Great review. You didn't mention the rapport system/conversations. That was one of the things that really cranked up my overall playtime, not just doing them, but also thinking about and deciding on party constellations that supported that.
Vanillaware, the developer, has a huge career refining their craft, they're the Ghibli of videogames. Do check their other games if you dig their style.
Hey there Clayton! Great video! Just an FYI, the creators of this game is the company Vanillaware, Atlus is the distribution company. Both companies make great, high quality games. 13 Sentinels and Odin's Sphere, both fantastic games, were both created and developed by Vanillaware. If you have a Playstation 4 or Playstation 3, I highly recommend Dragon's Crown (another game by Vanillaware) that game is an action RPG beat 'em up, sort of like Shredder's Revenge.
So far this game is pretty excellent. I haven't finished it though because I usually playy Switch at night before bed and I've found that strategy games like this aren't very condusive to me actually sleeping at a reasonable time.
Yeah for real. At least he’s got good taste in video games. This game is fantastic I just finished it and was sad when it ended. If they added more end game content, expansion, something like that it would be just about perfect.
Yessss follow redacted! More commentators need to cross over into non political videos where synergy can grow. Spread this message. Doesn’t have to be video games. Yoga, foodies, history. Whatever your genuine interest is. It will help build the movement
Hello, someone might have mentioned this already - but for tip #7, you do not need to kill all of the individual units to get those honor points - as soon as you complete the battle you’ll see a quick animation showing each one of those enemies dying, and then you’ll get all of the associate honor points all at once right then. So it isn’t absolutely necessary to kill them before the battle unless doing it for fun, or one main point of doing so is if you are very close to upgrading a unit size or promoting a unit and you need just a few more honor points to do so, you could quickly kill a few 1-off enemies to get a few honor points each before completing the large battle. But you definitely do not lose those honor points if you leave the enemies alive, and just do the main battle, you will get them all at the end.
Clayton I never knew you were one of us 😮 when I saw the thumbnail I was sure this was AI haha. It's funny I was just looking for a new turn based strat game to play, never thought you would be the guy to get me to play a game and one I had not heard of before! Love this review. What really sold me was your comparison between this game and fire emblem. I dread having to restart a 45 mins battle because some surprise ambush. Will give this game a try.
New channel for me, and I wasn’t aware of your other work. Nice content. Unicorn Overlord is an absolute gem! I’m about 50 hours in, and the game has quickly become one of my favorite Switch games.
I've never heard of this game, but I think I've played games similar to this...(?) FF7-10, Xenogears, Star Ocean, Grandia II, & I suppose Baldur's Gate 3 for something more contemporary (& non-Japanese...). I'll have to check UO out if it gets a PC release... Otherwise, I hope you find the time to try out Elden Ring this year!
18:40 - All of these enemies are linked to an objective (liberation, side quests, main quests, etc.). If you clear the objective, these enemies will all die and you will get the same amount of honor you would have gotten by fighting them individually. The only time fighting them earlier helps is if you aren't able to clear the objective, but still need some honor immediately (but those situations are pretty uncommon).
Correct, you will not lose the Honor by skipping these battles, They are there to remind you what's expected in the liberation battles (to aid in your builds). use them for practice fi you want.
I’m a little past rescuing Scarlet in the game. I knew I was missing out on important mechanics so I looked up a few videos online including yours. I can’t believe I didn’t know until now valor does more than summoning your troops. I found your video all around interesting. I’m admittedly scared as this game appears to be more of a giant engine builder than I initially thought. Thank you for making this video.
Ultimate team video... clicking "subscribe" now for that! This is the first of your videos I have watched/listened to, and I really enjoyed your approach and style of reviewing.
What..? This is real? Clayton Morris has a refined palette in the way of video-games? I have been watching redacted since you two started the show! Did NOT expect to see your face on the thumbnail when searching for a Unicorn Overlord review! Cheers, love to see it
I know what you mean about wanting to jump right back into the game after just finishing it. Way back on the Sega Dreamcast I played a fantastic game called Skies of Arcadia. I loved the world so much with the pirate themed floating ships sky fish and whales and floating islands to explore. I finished it finally at 72 hours then immediately started the game over and played through the whole game again then 2 weeks later played it a 3rd and final time I hope someday there is a remaster of remake of that game because I would sure love to play it again.
I just bought this! So glad to see you dedicated a whole vid to it. So far, I love it! BTW, you gotta try Odin Sphere. One of the best games of all time. If you appreciate the quality of this one, you will LOVE that one.
Another great video by Clayton. I've gotten into Unicorn Overlord a bit. I need to come back to it after I finish my die hard mission of completing Tales of Graces F and Persona 4 Golden. Clayton, you NEED to play some Persona! And YES! Reveal to us your team building strategy!
The cards game is also amazing. The limited edition is beautifuly crafted, for such a game that really deserves it. Nice video and great tips thanks. Banners customization, such as troops looking and grow focussing aspects are also a wonderful features.
So far this is my Game Of The Year hands down, got it day 1 along with the LE which came with a card game. One thing I wish I knew earlier and didn't know about until halfway though and after watching a Unit Guide done by the RUclips channel TitaniumLegman, was that by having a whole Squad of Archers or Healing the potency of their Assist Skills increased to a shocking level if done well.
Awesome review, Clayton! You should get Natali in on it - my wife accidently picked it up while I was at work and has been hooked! Guess whose ended up making dinner most nights 😂
