As someone that had to haul, no drag an SVT 8x10 or several 60lb + 4x10, SWR Goliath 4x10 for decades, nope ain't doin an 80lb amp again. Now I use 2 Markbass 2x10 cabs at 30lb apiece and will never look back.

Dave's eyebrows/bassface while he was describing the treble knob was priceless.
When the video speaks about how adjusting EQ controls or the FX loop blend can yield several different tones, etc, it would be good to demonstrate that.
Phil Jones amps and cabs are great!
A video idea, that I haven't seen anywhere on RUclips, is a shootout between all of the regular EMG and the EMG X bass humbuckers. It would be great to have a good comparison video between all of them (preferably both the DI tones and through an amp). You guys are probably the biggest advocates for EMG bass pickups on RUclips, so I figured if anyone would do a video like that it would be you guys.
I’ve been planning on doing that for some time. Hopefully soon!
@@TheBassChannel That would be awesome! Looking forward to it 😀 I already love the EMG X-series guitar pickups (they blow the Fishman Fluence Moderns out of the water and are a huge improvement over the original EMGs), but I'm still very unsure about their bass counterparts.
I have one. They are easy to roll in and out of most gigs and sound great. They can be a bit awkward lifting in to a car, but overall, I’m quite happy with it. Plenty of power.
I would love to try one of these but in most of these videos they all have this muddy mid range that jumps out over everything else.

I’ve been eyeing the single 4” model for practice in the home studio.
Buy a small combo with a 10in speaker. It's bass!
I own and practice with the Phil Jones X4 Nanobass. It sounds amazing for its intended purpose, which is practice and playing with acoustic instruments in a casual setting. It's sounds great at its intended volume, and covers the tone of a bass with accuracy. I play finger style (the most difficult tone to produce at volume,) and this amp can do the tone, so don't believe the naysayers.
I have it, and it is deceptively powerful. I’ve even used it as a bit of a small PA sub for the trivia nights my wife and I do at her bar.
I dont really understand why I would want this as opposed to a 112 and 210 cab. Its huge but Im super skeptical pf the small speaker thing
There's an hour long video on youtube where Phil Jones explains why- all to do with efficiency and driver excursion. Having owned a smaller version of this, the 4*5" I can say they are impressive and the small speaker thing kinda works. Anyway, I went back to a 115 and 112 modular Bergantino stack just more thump plus easier to carry. At 80lbs you'd be mad to buy this over a GR Bass or Bergantino.
I owned the suitcase combo & extension cab years ago, meaning 8x5". It sounded wonderful but for playing shows in a rock band I needed a lot more. A single Bill Fitzmaurice Jack12 does the job way better for me. Two are unbelievably loud. Really had to turn up the mids on the PJB to be heard, which I love, but still.
Peavey made some newish bass amps (MAX series) with tilted top speakers.. but I never got a chance to try one out. I’d like to see this more in 4x10 cabs.. so you would get good bass from bass coupling on the floor and you’d be able to hear the high frequencies as well..
The Rick at about 9 sounded so good...
ampeg svt 7 pro and my 4x10 neo cab on wheels at 4 ohms. that handles the svt 7 pro. and a boss eq 200. switching mids for each bass and eq.
Yea man I have a difficult time parting from my SVT4 pro it’s heavy but I know it will deliver either with one of my 8x10 cabs or my 4x10 which is what I take out, but something nice and light that I know will do what I need would be very nice
@@bassimprovjams3772 not heavy at all. it has detachable casters. just roll it were you want. more pounding remove the caster ,set it on the floor its not a vented cab. lot of mids clear and distinct.
But how does it handle an open low B from a 5 string at higher volume
I run a Ampeg RB210 with an Markbass 1x12 for gigs. Bring out the 1x12 as needed. Also run to FOH via my Two Notes Le Bass preamp and I’m good to go.
Yup, for the cost Markbass. I've never understood the whole Phil Jones thing.

Something I don't understand about this amp in particular: TWELVE speakers and you still have to add another cab to get the full power. Granted 750 watts is probably more than enough for me but I'd much rather have 950w with the option to half the power.
Or better yet get a 2x10 combo and actually be able to accurately reproduce bass frequencies. 5 in speakers you can not. Regardless of power.

Not sure I'm a fan of how these sound, like others have said the mids just sound not great.. also it's such a weird pitch with portability, I'm running a Darkglass Microtubes X 900 and Ampeg Venture 2x12 neo cab and that entire rig weighs in at 50lbs and can drown out an entire mid size venue at under half volume while having insane midrange definition. Probably just not for me!
Can’t really see a point to it over stacking a bunch of little Phil jones cabs? If you’re gonna get a 40kg cab just get a 4x10 or 2x 2x10’s or … yeah you get the idea. Standard cab formats exist for a reason and you don’t have to suffer the restrictions of 5” drivers? Their 2x5” cabs offer something back in the trade off, this just doesn’t make sense to me, especially for the price of Phil Jones stuff.

That's the problem with all of their vids... great breakdown of the item, and review, but the volume jump from demonstration to voice is absurd

Sorry, but 5in speakers do not hit the bass notes with clarity. The idea is good, but it iwnt practical with so many other amps out there using Neo magnets in their speakers. Acpustic has a 2x10 cab with neo magnets. Just run a micro head to it. Smallermore portable.

I don't know anything about 5" speakers, but I listened to this twice with wireless earbuds and once on a Bose speaker, and each time this amp sounded... not exactly muddy, but lacking clarity for me.
@@jonathanustin6295exactly my friend. That's because such a small speaker can not accurately reproduce the bass frequencies. Especially at volume levels such as expected like at a gig.
Better off getting a 1x12 or 2x10 combo. Fender has a nice 2x10 combo with lots of low end and punch at a fraction of the cost.
If people are so concerned with weight don't play bass. Buy a flute.
Using an earbud with a 1/4 or 1/8 inch speaker to judge a 5” speaker doesnt work. My PJ sounds great ‘in the room’ with standard tuning and I’ve heard them do justice to lower tuned instruments.
