My brother in Christ, i hope you have a Merry Christmas! I picked up a PSVR 2 for only $350 at Costco, and i can't wait to open it up with the kids in 2 days! I am genuinely excited this year.
It was until you grow up and be responsible adult.. But the gaming in that era during Christmas was priceless. You can’t replicate it. Now it’s about PCs and low budget consoles.
Jeez, in 1991, I was the one buying my kids video games. Don't complain. When I was a kid, there were no such things as video games! Now, I'm buying video games and consoles for my grandchildren. Not only for them, but for me! I am very grateful that this is such a great time to be retired. Now that I am pushing 70, I'm taking full advantage of the technology that allows me to have this much fun in my old age. And I can't wait to put down my money on a preorder for Switch 2. Don't be so crabby. You haven't earned the right, as I have, to be an angry, crabby old fart. Be happy, these are great times to enjoy gaming!!!
I'll never forget the year I got the N64. 1997. At my Aunt and Uncle's house, we all opened our presents together and had the hugest pile of stuff under the tree because my whole mom's side of the family (2 brothers and a sister + their 11 total kids and my grandparents) came together and opened absolutely everything at the one house. So there was a literal dumpster load of wrapping paper and boxes after. We all ordered a ton of pizza, opened gifts and the kids got to play for a while with each other with our gifts. I hooked up my N64 in my cousin's room and we had a huge tournament on a game called MRC: Multi Racing Championship. It only had 3 tracks, but we had such a good time and I beat everyone on it because I was a racing game nerd and race fan so I got what I was doing a lot quicker than anyone else lol. but everyone from my college aged cousins down to the 5 year olds were in it and that was probably one of the last times we were all together as a complete family other than a proper family reunion...
Hilarious -- "I'm 8 years old and I can make decisions and I have Mortal Kombat and nobody can do anything about it." LMAO. Reminded me of the South Park episode where Cartman causes a scene in Best Buy then the camera cuts to him sobbing away in his mom's car.
Christmas 98. Nintendo 64 with Ocarina Of Time & Goldeneye is pinnacle for me. Even topping the PS1 I got in 95. Those two games literally built me growing up.
@@shadowside8433 It was and I love the PS1 in general. But in terms of excitement and the games I played that particular Christmas, the 64 wins it hands down. I played both games literally all day and night haha.
@DeadEyeSurvivor In the UK Nintendo didn't really make a dent in the 8 bit market, so by the time we got to 1995 onwards, I was more a PC gamer. I still had an up to date Nintendo handheld, but not so much the Dreamcast/N64/PS2/Gamecube era.
@@shadowside8433 I think you missed out on the magic that was the 64 especially back then. I'm PC only myself now though. I think the console/computer you grow up with would generally be the system you hold most to heart.
@DeadEyeSurvivor Yes, my son has just been amazed that the Mario & Luigi game 'Brothership' came even close to his favourite game of all time, Bowsers Inside Story! It's a ZX Spectrum and Amiga for me, all the way!!
"I'M AN 8 YEAR OLD KID, AND I'M DECIDING..." I literally laughed out loud because even to this day you are still just as serious as you were in that moment. 🤣
13:17 I still have my original two (yes, TWO) Virtual Boys and I still love the system. I have 13 Virtual Boy games and I’ll NEVER get rid of them, no matter how much they are worth. With the homebrew scene and roms, I plan to build my. Virtual Boy library ever more. *Hyper Fighting* is INCREDIBLE on the system!
My worst Xmas was in ‘93 when I asked for Sonic 2 but I got Spinball instead because it was "cheaper"… but fortunately, 6 months later I bought Sonic 2 with my own money (as a 9 year old kid that was my very first big purchase)
My mother allowed me to play Mortal Kombat. She was not that strict and just told me not to do anything stupid in those games in real life. I wasnt too much of a troublemaker. I remember she got it from Ames.
I remember the Christmas when I finally got the Game Boy Color. A game changing moment for me as my old Game Boy (which I still have to this day) will not play with batteries inside and I have to use an adapter to play my games. Fun memories.
@ getting consoles as an adult just doesn’t hit the same lol when I was a kid my uncle was a “not a criminal” and he “didn’t steal” a bag that had a whole gameboy color with a cover case and everything. He sold it to my parents for super cheap so I could get it for my 6th bday, and with the money he got from them he took me to get pokemon red at Walmart. I’ll never forget that day. I used to sleep on our couch in those days and I stayed up so late playing.
I remember getting my GameCube the year it came out. My stepdad had gotten laid off from his job and I was told there would be no gifts that year. Of course I was upset. Then on Christmas Day I opened a box that contained the GameCube and Luigi’s Mansion. I was so excited. Another year I got Super Castlevania IV since my stepdad had a SNES. So many memories that I won’t forget 😊
We have not forgotten about celebrating the birth of our saviour, even if December 25th was very unlikely. How could I forget about the most important thing in life. A relationship with Jesus? Santa creeps me out and is a simple anagram.
My fondest Xmas memory was at my Grandmas as well, a tradition I miss dearly. Year 2017 asked for a Switch she had convinced me we would no longer be getting 'bigger' gifts because they spent so much money helping our parents and buying my siblings cars, etc. They did the "one last present" trick and I opened a brand new Switch. She did the same when I was younger for Xbox 360, and my siblings didn't get consoles, just smaller gifts, not sure why they always went out of their way to make me feel extra special, but those moments are near dear to my heart. Merry Christmas RGT
The whole purpose of Christmas is for the son of God to come to this earth to die for sinners so that we would have eternal life that’s what Christmas is!
The memory that stands out for me to this day was Christmas morning 1987. Santa left an NES bundle in the most beautiful box id ever seen under the tree that year. Super mario Bros, duck hunt, and a mother fkn zapper gun. It absolutely blew the mind of 6 year old me and I'll never forget it.
I remember going to Kmart I was going to buy a game genie. But my dad said they was all sold out because he was going to get me one but couldn’t. But Christmas Day I got it. Love you and miss you dad
Holy crap, you're the only one I've heard ever mention King Salmon. My dad had it and gave that game to me when I got my own Genesis, way back. Thanks for the flashback!
My favorite Christmas video game memory was in 1996 when I wanted Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for the Genesis more than anything. My brother and I always snooped before Christmas and I'll never forget finding the game in my parent's closet! Still have the game and box for it to this day and I'm now 41.
Dude, Im a nostalgic vintage, but many times I think back fondly of New Years eve 1993....me playing Super mario world on Super Nes and Nirvana playing MTV live and loud....sweet times...❤❤❤ Great video and happy hollidays btw...
Shawn, I searched "retro gaming" and you had the top four videos. You are now the face of retro gaming on youtube. It's time to flash an snes classic and get a modretro chromatic, you have a calling to usher in the new age of old.
I remember one year my grandfather bought me a PS3 and he left it just chillin in the room I had my gaming stuff but I couldn't open it till Christmas day mind you he's had it since probably black Friday but it's a Christmas present so not till Christmas he'd say. That was a great Christmas.
8 years old RGT showing Mortal Kombat to his mom, reminds me of my best friend who couldn’t read a room, and would brag about the violent games he played at my house the second his mom come pick him up…. 🤣
Honestly, my retro computer nostalgia usually appears during the Christmas period, simply due to the fact I got an Atari 2600 in the early 80's followed by a Commodore 64, followed a few years later with an Amiga 500 for Christmas gifts. After that I bought my own PC, and never owned a console until the PS3. One game that stands out for retro nostalgia, and I play every Christmas, as well as a few times through the year, is Ghostbusters for the Commodore 64. Such a simple, yet awesome, game that keeps me grounded in the fact that flashy graphics aren't even close to the most important thing about the game, but actual mechanics and gameplay itself. Even the gimmick of pressing the spacebar to hear the digitized voice scream "GHOSTBUSTERS" never got old. Simpler times for even simpler people I miss so much. Your uncle understood what the kids wanted at the time, and he was right. The VBoy, in hindsight was a good call. I've never even seen one in real life, and you got to experience what the majority didn't. So props to your dad for coming through. You're right about lack of innovation these days. Companies are more interested in making money for stockholders than what will push the industry forward, and it's a damn shame. I'm looking forward to the next collapse of the gaming industry, because I've seen and lived through a few cycles, and as always, the Indies today, more than before, are more than ready to fill in the gaps left by any AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA grade (in their own minds) gaming publishers, who are the problem this cycle. The past was bright, and I'm thankful, but the future looks brighter.
Parents: Get dressed. We’re all going to visit your uncle. Little RGT85: YAAAAAAAAY! 😁 Parents: Oh, I see you’re happy to go see your favorite uncle, hmm? Little RGT85: Favorite uncle? Screw him. It’s his videogames I’m looking forward to playing. 🫤
My earliest Christmas memory is my brother opening our Nintendo 64. I was 2 when it released, so I am surprised I remember seeing him unwrap it. The first thing I saw was the Storm Trooper on the side of the box. My sister tells me I am making things up about there being a Storm Trooper on the box, but it has one on the sides of the box. I didn't get to play that console very often, since we only had our 32 inch TV in the living room at the time, but we did have fun playing Mario Party, Pokemon Stadium, Super Smash Brothers (my birthday present), Mario Kart64, and obviously Golden Eye. My brother memorized every Golden Gun spawn and would always pick it up before I even realized we were in the game.
Your video reminded me when my father And myself were at the mall, and my father noticed the Nintendo Virtual Boy. I can't remember the game we both tried, but, I remember after we both thought it was something really future level. Then after my father had to rest his eyes before he could drive. The red screen made his eyes all watery. Good memory, and good time with my father. Thanks for sharing your family story.
Very similar to mine. My uncles had an NES setup in my grandparent's basement on a little 13-inch TV. I used to watch them play Tecmo bowl until they left to go out and he would let me play Mario when he was gone. Eventually, my grandma got me my own NES for Christmas that came with the Mario/Duck Hunt cartridge. Then, a few years later, my mom got me a Sega Genesis that came with Sonic 2 (and yeah, it was the best Sonic) and I think my first separate game was Street Fighter 2 if I remember right. In 95 (or actually a year later), I ended up getting a Sega Saturn that came with Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop and Daytona USA packed in. My little brother asked for a Playstation, so we had both in the house. Never got an N64 because we always played it at my best friends house, so I didn't feel a need to own one. But yeah, those were the days when Christmas was fun. Makes me wish I had kids to watch them enjoy Christmas like I did, but honestly, I can barely take care of myself, so it's a blessing in disguise that I don't have any 😂.
By the way, Shawn, you should write the sequel to eight bit Christmas and write a script for 16 bit Christmas about a kid wanting a Sega Genesis with Mortal Kombat, LMAO!
I agree worst Christmas. Went out of town last weekend for Christmas with my gf family. Came back to my apartment door broke and everything I own gone. Game consoles, pc,laptop, safe that had rent in it and the title to my car. Its been a freaking great year let me tell you.
My parents always gave me great Christmas days. I'd always get videogames in some shape or form...except one. I feel guilty now about it but there was one year where I didn't get anything video game related and I was upset for the rest of the day. I got a bunch of other things my little self decided it wasn't good enough. I remember my dad talking to me after he seen my disappointment.
Dude, thank you! I felt all the nostalgia. I even got the fluttery feeling in my stomach that I have felt since I was 10. I am excited for Christmas! I gots kids to make believe in Santa.
The bonus gift. Always the best. My parents did that with N64. All the presents were gone. But then they pulled 1 more gift from “Santa” and me and my siblings were just like the n64 kid screaming it.
I am probably the oldest here. My most memorable Christmas was back in 1980 when the Atari 2600 released. I was 9 years old and extremely excited. I asked for the Atari for Christmas. I got some other things also but, the Atari took over. I don't remember what my other gifts were. My cousin and I played all day and well after midnight. My grandparents had to force us to go to bed in which we only slept a couple of hours and we were right back to playing that morning and every day after. Pacman, Asteriods, Centipede, Berserk, Mario Bros, and the Combat game that was included in the box. I always got the next newest consoles for Christmas every year there after including the hand helds. The Gameboys and Sega hand helds like the Game Gear, and the Lynx. I am soooo glad that I was here for the start of the Video game era and the best music era's the 70's, 80's, and the 90's. I sure do miss these days. They were the best and the most fun. Wish I could go back sometimes and relive these days. Merry Christmas everyone😊
I went peeking and found my xmas copy of Toejam & Earl 2 around Thanksgiving. I put an old game in the box and brought it to my room. Instantly hated it then had nothing to open on christmas.
I really enjoy these sweet, introspective videos 😊! Thanks for sharing your personal memories, RGT! I laughed out loud when you shouted, "Who's laughing now, mom! " 😂
He literally mentions Jesus Christ in his video and says that people don't mention Christ enough when Christmas is supposed to be about Him - hence why I and others have done so. Can't you people exist without losing your rag every time someone mentions Jesus - particularly in a comment on a video posted at Christmas, which is about Christmas, and in which the person who made the video talks about Jesus Christ?
Your story is similar to mine. I first played on my uncle's NES. I was so into it that after he upgraded to SNES, he sold his NES and entire library to my mom for only $30! I got Mario Bros 1,2,3; Castlevania 1,2,3; Robocop; Duckhunt; the light gun, and that voice powered helmet/scope thing. (Been 35 years, forgive my memory lol)
I remeber bringing Mortal Kombat to my friends' houses (at 5 years old), only to be told we're not allowed to play it there. But i thought I was smart: I started bringing Street Fighter 2 as a backup, since it didn't have any blood or fatalities.. but they would never let us play that either; which i genuinely didn't understand why at the time lol.. Therefor: everyone came to my house instead after that
Dudes, every time I see a play through of the first Mario, the green mushroom is always missed. I figured I would put this at the very beginning so I don't forget and a Merry Christmas to you Mr. RGT. I am not quite sure on how to say this but those stories run very similar to my own. No details because I am not taking up the chat.
Sounds like some great Christmases. I asked for an NES for 4 years in a row and never got one. Finally had to buy one myself with a pile of quarters, dimes, nickels and Susan B. Anthony dollars after saving for a year.
I've never really cared about Christmas when it comes to video games and getting a console. I just buy it myself and share it with anyone who's interested. Which unfortunately is nobody in my family so it's just me most of the time.
The only Christmas I remember as a kid was when I got my Timex Computer 2068, and we played it nonstop for an entire week. Never got any other console around Christmas so all others are just a blur.
I haven't forgotten about Jesus.
Praise Jesus!
Amen. Jesus is the reason for the season!
Jesus is an imaginary character. Mario is more real.
@spiceworm8102 If Mario isn't a real character either then how could Jesus be less real?
Or maybe you believe Mario is real? 🤔
Sadly the host has no hope.
Jesus created man. Man created mario. Meaning Mario is a gift from Jesus.
Your uncle was a real one. R.I.P.

My brother memorized every Golden Gun spawn and would always pick it up before I even realized we were in the game.
This vid was a hoot!!! Thank you, Shaun for caring and sharing!!! And Merry Christmas, dude!!!
5:27 you GOT lucky, me as an uncle NO ONE is touching my videogames.
video should be titled....guy has therapy session with himself
My dad: you can pick out any game except Mortal Kombat
Me: I think I’m buying Doom then.
My dad: sure Okay.
I think I got the last laugh on that one!
Yea, that was good RGT. Great story. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Little RGT recieved his first system an NES. The world wouldnt know then but this would be the birth of the best Nintendo youtuber.
Merry Christmas RTG. Thanks for making great content as always. Enjoy your channel.
Is RGT not RTG😂😂😂😂
i just imagined a world where instead of Tim Allen its RGT as the santa claus and now im sad it doesnt exist
Happy Holidays to you and the fam RGT!
Merry Christmas dude you make me laugh! excellent stuff !!
Dude, thank you! I felt all the nostalgia. I even got the fluttery feeling in my stomach that I have felt since I was 10. I am excited for Christmas! I gots kids to make believe in Santa.
My uncle also got me into gaming he had an Atari 2600
The bonus gift. Always the best. My parents did that with N64. All the presents were gone. But then they pulled 1 more gift from “Santa” and me and my siblings were just like the n64 kid screaming it.
As grown up Christmas is whatever 😂
Sorry RGT but jesus is king my guy, you can never forget about him.
Agree here 100 percent Jesus is king !
Fake news
Doubt Jesus would approve of many of the games you play
@@emansfvera live it, love it. Jesus is God.
@@user-bw4lb3py4tfake news is fake news.
Christmas is about the birth of Jesus. He is never forgotten and the true reason for the season.
Merry Christmas RGT. Sega Megadrive was my best Christmas gift and it was hidden until the end of the day
I am probably the oldest here.
I will never forget the day I got a Genesis for Christmas and played sonic all night long. And there goes the music and coins playing in my head...
I really enjoy these sweet, introspective videos 😊! Thanks for sharing your personal memories, RGT! I laughed out loud when you shouted, "Who's laughing now, mom! " 😂
I remember joys of my first console. I got moms old atari 2600 and she got me a nes console. Nothing can take those memories away
Is this guy depressed? His videos all year have been 90% negative.
dude needs a girl and or family
He’s the best Nintendo RUclipsr.
Of course. Always has been.
Maybe, but this year has been a shitshow so I can't blame him for it tbh 🤷🏾♀️
@@FameKillz he might have one
Best Christmas memory is getting Pokemon Blue as a 6yr old, and taking 3 hours or so until I found out how to leave the damn starting house.
Jesus Christ is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Happy Christmas!
Jesus Christ can't you people exist without having to blast this kinda stuff online?
He literally mentions Jesus Christ in his video and says that people don't mention Christ enough when Christmas is supposed to be about Him - hence why I and others have done so.
Can't you people exist without losing your rag every time someone mentions Jesus - particularly in a comment on a video posted at Christmas, which is about Christmas, and in which the person who made the video talks about Jesus Christ?
Happy Festivus and Merry Merry!! I remember getting a Genesis with Sonic Spinball. Played that so much-still love the game to this day 😎
yeah i loved that one dropping in the green stuff and trying to jump out before the crocodiles got you
Merry Christmas brother I enjoyed this vid ty
Your story is similar to mine. I first played on my uncle's NES. I was so into it that after he upgraded to SNES, he sold his NES and entire library to my mom for only $30! I got Mario Bros 1,2,3; Castlevania 1,2,3; Robocop; Duckhunt; the light gun, and that voice powered helmet/scope thing. (Been 35 years, forgive my memory lol)
I remeber bringing Mortal Kombat to my friends' houses (at 5 years old), only to be told we're not allowed to play it there. But i thought I was smart: I started bringing Street Fighter 2 as a backup, since it didn't have any blood or fatalities..
but they would never let us play that either;
which i genuinely didn't understand why at the time lol..
Merry Christmas, man. Love and appreciate you in a super para-social way.
Merry Christmass RGT
I have a good laugh watching this, its hilarious lol Merry Christmas everybody!
I've never really cared about Christmas when it comes to video games and getting a console. I just buy it myself and share it with anyone who's interested. Which unfortunately is nobody in my family so it's just me most of the time.
The good old days were the best with family & friends. Then online with broken content came along & killed the friendships.
Merry Christmas, RGT. see you in the new year
When my brother and I got the N64 for Christmas right before ocarina of time came out…. Maaaan was is ever that excited again? Not sure
Happen to be wearing the orange sock as well right now. Very well done sir. Merry Christmas
You had me at 7:31. Thank you. 🙏🏻🐲❤️
Brother merry Christmas to you and your loved ones. Thanks.......
The only Christmas I remember as a kid was when I got my Timex Computer 2068, and we played it nonstop for an entire week. Never got any other console around Christmas so all others are just a blur.
