Every time I see all of your beautiful batteries and chargers I feel like half a man. But on a serious note Brian you are a true blessing to our Hobby thank you for all that you do.
Thanks for the kind words!!!
21:15 is beautiful. I've had this jet for ages and have done about 20 flights, but still periodically come back to watch this little moment.
Camera Crew is doing an awesome job filming. You're both a blessing to this hobby.
Thank you very much! She sure does amazing camera work!!! So glad she's with me!
Awesome as always brother. I’m glad you opted for the road... no shame in that beautiful landing.
True! Better to swallow pride then to fix the nose gear AGAIN ;)
Thanks for all your content Brian, it's helped heaps! I also wanna acknowledge your solid effort at landing this beast on the carrier in this video 😄
Thanks Pete!!!
I 'am very happy ! I want to know everything about this beautiful jet !✈✈ very good flight and landing ! well done Brian 💙🎥🎬
Thanks Mike!
Thanks for doing this video. I just finally did the maiden on mine yesterday…. Tonight I did the flaperon mod.
You and your camera crew wife are awesome !! I'm learning so much from you're channel . In 1979 I was 16 years old and I wanted radio system to fly . It was crazy expensive. A two channel system used was 400.00 dollars. Jack Britton gave me my first system 2 channel. He was the best. He owned a hang glider shop ,and I would drive his car down the mountain of crest line in southern California, no charge just to drive. I got my friends to join me just to drive . They gave us lunch and a little money if they had it. Jack new I won't Ed to fly RC gliders and hang gliders some day, he said maybe some day. Me and my unlicenced crew of driver's , the hang glider pilots where awesome . They tout us how to drive . No tickets no crashes no problem . About 18 months of driving on my birthday the pilots gave me a used glider ,and jack gave me his 2 channel system futoba ,loved it ,crashed a lot . Gave system 5 years later to another RC pilot in need of first system . I haven't flew in 36 years ,and I have money now ,because I don't have a wife any more . So dumb ass me buy freewing F-14 tomcat and radio system , holy shhhh it was a great price for 6 channel system. I got it in the mail and said shit I'm Forest Gump ,and need to go TEC school for higher learning just to tern this damn thing on .thanks too you and your camera crew I'm learning ,just how stupid I am. Just kidding you guy's are great. You are the next hang glider shop teaching us how to drive . Thank David
Awesome story David! Glad you shared it. So much had changed, but so much has stayed the same ;) Too many toys, not enough money - LOL!!!
As for Freewing F-14 - that's one way to kick things off!!!
We're honored to have so many quality people with us here on our channel showing us support like you're doing. Thanks David, and hope to keep your attention for a while ;)
The flapperon elevator mix is so cool What a awesome jet Nice flying Brian Awesome job Camera Crew as always 🔥👍✌️
We agree! So cool, in deed! I love the way this plane flies, then even back taxing it, it just looks soooo beautiful!!!
I’m touching 50, one of my favorite flight simulators was Falcon 4.0 and that slow taxi reminded me of the cover art on the huge manual book that came with. That sim was supposedly a perfect simulator of the real F16. Growing up in the Air Force my dad was career Air Force i watched F15’s, F16’s, F4 Phantoms and A10 Warthogs flying low all day every day I loved it.
We had Falcon 4.0!!! I had forgotten about it, but it was cool!
Great stuff Brian. My favourite sound is when I hear you squeel when the plane is about to tip 😂😂
LOL - More like that coming ;) Stay tuned!!!
You guys are a hoot. Loving my starlink too! I wish I could pre-order but I never know where I'm going to be when something finally ships.
Thanks! Glad you're with us Aaron!
Dear Mr. 100K, Don't let your head swell (more). Hahahaha. Really CONGRATULATIONS! A real mile stone for you. I wish you well. You have been an excellent source of education and entertainment for me. Take the camera crew out for a big celebration, she deserves it.
I agree!
But if the head swells as part of the celebration, is that okay??? ;) I couldn't resist.
I use shelf liner on the battery trays held in place with double-side tape. Adds just enough extra friction that the batteries stay put when snugged with the straps.
NICE! So the Sticky stuff...not the slick stuff. I was visualizing the slick stuff, but I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, and it's a great idea!
@@BrianPhillipsRC yeah the cushy shelf liner, very thick. I imagine a roll will last a lifetime too, lol. I use it and it works great.
I subscribe a number of rc sites, but for me yours is the only one I feel compelled to turn on notifications. I see you made 100K congrats!!!
Thanks Michael!!!
you are a skilled r/c pilot flying around all those obstructions with such confidence :)
Thanks David! This is the way I learned ;)
Hi Brian, just started flying ,love watching your videos so much knowledge great to learn from you 😀
Thanks Denis! We're glad you're here with us, and glad you're learning a thing or two. Remember, much of what I share was recently learned - a good pilot is ALWAYS learning ;)
I'm glad to see this video I have the freewing 90mm F16 with a gyro and couldn't get the flaps to work with the gyro on only off position and now I got it to work👍in the flaperon position on with gyro😁😁
Awesome! Glad we could help ;)
Lucky you to have that zero traffic straight road!
LOL - It's only ZERO traffic when there's NOT a funeral going on ;)
Great video, I will have to watch how to set the transmitter again. Once again I always enjoy yours and camera crew aka "Megan" videos. Great job keep up the great work!!!!
Thanks again!
I followed the same method on the Conscendo. Works ok in flap mode and shortens the landing approach and glide. I did not try the crow flaps as I could not get the aileron throws equal. Be careful as you will run out of aileron authority. It was in windy and turbulent conditions.
yes, for sure!
Love this series, very informative.
Thanks Anthony! Glad you're here with us!
Love the excitement and energy. I’ll stick with my Maule 1.5 because I’m tired of glueing the carbon cub s2 back together. I did just order a Concsendo Evolution 1.5 from your links and am patiently waiting for it to arrive. One day, I’ll grow up and be just like you bro. 😎
LOL - Thanks!
Congratulations on 100,000 subs ❤️
Thank you!!
Found out by experimenting why only one aileron moves in Safe mode in your setup. it's because the initial receiver bind was in airplane wing mode "normal" If you wipe it all out, setup a new aircraft with wing type flaperon and THEN bind it, the gyros work both ailerons. Happy flying!!
Yes, I believe if I recall correctly, this was what I suggested, but didn't try it.
I LOVE flying this plane, but found that flapperons are not super helpful, while REVERSE THRUST IS AMAZING :)
What do you mean by “wipe it all”? Can I do it from the Transmitter (NX8)?
Im going to load a new blank setup on my vipers and give it a go, i like to have the safe a switch for standby
Aaaaah very nice, I had something very similar in mind as I commented on your first vid on the F-16 but who knew you wouldn't have to rig any mechanical mods and that you could just abracadabra that fancy electronic setup... as much as I hate Spektrum and I really really do, this sort of thing is nifty. I guess the next step is to split and open up the airbrakes ;)
I hear the reverse thrust is undermined by all the cheater holes...but I've got some ideas for that too. Stay tuned ;)
Congrats on 100k! Wow that last 2k took forever.
I AGREE!!!
Trees, road signs, highway runway, delicious.... Brian, I went from being excited to hungry to being excited again with your awesome flying. Haha. You are right. The planes are getting better as time goes on. Eflite is putting it on the competition. Hey, for quality. We’ll pay for it. I got to see this one fly in person at Pilot Ryan Flyin in Mulberry FL. She is so sweet! 👍👍
I was talking to him and Bobby K on the phone as they drove down there to the fly in! how did things go?
@@BrianPhillipsRC We had a great time. Lots of prizes given away to benefit the club. Really fun to meet fellow RUclipsrs in person. Thanks for asking. 😊
Hi Brian! I changed the specific wiring in the f-16 to activate the flaperons and indeed only one ailleron works in safe select. Does this cause the plane to level off a little slower than expected?
Thanks for the video! I fly at an electric only club and the runway is small for a jet so I'm gonna do this. A video I would recommend is Michal Wargo how to land a jet. There is allot of great info in this video. Until next time!
Good luck Michael! It's a lot of fun to learn this plane, and how to land on a postage stamp with it!!!
Hi Brian, I have flaps added..thanks!. Do you know if it's possible to add the afterburner ring also? I used up channel 6 for the flaps and don't have a slot for the afterburner. Thanks for your help in advance! Take care and keep these vids coming.
I still need to get this plane, another one on the list. great tips 👍🏻
It is very good. I'll be figuring out breaks next, if all goes to plan ;)
Your flying skills are awesome!!
I'm feeling more and more confident with this plane every time I fly it!!!
Can anyone help me with the afterburner ring setup with flaperons on the F-16? I have them set up under the 6 channel Port so how do I add the afterburner with throttle input? Thx
Brian , I Like you both you are a good term for what you do with RC GREAT. THANK YOU.
Our pleasure!
Got a bvm 1/5 scale done in the 132nd fighter wing tail number 303.
SWEET! Bet is a beauty!
Hey Brian, I'm curious what I did different. I set up Flaperons in the menu (even though Spektrum says do 1 ail 1 flap) and set up safe via forward programing and BOTH ailerons respond to safe auto leveling. I wonder why mine does and yours doesnt.
They changed this since we filmed, I think...so you might be dealing with an updated feature.
Oh man I love your Videos so much💪🏻💥🔥
Thanks Fynn!
You should fit an emergency net at the end of your runway to stop it rolling on and damaging the front wheel. Got to get one of them baby’s.
That would be cool, but how to keep it from getting dammaged?
Cool Paul , not a problem bud . The breaks is a "game changer" for moving alot of the jets straight into it's angle of attack soon as the back gear drops out . Put the breaks on a flap channel , first setting they will arm full flaps they will engage just remember that and you only the friction of 45-48% to arm the breaks and 54-56% the get a even engagement for the friction depending on what transmitter you wanna use . Lol I luv them JP hobby breaks . Lol a let's keep trying to get "The Man" Brian summoned in on the topic 😁 luv this guy man 😁👍
Sounds like you want to see some JP breaks??? ;)
🤣🤣🤣😂WE WANT TO HEAR FROM !!!YOU!!! I already know what the JP hobby breaks can do 🤣🤣😂YOU R THE MAN AND WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU . we luv you and the Ms Camera Queen . We luv your input on comments 🤣🤣😂
Beautiful sunset view of flight.
I believe real F16 has upto 60 deg flapperons deflection, so a bit more on this one shouldn't hurt
But With FLAPPERONS audiance is shouting for, "TOUCH & GO pattern session on AIRCRAFT CAREER... !!"
Got an idea for your spare channels...Add a servo operated airbrake parachute !
Thanks! I want to get breaks on this thing....
Do you have A video of setup on eflite flaperon Thunderbird f16?
CONGRATULATIONS 100k SUBSSS
Thank you so much 😀
19:26 my favorite part lol. I went through this setup fairly quick but I don't know how you can do this with a camera in your face. surprised you flew with as3x acting on one aileron only. maybe you didn't unlock the 637ta yet. cheers
Brian! Is there a way to get a Flap and Flaperon set up, more like you were doing in with the F-16 80mm, working on the F-18,( I know the F-16 doesn't have Flaps), . I don't see it as being an available set up in the aircraft setup list. Or, is that why you are trying to do the mixing at the end of the last vid on the Blue Angles F-18, where by getting the Stabilators to actuate the flaps more or less as you flare/pitch, while in that selected mode?
YES, but you will have to reprogram (or replace) the Rx. This would be AWESOME looking and functioning. The REAL deal F-18 has a full length flap/flapperon, as well as leading edge slats (or leading edge flap/droop depending on who you're talking too - LOL).
What you do is setup FLAPPERONS, then you mix the FLAP part to the SWITCH, and the Flapperons in FLAP MODE. It works pretty sweet, since you can get FULL function from both features then, including matching delays and elevator correction, if necessary.
The big issue here is the "...reprogram (or replace) the Rx..." since the F-18 was released BEFORE we could change the AR637T(A) without a full firmware upgrade ;\ Oh well, what's another $100 between friends - LOL!!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Hey Brian, I just love your RUclips channel and thanks so much for the response. Is this the best and most efficient way to communicate with you? As for the F-18, what if your starting from scratch with the AR636B Rx, can you simply set it up that way? Or does it still need to be swapped out with the 637T or TA? Thanks again for all you do for our hobby, as you make the learning curve Hugely! easier. Oh and do you think using thercgeek thrust tubes on the F-18 will give us better performance?
Great video as usual. Remember the old RC saying......nose heavy planes fly bad and tail heavy planes (Sometimes) fly once! 😂🤣
Jets seem to defy this logic for some reason ;)
Brian. Im settings up flaperons on my f15 all works but only one aileron servo works with safe. How did you get both ailerons in safe mode to work with flaperons?
You have to totally reprogram it from scratch. It's not a super quick thing.
Would there be a way to make/build a net retainer at the end of your runway to stop the jet on landing without damaging it kinda like what a tennis net looks like, just a thought.
It would work to stop the plane, but it would probably damage it pretty bad. Some people take a string and tie water bottles to either side and make an arrester cable ;)
Great videos, making life easier for those of us in need of help (and avoiding expensive crashes). With flapperons, how do I set up the afterburner ring light? Seems its supposed to plug in channel 6 then assign as throttle. That kinda messes up the flapperons. Do I really need an 8-channel RX if I want to have both the light and flapperons?
I'm real sorry, but don't know. I don't have the afterburner ring yet...
@@BrianPhillipsRC So Just to be clear you
-unplugged one aileron
-unplugged the lead that’s in channel 6
-plugged that aileron into channel 6
-the lead that was removed from channel 6. Did that go into the “y” harness where you just unplugged the aileron from?
Hi, what flap degree settings are you guys using with takeoff and landing flaps? Thanks
I don't measure, but we have setup in this video. If you follow along, you'll see what we do. I can't recall exactly, Mark.
I use reverse thrust on mine and it does just fine it stops very quickly. It’s noisy like a real jet reversing it’s engine. But it works well regardless of the cheaters.
Okay, I will try it. PD at Horizon claimed it didn't work????
Hey Brian, wanted to put flaperons on my E-flite 70mm F-16. I called Horizon & the tech told me that if I wanted AS3X on the ailerons I could not used channel 6 on the receiver. That only channels 2, 3 & 4 had AS3X control. Is this correct?? If so, why would they give you the option to have individual servos for each aileron if the AR636 receiver does not support AS3X on channel 6 & no where in the manual do they say that AS3X is not supported on channel 6? I really appreciate any support that you can give on this as I want to have flaperons on my 70mm F-16. I fly off a grass runway & right now it takes forever for my F-16 to take of without flaps.
We're gonna re-review this one, the 70mm soon. Stay tuned and you can see how we do it ;) The grass landings are gonna be TOUGH On the gear, still - fyi, or maybe you already know this. Might be better just to belly land it??? (I know, cringe - belly would be green!)
I’ve been flying the E-Flite Viper 90 for about a year and have become very good at landing it. How would you categorize the transition, skill wise, to the F-16?
Easier, but only slightly. We have just finished and are uploading a comparison video ;) Coming in a few days - hope you'll check it out.
Brian, does this fly like the f16 70mm? I haven’t flown this one yet or my viper 90. But have flown both 70 mm versions.
Way harder, and way more realistic looking. The 70 is a totally different plane...
Hi just watched your video over the eflite f16 80mm and ordered it because I wanted the viper 90 but it's on backorder. I've flown prop driven tail dragers and tricycle gear since I was 13 years of age and had a 20 year spread of no flying. Now I'm 47 years old and have always wanted a jet of some sort. I've been flying all eflite planes like at6 Texan 1.5, mustang 1.5, carbon cub ss 2.1 and the extra 300 1.3 with no issues at all for almost 4 years now flying them in my backyard from low cut grass as much as i can and love all 4 of them. Just wondering if the f16 would be good for my first edf. I've been using a DX6 for them and ordered a NX10 to be the replacement. Really wanted the viper 90 but I'm settling for the f16 80mm is that an ok aircraft to jump onto?
Good progression there...but keep in mind, the Viper 90mm will do grass pretty well, while the 80mm F-16 has some amazing but limited gear. If your grass is nice, you might be fine, but I don't want to tell you a line of BS...I suspect you'll be challenged. Fortunately, if you get it down, it'll slow down quick!!!
All I can say is - you better have nice grass!!! ;)
Am I remembering right that a servo relearn in forward programming would solve the 1 aileron correction glitch in safe mode? Or is this a result with a still locked rx? (I don’t know if it was jailbroken) And if safe isn’t working on the one side did you verify if as3x is?
You have to DEFAULT the Rx first on this plane...but I've got the AS3X on one wing, and I'm good with it for now. Maybe some day I'll put in an AR8360T and really pep this thing up ;) BUT I need to wait for the IX12 that HH has been "promising" me for about a year - LOL ;) I can't wait for that one...it'll happen some year - LOL
@@BrianPhillipsRC what do you mean by “default”? Can I do it using my NX8 only?
Your flying skills and knowledge amazes me! Great camera crew too!
Much appreciated! I'm always learning and practicing as often as possible. I don't fancy myself an especially good EDF pilot....but I'm getting better.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I just got a carbon cub s 2 rtf for my first plane. Watched your video on the build and followed along. Without that video I may have not been able to put it together. Hopefully my maiden run goes well this afternoon when I get home.
Do yo have a video that explains the NX,DX and all the X craziness with transmitters?
The progression? Not really, but NX is latest and Greatest...well, the IX are the BEST right now, but super expensive...so we don't even get them to review ;( But I had a DX18 and LOVED it and still use it today.
If you just want to cut the "noise" get an NX8 - best value in the line. Most features will be supported in the near term, and only cost ONE ARM (vs and arm and a leg) - LOL ;)
So hey brian is the bind and fly version 637 a good reciever and could i use a 6500mah
I think they're very good, and YES, I've flown on 7000mah packs ;)
brian!! ur magic brother. hands down!!
Thanks!!! No magic here, just practice ;)
Should have bought two of these when I was going to a few months ago when they were $499 each. Horizon spiked the prices on their Blade helicopters and planes a few weeks ago. These are going for $529 now and I was planning on buying two of them. One to fly and use with the other to keep new and put back for a backup/collector.
I hope you can still get both, but even if you don't - it is amazing!
Question. My draco is missing a few parts unfortunately. I contacted HH regarding the matter but my question is above the pilot on the ceiling I have a bunch of servo wires hanging down onto the pilot. Is there a hatch that goes on the ceiling or can you see wires up there?
YEAH - the REAR WINDOW comes out...then you can reach in there. I'm sorry to hear about this!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC when you look up in the ceiling above your pilot do you see a ceiling cover or do you see wires up there. Mine are hanging. I know the rear window comes out and there is a foam hatch on the floor of fuselage with wiring also but was just inquiring about ceiling. Thanks
Very cool!! While the real one uses flaperons, from my experience with all the different sized RC F-16s from 50mm-105mm, Spoilerons work better. I think its a wing loading thing too. When the ailerons go up a lil bit, it makes the plane pitch up which in turn slows it down but still allows you to have the aileron authority that you need. That way you can use the throttle to control sink rate which makes it so much easier to land... I plan to do that with mine when I get it!! But duuuuuuuude!!! Can you Imagine my Firey Booty Afterburner in there??? Holy damn!!! Bad asssss!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I will try this next time I fly...super easy to flip the FLAP MODE to the other direction.
Afterburner would be nice ;) Breaks would be even better ;) - Sorry couldn't resist!!!
I binded and set up my airplane and followed the instructions on your first unboxing video. On this video, I followed the steps but when I got to 12:10 on the video, my ailerons were not working as ailerons, but instead when I move the stick left and right, the ailerons moves like elevators (up and down). I do not know which step I didn't follow correctly or is it my airplanes problem? Were any steps not included in the video because I noticed a cut in the video in 11:39 and you are talking about the safe select reassignment
I had typed out a lengthy reply, then RUclips screwed it up!!!
Sorry. Here's the deal. Check and see what surfaces are moving RIGHT. Then let me know which one is NOT working right. This is how you'll need to narrow down what's going on.
If it's JUST the ailerons, there's a few things to check...there's a small breakout board on this plane, and I think you can find it if you look...but there's also loads of wires...gotta start looking around. You'll find something. If not, you have an incorrect servo in the wings...one's NOT reversed, or you have the wing type wrong. When you flip from normal to Flapperon, you have to reverse one of the channels. Might start there actually...and this part can be really counter-intuitive, since there's really no rhyme or reason to much of the "direction" of ailerons...since it can be different from plane to plane...
Start there, and get back with me on a NEW comment, so I'll see it.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you soo much! I reversed it and set the travel settings after I noticed the 2 ailerons werent in the same degree flap position. Now everything is fixed, its ready for action! I appreciate your help Brian
Took off for 2 seconds, lost sight, crashed, fully destroyed, $800 gone
I wish I had the room for one of these bigger EDF's.
It is so fun, but it's a very intense 3-3.5 minutes
I noticed when I did this setup f16 flaperons with nx6. when I drop flaps my left aileron has less control/movement than the other. I've checked every setting and maximized all throws and still stops at a certain point. Any insight?
This is a factory limitation as part of the BNF profile in the Rx. Only way to get past this is to replace the Rx or to factory reset the thing and do some work.
Whatever I did worked, but it's honestly been so long, I can't even exactly remember! I know it was way too easy, and really if one aileron move more than the other side (differential) then it's not a deal breaker, but if one FLAP(eron) goes down more then you'll be SOL...gotta fix it then.
@@BrianPhillipsRC i did some more fine tuning today. I actually did exact setup you did in this video except with 6 channels. I got flaperons to align and now it looks solid with full flaperons. just my left aileron has a tad less down movement than the right. Looks like I should be fine.. I'll just have a little less roll authority with flaps 80% down.
Also your videos have taken up most of my days recently haha love it. Thank you for all you do and camera crew!

Thanks for another video Brian!
I’d like to have SAFE work as expected and also have the flaperons.
What should I actually do? Do I need to use the USB to upgrade firmware? Do I need to do anything else? I’m not sure…
Thanks 🙏🏻
Gotta factory reset the Rx, or replace it...then you can setup all the features you want with full fidelity.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I was able to get everything to work as expected! Including Flaperons, Thrust Reverse and SAFE and only after I unlocked the AR637TA, then from the Forward Programming I did factory reset and finally a new SAFE setup :)
Thanks for the tips!
I would like to see a P-40 Warhawk , great video good to see so much enthusiasm.
You and me both! I think we're supposed to be getting the FMS P-40, but it's out of stock the last few times it came up...
Great job!! Heck to the yea!. Dude keep the videos coming, I like seeing this plane and others you have! Horizon, listen to Brian, dudes got some great ideas. Flaps or Flaperons on all planes that are above 120 dollars is what I say lol lol . On the Flip side its like 90' degrees here in Alabama.
Thanks! This plane is amazing, but I need to install some creative, scale looking breaking system now ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC well I will be waiting for the youtube notification for that video! I'm taking notes as we go.
I have a problem with my safe select, can someone help me? I think while i bound the plane first, the ground was not 100% lvl so if i switch on safe, the elevator is in a slight dive position. I tried to fix this with rebinding but nothing changes. Can someone tell me how to reset the safe neutral position? Would rly like to fly my f-15 maiden but i need safe for the handlaunch :D
What plane? The F-15 or F-16?
Sometimes if you have a mechanical trim needed, you will experience a slight downhill flight in SAFE Select.
First step...get the plane BOUND in SAFE.
See my STOCK reply about SAFE...
You CAN, and will after you follow these steps - I've had this comment from probably 50 or more, just as adamant as you, and they got theirs working ;)
Step 1) Make sure you're BOUND with SAFE SELECT ON. If you're NOT 100% sure - DO IT AGAIN, and make sure the surfaces "Dance" through the mix TWICE at power up...NOT ONCE...Once means you're in AS3X only mode.
Step 2) Go to MONITOR MODE, and watch the switch change the condition of the channel you THINK is assigned to the SWITCH YOU WANT TO USE - If it doesn't change state, go to System Setup and make the Channel Assignment to that switch. Now exit the menu and verify the changes took in Monitor Mode.
Step 3) Now that you're 100% sure you're BOUND in SAFE Select, and you have an operational switch for channel (I think 5-8) assigned, go ahead and pull both sticks DOWN and IN, and then toggle the switch to a count to 10 (NOT 5)....most people don't count a FULL CYCLE of the switch...so they never get to 5 full back and forth cycles... On step 9 of 10, you'll see the surfaces twitch, and on 10 of 10 they'll "recenter" again.
Here's PROBABLY what you're doing wrong...it's a super easy mistake to make, and you'll immediately get it if you are doing this wrong...
Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
Switch Up to Switch Down = 5
Switch Down to Switch Up = 6
Switch Up to Switch Down = 7
Switch Down to Switch Up = 8
Switch Up to Switch Down = 9
Switch Down to Switch Up = 10
When Horizon Hobby wrote those instructions they said 5 times, so this is what they meant, but it's confusing if not elaborated upon...
Switch Up to Switch Down = 0
Switch Down to Switch Up = 1
Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
Switch Up to Switch Down = 2
Switch Down to Switch Up = 3
Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
Switch Up to Switch Down = 4
Switch Down to Switch Up = 5
...pretty confusing, right??!?!?
Step 4) The ONLY issue that might prevent this all from working is that your sticks are WAY out of calibration... if so, the Tx might not realize you're in the Lower Left or Lower Right position, thus preventing the designation when you hit flip 10... so if this ends up being the case, which I highly doubt, then you need to calibrate your sticks and then follow back from step 2 maybe.
Good luck - you can do it!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I uploaded a short video to show my problem. You can also see that i set the trim to 0 and i filmed the Monitor Mode were it shows -1 and 1 on the elevator and alerons even if i don't touch them. You can see that the elveator/alerons change position if i hit the safe switch. (If i grab the plane and hold it inverted, i can also see that safe is working and i can turn it of with the assigned switch) I should also mention that i'm new to this radio and reciver systems. Maybe this isn't even a problem if i handlaunch it and turn safe of after that but i'm afraid that the plane will instant fly into the ground. Here is the video: ruclips.net/video/nlaQJfLNzB8/видео.html
These are wicked powerful and what I believe to be the finest quality, best fighter R/C jet on the market as of this writing in August 2021. They look awesome and fly just as well. You could do a lot worse blowing your $500ish on something less meaningful and fun. Pretty easy for 2 people to blow $50 - $60 on one night out and dinner at Texas Roadhouse. People spend $100+ at Wal-Mart these days on a bunch of crap they don't need thinking nothing of it. This would be the gift that keeps on giving.
I agree - If you want it, it is attainable. It's the best EDF JET I have!
Awesome video on Flaperons Brian!! At 17 minutes in you explain why only the one aileron works on SAFE due to channel 6 of the receiver not having SAFE programmed in. Is there any way to program SAFE into channel 6? Forward programming maybe? Thanks Again for your videos my friend!!
IGNORE this question Brian,, Just read your answer to Mr. Mysterious,, ANSWERED.. ;)
No problem ;) Yes, you CAN do it with a FULL factory reset of the Rx and just do it from scratch. It's not super hard, but the factory does a GREAT job of tuneing these BNF planes.
As usual, great video!!! Could you share a dedicated video on how to do this MOD? I watched this video but I personally didn’t get enough details to safely do this. Look forwardeo see what else you will publish about this plane.
The beginning of the video shows exactly what we did. Not sure what else you'd like to see...
@@BrianPhillipsRC , Brian thanks for replying! I had to watch the first part of the video a few times before I got all the details. But just to check; is it ok to fly in Safe with only one flap making the corrections? Just to confirm; the “bec” was plugged into ch6 and you then reconnected the bec into the y-cable for the ailerons?
Raptors are good for slow landings. The f-16 is light in the wings, hard to come in slow. The 70mm does come in a little slower
It can, but the 80 allows for getting the battery back further, easier...I just flew the 70mm, and it was a struggle to get that pack back far enough to flare...
It looked waaay better once you came in with high alpha nice landing !!!
I have a 5100mah 70c Admiral that weighs about the same as the 7000mah you are using. Did they make a typo with how much my Admiral weighs? If they didn't should I put my 5100 all the way back like you placed your 7000?
Just put it WAY back and let her rip ;) you'll be fine, but you may need more runway than I did ;)
I’m using a NX8 I have the afterburner hooked up so the 6th spot on the receiver is taken by the afterburner will I still be able to do flapperons somehow?
I am not 100% sure. Did you see what channel I was using? Can't you just "Y" off the Throttle channel for your Afterburner??? Then you'd pick back up that channel.
@@BrianPhillipsRC no Sadly they specifically say in the instructions to not try to connect it to the throttle, I tried anyways so it would free up the 6th spot on the receiver to use flapperons but the after burner doesn’t work correctly when connected through the throttle like they said on the instructions. So either I need to put a 8 channel receiver in it would maybe be the only solution then right? I need to have one with safe mode on it so Maybe a (AR8360T) for $130 that has safe mode so I still have that or possibly a (AR8020T) $90 that’s another 8 channel receiver that’s cheaper but im not sure if it has safe mode. Do you no the AR8020T has safe mode? Also any other thoughts on solutions would help thanks!
@@BrianPhillipsRCAlso I have a Apprentice STS that has a 8channel receiver that has safe but only uses 6 channels, would I be able to swap that one with the receiver in the 80mm falcon cause it only has a 6 channel receiver and safe mode and just put the 6 channel From the jet in the Apprentice STS cause the Apprentice only needs a 6 channel and they both have safe and the jet needs 8 channels. So it would be a even swap what do you think
I am curious how can you be sure that no vehicle is coming on the road and crash into plane when landing?
I have a spotter.
Brian big fan of the channel. I got an idea for a video. Teach us about batteries do's and don'ts what the C rating is, how to pick a battery for a plane. It would be very helpful for us beginner's. Thanks!

Yeah man I think if I get this jet I'm going to just go with the JP hobby brakes for the lil added weight on the backend and the advantage of the slowing it down after all three's are down . I have the Freewing 90 F-16 . So this jet would be most likely alil lighter . Luv your reviews on this jet plus the tips . When I get this jet I'm definitely going back an look at things you mentioned on the reviews Brian 👍
Thanks Thomas! This plane is amazing!
I like the brake idea! What size would this jet take though?
Hey Paul , this guy Brian would be able to answer that question , I don't have this jet yet , I do have the Freewing 90mm F-16 I would think it's the same size in the tire set-up size 55 tire 4mm axle in the JP hobby set-up , should be a perfect fit for this one . That's the size I'm going to go with when I order this jet . I have some on afew of my jet's and man the little additional weight will definitely help with alil up pitch angle of attack as the back Maine's retract down an out . It helps with maintaining the angle of attack other that alot of the sensitivity of flaring the elevator wondering if is going to come in at that hi alpha as most f16s are best to com in on . My F-26 Freewing 90 hits it on the dime Everytime without somuch elevator hassle of trying to keep that nose up . The JP HOBBY breaks cones down and the jet automatically gets into that angle of attack and most landings all you got to do is bring her on home and flare it if needed or necessary to conditions .👍 BRIAN IS THE MAN THO 🤣😂 PLUS HE'S GOT ALL THAT STREET ROAD HE CAN PLAY WITH 👌
@@thomassullivan3703 thanks man!! Much appreciated info!! I also am able to fly off a nice asphalt road and my jets roll forever so I thought the brakes would help reel them in some lol
@@thomassullivan3703 yeah Brian is a BA pilot. His videos have helped me so much and helped me understand and become a better pilot. THANKS BRIAN AND CAMERA CREW!!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Could you show how to set up flaperons on the eflite Su 30 bnf version?
One more for this request
Okay, the SU-30 could use flapperons, but the setup on that plane is more complex, especially since mine is dead and in about 17 pieces ;(... sorry to report this Nick (and Gary)
Brian, it's time to take your flap adding skills to the leading edge! The F16 is dependent on them. It would add more induced drag/lift and hence better high alfalfa and slower speed performance. Break out the tools, baby!
The flight control system of the full scale Viper similarly employs a seperate mode for landing with different control laws. Its kind of like when you adjust an elevator mix for flap positions but with different gain levels/expo for expected AOA. Slowing this EDF should be an on-going thread. I can guarantee you are not the only one that wants to see this model perform better in this area.
Yes, I want to do it, but I'm not sure I want to jeopardize one of my favorite planes.
I was just thinking about this the other day.
Wonder if I need to make the change after I upgrade to more channels on my Tx?
@@BrianPhillipsRC lol I suppose it would make things easier. The cool thing about the Viper is that the gear in the fuse so you could order a second set of test wings and prototype them. I think the difficulty might lie in doing it in a way that will retain the smooth look on the top while the LE flaps are retracted and in reinforcing the flap and hinge points. Maybe balsa?
Hey Brian, if someone mastered flying the Habu on 4S, could they go straight to this jet? If not, what would be a good jet after the Habu? SU-30 maybe?
No. If you do, you will regret it. The Habu is VERY easy to fly. I would say, if anything, move the the 64mm F-15 next, and then the 70mm F-16 (much easier to fly, but still harder than the habu), then when you're done with these, and flying them really, pretty well, THEN you might consider this F-16, but really, even then I'd suggest the A-10 before the F-16, and the Viper 70mm, and a few others first. This F-16 is one of my most challenging and most rewarding warbirds to date, but if you mess up, EVEN A LITTLE - it's gone.

Would love to see setup for Avios BushMule. I think my NX8 is short 1 channel. Need a nx10. 🥰🥰🥰
Side note to New Guys. If your getting into the hobby try to get a nx8 or nx10 minimal. I have a nx8 and with all the cool things that are coming out (safe, bay doors, reverse, lights flaps, landing gear)you suck up a lot of channels.
messed with it for hrs. and almost have it. Even using bind port for red marker light on top middle section and the other lights use a “y” harness off the elevator. But only can get the bay door to deploy with rudder, or throttle or flaps🤦♂️. So frustrating.
Thanks FORDEVR!!! Appreciate the kind words, and 100% agreed...get the MOST transmitter you can tolerate to afford and you'll forget how much you blew on it in like 2 planes ;) You'll never look back! Back before we worked with all these companies, I ended up with he DX18 (gen1), and NEVER second guessed the decision! NX8 has been so good...although my little scroll wheel has been skipping a lot now, and getting frustrating from time to time.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I went from a dx6e to a nx8 in 3 months. now a yr later I want the nx10. 😁 Buying a expensive radio is a lot of money but so is 3 radios. lol
So in the end, do you feel flaperons are much use with this bird?
yes, they are helpful in slowing the plane on shorter final - you CAN come in steeper and slow down, but then get out of the flapperons and into flare for landing as you're close.
Hey Brian.. This is the greatest video ever! BTW what happened to the to your Burner? Noticed that after you configured the Flaperons, the burners are not lighting?
I don't have a burner on this plane yet.
Well, get one on there!!
Strangely enough - when testing/learning the flaperon mod, I had to invert the channel 6 servo. did not see you do that on your NX8 (both Ailerons went up/down when rolling)
Also my flap down values have to be negative to get that result pulling the switch towards me. I updated to the latest firmware today, this is a new receiver to me.
Weird. Make sure all the surfaces go the correct direction. You might have just picked the "other servo" which would explain why yours was opposite of mine.
Brian all I fly is EDF's and I fly with other EDF jet flyers so I can with authority say, " you have great skill".
Thanks Gary! I try, and keep trying to improve. I'd like to see a few of these commenters come and land on my strip ;) I bet they'd be fixing their nose gear too - LOL ;)
Couldn't you setup reverse thrust on this to help slow down?
Yes, but the cheater holes make it work poorly, unfortunately. I have plans for TWO possible improvements. I will be sharing these as time allows ;)
Keeping up. Just so you know. I'm not a hater, I love you guys. I have broadband from xfinity, I know many people don't like xfinity but for me it's the cheapest, fastest and most reliable option. It is blindingly fast and SO much cheaper than Starlink so I won't be going there however I will be getting a Cybertruck as soon as Elon gets the Texas Gigafactory up and running. Mine is inside the 1st 500 thousand. I've been on the waiting list FOREVER! It will be a classic the moment I get it.
Again I am a fanboy. :-)
We were on the "list" for-ever too!!! That kid on my channel, Zane, HE GOT IT FIRST!!!! He's south of us, so after I called up Elon, he put us on the short list - LOL - JK!!!
I'd get a cheaper option in a heartbeat, if it existed - We would love to have faster and even more reliable, BUT it is amazing having some decent internet again. This was the ONLY thing missing from out lives here in the country, from being in town. It's incredible how much time is wasted from slow internet. It's hard to explain to someone who doesn't spend hours a day replying to comments on RUclips how frustrating it was having a 600-700MS ping...I could be done typing, and watch the letters come up on the screen for like 20-30 seconds after I stopped!!!! Not an exaggeration!
Hey Brian have you ever done any FPV ? I love how you push your planes and jets to the limits for us ! It would be awesome if you had a FPV set-up on that F-16 Falcon. Just asking. You are the best !!!!
I have FPV gear, but we can't share the footage, since I don't have a Part 107. You can thank our over-reaching, useless Federal government for that unnecessary, punitive, and pointless over-reach of power ;)

Can you setup any aircraft as a flaperon?
Technically, you CAN, but some are a lot harder than others. Some work a lot better than others.
Brother, I love your channel.
Thanks!!!
Hi, I know that these planes that I’m about to mention are nothing related to this video, but I kinda needed some advice.
Today I went flying, and all was well, or so I thought. I was getting ready to do my second flight on my e-flite a-10 64mm (pre-flight checks, etc.) and all was well. When I went up for my second flight on my Eflite a-10 64mm, everything was good for the first 2 minutes. Suddenly, I saw that the plane was uncontrollably pitching up without my input. At first I thought that maybe the flap got ruined so I brought down my throttle, but that didn’t fix the problem. I was giving almost full down elevator to counter act the up elevator. I had to call an emergency landing, and thankfully I practiced this scenario in the simulator so I had a very nice landing. When I taxi’d towards myself, I saw that only one of the elevators were working, which means that that was the 4th servo on the a-10 which had been fried on its own. This is probably a stupid question but do you think horizon hobby will give me a replacement servo if I give them the one that’s ruined? One of the guys at the airfield said that I should try that.
The next thing that I wanted to mention was that right after I flew my a-10, I wanted to take up my Cessna citation longitude up again for a second flight. Right as I took off, the plane lost power and plummeted towards the ground. Thankfully the ground was muddy and nothing was damaged. When I checked the plane, I saw that the JST plug on the plane was broken, which was also a problem from the factory. I have the same question for this one as well, which is do you think horizon hobby will be able to give me a replacement jst plug if I send the broken one back? Sorry if the questions sound stupid, I don’t know what horizon customer service will do.
Thanks.
(Also congrats on 100k)
Okay - two problems that appear to be factory issues... I guess you'll have to hit them up and see what they say. I have to call from time to time.... I just put in a new replacement brushless motor on my A-10 UMX. It happens to me....DOA or early failures, from time to time. My advice, ask in a way that's fair, and you'll probably get what you're after. It's annoying to have to ask, but the only alternative is to throw a fit, but that'll be better saved for a more significant issue, or a DOA servo that causes a catastrophic failure. Believe it or not, they will replace whole planes, pretty regularly, but I am not them, they are not me, and I can't speak for them, unfortunately.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks so much, I’ll call them tomorrow and see what they can do.
I took the F-16 Thunderbird to the field yesterday and was thinking, “I should add flaperons to this EDF, I always land like a Bat out of Wuhan.
Brian is a flaperon fan, I need to go look at one of his old videos.”
And of course the 2nd landing I bent the front gear steering pin at a 30 degree angle... Then I thought- “I bet Brian has bent a front gear pin, I bet he has a video on how to straighten the pin and not pay the $50 Horizon wants for the replacement front gear assembly.
It’s gonna be a busy night watching Brian Phillips videos...
LOL - Exactly - video you're looking for is the "UNBOX, BUILD, RADIO SETUP" - not this one...but it's good too!!!
I LOVE my repair. I can fix it in like 5 minutes now with the twist of a jam nut and a new M3 screw ;)
Dr Phillips, not for you, but for that unlike you and I who’s dads were TV Repairmen and we inherited an awesome set of tools, Active Powersports sells the front pin with the main pins for $5.75. (I ordered 3 sets. If the pin is made by the same manufacturer Eflite uses, I can see this happening again. And again.... And again.....)
What’s the difference between the dx,ix and nx transmitters?
DX, NX, IX are lines of Spektrum transmitters.
The DX18, for example, which is what I used prior to getting the NX6, then the NX8, which I'm currently using.
The IX12 and IX20 are higher level transmitters that I'd like to have, but don't.
Thank you, this helped.
Is this done with 6 channels or do you need full 8?
I used all 8 channels on this setup. There's also thrust reverse now too ;)
Flaperons will not slow the plane down if the c.g. is too far forward. More the c.g. aft and you'll see you don't need flaperons.
yes
Hmm all my fms and freewing models have clip Y harnesses...not sure eflite is any better on that department...
Yep, but either way, it wasn't a huge issue to overcome, in this situation. Some planes have molded ends between the wings and fuse which can make it real difficult.
Which fpv do you reccomend for this airplane?
I don't - Sorry! FPV's just not my thing... Not trying to take anything away from the joy you get from it, but I just don't really do it myself. I DO have some gear, but VERY rarely do we play with it.
Oh ok thanks tho
