I have a Citizen Promaster Eco Drive. It is over 20 years old and still keeps fabulous time. The trick is to always keep the watch in the light, so it keeps a consistent charge.
I love Eco-Drive. I own three Citizens, one is the "Chandler" 37mm field watch, which is quite a dated model. Thus, the dial is transparent and in strong lighting one can see the solar cell underneath. Nice to see the improvements there. My other ones are a JDM dress watch which is Eco-Drive but under 5mm thick and a Promaster NY0040 in quartz from the early 2000s, which has been unfortunately discontinued for quite some time, as I think it is superior to its automatic brother. Another great Titanium Eco Drive Citizen and a perfect upgrade for my "Chandler" is the PMD-56 model range. 39mm titanium field watch, sapphire crystal, awesome lume and quick adjust clasp!
In particular, the PMD56-2951 and 2952 Promaster Land field watches. These are Japan only models but readily available online from dealers. They have radio controlled time setting but only on Japanese frequencies. The size is basically 37mm.
The fujitsubo was actually underwater for a few YEARS, not months! Late 70s into I believe 83' when it was finally recovered off the aussie coast. Citizen LOVES that story because it really shows how exceptional their product is despite the lower price tags
I believe Citizen's EcoDrive is superior technology and I prefer it to mechanical movements. Show me a Citizen Ti diver with EcoDrive please. Whoops! Now I see them. Excellent.
Really nice new models by Citizen. I had an Eco-Drive Blue Angels AT as my only watch for several years and still use it whenever I need something very tough and need exact timekeeping (mostly air travel). I now have dozens of watches and I'll say that Islander/Phoibos Eagle Ray collab is one of my favorites. I look forward to seeing the new collab!
Well done Marc, love all this positive stuff about Citizen. Two of mine are Ti. A GMT Eco drive Diver on bracelet and, a Super Tough ( Ray Mears) just great watches .
Fellow Seiko fanboy (and former Citizen fanboy) here. Not sure why Citizen took so long to take on Seiko in the non-quartz arena, but here they are: the diver is *quite* impressive, although the absolute scratch-resistance of their Super Titanium seems somewhat in dispute on yon Internets - better than Seiko's untreated Ti, certainly, but possibly not as impervious to random banging against the inevitable doorknobs and other hard objects remains to be seen. The *most* impressive tech from them lies within their Brycen line: a solar rehaut? THAT"S a big deal, and puts them ahead of Seiko and others in the rechargeable realm. As far as the Skyhawk? Looks cool from here, but for the better part of a grand to snag one? I think your business Spidey-sense is spot-on for this model. Great overview video!
Citizen truly is under appreciated. Thanks for showing us these watches. Jody also talked about the Fujitsubo also as a possible one watch collection. Two brilliant horological experts can’t be wrong! Thanks!
Can't go wrong with Citizen, always spot on quality control and great prices, got myself a Pro Master Titanium Eco-Drive in blue on blue matching rubber strap 👍
Such a great video Marc! I've been wearing titanium watches from Citizen since the 90's. All Eco-Drives and then 2 automatics I picked up this year. I still have them all and wear them often. And they all still work flawlessly, never been serviced aside from one capacitor replacement in the 1997 Solar-Tech. Such a great watch brand and glad to see them using more sapphire too.
I left the 6R movements behind. Next Seiko will be the SLA033 Capitan Willard or the Seiko SLA043 but if I was going between Seiko and Citizen in the more affordable end. It be Citizen
I own an Eco-Drive which I purchased 27 years ago in 1997. The loom is fair and it still keeps good time but the rechargeable cell can only hold power for a week or two before the second hand starts it's 2 second sweep. It also has two small lcd screens and a non-ratcheted bidirectional bezel. Bought it as a gift to myself for my birthday which was also the day I quit smoking and I still don't smoke. I also own a full gold Eco-drive which my oldest son gifted me two years ago.
I really like that first Citizen. Also the Skyhawk one is pretty slick. Unfortunately I just bought the Citizen Forza in titanium, integrated bracelet, salmon dial coming from the Netherlands. For whatever reason that dial is only in limited parts of Europe but I did check LIW for it first. Hi Mark, great video! Keep up the great work. Q: how scratch-resistant is the Citizen titanium braclet/case? Certainly not resistant than sapphire crystal, right? Thank you for explaining the different levels of titanium.
Not me. Especially when Citizen does something as nuts as develop a ring solar collector, sapphire crystal, under $500. Seiko would charge twice as much and still leave something out.

Citizen has been really releasing some great watches. I really enjoy my Promaster Altichron (Compass/Altimeter) and my Seiko Prospex PADI Special Edition Solar Analog-Digital Diver Chronograph SNJ035. Quality and wearability are both very well.
I want to try a titanium diver. Ideally a sub 40 dial, and thin. with cool dial and bezel variations. Does a model like it exist? The orange Brycen looks nice but I prefer a smaller watch and a cooler bezel.

I have 3 Citizens & love them. I hear nothing but good things from people who own them but ADs I guess don't make $$ off them. Even Teddy doesn't give them a fair shake. I want that diver w/ black rubber strap.
Seiko Astron, non GPS, is the sweet spot for me. Titanium, solar, sapphire and radio sync. It’s synced everywhere I’ve been in the US even though they are JDM models. No half links or micro adjustment on the clasp are the only downsides. I’ve been able to get a perfect fit but this won’t be the case for most. The SBXY031 has become the watch I wear almost every day.
I am a Quartz guy, much to the disgust of many, specifically Solar. An Astron is my grail watch, which I hope to get next year! I like about 4 of their models. Although, I am leaning towards the SSJ007.
The watch found on the beach was on a velcro strap that was popular with surfers at the time. Maybe in this age almost bereft of originality we could bring back a another retro classic.
Steel has always been suboptimal for large watches like divers due to its weight. Titanium offers a significant advantage in this regard, being much lighter. Even plastic-cased G-Shocks provide superior comfort because of their reduced weight. As for Citizen, their Eco Drive movements are outstanding! I do hope they keep pushing the tech forward. I'm even curious to see if they do anything interesting with the semi-abandoned CZ range.
Meh, Seiko has very cool cases which Citizen doesn't really. No Turtle, no Arnie, no Samurai, just fairly generic looking cases. These seem like a good deal, but not very comparable to Seiko on style.

I typically purchase pre-owned. Lots of deals to be had and I like the styling of most of their older models. Having said that, it's interesting to see that used/resale prices for titanium versions, of even their least popular models, are generally double $$. Example: C650-Q02128 (Skyhawk; stainless). Typical resale is $80-$150. Last one I purchased was $75. The same watch in titanium however, C651-Q02497 (Skyhawk, titanium), typically sells for $150-$300, depending on condition and whether it comes with box/papers. The aesthetic between the two is virtually the same. They look the same. Baffling how construction materials trumps popularity in these cases. It's the same model watch no one wants to pay more than $80 for, yet they're worth twice that in titanium. No idea.
Funny I am waiting for FedEx to deliver my Fujitsubo Citizen diver. lol there is the truck right now. Interesting that Citizen can get enough light from just the chapter ring.
I have the barnacle, the watch itself is fantastic, but the bracelet really leaves a lot to be desired. I wear it on a strap or with a zuludiver octopod, and it's great! If citizen can up their bracelet game, i'd be a total convert.
I'm really interested in how that chapter ring solar panel works. Seems like it's designed to use "splash-damage" from the sun hitting the dial and being reflected a bit?
I love this citizen model fujitsubo .. when I went to buy it at the Italian shop.. they told me it was only available online.. but I always have to try watches that have this price first.. and I gave up.. I didn't I understood why the official Citizen retailer store in Italy doesn't have this watch in the window....... 😱😱
I recently bought a 44mm 200m Fugu "limited edition" diver which is absolutely stunning but slightly too big for me; so I'm gonna sell it and put some cash towards the purchase of the Blue 41mm Fujitsubo Titanium featured in this video - though not the limited edition, the standard edition can be bought new for approx 550€ here in Europe, I think it represents better value for money. I also like the Seiko Samurai 43.8mm in any colour pattern but again, too big for my wrist.
I didn’t set out to be a Citizen fanboy, but I’ve become one. My three inexpensive Eco Drives (two Garrisons and a Promaster) are BY FAR my most accurate watches, beating out my Solar Prospex which gain at about a second every other day, vs 1 a week for my Citizens.
With Seiko going nuts with their pricing, Citizen is bringing the right models at the right time and with the right price points. Loving the Citizen lately.
I have one of the "Skyhawk type" watches (JY8084-09H) and it's the biggest POS I've ever bought from Citizen. Since the day I bought it the thing can't seem to get enough light. I feel like I'd have to store it in the heart of the sun to keep it running reliably. First Eco-Drive I've had that problem with and also the first one I've ever sent back to them. No satisfaction however and now it sits in my window sill all day, every day.
Citizen has been knocking it out of the park recently...

No idea.
30 year collector, from Patek to Timex... Citizen is by far the best value out there.
Very very nice watch. IT LINES UP!
Very nice watches. Love SCUBA tank case and Gold Skyhawk case. Anytime i see anything that gold I think of the NES Legend of Zelda cartridge.
Marc! Bring back that salmon dial Islander!!!!
Funny I am waiting for FedEx to deliver my Fujitsubo Citizen diver. lol there is the truck right now. Interesting that Citizen can get enough light from just the chapter ring.
Nice. Hope you enjoy it
I have the barnacle, the watch itself is fantastic, but the bracelet really leaves a lot to be desired.
Doesn't need unimpeded rays direct from the sun. Just 'light' is enough. Same same G-Shock solar.
@@formica. Much appreciated!
ha ha, nice introduction of the Skydiver :)
Citizen is calling my for the first time in a while!
They're lovely.
That Forza dial gives grand seiko a big run. I love mine
I agree, Seiko needs to refocus on QC reduce the number of limited editions, it seems they only interested in volume and margins only
With Seiko going nuts with their pricing, Citizen is bringing the right models at the right time and with the right price points. Loving the Citizen lately.
Man I really like that diver .... I just can't justify it whatsoever!
I really think titanium will be the future for tool watches. If that Brycen were a bit smaller I'd be placing an order.
Bought the Citizen Promaster fugu it’s more accurate than my two Rolex models.
When I become Ruler, I will outlaw the Mercedes hand. Even you, Rolex (go back to Mil-Sub swords)
Cathedral hands > All
LOL
yuo have my vote
When I become Imperator, I will make Mercedes hands compulsory 😊
Amen
I have the citizen nb6021-17e in my collection and to be honest for the money it's great watch 😁🔥👍
