The past few years have been such a great time for retro gaming due to so many games already being on Modern consoles/pc and the ridiculous amount of retro games recently being released. I'm never going back to modern gaming, I'd rather stay with what makes me happy. 🤷🏽♂️
The biggest problem with modern gaming is the lack of variety you experience with them. I used to be able to play through 3 to 5 games on a Saturday morning in the 80's and 90's. Playing one game across many Saturday mornings to make just a little bit of progress is a more repetitive experience.
Retro gaming is awesome! Been playing on my old ps2 on a CRT i found on the side of the road last year! Love finding old classics. I hope others get into this hobby anyway they can.

I've been talking to me friends about this for a while- it really is crazy. There is so much out there. In just the console modding scene, it feels like there is something new every month! The market it so big that we even get premium retro products currently!!! I don't know how long that will last, but I am certainly enjoying it while I can!
One thing that I have realized is that basically no retro game is without the possibility of rerelease. This generation we have gotten things like Goldeneye, MvC 2, and Plumbers Don't Wear Ties for God's sake. Like any retro game is up for rerelease or remaster at this point

But you just can’t beat going back and playing older games. I have an anbernic handheld and original hardware with hdmi converters and also love the switch online expansions - bring it on! 👍🏻
Pretty much anything up to the PS2 and Gamecube works fine nowadays and even the few problematic games can usually be fixed if you use accuracy options (disable upscaling). Only the Xbox, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U are still jank.
I do wonder how big the interest is. How much time is being spent playing old games by older and younger gamers? Fortnite, Roblox, CoD, Hoyoverse, Counterstrike, and League of Legends seem to dominate where gamers spend their time.
There is a different between the two. I am 47 and won’t touch a COD. As you get older you want fun, and fun competitive games like Overwatch 2, Zelda,Xenoblades Chronicles. Kids between 13 and 37 want big boy games like if there GF walked in she would see him playing God of War or something and say Oh cool!!!!! I am not about showing off!!
I'm 56 and love my Wii U I just got on Monday. I also still have my original Atari 2600 that I pull out and play. I guess I'm getting to a age where the new faster and better looking game doesn't really matter to me. I play games to have fun and forget about life for a little bit. I guess that's weird to some people, but it's me. Lol
If my favorite Nintendo RUclipsr says so and my Nintendo Switch library confirms that, that's it! We've never had so many options for legal retro gaming as in this generation
For retro handheld gaming, I highly recommend the Ayn Odin 2. It can play all retro systems up to PS2/ Gamecube and can even run many switch games. Its powerful and really comfortable too, been playing 3DS games recently having a blast
So I strictly only use my xbox series x only for SF6 AND THE REST IS EMULATORS ON DEV MODE!4K UPscaled EVERYTHING PS2 AND DOWN.SOME 360 GAMES😊 N64 LOOKS AMAZING! EXTREME G2❤
The past 5 games I’ve bought are all remasters of old games. I agree with you the gaming future looks to be heading into a market crash, maybe retro can save it
Been watching your channel for a few years now, one time on a livestream I asked you if you remembered Nothingface and you did not disappoint! You used to have Stevie Richards in your intro, his new channel The Stevie Richards Show is phenomenal. I love your content man! 🤘
The Retro scene is what will always keep the entire gaming industry afloat. We SHOULD be in the middle of another crash. Such a thing won’t happen because there is enough history and access to old games, and systems, that there will always be something there to keep the ship afloat. God bless the gamers! ❤❤❤❤
Modern gaming companies seem more interested in profit than in pleasing the player. Luckily we have thousands of games to play that aren't incomplete, don't require DLCs, online purchases, updates, and won't be taken away from us some time in the future. You say retro gaming scene will implode some day, but I believe modern gaming scene is the one that will implode.
The nice thing about current (post-pandemic?) retro gaming is that is going a little beyond pure nostalgia nowadays. Nostalgia is a big driving factor, sure, but all things "retro" have gave birth to something new of its own. This hodgepodge of guerrilla archivism, indie game development with self-imposed restrictions, creation and sharing of shader presets, fan patches by modders and hackers, FPGA and console modding, DIY peripherals, DIY remasters, homebrews and after-sale titles, learning about and playing games and systems you never had before... Retrogaming now is as much about reliving the past, as it is creating a parallel present. If you don't like were the giants of the industry are heading, you can just ignore them and focus on this niche side of the hobby.
I'm quite involved in the MSX scene and it's hilarious that I have both real hardware and cartridge games, but I keep playing those games on an emulator handheld because it's a lot more convenient 😂
On that note, I just bought myself a ModRetro Chromatic plus EZ Flashcart to put my own GB/GBC games/tests on it, which I'm gonna try to make using GB Studio that I also just downloaded. :) And I still love my SNES Classic Mini too, which is ideal for playing so many retro game from so many classic retro consoles. My Quest 3 VR headset is rocking it too, and I can even play classic retro games in there using something like EmuVR (need to go through my PC to run this particular experience mind you), which is actually pretty awesome and really takes me right back to my childhood being directly inside a room that looks right out of the '80s-'90s with virtual CRTs and the old consoles sitting next to them, etc.
RGT 85 you should do more videos on retro gaming. I find them extremely entertaining and interesting specially in 64. I’ll be interested to see how your analog works when you get it compare compared to the original hardware.
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you talked about, but one aspect of 'retro' gaming I think you left out to stay on the topic of true 'retro' content are the influx of retro inspired new games being released. They're part of this golden age as well. TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Sonic Mania, Double Dragon: Rise of the Dragons, The new Power Rangers beatumup and so many others have flourished the past handful of years as the desire for new experiences in an older 'retro' skin increases. And that's a great thing to see as well because we're getting to see and experience new gameplay and stories in a style from the past we love enough to be doing all the emulation and preservation in the first place.
The remasters and rereleases on Switch keep me happy because at the very least, now I have portable version. (If it was previously a portable only game, now I can play it on my TV.)😊
As far as retro goes, I tend to play the old sprite based arcade games or Sega's Model 2/3 as hitting the arcades are some of my fondest memories. These games still look great today too. I find it really hard to go back to some of the older consoles, like the 5th gen with early 3D graphics. Sprite graphics never get old, however when it comes to 3D on consoles, OG Xbox is probably my limit, lol.
honestly I've been emulating more due to price hikes, trying to pay my bills and groceries more than buying games cause gaming is expensive, as much as I'd love to play these physically, just can't afford it, so I must play via emulation as most modern games just aren't worth it anymore, and with emulators for the PSVita, PS4, and Xbox One coming in, all we need left is PS5, Xbox Series X, and Kinect and then the gang's all here for every console, the newest ones still need work on compatibility but still we could have everything on a PC or other devices soon, emulators should start hiring people to make controllers for their emulators, especially Dolphin for the Wii content like Balance Boards, plastic shells, and Wiimotes with motion plus built in or separate, nunchucks, or even making special adapters to connect third party controllers cause first party is too expensive right now and it's already a pain to hook up and I refuse to play Wii without motion controls, same with WiiU needing a WiiU tablet replication/connectivity, and the next step is VR conversions and we've already started doing that along with romhacks and even making games for these older consoles, the future may as well be emulation now
Support your local used game stores!👍 My dad gave my kiddo his SP and 3DS. The 3DS bit the dust so I bought a 2DS. Now that my kiddo can read he has enjoyed playing minish cap. I started frequenting our local used video game shop to expand his collection as well as my own. It has been so much fun sharing my childhood with him and his younger siblings. Nostalgia led me to buy Link to the Past for the SP. Even though it has small differences from what I grew up with on the snes, it is still fun to play with them. Support your local used video game stores! 👍
I have terabytes of ROMs stored on hard drives so I'll still be alright even after Nintendo nukes all the download sites. They're fighting a battle they cannot possibly win.
Western AAA games are mostly garbage now, but games from indies to smaller AA studios are pretty much in the middle of a Renascence and it doesn't look like the creativity is going to disappear from them anytime soon. Retro is definitely a very appealing option as well and I wish the video game industry as a whole cared more about preservation. Though for the most part it's extremely easy to find roms online and emulate them, so the only thing holding you back from emulation is your willingness to sail the high seas. Though I'd argue there's no reason to take the moral high ground position on pirating retro games at this point. No one believes the argument of "Think of the devs who put their hard work into these games" when they haven't made money off these games in decades, publishers are drip feeding retro remasters and rereleases, and scalpers are heavily inflating the price of Super Mario 64, one of the most popular games released for the N64. I mean it's nice when a rerelease, remaster, or remake happens to some classic games, but a lot of publishers aren't that interested in preserving their classics. So I say sail the high seas to your hearts content there's a lot of gold these publishers are leaving at the bottom of the sea.
Please make that Saturn video! I have been looking for that kind of solution exactly. Saturn prices are insane now. I remember being gifted my Saturn for Christmas as a kid because all the games were in the clearance bin.
Publishers can charge whatever they want for their games. I can wait and buy them for $10 while I play these old games I missed out on on PS3, 360, etc
2:37 you showed Battle Arena Toshinden, where can we play that? I looked and its not on the network. It's only on the PS1 mini. I wish they would give us the original Ridge Racer too instead of part 4.
its better than ever with all the new controllers and hardware upgrades and while collecting the old games are expensive you can load up on roms better than ever now
Please make a video about that Saturn cartdrige. Not to forget that nowadays you can play a fair amount of once japanese only titles in english and other languages thanks to translation patches, which with the right hardware you can even use with original cartdriges.
Because games media and the AAA industry are a poor imitation of what gaming used to be. Too much of it is about some message which falls flat because the games containing messaging just suck.
I'm favoured only God knows how much I praise Him, $230k every 4weeks! I now have a big mansion and can now afford anything and also support God’s work and the church.

I remember giving her my first saved up $20000 and she opened a brokerage account with it for me, it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me.
Ah yes "the golden age" Where retro games are the price of a mortgage in 1999, CRTs are collectors pieces and your only option without using your kids college fund is emulation Had this stuff from new since the 90s, I remember a time where rule of rose and silent hill 2 were games I could get for less than $10, now they're $200 or more
Two days ago I grabbed a 14'' CRT from the side walk. I admit it doesn't happen as often as once did, but you can still find stuff on Facebook marketplace if you live near a big city.
You should start a book series. Wrestling games from different consoles and stuff. Next do sega! Or playstation, or wrestlin game only on arcade cabinets !
Options are so vast nowdays. I remember a time when software emulation was not a pleasent experience or how bad it was after the jump to HD TVs when all of a sudden you couldn't really hook up your old consoles to your TV anymore. Howdays we have FPGA consoles with HDMI output, we have great software emulation and countless devices that make great use of it. We have upscalers and line doublers, HDMI mods, advanced cable solutions, Everdrives, optical drive emulation and other mods that let you read isos from an SD card. You can just throw HDDs into your PS2 or X-Box, or just load whatever onto your 3DS because it's so easy to unlock. Nowdays you can pick and choose whatever solution fits your needs. And then of course we also have developers embracing the remastering and porting craze because retro games are as popular as ever. Bye bye modern gaming!!!
It is so nice to just pop a game into an old system and have it boot up instantly. No fuggin dashboard and patches! No accounts or fuggin sign-ins.

So I strictly only use my xbox series x only for SF6 AND THE REST IS
EMULATORS ON DEV MODE!4K UPscaled EVERYTHING
PS2 AND DOWN.SOME 360 GAMES😊
N64 LOOKS AMAZING!
EXTREME G2❤
Ode, cheap memory, some of the best 3rd party controllers, easy mods. This is by far the best time to play retros
OEM controllers better tho
The Best Retro Gaming RUclipsr 🤌🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I been grinding Gta 3, Vice City, and San Andreas on Switch lately. Been having a blast !
RG85 I thank you for bringing up the Saturn Saroo. It’s such a great device that is a must have for any Saturn owner.
MVG is not English, he's Australian and proud of it.
Rgt is well aware of that. That's part of what makes it funny
Modern gaming companies seem more interested in profit than in pleasing the player. Luckily we have thousands of games to play that aren't incomplete, don't require DLCs, online purchases, updates, and won't be taken away from us some time in the future. You say retro gaming scene will implode some day, but I believe modern gaming scene is the one that will implode.
its not just now the golden era for retro games everyday is a golden ere for these games. retro will always overpower AAA games
Nes, snes, n64, GameCube with 3 of them having Everdrives on a CRT TV. BEEN A GREAT RETRO YEAR❤
It's been the golden age of retro ever since I started sneaking in a thumb drive with Nesticle at my first office job
It's definitely a golden age. My next project is modding a 3ds to get back into the GBAs library.
I'm quite involved in the MSX scene and it's hilarious that I have both real hardware and cartridge games, but I keep playing those games on an emulator handheld because it's a lot more convenient 😂
When your system can't handle much, you gotta focus on gameplay, and that's what makes retro games shine
I dnt own a ps4 or xbox one.. i gt a 360 Switch n a handheld with all the retro games on n im happy 😅
Now is the time for retro gaming too make a full return!!
I usually play stuff on my Mister over anything new. NES, PSX, N64, etc all run great with no lag or hoops to jump through.
I enjoy the homebrew scene as well, some good games are coming out that will play on original hardware.
Clickbait title but it’s my boi RGT85! I’ll watch then GO OUTSIDE
My life in gaming is a great source of information for anyone interested in retro gaming
On that note, I just bought myself a ModRetro Chromatic plus EZ Flashcart to put my own GB/GBC games/tests on it, which I'm gonna try to make using GB Studio that I also just downloaded. :)
And I still love my SNES Classic Mini too, which is ideal for playing so many retro game from so many classic retro consoles.
Retro gaming is Xbox 360 now 😳
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you talked about, but one aspect of 'retro' gaming I think you left out to stay on the topic of true 'retro' content are the influx of retro inspired new games being released.
Don't forget the new Earthion game. (A new Sega Mega Drive)
Soul Reaver and Tomb Raider were remastered. Never thought I'd see the day! My first 3D console was Sega Dreamcast.
Just when you sold all your retro consoles and games 😆
I was raised to rough to collect I am moving or GF issues 😂. Moved to 3 different states in 15 years. Anyways I am starting physical Nintendo now !
Rgt is on fire with his knowledge thank you rgt i was a little gruff in the past with his channel he is awesome
Ehhhh
The remasters and rereleases on Switch keep me happy because at the very least, now I have portable version. (If it was previously a portable only game, now I can play it on my TV.)😊
As far as retro goes, I tend to play the old sprite based arcade games or Sega's Model 2/3 as hitting the arcades are some of my fondest memories. These games still look great today too. I find it really hard to go back to some of the older consoles, like the 5th gen with early 3D graphics. Sprite graphics never get old, however when it comes to 3D on consoles, OG Xbox is probably my limit, lol.
Ive been on an N64 kick recently too. Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, Paper Mario, Banjo Tooie, all much better than anything else ive played this year
The PS3 is basically a retro system, as it is nearly 20 years old now.
honestly I've been emulating more due to price hikes, trying to pay my bills and groceries more than buying games cause gaming is expensive, as much as I'd love to play these physically, just can't afford it, so I must play via emulation as most modern games just aren't worth it anymore, and with emulators for the PSVita, PS4, and Xbox One coming in, all we need left is PS5, Xbox Series X, and Kinect and then the gang's all here for every console, the newest ones still need work on compatibility but still we could have everything on a PC or other devices soon, emulators should start hiring people to make controllers for their emulators, especially Dolphin for the Wii content like Balance Boards, plastic shells, and Wiimotes with motion plus built in or separate, nunchucks, or even making special adapters to connect third party controllers cause first party is too expensive right now and it's already a pain to hook up and I refuse to play Wii without motion controls, same with WiiU needing a WiiU tablet replication/connectivity, and the next step is VR conversions and we've already started doing that along with romhacks and even making games for these older consoles, the future may as well be emulation now
It’s nice to have PaRappa do a retro game video.
Support your local used game stores!👍
My dad gave my kiddo his SP and 3DS.
Nostalgia is a great liar I love both retro and modern AAA the best part is we can enjoy both!
I have terabytes of ROMs stored on hard drives so I'll still be alright even after Nintendo nukes all the download sites.
They're fighting a battle they cannot possibly win.
Once one site is closed. 50 more cloud based sites open up
Western AAA games are mostly garbage now, but games from indies to smaller AA studios are pretty much in the middle of a Renascence and it doesn't look like the creativity is going to disappear from them anytime soon.
Can't wait for the platinum era
I'll be going on my N64 retro phase in 2025 if that Analogue 3D ends up being really good
Please make that Saturn video! I have been looking for that kind of solution exactly. Saturn prices are insane now. I remember being gifted my Saturn for Christmas as a kid because all the games were in the clearance bin.
I find the older games are way more fun than the newer ones
Publishers can charge whatever they want for their games. I can wait and buy them for $10 while I play these old games I missed out on on PS3, 360, etc
For Me was Super NES and Sega Genesis
I've been emulating for over 20 years...I prefer it over og hardware because I like to upscale
2:37 you showed Battle Arena Toshinden, where can we play that? I looked and its not on the network. It's only on the PS1 mini. I wish they would give us the original Ridge Racer too instead of part 4.
When i can play my old NES and 2600 with wireless controllers, and have a 486 dosbox on secure wifi... the title is kinda' hard to deny.
its better than ever with all the new controllers and hardware upgrades and while collecting the old games are expensive you can load up on roms better than ever now
Please make a video about that Saturn cartdrige.
Not to forget that nowadays you can play a fair amount of once japanese only titles in english and other languages thanks to translation patches, which with the right hardware you can even use with original cartdriges.
You also have modern made console from the original makers of the console for example you have the Atari 2600 & 7800 plus systems
I fundamentally draw the line at playing 70 bucks for games. It just means i will be waiting for games to drop and not playign at launch anymore
agreed! My series x is a retro beast! can play all ps2,dreamcast, gamecube wii as well as snes sega all in 4k 60fps!
Retro Game Tube 85📺👾
Because games media and the AAA industry are a poor imitation of what gaming used to be. Too much of it is about some message which falls flat because the games containing messaging just suck.
I'm favoured only God knows how much I praise Him, $230k every 4weeks! I now have a big mansion and can now afford anything and also support God’s work and the church.
Only God knows how much grateful i am. After so much struggles I now own a new house and my family is happy once again everything is finally falling into place!!
Wow that's huge, how do you make that much monthly?
I'm 37 and have been looking for ways to be successful, please how??
I remember giving her my first saved up $20000 and she opened a brokerage account with it for me, it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me.
Only retro thing I played lately was Marvel vs Capcom collection
And Sonic Origins Ultrafix Mod
It’s almost time for my yearly replay of breath of fire 3.
Hyped for the Game Awards!
Ah yes "the golden age"
Where retro games are the price of a mortgage in 1999, CRTs are collectors pieces and your only option without using your kids college fund is emulation
Had this stuff from new since the 90s, I remember a time where rule of rose and silent hill 2 were games I could get for less than $10, now they're $200 or more
Two days ago I grabbed a 14'' CRT from the side walk.
Never sell your old consoles and emulate everything! Retro has always been superior.
2:00 NSO also got Sega Genesis ⭐️⭐️
