Sponsored by Atlas Aka- “I really like the check I’m receiving from Atlas!” lol in all seriousness, it looks like a good game.
Shining Force, Fire Emblem, and Dragon's Crown all rolled up into one beautiful package. This game is so good! My ONLY gripe is that I wish there was perma-death for characters. It would put more weight on bad decisions and have consequences for just rushing into battle unprepared. Some gamers don't like perma-death but I do. Also the relationship aspects could go deeper.
davidvinc reviewed this too and made me wanna get it, thanks for the double down as a "key i got my taxes lemme get a game or two" nod super into these style games!
Thank you Atlus for reaching out to RGT! The game looks revolutionary and will be a huge influence to the genre moving forward, but it's a niche genre so getting a big content creator to show this game will give it much needed exposure
This game is so well-made and besides the usual positive comments about it, it has that certain touch of vanillaware when it comes to usage of UI; The presentation, transitions and its ease of use is so buttery-smooth and quick and feels very flowy. Btw I played the demo and there's so much content that I ended up thinking that I wasn't playing a demo.
Board the ships. They often go to an island with quests or items, but I havent seen any battles on them. Some of them do have towns with unique stuff though. You can also program their moves based on whatever skills they know. But each character is limited by how many things they can do in an encounter. I found this out the hard way, after getting an awesome new weapon, one of my guys stopped self-healing and instead did an extra attack on a row. So you have to be very mindful of skill priority set ups or "gambits". This game is HEAVILY inspired by Ogre Battle (which is a good thing!) Just compare the game play or even the box art. And anyone who knows Ogre Battle knows that hidden secrets were a big thing in that game. And this one, even in the demo, seems to have its fair share of those as well. From all I have seen and played, this game surpasses the very game it pays homage to in every concievable way! And from me, that's saying something since Ogre Battle was one of my top 5 favorite games of all time from its release till today.
I like that you can do additional battle planning, setting things like what sorts of units things attack, or in what situations they'd use certain skills.
Please take no offense to this. I don't call you a Nintendo RUclipsr. When I describe you and Spawnwave to people. I say Spawnwave is like WWE, technical, and at times dry, you, on the other hand are ECW, edgy, fun, easy to follow, and always surprising. Keep up the good work.

Also good on you RPG85 for covering such a gem of a game from a gem of a studio like Vanillaware. Keep up the good work bud and I hope you enjoy this game in its entirety. This game looks like the Ogre Battle sequel I've wanted for years. I'm also a big fan of the concept of moving squads around the map rather than the Final Fantasy Tactics style small skirmish with 5 or so people per side.
Agreed. This would be glorious as a turn based tactical. It feels a little disconnected simply watching everything. Vanillaware has other games that looks similar but not tactical, you control everything.
@@jjwhy321y3 This game plays the same way Ogre battle does. You pick the tactics and assemble the units, then let it play out. Ogre battle had 4 tactic types(Best, whatever does the most damage of the potential targets, strong, attack the unit with the most hps, weak, attack the weakest hp unit, or leader, attack the leader if possible.), and you could toggle it mid combat to influence where they attack. When you understood the system, you could more or less direct them to attack what you wanted, just with fewer clicks. Picking all the commands for each unit would only slow the game down once you have full parties.
