  • I’ve been using the Patagonia tires on my jeep for over a week now, and I wanted to share my initial thoughts on this item.
I do some basic sand exercises, and then I take them to the rocks to do a little crawling.
I follow that up with our demolition derby that I recently entered.

My mother is from San Luis Obispo. to keep it short I went down there one summer to visit family I went to the beach and I saw a person who was stuck and I didn't realize that it was illegal for me to pull them out of the sand dunes.... The towing company that operates there with a giant Tonka trucks call the park ranger which in turn called the police and they threatened to fine me if I did it again..... I ended up pulling two other people out anyways 😂

I did about 60k miles on these tires. They're quiet (compared to other mud tires).
      Drive great on dry roads.
Balance great, did over 100mph without any vibrations (in Mexico ofc).
Grips good on gravel, dirt and mud.
      They're Okey in snow.
Not great on wet road, but they don't hydroplane.

If you're going make sure you hit the radio towers. Incredible view of So Utah from up there. For 4wd only and a rough road at that. • @zzcoool
      @zzcoool 5 лет назад +3

I have 37s on my Suburban and usually run 10psi in the sand and 15psi on the trail. Never lost a bead even on a 6,000# truck. I have a video of running 0psi just to see what happens and as long as you don't turn too hard they stay on.
That little Jeep can get away with 5psi with the Patagonias the way Matt drives. My only gripe is that they only last about 40k miles of 50% dirt and 50% pavement driving. The absolute best tire for your money in the southwest desert!

Bought my jeep about a month ago (91 yj) and it came with brand new 33x12.5 Patagonia tires on it. So far what I've gathered is that they do very good on sand, pretty good on rocks, very good in loose cinders, not very good in gravel, and for a mud tire very good on pavement. I have yet to try them in mud because I don't want the inside of my jeep to become brown. And I'm excited to try them in snow this winter. We'll see if they can do better than the ko2's on my truck that do insanely good in snow. Also they don't seem very durable compared too the ko2. Already have gotten some stuff loged in the tread blocks and they are already getting some mild chunking. Only time will tell with these tires

Plans for the next year or so are new rear axle locked and geard, gears on the front axle, better clearence fenders, lighting upgrades, new top and probably some other little stuff. Long term it will be getting a diesel, dana 44's, around a 6in stretch, 37's and a whole pile of other things. That's pretty long term tho as I want to get my squarebody pickup built first (going to be doing engine work, coilovers, new paint etc.) And I'm still in college so I don't have the biggest budget!

The Jeep will mostly be on road, but I want the aggressive tire for getting to remote fishing spots in the mountains here in NC and to have a little fun on the trails. Btw why do y'all seem to hate wranglers? I watch a Jeep recovery video and y'all were complaining about driving it. Could be because it was one of the newer JKs. plz inform everyone that when driving on sand or going up rocks need to reduce air pressure in all your tire so you can do both driving choices . I reduce my air by 1/2 or so ,. So if you drive normally with 40lbs in your tires on the roads reduce by 1/2 for sand which would come out to 20lbs each tire ... if you do rocks climbing put tires at 25lbs or 30lbs depending on the weight an size of your vehical..

I'm in the Southeast where we have the sticky red clay mud. That stuff can clog up tires with close lug spacing. Just wondering how these Patagonia's would handle it...

Matt, I am a long time fan of yours. I have watched the progress on the Corvair...that vehicle is not you! The yellow banana and you are an icon!
I suggest the Corvair go to your son to use! The remodeled Corvair
looks tiny and very cramped! The Corvair is not fit for you! Us fans
Want to see you continue your success with the trusty Jeep yellow bannana

Pattys have bad sidewalls. Spliting is a huge problem. The price has dropped for them as no one is buying them. We started to but found out about this problem.

Love the Demo Derby footage, brings back fond memories from back in the 70s & 80s when I worked at Sante Fe Speedway.

Great video, love the family involvement and you just being you. Keep it that way. Don't let the U-Tube snob's steal your thunder. Cheers to you and your crew.

They SUCK for rock-crawling compared to Wrangler MTRs. I can no longer clear obstacles that used to be easy, and they crab side to side, taking you off your desired line

Damn that's crazy. I dodnt know that about sand but it makes complete sense. Dryer the sand the softer it gets.

Tried finding a video to answer my question but no luck. What kind of locker are you running and just on back or back and front? Looking at buying a xj and looking for set ups. Yours seems to get around good. Thanks in advance.

I have had bad luck with these tires. Hard to balance, side walls puncture like hot butter! Traction on hard surfaces are decent! But wet traction is horrible! My 02 cent review.
