Great video, Simon. Just to point out - you can screw the crown back in as soon as the hands start to 'quickly' rotate. You can then pop the watch back on your wrist immediately and forget about it while the hands spin away!
I'm looking forward to getting this watch, which I ordered a few days ago. I intend to use the Clockwave app on my iPhone to sync the watch. It's a mystery why Citizen chose to implement this method, considering they have watches that make it far easier to set the time. I suspect it has a lot to do with the fact that it's a Japanese Domestic Market model, where - unless you're traveling - there's only one time zone.
Great tip! Just got mine and it hits all the marks perfectly. Another video claimed there is a mode to calibrate the hands if they are off. Hope your love affair with this watch continues. :)
I agree Simon, very complicated. On my Oceanus, there are 21 city codes around the dial. You pull the crown one click and move the second hand to the desired time zone. The hands will adjust accordingly and can move in either direction depending on which is quicker. When you're done and you depress the crown. The seconds hand will jump to the correct position to avoid time loss. Also, not only does it hit on all of the dial markers, if the watch takes a jolt and the second hand starts missing, You can re calibrate the hands to correct it. So it's OCD proof as well 🤣🤣 Sorry, I don't mean to harp on about the Casio. It has it's shortcomings as all watches do. They're like relationships. You have to decide if you can tolerate certain quirks or if they are a dealbreaker
Do you have the model number handy? I'd consider an Oceanus if it had the day and date even if it's digital and it had a screw down crown....not that I'm supposed to be buying any more watches!
@@simonthewatchguy6073 Mines the OCW-S100 but it only has date, no day and no screw down it's only 10 bar WR. It's worth a look though plus there are several models to choose from.
@@simonthewatchguy6073 - I had the blue OCW-T3000. It has day+date and is absolutely gorgeous, but was a little to blingy for my needs. It also displays two time zones at once which you might like. And it has bluetooth which you might like. I've considered trying another colorway that is less shiny especially the dial. Wish they carried the Oceanus in the stores in the US so it could be seen in person before purchasing. I like the PMD56 because it is less shiny in bright sunlight, but overall the Oceanus has a lot of advantages ...Bluetooth, Multiband 6, two time zones, cronometer, dual sided AR, better lume, Grand Sieko like finishing etc. The only reason I kept the PMD56 is because it is less reflective
Hi Simon - thank you for your effort to show how to adjust this watch outside Japan. I checked all your educational videos. So if I understand the matter correctly, I sync the watch with the Japanese sync signal and after this is done, I adjust the timezone I live in by hand. Correct? Thank you for your time & support.
A great video tutorial. I'm wondering how to set the month and year, so that the clock makes the jumps corresponding to leap years. Is this possible? It would be great to have that tutorial too. Thank you very much for your work!!
This was a helpful video! I have another concern though. Do you know how to turn off the radiowave signal? I manually changed the watch to my local time zone and it was fine. Recently I changed address (same country), but I am now receiving signal from Japan in my new place, so my watch automatically switches back to japanese time. I dont know how to fix this,
Do I have to set the time zone before using the jjy emulator? I have tried so many times and the watch is saying it is receiving the HIGH level of frequency, but it doesn't ever set. It always says NO after I try to set using an jjy app (and I've got and used them all both on android and IOS) - Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Nice watch! Shame the atomic clock function works only for Japan. The time zone changing is a bit clunky...imagine traveling to the US west coast from the UK...it'd be quicker to manually set the time with a 'normal watch' by moving the crown. Defeats the purpose who use this outside Japan.
Good info, thanks. Now I’ve got how to change the hour to my home, US in my case. What about the date? Because Japan I believe is one day ahead of us. How to change the Japan date to my date? Thank you very much
Indulge my thought experiment here. So the PMD56 is perpetual calendar until 28 Feb 2100, due to that year not being a leap year. So wondering how my g-grandkids could still use the watch, (all other eventualities aside; stolen, mechanism failure, world war, asteroid impact, super volcano, etc) it seems to me that using the JYY emulator on the RaspberryPi with the Year set to 2004 would work. Specifically, synchronise the watch on the morning of Monday 1st March 2100 to Monday 1st March 2004 and away you go for another 96 years adjusting for leap years etc. Bingo, problem solved. 😉😁
They didn’t, but they did replace the entire movement. But unfortunately the second hand is still not hitting some markers. So I will get another PMD56 And see if that is better. If not then I’ll probably stick to my G Shock.
Really helpful video! Thank you! I also have these model and had issues with the second hand not hitting the indicators exactly. I found that by synching once, this issue was overcome. May have been fluke but could be worth a try on your watch?
Nice video, thanks for the tip. I guess I got lucky because my second-hand hits all of the markers. The movement accuracy is also pretty impressive and seems to be about +/- 5 seconds a month. Even though I have the proper emulator app for the Japanese atomic clock, I've never been able to sync the watch with the emulator. I have other atomic watches and they all work fine with the emulator. Over all I'm very pleased, although the lume could be a bit better.
@@joelmiller3174 - I've got mine to work with both the JJYEmulator and Clock Wave apps. Try placing your watch on the top of the phone where the speaker is. Also, consider trying to move the watch to a different location in your home, it could be an echo issue or something. I just rest my watch on it's side right on top of the top speaker

I'll just set the watch manually from now on.

Thanks for the video - I wanted to ask: Seems to be several versions of this watch (Some of which cost less and the metal appear s lighter) Can you think of any reason your version is more expensive? (They all are labelled as having super-titanium too so I am confused)
The most expensive one I found is the fully black coated Citizen AT6085-50E (The Tomb Stone). In my understanding, the coating is the reason for the price differences, since the fully brushed blue dial one is the least expensive.
Going forward is explained in the video. Just move the crown in the opposite direction. I have done a different video explaining how to change day/date.
Hi Simon, enjoyed your videos very much. Quick question, I'm tossing up between the Casio Oceanus S100 and the Citizen PMD56 as they both have everything I'm looking for, BUT, does the Citizen allow for 30 min adjustments for the world time. You discuss adjusting the world time correcting the offset in 1 hour increments, however I live in one of the 30 min offset time zones (actually have lived in 3 different ones over the past 30 years). Of course you could set the watches 'hometime' to the 30 min offset time and the watch would happily carry on, but changing it to a timezone that is 'on-the-hour', would require a full sync and not just an 'on watch' adjustment. Also, you were annoyed the second hand was a little off (this really bugs me too!!!), doesn't the Citizen have an autoalignment function to ensure this doesn't happen? Cheers
I think it’s possible to advance the minute hand manually but it’s not a fun enjoyable process. If you get the PMD then I’d strongly advise you to use the “clock wave” app which will sync the watch to whatever time is on your phone, or the jjy simulator app if you use android.
Also citizens auto alignment let’s you line up the DAY and DATE wheel, not the second hand. I was also thinking that the second hand could be managed manually but it turns out that it can’t. If it’s misaligned from the factory it’ll stay like that.
hello, great video. I live in South Australia, we are, like India, 30 minutes off the global timezone grid. Do you know if using this method you presented I can somehow switch from mine to a full hour timezone (i.e. in +/- x hours + 30 min increment) ?
I think this method only lets you set the hour hand. If you have an iPhone you should try “clock wave” which will send the correct time of whatever time zone you’re in to the watch
It's pretty ridiculous isn't it, really. How hard would it have been for Citizen to make each second increment 30mins so the watch could effectively +/- 14.5 hours and pretty much capture every time zone. I see that Citizen 'worldtime' watches often completely miss the +5.5 zone which excludes India/Sri Lanka and 20% of the global population. Not to mention +4.5 for Iran, +6.5 for Myanmar and of course Sth Aust. I even found a Casio watch that had the +8:45 Eucla timezone included, imagine that, for probably less than a hundred people at any one time.
Sorry I no longer have the watch. I think you pull the crown out once, or twice, and then turn the crown and it'll turn the day wheel. Easiest thing to do is just to sync it to a phone app - then it'll set the correct time/day/date.
I still fancy this watch very much and your videos really helped me with it. Thank you Simon, after all these years!
Thank you Simon! You just saved me a ton of research. There was no instruction manual that came along with this watch! ;-(
