    Excellent tutorial, thank you! I just completed my first one. It turned out very nice. I did learn a few things along the way that the tutorial doesn't cover as you guys are experts. Thought I'd mention it here which might save someone a bit of time.
    1. I wanted to add a bit of sparkle so used glitter but the top coat spray-on finish covered it. I like that finish so not really sure if I would have done anything differently other than forget glitter in the first place. But if anyone wants a sparkle, use the appropriate glitter, not the one added to nail polish, it needs to be a bit grainier.
    2. My 2nd coat of epoxy (I did use Stone Coat product exactly as in the tutorial) wasn't completely even due to a bit of texture so I mixed up a third layer. Unfortunately, I was a bit stingy on that third coat thinking a thin layer will do and it ruined the entire finish as it beaded up in places and didn't level out. Had to work my sander a bit to smooth out the surface and mix up a 4th coat. That coat was generous and came up very nice.
    A NEWBIE TIP: Turn off your HVAC and keep any house pets away from the area, enter work area with minimal disturbance of air. I had dust settle on my first coat (cat hair, lint, etc.). I let the last coat and top coat dry with absolute still air in the room with windows and doors closed.
    3. The drain got narrower with epoxy coats, the new appliance drain stopper didn't level well and is accumulating water at its edge. I will have to remove the drain stopper and grind out some material later to make the stopper fit better. Not a terrible situation but I am a perfectionist.
    Overall, this was fun project. I am now eager to try other resin projects.

    • @StoneCoatCountertops

      It would bond following the same prep steps, few things to consider. The slop of the shower pan will cause the epoxy to self level down the drain. Epoxy without grit in the shower pan can be slippy. We have a clear grit we are weeks away from releasing. It would be best if the shower pan was not installed and you could let the epoxy self level down the pan. Apply thin layers, sand between coats with 220 grit

    One question I have is what is the best place to do this kind of thing. I live in a humid environment how will that effect results?

    • @StoneCoatCountertops
      @StoneCoatCountertops  Год назад

      That is a great question. High humidity causes the epoxy to cure at quicker rate. The working time is still 45 min once mixed but for instance if you have a tape dam up because you did an exotic pour you'll pull the tape between 1.5 - 2.5 hours after mixing rather than 2.5-3.5 hours after mixing here in Oregon. A lot has to do with your shop temp also. Higher humidity, lower the temp in the shop to slow the cure. Thanks for watching and great question!
