I'm shocked how little credit Arlo is giving himself for predicting no direct in September. That was a consistent thing for 8 FREAKIN YEARS. That's an INCREDIBLE prediction.
I feel like it was somewhat predictable that directs were going to be light this year since we’ve known about the next console for a while now. Maybe not the September prediction specifically, but I was predicting main directs were going to be light this year.
Huh? A lot of people expected that since it was a wind down year. Dude has been wrong about lots of other things. The most embarassing being his video thinking totk would launch in 2021
My lovable furry blue brother in Christ, we’ve been getting remasters on Switch because no one bought the Wii U so the majority of people never played those games. We’ve gotten remakes lately because the main teams are working on switch 2 games. They’re not selling a new console with games everyone already has access to.
Yeah I don't know why he doesn't realize this at all. THis is the whol reason Nintendo is making a whold new development building because they're smart enough to realize that they can't port nearly as many Wii U titles and will only be able to rely on new software in the age of increasing development costs.
Meh who knows. Wiimotes worked on Wii U. The GameCube controller worked on Wii and, with an adapter, on Wii U and even Switch. Nintendo doesn't have a bad track record on backwards compatibility. They certainly don't tend to go out of their way to prevent it when it would be easy to implement.
@Jonassoe So once? Ignoring the time you had to buy a peripheral and the ignoring GC-Wii because it was almost exclusively for smash Bros and GC emulation. I'm glad you're such a positive polly
@@Zaurthur Imo the joy con charging stand releasing so late into the switch life pretty much confirms that the original joy cons will be usable on the switch 2 Also we don't have images of a switch 2 pro controller yet to know if all the controllers will have the supposed C button
@D0SMIC or that they thought people would just use the switch to charge joycons or just use pro controllers. And that people probably wouldn't want to waste $30 on a power block for like no reason.
Arlo…as someone who’s been following splatoon 3 actively ever since it was revealed…no…they wouldn’t do a splatoon 3 remaster. Splatfests will be going until after the console is revealed (as confirmed in a tweet by Nintendo) they don’t want to split the player base, they didn’t even bother giving us third kits….just….no.
Arlo in his Splatoon 3 video: "Okay, *NOW* I get why they have to make new Splatoon games instead of just updating the same one forever, it makes sense." Arlo in this video: "Okay, but why don't they basically just keep updating the same game forever?" It almost feels like trolling at this point lol
Where did people get the idea that Nintendo are always selling remasters of previous gen games? They only did this with WiiU games because nobody played WiiU. They have no history of this with any other generation. And no, people aren't going to pay for remasters of games they just played last Gen and Nintendo knows that.
I could see them selling an upgrade patch from Switch 1 version to Switch 2 version at $15 (let's say) and the Switch 2 version by itself at the usual retail price. So Mario Odyssey upgrade patch would be $15 if you already had Odyssey but if you didn't own Odyssey at all you could get Odyssey + upgrade at $60.
Exactly. There was no backwards compatibility either so it was totally understandable (and good) that the best Wii U games got second chances on Switch and sold better than they did on the Wii U. Switch on the other hand while the console and the games are peak, no one is gonna buy rereleases of Switch games that aren't even a decade old let alone 5 years old yet, and backwards compatibility is already confirmed for the thing and Nintendo knows that consumers can simply just pop in their copies of Switch 1 games on Switch 2 and just play them from there. The fact that Arlo genuinely believes that'll happen is ludicrous and braindead.
Well, I assume he’s going into this prediction assuming that enhancement from switch 1 to switch 2 are NOT inherently built in, and something that will have to be “re-released”
@@thespeedyyoshi which makes sense for textures and shaders and effects, but better framerate, resolution, and/or draw distance, those could be easily done in the base version of games with a tiny patch
@@CrowTRobot Backwards compatibility means that all Nintendo Switch games will be available and playable on Nintendo Switch 2, including Metroid Prime 4.
@ but that’s besides the point, cross-gen still happens between generations. It’s been happening for decades. People were hoping that Metroid Prime 4 would get a Switch 2 version but he’s saying he doesn’t think it will happen. So in other words just a Switch 1 game that’s able to run on Switch 2. Same way I play my PS4 games on my PS5 🤷
Next year is the 40th anniversary for Mario. 100% we are getting a huge Mario push along side the new console. A new Mario kart and 3D Mario for sure is coming as launch year titles
They did a big thing for 35, they won't do a ton of stuff every five years. But yeah I think mk9 and new 3D Mario are reasonable. Probably not at the same time, maybe Mario and Metroid or something. Me personally I would just love to play a modern 3D Donkey Kong game, especially with the Rare personality
I don’t think there’s the slightest chance Splatoon 3 gets a remaster. I think Splatoon 4 gets released in Summer 2026. Edit: also worth pointing out that the same teams makes both Splatoon and AC. I’m willing to bet the next AC is almost ready to go and the team will soon start full production on Splatoon 4 to get it on Switch 2 asap Edit 2: People were misreading that I thought the AC series was over lol. I changed the wording
Which how much ACNH sold it would be stupid not to have one on the Switch2... But give it longer updates so the playerbase actually can grow. .. Or they wait till the next global pandemic 🤣
It should be also mentioned that while it is the same team, it has expanded so much (as evident by the credits of Splatoon 2, ACNH, and Splatoon 3), that its effectively two teams that are able to work on two different projects at the same time. Besides that, it has been rumoured due to a datamine that Splatoon 4 (or at the very least, a Splatoon-related project) has begun development no later than July of 2024. Considering it took them a year and three quarters or so to develop Splatoon 3 during the Covid pandemic, we might see Splatoon 4 as an end-of-year title for 2025. While not as popular in the West, the Splatoon franchise is an enormous hit in Japan and I could go on and on providing sources and proof as to why that's the case but the point is - if we go with Arlo's prediction for a new 3D Mario being the end-of-year title, it'll be such for the west, meanwhile Splatoon 4 will be the end-of-year title for the east.
Yeah that was really baffling to me. There were rumors of Breath of the Wild getting re-released on Switch 2, and that at least makes sense to me. There's a lot of quality of life features that are in Tears of the Kingdom that weren't in Breath of the Wild. So they could add those. They could also include all of the DLC and maybe even restructure it to fit into the game more naturally. etc. "Breath of the Wild: Definitive Edition" Could be released for either Switch 2 OR the original Switch, but with better performance on Switch 2. _(ideally they'd make the Definitive Edition features available as an update for the original for those who have it, but I could easily see Nintendo forcing people to rebuy the game)._ But yeah, Tears of the Kingdom really has... nothing to change with a Definitive Edition release, other than graphics. No way they're doing that.
It just feels like it would be a huge waste of resources to do remasters from the Switch for the next system. Like, why? Nintendo isn't Sony, their philosophy is pretty different. The reason rereleases on Switch that originally released on the Wii U made sense was because the Wii U wasn't stacking up to be a very popular platform, so giving those games a second chance on Switch made all the sense in the world. The built-in backwards compatibility of this new system just negates any reason to do something like that. I could totally see performance patches as somewhat of a possibility, but not this. I think a lot of people would just like to see brand new games, with a remake here and there. My personal hope is for Nintendo to utilize way more of their IPs this time. Honestly they've gotten to kind of a good start on exactly that in these last few years of the Switch.
I was saying the Switch 2 would be the reverse Wii-U for years. Broadcasting to the dock while it's in your hands. So yes, I think you're right. But a TOTK remaster is crazy dawg
BotW would probably be better received even if it's ridiculous that a game would be on 3 consecutive console generations. But Twilight Princess was, so 🤷♂️
If anything, I think they'll just do minor performance updates on Switch 1 games and be like "wow, you don't even have to buy remaster this gen, don't you hate those?" and it would print money because I think people would be more excited to see their favorite Switch games soft-remastered when they upgrade the console than buy a remaster of a 2 year old game lmao.
Everyone is crazy if you don’t want to experience TOTK with better performance. That game is 10 years ahead of all games with 10 year old hardware, it’s in most need of the update. BOTW doesn’t *need* it as much.
I'm gonna combine two of your ideas, because the Switch 2 rumors have driven me insane. We get a trailer with panning shots of Hyrule. There's obvious evidence it's Tears of the Kingdom. Everyone thinks it's a remaster. But then, it pans down to the cliff where Link walks out in the beginning of Breath of the Wild. But Link doesn't walk out... Kirby does. He turns around and looks at the camera and says "Hiiiiii~!" Cut to black.
Considering how every said "Splatoon 3 could have been DLC for Splatoon 2" I fully believe they're gonna do Splatoon 4, there isn't any reason to do Splatoon 3 Remastered when they've already done the Final Splatfest for Splatoon 3.
They might make Splatoon 3 available on Switch 2, to keep the player count up whilst they work on the next one, but I don't foresee them putting much effort into it Splatoon 3 has come its narrative conclusion.
Clearly what I want vs Arlo from animal crossing is fundamentally different. I want design to be scaled back for more randomness like the old games. So it doesn’t feel like you control every aspect of your villagers lives.
Ikr! I really loved the feeling of just living in the town and rolling with what would happen I don't want to micromanage things. I want interesting neighbors and activities
I want mean dialogue back, damn it! My favorite characters from the old games were always the Grumpy villagers, and I adored slowly earning their trust and friendship over a long period of time. It made the relationship feel earned. I absolutely hate how villagers in New Horizons are just *instantly* your best friends, no matter what. It makes the villagers feel like identical, mindless, smiling drones.
No shit honestly. There are enough games where you craft literally everything. Doesn't help that Nintendo went about it in a really tedious way and a lot of the cool NPC interactions, random events, and cool collectibles were nowhere to be found.
I’ve been playing Animal Crossing for 20 years and I absolutely love being able to design and decorate. If it’s not something you enjoy, then just don’t engage with it. Don’t terraform and leave the map as is. Keep things simple. But don’t take it away from players who DO like that gameplay.
I think you’re 100% right that scaling back is what a lot of long-time AC fans want. But as someone who watched an embarrassingly large number of videos by AC newbies (many of whom built entire RUclips channels just from ACNH!), that’s not what new fans want. New fans want to be able to control every leaf, every villager invite, every paving stone, every building. And I think Nintendo will be more inclined to satisfy the new, noisier fans than the existing ones
You might have forgotten Arlo, but Sakurai's next game is probably nearing completion through next year. According to the man himself. Definitely something to comprehend.
I kind of doubt that it’s smash Sakurai is talking about. Kid Icarus would obviously be cool but Kirby has been pretty quiet with new stuff ever since RTDLD and forgotten land. Air ride?
I rarely disagree with you Arlo. But with the Switch being backwards compatible, I don't think we'll see remastered games on the Switch 2. We can already play these games on the platform at launch (I would imagine). Its hard for me to imagine Nintendo wasting their time and money making these games again when they're already available on the platform. And I have an even harder time believing people that bought these games on the Switch wanting to double dip when they can just redownload their game already.
I could definitely see a few "definitive editions" Like with Breath of the Wild, and maybe Smash Ultimate. But there's no way in heck that they're remastering Tears of the Kingdom or Splatoon 3. That's utter nonsense. Heck, even if they did definitive editions, I feel like they'd release them as Switch games, not Switch 2 games. And they'd just have better performance for Switch 2 built into them.
I agree. There might be a handful but the reason they got away with charging $60.00 for ports of Wii U games is because the Wii U massively under performed and very few Switch Owners got an opportunity to play those games. So they were able to claim they were "Basically new games." Like when a dad buys their teenager a used car and pulls the "but it's new to YOU" card.
The TOTK remaster will be a free upgrade 100% sure. Any other option will either create confusion or outrage. Doing a free upgrade will be a fantastic marketing move
This is the company that charged money for every Virtual Console game that people had already bought on Wii, just to play them again on Wii U. I hope it’d be a free upgrade, but I wouldn’t put it past Nintendo to rerelease it just to give it some new branding so it doesn’t seem like an old game.
100%. They also usually have 2 year cycles, and FE Engage was released Jan 2023. What's odd is that FE missed their typical advertising window, so I assume the next game will be tied as a Switch 2 launch title or soon to come on Switch 2.
Just my two cents on the Kirby prediction. Kirby has never had an initial reveal that was purely cinematics. An initial reveal for a Kirby title has always been a gameplay trailer. Forgotten Land's trailer was as cinematic as it got and it was still very much a gameplay trailer first and foremost. Maybe a post-Forgotten Land climate is different for the series than I expect, but I personally expect them to stick with the current format of a standard gameplay reveal.
I think the Switch 1 remastered will probably be more of a Switch 2 upgrade patch for owners of the original game, idk why is Arlo tweaking expecting a remastered of a already compatible games, this is some Bowser's Inside Story remake stuffs
I think remastering Switch 1 games is more likely than people think, you’d be surprised what a simple branding change, like putting a “Switch 2” logo on a game box instead of a “Switch 1” logo can do. I don’t see them being huge releases, more just rereleases under new branding. I will agree and say that BOTW instead of a TOTK remaster is a bit of an odd choice, though.
@@user-be3qc7re9o The PS5 is backwards compatible with the PS4, but most consumers looking for PS5 games in a store are more likely to buy a remastered game with a PS5 logo than the PS4 game, even if both work on the PS5.
If I spent $70 on Zelda TotK just for Nintendo to sell me it again 2 years later for ANOTHER $70 to have slightly better graphics, I'm gonna have to call in Luigi
I know that these prediction videos are never to be taken too seriously and always have a humorous tone to them, though I do gotta say it feels wild how convinced Arlo is that Nintendo will go all out on advertising the Switch 2's enhanced graphics capabilities, when Nintendo have never really been about advertising the technical aspects of their systems very much. It's also for that reason that I really doubt the system will launch with a remaster and think a new 3D Mario at launch is still much more likely.
Whilst I agree this video has been a bit odd, it does make sense for them to promote graphics and technical things because in the past their consoles have been very different from the previous generation, whereas the switch 2 seems it will be in the style of PlayStation and Xbox where it’s just a technical improvement
@@Wurmze Well, so far, we can still only assume that'll be the case, since there's still very few official infos on the Switch successor. Since this is Nintendo we're talking about, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them still hiding some major new feature. I kinda expect this to be a "DS to 3DS" situation, where they'll have a pretty straightforward successor, but with one or two major new features that advertisments will focus on.
I do find it weird how he imagines there being remasters to games on the switch to the switch 2 when the switch 2 has been confirmed to be backwards compatible.
I feel like an online iterative shooter like Splatoon 3 getting a remaster after it stopped receiving new content a year ago (by the time it would get remastered) would just be weird, like they're probably not gonna grab any new players with that given the hype cycle has run its course with that game. It also just doesn't really need a remaster when it already runs at the a consistent 60, especially when it's gonna already be playable on Switch 2. At that point just put those resources towards a new game with new content.
I really don’t get why arlo is so convinced about ‘social’ being the focus, gaming has been doing that for the past 2 gens and it hasn’t worked out that well.
My 11-year-old has access to a good gaming PC, and an Xbox Series X, and a healthy array of games including Game Pass Ultimate.. He plays NOTHING but Roblox. When we go the the library, every computer that is in use is playing.....Roblox. Our Switch never gets used unless I use it. Younger kids, (still Nintendo's target audience), are obsessed with social, and I think Nintendo knows this.
Wouldn't the Switch 2 being backwards compatible mean that there wouldn't even be a need for 2 different versions of the game? And that it would naturally look and run better in Switch 2 regardless?
@@zephshoir Yes and no. I think the closest place to look would be the Quest 2 vs Quest 3. Games do tend to run at a more stable framerate on the newer hardware but their internal render resolution doesn't get upgraded unless the developer updates it to do so. Same with textures/LOD/shadows, etc. It's not necessarily a different version of the game, but a lot of developers on quest will heavily promote a 'Quest 3 update' to their games that makes them look substantially better, beyond the pure performance increase of running the existing title on better hardware.
@@zephshoir retro always aims for a flawless 60fps so putting it in switch 2 would only improve it's resolution They'll have to go and build better assets and add stuff for a switch 2 only version
It won't be. It is gonna run through backward compatibility on Switch 2. Maybe you will get better loading time. It is gonna be disappointment like Bayonetta 3. It will come and go like fart. It will sell 1.4 million and nobody will care. They should have make it Switch 2 exclusive.
@@cripheponine Wii U and Switch 2 are not comparable in the slightest in terms of nomenclature. "Wii U" did not actively establish that it was a replacement for the Wii, whereas "Switch 2" obviously insinuates it is the sequel to the Switch.

Okay I really hate the C button prediction you made. If Apple can get any Apple product to pop up with a simple prompt on Apple devices, why in the flying (kirby) would we need a button to do a simple function???
@@randallbro6749 I didn't self like so now I have 2 likes just to prove that such a weird thing to observe and assume and I with Apple devices it's different because you have to open AirPods to actually get them to detect and you only use it with your own devices not other people's devices so your AirPods aren't constantly interrupting others
I feel like Wonder 2 is definitely a 2026 game, if 3D Mario is taking up the 2025 spot. 2D Mario platformers have always been _big_ sellers (second only to Mario Kart in terms of Mario franchise sales), and it makes sense to me that Nintendo would want one to be on Switch 2 ASAP.
I feel like this video still couldve been perfectly fine on the main channel. It doesnt need to be a big fancy production as long as it is prime content like this end of year stuff. This channel should just be for random rambles that the dedicated viewers want, but dont need to clutter up the main channel.
You know, your "connect" button idea didn't win me over at first, but this is the company that did Street Pass. Maybe you take the Joycon around with you and it connects to nearby Switch 2 controllers, and you can check on a phone app or something. If we're getting even further into weird ideas land: Maybe the Joycon also acts kind of like a vmu, so you can take your Animal Crossing character to your friend's house on your "Connect" controller. And maybe you can wirelessly connect to a display/phone to play minigames right from your Joycon. Heck, if we're in super weird ideas land, maybe the Joycon has a mini projector inside it.
No offense, Arlo, but I hate your prediction for the next Animal Crossing. I want Animal Crossing to be a life sim again, not some half-baked sandbox designer game.
Same, but New Horizons definitely showed they want it to be the latter. I wouldn't be surprised if Arlo's prediction cones true, although I'm also very much disinterested in that kind of game.
I expect the magnets to take center stage in the console's identity. I often see people talking about how they need to make the console a different color to differentiate it with the first model, but that's because they're thinking in static images (because of the leaks most likely) but imagine ads showing how the joy-cons attach and detach magnetically, every ad will show it at the end alongside the name of the console, and the logo animation will be tweaked to show the new gesture (pulling/pushing instead of sliding).
I agree; considering the fact that they are likely using Hall Effect Sticks, they can market that as "Look! More magnets!" rather than directly admitting to the awful durability of the Joycons.
I can almost guarantee that we'll get official confirmation that the Switch succesor will, indeed, be released one day...but the details on "when?" are a little foggy
@ you don’t need to always go up. they can just make a game that’s playable competitively with casual appeal and it’ll still sell as long as the system it’s on sells
@@Chillaccino1 but why would they bother replacing a game that doesn't really need a sequel Nintendo isn't one to make sequels just for the sake of making them for money they usually try to make a unique product and smash ultimate is already great for casual and competitive play while having tons of content plus Sakurai wouldn't probably be involved
Hard disagree with the switch remaster and above all Splatoon 3?! They 100% will do Splatoon 4, maybe even for 2025. But I think it will be more ljke 2026. But never ever a remaster of 3. Animal crossing could probably be a launch title, this would be interesting. I would even say MP4 + AC would be a pretty good duo for launch.
I think Animal Crossing as a launch title is more likely than most people think. Nintendo knows how popular it was, and New Horizons hasn’t had any updates in a good while. Animal Crossing alone sold a ton of Switches in 2020. A sequel could definitely get a lot of casual gamers onboard on day 1.
I predict we'll get these tracks for Nintendo Music: Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Luigi's Mansion 3 Super Mario Party Kirby and the magical Mirror WindWaker Warioware Touched I also predict: Mario's 40th anniversary will see the reveal of a new 3D Mario, A Woolly World port, An announcement of Luigi's Mansion 4, A Warioware, and a trailer for the second Mario movie.
I know this wasn’t like your usual vids but I wanted to drop here that this was a great way to start of my Christmas morning! Hoping you have a very healthy and happy 2025 Arlo! Of course with lots of great games ☺️
Why the hell would a "Connect" button be the letter "C"? That's just stupid. It only works in a few languages and goes against Nintendo's other design elements. The Home Button isn't the letter "H", it's a house icon. The Screenshot Button isn't the letter "S", it's a camera lens.
I feel like they HAVE to release a new 3D Mario at launch. No other game would give a big reason to buy the Switch 2 early. Animal Crossing might be a good showcase of social features but the switch 2’s biggest seller is likely going to be the power upgrade, and I feel like animal crossing has already reached its graphical limit in terms of the art style
Insert the GameCube, where they launched with Luigi's Mansion instead of a 3D Mario. Nintendo doesn't HAVE to do anything. The 3DS had Pilotwings & Steel Diver as it's big launch game for crying out loud 😂
Mario Kart 9 will be a launch title, or at least release in 2025. Some rumors on Reddit point to a launch title with the number '9'. It's been over a decade since Mario Kart 8 first released on Wii U, so a brand new Mario Kart makes sense. You also have to consider that 2025 is the 40th anniversary of Mario. We may see TWO major Mario titles - new 3D Mario and Mario Kart 9 - in 2025 to celebrate that anniversary.
I don't think that Mario Kart will be a launch title unless you want it to release in a very buggy and unfinished state. We can wait until Spring 2026 for Mario Kart. Be patient.
Even though we haven't gotten a new Mario Kart in ages, the development of the next Mario Kart probably started development around late 2023 after Tour and the Booster Course Pass wrapped up. So unfortunately you'll have to wait until Spring 2026 the earliest.
@ I doubt they needed an entire team for the Booster Pass. They could’ve laid the groundwork for the next title simultaneously. Plus there was a lot of time between the release of 8 Deluxe and the Booster.
A TOTK remaster would have to be be a free update for those who bought it on Switch. There’s just no way Nintendo can conceivably re-release the game anywhere near full price just two year after release. It simply won’t fly.
My Nintendo predictions: - Until Switch 2 launch Nintendo will continue to remakes and ports to keep Nintendo Switch interest up. Where we will see rumoured Metroid Prime 2 & 3 & Kirby Robobot. - Mario 3D All Stars will get a reprinted for Mario's 40th anniversary. - Mario 35 will return for the 40th but built as it's own full Online battle royale game. Mystery mushrooms from Mario Maker will return as cosmetic items. While the game adds new stage from various 2D Mario games, but done in the original Mario 1 style. - Most of Switch remaining original/bigger remakes titles will come out after the Switch 2 launch so Nintendo could prop up Year 1 of Switch 2. Meaning Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon Legends Z-A, and the Fire Emblem Genealogy remake will be released after the Switch 2 release. - 3D Mario for Switch 2 launch game with a new Mario Kart being the Fall title. - Animal Crossing New Horizons will get a Switch 2 sku. Bundling the DLC. But the game will also get a free update for both consoles, similar in scope to Welcome Amiibo update for New Leaf. As well as getting performance boosts from Switch 2. - Mario Kart will get it's first Amiibo line. Actually depicting iconic karts from the series. For example Mario riding the classic pipe frame kart. - Mario Maker 3 will be teased to end the Mario anniversary in March 2026. This game will bring back the two screen building through the connect feature. Along with a new Mario Wonder style & badge system, and bunch of ideas that were scrapped due to the 2020 ending the support of Mario Maker 2.
If I were to guess, they wont reveal the switch until January 25th. At least for most major retailers the return date for holiday items is January 24th. I feel like they wont want people returning their pirchases once the new one is announced
Getting my "Arlo calls it but nintendo delays it by a whole year" bingo card ready. The patterns show. Im slowly learning their patterns...they caught me off guard so far, but im definitely sure its gonna be the same this year.
3:35 The only thing I want from a new Animal Crossing is a reason to visit other people's villages. New Horizons was such a social phenomenon, probably due to the times, but there was almost no reason to actually play together. It was even kind of a pain to do as you were so limited as a guest with what you were even allowed to do. Maybe being able to be neighbors and have some interactivity between your villages where your villagers will visit one another and become friends with your neighbors and their villagers and utilize their economies. Maybe each type of attraction requires a set amount of resources and you can only get the best version of it by specializing in only that type, so finding new neighbors who have focused on different types of attractions will help your villagers be the happiest they can be.
I enjoy your predictions Arlo, because there is a childish joy behind them that lights up my imagination, and even then Ninty will surprise us. Great vids as always
Metroid Prime 4 HAS to be a launch title for me. What better way to make Metroid more succesful than having a great first person shooter game at launch.
F-Zero. We are going to get an F-Zero trailer this year. The concept is focusing on the "Battle" aspect of F-Zero racing, and the constant switching between boosting, attacking, shielding, and recovering.
I feel like a mario kart makes a bit more sense for a social type game than animal crossing to launch with. I also feel like switch remasters are not coming. It made more sense with the wii u since there was no backwards compatibility and the games were so good but just didn't have the install base to succeed which is not the case for switch games. Other titles for the year imo is a new mario 3d platformer on switch 2 Metroid Prime obviously either as a dual release or just s1, splatoon 4, then legends ZA. Then for one wacky pick im just going to say a new star fox game since it never got anything really on switch 2.
Yeah I don’t think Nintendo is going remaster a single game released on Switch. Backwards compatibility alleviates that worry for consumers. I think they’ll run better on Switch 2, and patches going forward would be to optimize the Switch 2 version while Switch games receive their final updates in 2025
I seriously doubt _Legends: Z-A_ will be cross-gen. It’s been almost an entire year since it’s announcement and we’ve gotten nothing since, not even a rough trailer to give us an idea of what the game will look like, like they did with _Legends: Arceus_ . This is especially unique because GAME FREAK loves to rush their games out ASAP, ideally having a release of some kind every year. Because of these circumstances, I’ve theorized that _Z-A_ will be a Switch 2 exclusive. Otherwise, what’s stopping them from giving us _anything_ related to it? They could so easily afford to show us something if it were also slated for a Switch release.
Arlo argues that its been 5 years since New Horizons, so its about time for another for Switch 2 launch. But when he mentions Smash, which released 7 years ago by next year, he says they're still years away from a new entry... that doesn't make sense to me 🤔 And no mention of a new Mario Kart game, which hasn't seen a new entry in 11 years? Sounds like Arlo is going out with his wild predictions that might or might not make sense lol
Why would they not release Metroid prime 4 on switch 2, considering it will most likely be releasing so close to Switch 2, that’s a bizarre prediction, I’d be baffled. Honestly, at this point it’d make more sense if it ONLY launched on Switch 2
My predictions (Gonna play it safe): - Switch 2 reveal and release in the same year (PLEASE have Hall Effect Joysticks!) Wouldn't it be cool if the Switch 2 released on March 10th? - Mario Kart 9 (The most obvious guess on here.) - New 3D Mario (It's gonna look even better than Odyssey thanks to Switch 2's stronger hardware.) - Next Smash game revealed (I can't wait to go insane from speculation all over again!) - Waluigi in Smash (The joke isn't funny anymore. Let him smash already!) - Metroid Prime 4 Instead of remastering Switch 1 games for the Switch 2, Nintendo could release a free DLC/update exclusive to Switch 2 owners that increases the performance and graphics of these Switch 1 games. Hearing you say Tears of the Kingdom remaster left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm immediately reminded of Naughty Dog and The Last of Us.
I really hope Arlo is wrong about Nintendo doing a bunch of "Deluxe" ports of Switch games on Switch 2. Since the Switch 2 is going to be backwards-compatible anyways, it just doesn't make sense to me. I feel like these games would flop the same way Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story did on 3DS because people could ALREADY play the game on that console. It would just be so underwhelming and frankly a very bad look for Nintendo. Especially considering people already expect the Switch 2 to automatically be able to upscale games and improve the framerafe. If that ends up being a feature, these Deluxe ports would be completely redundant. If it's not a feature and they sell these games to us again for 70 bucks, people are going to be LIVID. It would be an absolute PR disaster. Wii U to Switch was different because the install base on Wii U was so low, so the people upset about ports were a vocal minority. The Switch also couldn't natively play Wii U games because we went from a disc drive to cartridges. Porting Switch games to Switch 2 would be such an absolute slap in the face, and I will not be buying any if those titles. They would really have to work hard to regain my consumer trust if they did that.
Ok so!! In my opinion there wont be any "remasters", but some games will have graphical updates for free/already there if you input a switch game in the switch 2 I don't think theyll port any Splatoon even if there *are* "remasters" since its online and Splatoon 3's update cycle concluded in September, so theyre most likely developing the next splatoon :] My predictions are: Legends ZA release second half of the year, pokemon gen 5 remake *announced* (not released), a mii title at launch, and zelda remasters at some point :] (also maybe a mario title)

My lovable furry blue brother in Christ, we’ve been getting remasters on Switch because no one bought the Wii U so the majority of people never played those games. We’ve gotten remakes lately because the main teams are working on switch 2 games. They’re not selling a new console with games everyone already has access to.
Unless they want to be like Sony
Yeah I don't know why he doesn't realize this at all. THis is the whol reason Nintendo is making a whold new development building because they're smart enough to realize that they can't port nearly as many Wii U titles and will only be able to rely on new software in the age of increasing development costs.
Yeah, not to mention the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible, unlike Switch was with Wii U games.
Xenoblade X will keep people busy for a WHILE.
Also we know the next thing will be back compat... so they're definitely not remastering anything from switch 1 for a while, is my belief
The purpose of the C button is obvious. It will allow Nintendo to let switch 1 pro controllers and joycons not function on the new system.
Holy shit the compatibility button
Meh who knows. Wiimotes worked on Wii U. The GameCube controller worked on Wii and, with an adapter, on Wii U and even Switch. Nintendo doesn't have a bad track record on backwards compatibility. They certainly don't tend to go out of their way to prevent it when it would be easy to implement.

Arlo in this video: "Okay, but why don't they basically just keep updating the same game forever?"
It almost feels like trolling at this point lol

Why would they remaster a 2 year old bestselling game for a backwards compatible sequel console to one of the best selling consoles of all time???
Yeah that was really baffling to me.
There were rumors of Breath of the Wild getting re-released on Switch 2, and that at least makes sense to me.
There's a lot of quality of life features that are in Tears of the Kingdom that weren't in Breath of the Wild. So they could add those. They could also include all of the DLC and maybe even restructure it to fit into the game more naturally. etc.
"Breath of the Wild: Definitive Edition"
Could be released for either Switch 2 OR the original Switch, but with better performance on Switch 2.
_(ideally they'd make the Definitive Edition features available as an update for the original for those who have it, but I could easily see Nintendo forcing people to rebuy the game)._
But yeah, Tears of the Kingdom really has... nothing to change with a Definitive Edition release, other than graphics. No way they're doing that.
Feels like something Sony would do on the PS5
But Twilight Princess was, so 🤷♂️
Yeah why TOTK first? I would much rather get a BOTW remake first.

Clearly what I want vs Arlo from animal crossing is fundamentally different. I want design to be scaled back for more randomness like the old games. So it doesn’t feel like you control every aspect of your villagers lives.
Ikr! I really loved the feeling of just living in the town and rolling with what would happen
I don't want to micromanage things.

That’s what I been thinking, it doesn’t make a lot of sense
I could definitely see a few "definitive editions"
Like with Breath of the Wild, and maybe Smash Ultimate.
@ They also probably did both those reasons for marketing and money reasons
Splatoon 3 remaster might be the most mind boggling thing I’ve ever heard
The TOTK remaster will be a free upgrade 100% sure. Any other option will either create confusion or outrage. Doing a free upgrade will be a fantastic marketing move
Nintendo doing something for free? Not happening 😂
Why would they want marketing equivalent value of a couple billion$ when you could make 50 million in resales. Come on bro, you're not making sense.
This is the company that charged money for every Virtual Console game that people had already bought on Wii, just to play them again on Wii U. I hope it’d be a free upgrade, but I wouldn’t put it past Nintendo to rerelease it just to give it some new branding so it doesn’t seem like an old game.
Why would they do Totk before Botw? They wouldnt.

I love how arlo speaks with so much certainty, like he actually got insider information😂

Agreed
"Connect this Switch to other people" -- You heard it here first, folks! The Switch 2 will have a Cyborg add-on!
i’m confident in a new smash and not a remaster. it’s been 6 years since ultimates release
Kinda hard to go up from smash ultimate other than new characters and more balance changes I feel like smash ultimate doesn't really need a follow up
@ you don’t need to always go up. they can just make a game that’s playable competitively with casual appeal and it’ll still sell as long as the system it’s on sells
I want a new 3D Kirby game.
Me 2
Fuck yeah
Thanks for still putting a predictions video out!
15:30 Will do.
I predict we'll get these tracks for Nintendo Music:
Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
Luigi's Mansion 3
Super Mario Party
Kirby and the magical Mirror
WindWaker
Warioware Touched
I also predict:
Mario's 40th anniversary will see the reveal of a new 3D Mario, A Woolly World port, An announcement of Luigi's Mansion 4, A Warioware, and a trailer for the second Mario movie.
Love u Arlo. Catching up on your videos after coming back from the holidays!
Disagree with almost all of your takes this time, but always enjoy watching!
Suck up
I know this wasn’t like your usual vids but I wanted to drop here that this was a great way to start of my Christmas morning! Hoping you have a very healthy and happy 2025 Arlo! Of course with lots of great games ☺️
that connect button prediction is going to be one of those ones we look back on when the system gets revealed and say "holy fuck, he nailed it."
Why the hell would a "Connect" button be the letter "C"? That's just stupid. It only works in a few languages and goes against Nintendo's other design elements. The Home Button isn't the letter "H", it's a house icon. The Screenshot Button isn't the letter "S", it's a camera lens.
Thanks, Arlo! These are always the highlight vids of my whole year. Take your time with going back to the old format and take care of yourself ❤
Agreed
Insert the GameCube, where they launched with Luigi's Mansion instead of a 3D Mario. Nintendo doesn't HAVE to do anything.
The 3DS had Pilotwings & Steel Diver as it's big launch game for crying out loud 😂
Mario kart 9 is DEFINITELY a launch title. It’s been more than 11 years since Mario kart 8.
Be patient.
Don't pay attention to reddit rumors it's just people pipe dreaming what they want
A world where the next 3D Mario isn't a launch title ISN'T A WORLD I WANT TO LIVE IN
You had no problem with Sunshine, Galaxy, 3D Land, 3D World and Odyssey not being launch titles for their respective consoles.
Arlo are you seriously having us wait even longer for a new Mario Kart 😭
Even though we haven't gotten a new Mario Kart in ages, the development of the next Mario Kart probably started development around late 2023 after Tour and the Booster Course Pass wrapped up. So unfortunately you'll have to wait until Spring 2026 the earliest.
@ I doubt they needed an entire team for the Booster Pass. They could’ve laid the groundwork for the next title simultaneously. Plus there was a lot of time between the release of 8 Deluxe and the Booster.
@peterjack1.0 The Mario Kart team made the 4 years of Tour's updates as well.
@ still doesn’t take an entire team
@peterjack1.0 series producer Hideki Konno was busy with other projects throughout the years.
A TOTK remaster would have to be be a free update for those who bought it on Switch. There’s just no way Nintendo can conceivably re-release the game anywhere near full price just two year after release. It simply won’t fly.
My Nintendo predictions:
- Until Switch 2 launch Nintendo will continue to remakes and ports to keep Nintendo Switch interest up.
Thanks Arlo. Great video as always.
If I were to guess, they wont reveal the switch until January 25th. At least for most major retailers the return date for holiday items is January 24th. I feel like they wont want people returning their pirchases once the new one is announced
I bet 1K dollars they announce the Switch’s successor!
…the c button won’t be a connection button because you don’t want a button like that to be where it can accidentally hit.
I enjoy your predictions Arlo, because there is a childish joy behind them that lights up my imagination, and even then Ninty will surprise us. Great vids as always
I don’t want a social Switch 2
Metroid Prime 4 HAS to be a launch title for me. What better way to make Metroid more succesful than having a great first person shooter game at launch.
F-Zero. We are going to get an F-Zero trailer this year. The concept is focusing on the "Battle" aspect of F-Zero racing, and the constant switching between boosting, attacking, shielding, and recovering.
Gx remaster is the rumor. F zero 99 was a solid concept and that. can be the basis of future titles provided GX performs well
I feel like a mario kart makes a bit more sense for a social type game than animal crossing to launch with.
If the prediction is they're going all out with a connect feature, I'd say it'd be more appropriate that they call Switch 2 the Switch Connect.
But when he mentions Smash, which released 7 years ago by next year, he says they're still years away from a new entry... that doesn't make sense to me 🤔
And no mention of a new Mario Kart game, which hasn't seen a new entry in 11 years? Sounds like Arlo is going out with his wild predictions that might or might not make sense lol
if the "connect button" is real im predicting that you can use multiple switches on one dock
Why would they not release Metroid prime 4 on switch 2, considering it will most likely be releasing so close to Switch 2, that’s a bizarre prediction, I’d be baffled. Honestly, at this point it’d make more sense if it ONLY launched on Switch 2
You’re pretty bold on predictions this year. I mean Jesus! But I think we’re getting a remake Fire Emblem in 2025. And it’s gonna be Genealogy, baby!
3D Kirby for year 2 is perfect. I do think we get Robobot on switch 1 in 2025. 2 Kirbys in a row makes sense considering the frequent releases
Still hoping that robobot remake rumor is true
You also REALLY need to stop expecting to give us dlc lol they dont like dlc. Wev had maybe 10 dlcs in Nintendo games over the past 20 years lol
My predictions (Gonna play it safe):
- Switch 2 reveal and release in the same year (PLEASE have Hall Effect Joysticks!)
Wouldn't it be cool if the Switch 2 released on March 10th?
- Mario Kart 9 (The most obvious guess on here.)
- New 3D Mario (It's gonna look even better than Odyssey thanks to Switch 2's stronger hardware.)
- Next Smash game revealed (I can't wait to go insane from speculation all over again!)
- Waluigi in Smash (The joke isn't funny anymore. Let him smash already!)
- Metroid Prime 4
Instead of remastering Switch 1 games for the Switch 2, Nintendo could release a free DLC/update exclusive to Switch 2 owners that increases the performance and graphics of these Switch 1 games. Hearing you say Tears of the Kingdom remaster left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm immediately reminded of Naughty Dog and The Last of Us.
Bold and fun predictions. Good video Arlo
Hope your health gets better
A TOTK remake at launch is a bolder prediction than Nintendragons
A Tears of the Kingdom remaster over a Breath of the Wild remaster is certainly a prediction. Totk didn’t even get dlc
I couldn't care less about TOTK, but a BOTW remaster would get me hyped af even tho I've completed the game 5 times already
It’s time for a new Donkey Kong Country game, especially with the movie.
Ok so!! In my opinion there wont be any "remasters", but some games will have graphical updates for free/already there if you input a switch game in the switch 2
I don't think theyll port any Splatoon even if there *are* "remasters" since its online and Splatoon 3's update cycle concluded in September, so theyre most likely developing the next splatoon :]
My predictions are: Legends ZA release second half of the year, pokemon gen 5 remake *announced* (not released), a mii title at launch, and zelda remasters at some point :] (also maybe a mario title)
