    i also just wanted to add for people that didnt know you could even get a macro lens for roughly $150 - $250 and they are really good. only problem is that they dont have zoom or stablization but they are still great for macro, portrait and even landscape.

      Hey there Hagazo, I bought the LowePro 450AW (the largest in their series) for its extra space. I thought it would be too big but as a 5'10 individual it was a perfect fit (maybe even a bit smaller than I thought). Highly recommend it

      Hagazo I use the same one as Peter, the protactic 450aw, seriously well made and really light weight. Climbed a mountain during a rain storm with it and ally gear was bone dry the entire time. It even comes with a built in weather sheild that you can pull out.

    I need a macro lens - I currently have a 18-55 and while I can manage some cool shots with it, there isn't quite enough there to really make the shots pop and show as much detail as I'd like.
    I hate insects but taking a super close up shot of a bee was my first "Woah" moment and I don't think I'll ever forget it.

      Avinash Murthy Well my recommendation is a 24-70 and a 70-200 that’s pretty much all you need and if you need a macro then bring a macro lens or a extension tube that’s pretty much all you need, unless you mysteriously don’t know your going to do wildlife photography you don’t need anymore and you can also get a telephoto converter if your that worried about needing everything

    Peter i am just 16. and i know it is going to be amazingly rare that you would read my comment. but anyways it is not a long time i have been to your channel, one day i went on searching on youtube about transitions in premiere pro. i saw many videos and was getting and idea how we can use premiere pro i am just a beginner. but finally your video came up of transitions in which you taught people about masking the video. i really got it now its easy for me. after that i saw your many video and realized you put 2 minute video every Tuesday and that is the video i just love it. well i don't have a camera and i don't know if i will get one or not. but one thing i know is that never give up and do something which you love. Even you quit for one year but came up blasting. and that's where you found yourself. you were very inspiring in the video. and that cap will be with you for the rest of your life and i know it. because you are not over yet their is a lot yet to come. people will love you for that. congratulations for your 1 million subscribers. if you read this fully i love you and good luck for future and THANK YOU.
    please reply if you can.

    Yep! A good macro lens is never a mistake. I made all of this seasons Team Photos for TSG Hoffenheim with the Canon 100mm L Macro...

  • @EsteeWhitePhotography
    @EsteeWhitePhotography 4 года назад +3

    Exactly the information I needed - confirmed by a reputable RUclipsr :) I have used macro lenses but I don't buy them. They are out of my $$ range and most importantly don't give me the extreme magnification that I like working with. So I prefer using extension tubes, reverse rings & microscope objectives... Recently I had an argument - well more like a discussion, with another photographer who claimed that everything shot with a macro lens is - macro photography... I tried to explain to him more about the true macro ratio 1:1 and how a macro lens ( unlike ext. tubes, reverse rings and microscope objectives ) doesn't get out of focus just because you are slightly further away. So with macro lenses you can shoot macro but you can also shoot close-ups and regular photos, that don't have the required magnification ratio to be considered true macro. Really good video, thank you for sharing :)

      17-50 2.8 is also a great lens to upgrade from the kit lens

    • @SvenVee
      @SvenVee 7 лет назад +4

      yeah for sure, and indeed the 17-50 is pretty neat so far as far as I can tell, only a bit more wobbly than the kit lens (which has pretty good vibration reduction built in, whereas the Sigma 17-50mm has optical stabilization in combo with a lot more weight so a bit more shakiness).
      And yeah bro, thanks! That sequence from the cooking from a couple vids back kinda proves all of his points haha + that he's just a great videographer of course :)

    I have the EF 100mm f/2.8 IS USM as well. I've done a lot of product photography with it for my sisters cosmetic line and obviously flowers, and even some portraits. Though the 100mm focal length can make portraiture difficult on an APS-C camera, which is like using a 160mm lens on a full frame. I have to stand so far back from the subject so it's not always practical for portraits. It is a handy lens though

    Probably a quite stupid question for you camera geeks out there, but what is the difference between a macro lens and a prime lens. I own a 50mm prime lens and I know its used for portraits. But my friend had a 50mm macro lens and i couldn't find a single difference.
    Someone wanna help me out and tell me?😄😃

    • @BCMSi
      @BCMSi 7 лет назад +3

      Did anyone ever answer? They aren't mutually exclusive.
      Prime means you are fixed at 50mm, as opposed to a Zoom lens which might have a range of 24-105mm or whatever, which would allow you to zoom in or out as you please. There are advantages to both.
      Macro means you can focus on things which are very close to the camera and pick up a lot of detail, so if you wanted some really good flower/insect/other type photos this would be an advantage. Both yours and your friends are 50mm Prime, his is additionally macro.
      That is a very shallow run down.

    I've been using the non-Is Canon Macro lens for about a year. It can capture some amazing images. Peter's estimation on price was about $100 more than what I've seen them go for--that is to say, you ought to be able to get an even better deal on one. Check it out!

    I like the shallow depth of a macro lens.. but i would prefer standing far from the subject while shooting macro by using extension tubes with a zoom lens. Almost the same results with more comfort.

    I started filming for a local high school's football (American) game's and last week a had the opportunity and privilege to use a 70-250 L series for the first time first time really using a good macro lens I was terrified at first because of how different it was from my usual 30mil sigma which is my Reg go to lens but let me freaking tell you! This thing was a power house! I got incredible shots i didn't think I'd ever be able to get! Learning it was a little weird and sketchy at first but it's such an amazing tool differently one of my next investments!!! Thanks for the pro tips my dude!

    I remember watching the first one of your videos while searching for tips for one of my photography projects at school and getting hooked. I think I saw all your videos within two days. I remember watching the video when you decided to quit your job and pursue RUclips and photography full time and getting so inspired. Last year has been full of ups and downs for me and I am currently unemployed. But your story has motivated me to not sit idle by, but to pursue bettering myself with the free time I have. I am starting a carpentry business and have done a couple of small pieces for friends. If you ever want a desk or coffee table let me know. I would love this camera to shoot videos and pictures of my work to post on scocial media. Finally put all those photography lessons from school to use. 😅

    Yet another GREAT video! And yes, also guilty. I have the L series 100mm Macro and I absolutely LOVE it. Use it all the time for interviews so I don't have to shove the camera right up in people's faces.

    I've had the non L Ef version for almost 2 yrs now! I am in love with it. HUGE interest in Macro! It's so cool to know that I have a piece of gear just like yours!! I have horribly shaky hands so I can't get too much with it handheld sadly. Saving up for the updated model! Thanks for showing that it can be used for video. Just branching into video so I am glad to know I can use my current gear!!

    Crazy storm last night in Kitchener!
    I've been shooting for a year. Been figuring out what I like shooting best and what my style is. I shoot close up the most it seems but don't even own a Macro yet lol. Ive bought a zoom, prime and ultra wide lens now I'm too broke to buy a Macro haha. IRONY at its best. I still get good close ups with my prime and zoom.

    Sick rain bro! I totally agree, I loved using the Canon 100mm L-series glass and it's one of the next few lenses I will buy. So versatile and such a good price for an L-series lens.

    Man I just returned my Panasonic 30mm macro lens to B&H because I wasn't using it as much as I initially thought I would. I wanted it for sneaker video but it didn't pan out. It is f/2.8 and I figured it would be a better investment if I bought a faster lens so I am getting the Leica 25mm f/1.4 to go along with my Panasonic GH5. Congrats on the 1mil subscribers man! Much success to you!!!! #KEEPGOING

    I shoot mostly with my Sony 90mm Macro lens. Unless I need that ultra wide, then I switch to 12-24 or 24-105. But, macro lenses are so damn sharp it was the best lens purchase.

    Love it! Thank you. I live shooting tiny things close up. It’s fascinating! I no longer kill even the smallest of bugs, after I took a close up of of a teeny spider. The eyes were so amazing, cute, alive, I’ve not looked at a bug the same since.

    New to your channel. I really like these 2 min Tuesdays. I seem to have A D D when it comes to a video longer than 10 mins. 😬 In addition to that I seemed to have had it when it came to even thinking about doing macro photography. However! There has been a break through and I recently purchased a macro lens. It is very fascinating and I also use it for regular photography like you mentioned in this vlog. So cool. Congrats on your one mill btw. That's pretty amazing.

    for my graphics design course i borrowed my brothers company camera and they only have a macro lense with their nikon d5500, and i was able to take every type of photo required + more. They work amazing (if you know how to use them)
