At least, in my experience, owning a few of each, Citizens quality control and general finish seems to blow Seikos out of the water. I love both brands but I think, at least, at the moment Citizen make a better watch pound for pound !!
Unfortunately, I own 2 CITIZEN with QC issues. A CA0700-86L chronograph with 4 index missaligned from 3h to 6h. And a CA7040-85E chronograph with numerals on the flange missaligned. It also happened to CITIZEN. Odly, all my SEIKO are perfetly aligned !?
I own 2 Citizens, both eco drives. Purchased one on AMAZON 11 yrs ago (OG Nighthawk) and the solar cell is still working flawlessly. Abused it a few times by keeping it tucked away in a drawer for months/years at a time, losing all power & recharged it in Sunlight & still keeps ticking & is still very accurate. I highly recommend an eco drive watch!
@@troybingham6426No. I did that with a Seiko solar watch and it took weeks in the sun before it started working again. I had almost given up on it. Now they all sit near a window. :-)
I have 2x Titanium Divers and a pro diver automatic they are absolutely fantastic. I took off one of the titanium ones and threw it against the wall (in anger stupidly) it just stuck in the wall not a thing wrong with it lol.
@@KaiserSoze679 Until today, I owned 4 watches. 2 expensive dress watches (both fairly recent gifts), 1pretty old daily junk watch ("GUESS" brand, I think) that's been sturdy enough to get me through more than a decade, and one cheap Madison watch that I wear on canoe trips. But, today I received watch #5: a Citizen eco drive - another gift from the same person who gifted me those two expensive dress watches. Now There! is one heck of a watch guy. My point: I'm not a watch person either, yet, like @mixflip here I am. :D
I've had my Citizen Titanium Solar Tech Chronograph Ref: GN-4W-UL for about 23 years and has never let me down. awesome watch, bought on honeymoon in Antiqua. Still going strong even after the divorce.. ;-)
The longer I own Citizen watches, the more I love them. Probably became my favourite big brand in the last few years. Nothing beats my favourite BN0150, not even automatic divers at double the price. 💪
Yep, Agree 100% Super high quality, even on the under $200 models.

The best CITIZEN is the AQUALAND version BETWEEN 1985 and 1999 with a 6-bolt rear cover "CALIBER" series: C020, C021, C022, C023, C026, C027, C028 & C029
Good morning, as a diver with multiple dive watches (over the years), a dive watch i bought in the 90s was the NY0040-09EE Promaster. It took everything......and more than it's fair share of punishment. It was commissioned in the 90s by the Italian special forces and is a 500 m tested diver, but still just conforms to the ISO 200m regs. This exact model can still be acquired today brand new, but they have discontinued it, as it's quite dated. I just bought another one because I love them. Sits right along side my SKX009, holding hands, talking about the good old days when they were foes.
i have a gold tone wr100 serial 960706 number. i had this piece 20 years now bought used from a friend.... it has been super accurate, and has never stopped. Amazing it inspired me to buy three other citizen watches over the years. thxTT!!!!!!
Citizen has the best quartz movement in the world the cal. 0100 +/- 1 sec per year Easily higher stuff than everything we know including any high horology It also is made with duratec alpha which is as hard as ceramic or sapphire but stronger
I have an early 2000s Citizen Aqualand that is still kicking today. Actually wore it on my wedding day because it was a gift from my grandma who had passed away before my wedding. Holds a special meaning and is also built like a tank.
I own a Citizen Calibre 8700 Eco-Drive with perpetual calendar that my then-girlfriend, now-wife bought for me when we first started dating 12 years ago. Damn thing is still ticking away and I've never had to set the date on that thing once. Citizen does make good, reliable watches. Hoping to snag one of their JDM models someday
They're durable. I put one out on a concrete balcony in the sun to charge and the concrete got way hotter than I would have thought. The watch got fried like an egg. Too hot to touch the casing. Somehow its still working and working accurately. Now I use an LED watch charger instead.
I'm loving the Citizen on my wrist: The Promaster CB0171-97E. 200m of WR, titanium case and band with hardening for scratch resistance, radio sync that works with all the big atomic clocks around the world, and it's an Eco-Drive. I never have to worry about it. It's always accurate, always charged, and always on my wrist. It made me love quartz again.
I currently have 5 Citizens in my collection (4 of them are Eco-drives, one is a 1976 chronograph), and I love all of them. My two favorites are my AT4004-52E PCAT, and my AW0061-01W limited edition titanium Spiderman.
Got my first citizen watch in 2020, been buying em ever since. It gives you that sophisticated look without coming deep out of pocket. The performance and durability on those watches are amazing for the price range.
I own nothing but Citizen watches, they are great watches and not over rated like some pricier brands. They are great watches. Thanks for showing love.
Nice video! I have a Citizen chronomaster the model at 3:31. The movement is so much better than GS quartz. 1) It´s more accurate (+/-5 sec a year) Instead of 10 sec a year. 2) The movement got a perpetual calender 3) Quick set hour hand 4) Eco drive is so much better than normal quartz, no headache for changing battery. The finishing i also on par with GS. Tried on a OP 41 at the AD and the OP looked very simple in the finishing in comparision. Also the dial is made of japanese washi paper!
My opinion is: A Citizen watch will out-perform and out-last any Seiko automatic watch, or even a Seiko quartz. For the price, their durability and performance will be extremely hard to duplicate. Essentially, they are of Longines quality at a fraction of the price.
Just look at their Barnacle! It was a Citizen watch found submerged in the ocean off Australia. It had been submerged for a few years and had barnacles on it, yet it was still running-'nuff said...
I currently own three Citizen Eco-drive watches. My first one I received as a Christmas gift back in 2006. So,17 years later it's STILL going on strong. That's the only watch that I have ever owned that I can say that about.
Jory, great vid! My most vintage watch is a first generation titanium eco-drive gifted to my in 1998 and I have worn it since then and it still runs perfectly well! I have a special place for CITIZEN and I definitely think they are under-rated or overlooked. So say it enough! lol I named my ROBERT! 😝
Their Satellite Waves are awesome. You never set it. Put in light and it sets itself. And some are under $500. My Citizen is an Eco Drive Altichron. Most accurate watch I own. They have a new mechanical line that is nice.
Citizen hold the title having the most accurate watch in world, there quality control is first class and Eco Drive owns the market for Solar style watches..Citizen sell more watches than anyone.
Citizen caught my eye late in my watch enthusiast career, mostly driven by Seikos price hikes that I personally find overpriced. Many more budget Citizen watches come with sapphire crystal, many more then Seiko. My first foray into the brand was the monocoque titanium Promaster tough, what a watch!
They suffer from “mall watch” design. The quality of the product is high, no question. They are very robust, reliable pieces. But to look at them? Meh.
@@desireless4092 the cases look like a mix of Rolex Explorer and AP Royal Oak minus the screws on the bezel. A very generic look IMO but it could be helped with better use of color and dial texture (e.g., guilloche, clos de Paris, Sunray, or perhaps something like Seiko has been doing with some of their Prospex lines). I would like to see a solid silver dial option and maybe some heatblued steel elements like the handsets, numerals, and indices. They should try doing a small seconds piece with a power reserve or a chronograph but keep the dial as clean as possible without a big ugly bezel.
Also, three hand central seconds with regular small date at 3 movements are very boring…need to see some variety beyond just conventional three hand central seconds and tricompax, cam operated chronographs. How about a Dual Time zones piece? Or a monopusher chrono? Or a flyback chrono? I mentioned small seconds before, how about a regulator? They have abundant resources but stick to middle of the road designs. The worst fault of the Series 8 I can see is that they don’t even match the date wheel color to the dial on several models. I can understand that business decision with a $600 TIssot, but a $6000 watch should have a color matched date wheel. A $6k black dial watch should have a black date wheel with contrasting numerals that complement the color ways of the rest of the piece. This is design 101 stuff.
In my opinion Citizen is definitely one of the Japanese Giants...along with Casio, Orient and Seiko! I actually have three models that I love very much. For sentimental reasons the 6850-G81171 (don't you just love how it rolls of the tongue) this was my first ever multi-function metal watch I bought for myself albeit in silver with a dark blue dial but I can't find the model number anywhere and the watch is on the other side of the world right now, the Promaster Avion BX1010-02E an Eco-drive World Time type A flieger which I bought when I started collecting to complete my Japanese Quartet ( along with the SKX 009 and the Casio G-shock GX-56BB-1DR and the Orient Defender II RA-AK0403N) finally there is still the Promaster Marine NY0040-09EE which I'm dying to add to my collection but is pretty hard to find here in Indonesia and import tax is crazy high...
I bought a beautiful Citizen chronograph at Costco and I get questions and compliments on it all the time. I love that watch. It's Eco-Drive and functions perfectly.
Citizen typically has higher quality control and finishing in their respective price ranges than most other brands out there, but this realization was years after I purchased my diver. I love my BN0156-56E, great on the bracelet.
surprised you didn't mention the great radio-controlled and GPS-controlled options from Citizen. once you try a light-powered Citizen that sets itself and is insanely accurate in a style you like, you won't want anything else.
Exactly my opinion. I love their Radio Controlled models, but the Satellite Wave (F150) with its 3-10 seconds time to sync is just too good. It has spoiled me and raised the bar for all the other watches out there. I got 2 F150 Satellite Wave movement watches and a Radio Controlled Navihawk in my collection. Amazing accuracy combined with the Evo Drive technology... 0 hassle and maintenance watches. Amazing value!
These are just expensive gimmicks and the radio signal and GPS watches always let me down because they don't work well indoors. The standard Citizen quartz ECO-DRIVE is already very accurate and good enough.
@@tancreddehauteville764 no they don't inside a building, they also mention that when setting the watch. My watch sits by the window at night, gets a signal every time.
The skyhawk Blue Angels is my current favorite Citizen offering. It is incredibly versatile, 200M WR, and looks great. Did I mention GMT, countdown timers, alarms, chronographs and world time function?
The Seiko SKX007 was my first mechanical watch, and I love it to bits. Over the years, I’ve owned 3, modded a couple, etc. My wife got me a Citizen NY0040 automatic with the sunburst blue dial (the less special Fugu basically.) I must say, I am shocked that it is better than the SKX in nearly every conceivable way. Applied indices, the day and date align properly (huge annoyance for me with Seiko,) hacking and hand winding, running +5 per day, bezel action is perfect, and most importantly, CHAPTER RING AND BEZEL ARE ALIGNED! Still love Seiko, but for a little over $200 bucks, I couldn’t be happier.
I've owned tons of watches in my 30 odd years of appreciating nice time pieces. I've never owned anything really expensive, other than a £700 Maurice Lacroix. I've had a few Seikos, Rotary, Casio, Tissot etc... I can say with all honesty, that my current Eco-Drive sports watch is by far my favourite thus far. I adore it.
Have loved citizen watches since my 1990 wingman, went through a war with it, and wore it until it finally died in about 2007. Won’t ever throw it away though. Currently have an ny2300, ny0040, and a chrono titanium eco drive. Got another ny0040 in blue on the way, can’t beat the bang for the buck
I appreciate the Citizen love. I've been a Citizen buyer for years. A Citizen Pro-Master is one of the best watches you can get for the money. Thanks for the video. ....You should have said something about their Pro-Master line.
Got my private pilot's license and bought myself a Eco Drive A/T Skyhawk at the time. I've had it 3 years now as my daily wearing watch. Just added a PCAT with the E 660 movement. Still Eco Drive , perpetual calendar and Atomic Time. Citizen has been good to me, good low maintenance watches if you take care of them, give them a little light, and use them as originally designed. Love the features.
BN2038-01L promaster aqualand. Love it, great gift of the missus. Took it down to 42m and it recorded the depth perfectly. Real tool watch. I also have the mountain version which has a compass and elevation and truly works. Perfect back up tool watch when hiking, also tried and tested 💪🏻
Citizen CA0260-52E - Titanium Chrono 100m Sapphire Screw-back Solar - $300 ish. I've had one for a few years now and I LOVE it! It's so light, the lume is surprisingly good and it has this feature where the bracelet doubles as a watch stand, transforming it into a desk clock.
I have a 1976 Bullhead chrono, and it's great! It's a technical masterpiece being an automatic flyback chronograph with day and date, and after all these years it's still accurate to less than 5 secs/day (on average it loses 1.1 sec/day) ⌚🐂
You lucky b******! I bought my first citizen watch about 24 years ago - a titanium skyhawk - and I still have it. Been having trouble getting it serviced because it has needed a new capacitor after all this time. I was quoted £120 and paid a deposit of £60. Then I was told there had been a mistake and I should have been quoted £200 (the capacitor should have cost max £30 - I looked it up on line). It took ages to come back (about 5/6 weeks) and even then it wouldn't reach a full charge or hold a charge consistent with a new capacitor. I've sent it back as not satisfactory. Still waiting. In the meantime I've added another modern bullhead to my collection of 3 - now 4 bullheads, mostly citizen modest watch collection. I just luv Em!. I say lucky bxxxxxx because one of these days I'm going to get me a 70s version but I haven't got one yet.
I fall in love with Citizen watches starting with a quartz eco-drive titanium watch, then a super thin stiletto and finally acquired a limited edition fugu. Their line up for titanium watches is pretty dope and affordable.
My issues with Citizen: They love 42-44mm. They can’t can’t seem to make anything else. Their date windows are unnecessarily small. They do still make some great models otherwise.
For me too - the size and style alone means I won’t like 80% of Citizens, but when I do find one I like, it’s a sure bet! I have four now and are wearing them much more often than any other brands.
Citizen Aqualand was the first divers watch to have an electronic depth gauge in and dive timer. I still have mine - this tech was done in the late 80's (87 I think) - very accurate depth sensor. Was a great piece and I still have my original one. It is the watch that made me love watches
In a way it's beneficial for a lot of citizens fans like myself that's its underrated because the prices doesn't go up🤷 and my favorite citizen are two the NB-1050-59e and the NY0125-83E
My beautiful wife just presented me with my 1st Citizen ......The Promaster Dive 300m BN0085-01E....i'm totally blown away with it.....Checks all the boxes....Beautiful watch
I have 3 Citizens - Skyhawk, Promaster diver BNO150 and a titanium Paradigm - all solid grab and go pieces. I wish Citizen and Bulova would collaborate to make an EcoDrive Precisionist - would absolutely give Sekio's VK's a run for their money.
The more watches I own, the more I appreciate how easy an eco-drive watch is to have in the collection. Citizen makes a decent watch, for sure. The only easier watch I own is my CAH-zeeyo Oceanus.
Citizen has been my favourite watch brand for many years. They have never let me down and are very special to me. as a watch collector i do have all different brands but I’ve got more citizen watches than any other brand. Around 20 Citizen watches. Thank you for seeing have great they are. Very well done.
Great video. Absolutely agree with you that Citizens are great watches do to their aesthetics, Eco Drive and course their dependability. Besides my Apple watch it is a perfect everyday watch. The best Citizens are 1. Promaster Sea Aqualand Depth Meter Watch in Stainless Steel with Black Polyurethane strap, Black Dial (Model: BN2029-01E) 2. Promaster Air Skyhawk Eco-Drive Pilot Watch, Atomic Timkeeping Technology, Chronograph, Power Reserve Indicator, Ana-digi Display, Luminous Hands and Markers, Anti-Reflective Crystal, Black Ion-Plated JY8075-51E 3. Citizen Professional Master Direct Flight CB5001-57E To round out the collection of watches a want of course 1. Rolex 2. Apple Watch 3. Tissot 4. Rado With these 7 watches you should be set for any occasion and any mood.
My Citizen Promaster is the cheapest piece in my collection- yet it is the most comfortable, legible, and tough watch I own…🤷🏼♂️.it is my beater everyday watch, even more than my G Shocks.
I've got a Promaster GMT Diver, it's a solid beast of a watch, eco drive and sapphire glass for well below the $1000 limit Seiko seems to set before putting anything but hardlex in a watch.
I've bought an eco drive 10 years ago. Never had any issues. They also have a very exclusive brand that makes stunning pieces. I forgot what is called.....Campanola
I just bought a Citizen Eco Drive ladies watch for my partner, it has Roman numerals on the face; a really nice watch. I’m happy that I got my Bulova Spaceview back now that I’d let her wear it while her Tissot Ballade3 automatic was repaired. I think she will wear this and put the Tissot back in its box.
Owning a 2018 Chronomaster alongside a GS SBGA283, they really are toe to toe. Here in France, I know several people who own one, and the most recent versions really are awesome, and maybe slightly above the GS quartz counterparts, especially the super titanium models
I own 2 citizens. I have the Eco-drive Promaster, and a their Eco-drive Brycen Titanium Chronograph. Eco-drive is all of the perks of a quartz watch, with none of the drawbacks. Super accurate, and you never have to change the battery. Amazing. Also, one thing that really shocked me was THE LUME. The lume is possibly the best I’ve ever had on any dive watch, including my Seiko Samurai and my Zelos Swordfish. If you’re on the fence, get one. It’s my grab and go.
Great video, Jory! It was a $100.00 USD, Citizen Eco-drive that got me into the watch collection hobby, back in 2008. I currently have 3 Eco-drives in my collection, including the 2008 original that I brought in Aruba, on my honeymoon. I've probably owned another 6 or so that I've since sold, including a Nighthawk. It's also interesting to note that Citizen is the largest watch company in the world; ha ha Casio and Seiko. Just kidding, I like and own Casio and Seiko too!
Been wearing mainly citizens for 35 years, utilizing all the complications that man has to offer on various models. Never had any problem with any of them. All of them very accurate, reliable, reasonably priced, handsome looking, tons of great comments., I’m a happy customer
I started seriously collecting watches in 2004, I wanted to mainly stay with one brand and had the choice between Seiko and Citizen, due to costs. Having only had Seiko watches in the past, for personal use, I was rather tired of them all completely dying in or under 5 years. Because of this lack of longevity I started collecting a few Citizen watches, I NEVER LOOKED BACK, I now have a couple of hundred watches in my collection, 98% are all citizen.
@@salvadorjimenez1467 Over 200. I started collecting watches seriously in 2004, I was buying manual wind up watches on ebay for 99p bids when NOBODY wanted wind up watches. I only ever bought mint or great condition watches. Most are automatic watches, with the odd few very rare mint and working quartz ones that match the case styles of the automatic ones. I think of the quartz ones as the automatics' look-alike lesser cousins.
My wifey just bought me one today and I am in love with it they have a 5-year warranty on it and it's my first citizen echo drive watch with no battery operated ❤️❤️❤️❤️ and it's also my first over $200 watch every in my life thanks to my wifey
I remember watching Eco-Drive technology evovle. It was amazing to see. I later bought a Ti Calibre 2100 and it was an awesome piece that ran for 12 years before I sold it. Surprisingly, it retained 50% of its value!
I've had a Citizen Stars and Stripes for 15 years and is still running great. Recently I got a Promaster Land CB5921-59E, it is Eco Drive and Radio Controlled, so I just set it and forget it, knowing I don't need to replace the battery and/or adjust the time EVER! It can't get any better than that.
I wouldn't call Citizen "special"... I own a few and I find them quite vanilla and understated. But they definitely build better built watches than Seiko atm, never any QC issues and I like the Myota movements
Rocking an NY0040 at the moment (200m on the dial but certified to 500m by the Italian Navy). A great watch and it's completely changed my view of Citizen. Skx007 vibes without the silly price tag. Had previously been collecting the various different examples of the "Ray Mears" Promaster prior to that as a side project which piqued my interest. Gradually began to see the genius in their design. They just don't have the media presence of Seiko...which is probably a plus for any potential buyers.
I was just gifted my 3rd Citizen and most expensive watch I have ever owned and I am a hardcore fan since my first Citizen watch. Love their attention to detail and eco drive tech, I look forward to expand my collection
Favorite Citizen is my original TI Orca on resin with the black dial. My first watch that wasnt total crap. Ive had it for about 15 years, never opened up or serviced, still runs great.
I have the ladies citizen with the day/ date feature at 3:00 position. Blue face, battery operated . Absolutely love it. It's difficult to find a classic style beauty like this. I purchased it to replace the citizen gold face one just like it. The battery died and I saw the blue face on a new one and bought it. The style of the bezel is smooth and beautiful as opposed to pulsars corrugated bezel. ❤
I attribute Citizen's lack of watch-nerd status to how they move in all sorts of new directions. Their R &:D is bold, unlike many other established brands. Eco-drive is an example of something that has worked but they are currently fiddling around with hybrid connected watches. It will be interesting to see where that goes. Watch nerds can barely admit that an i-phone can tell time, imagine connecting a watch to one. The horror.
None of that bothers me. I find it interesting and I like manufacturers who take chances on technical innovations like this (Grand Seiko and Junghans come to mind immediately) My gripes with Citizen are entirely aesthetic. I would like an atomic timing watch or chronograph that doesn’t look like it came out of a manga comic. Something just a bit more refined and simple.
Nah, Citizen gets plenty of respect from watch nerds for their quality and the Eco-Drive is among the few quartz movements that even a lot of watch snobs won't turn their noses up at. I do think Citizen's overall design language tends to range from the more mundane to the outdated on most of their lineup. Citizen is like the nice, responsible, and smart uncle who's just kind of boring. Seiko is like the cool uncle who does exciting stuff but gets drunk and messes stuff up every once in a while.
I have a Citizen Eco Drive watch, solar powered, with a titanium case and band that I have owned for more than 20 years. It still looks very nice, works like a charm, and is my favorite watch.
Not a fan of Eco-Drives. I have had 4 and every one has died an early and disappointing death on watches I loved. Field, Diver, doesn't matter. I had an original, replaced with a newer 5 years later. No Joy. Had a modern, bought 3 years ago--dead! But don't go. The Citizen Miyota Divers are off the chart. Im a Righty that owns a Lefty Diver and it is an every day Go To and the watch when I dive! Amazing watch. Automatic, accurate, and unbelievable reliability. Citizen automatics are untouchable. I prefer over my Seikos (price) and my Orient (ruggedness). I own an old school Omega Seamaster--and the Citizen wins on reliability over price. Seamaster is 20+ years old so not going anywhere, but Citizen is day to day! Can't beat an automatic Citizen.
I own two vintage Citizen Eagle 7 automatic watches from the 80s and I love them. They're light, slim and they are "discreet". And by that I mean, that they are not trying to be "in your face". They are just elegantly plain and light on the wrist and I appreciate that. And they do what they were made to do: keep time. I am definitely going to hold on to them.
I have my mom's 20+ year old Eco Drive that I wear occasionally. I was impressed with how solidly built it was compared to the watches I wore at the time. Side note: I always think of this old commercial when Citizen comes up! ruclips.net/video/3Bg_L_ofe9I/видео.html
My Favourite Watch Love my Citizen JP2000-08e because of its incredible history as the first dive watch with an accurate electronic depth sensor and the fact that it has been one of the most used watches by actual scuba divers, whether they be sport, professional or military divers. It looks and feels like a real tool watch. Plus, the JP2000-08e has so many actual dive features: - certified diver to 200 meters - uni-directional bezel to track dive time (very solid clicks) - excellent lume on indices and hands - depth sensor and depth display in meters accurate to +/- 1% - records key data of your previous 4 dives: date, start time, max. depth reached, dive duration - audible alarm for reaching max. desired depth - audible alarm for reaching max. desired dive duration - audible alarm for exceeding safe ascent rate - quick adjust bracelet to fit over wet suit Plus it has more features: - perpetual date (digital window can display: 12 hr time, day/date, seconds) - chronograph/ stop watch - daily alarm - excellent lume - able to display 2 separate times (digital and analog display) - 24 mil lug width (superior case to bracelet connection) - quick adjust clasp (to adjust length/fit on wrist w/o tool) - love the bead blasted finish on the bracelet Plus Accuracy - mine is tested by me to +9 seconds per YEAR Plus Cost - approx: $400 USD Wishes: - Eco drive movement - sapphire instead of mineral crystal - illuminated digital window
Thanks for throwing Citizen some well deserved shade. I only have two but they are a couple of my favorites. Both Eco Drives. Weekender and Promaster Dive. Excellent durable accurate watches. I will buy more.
got my first citizen(e-168 diver) as my 15 year employee longevity award. I recently started wearing it after a 10-12 year hiatus ( was wearing other watches) out of the blue. It was not running so i let it sit in the Texas summer sun ,on my car dashboard for a few hours and wallah, now running like a champ! upgraded the band and put it back into my rotation of everyday wearing! Fantastic entry level watch. Love the channel, btw!
Thanks for Citizen love. My fav is the Golf Titanium, “left handed” no less. It’s my daily beater and I’m not exaggerating about being a beater who’s sapphire still looks new after 10 years!
I bought a lady Eco drive off Overstock for like $100 15-20 years ago and it looks great. I put a beating on this watch too. Very impressed with quality style and pricing of Citizen.
I have a BN0000-04H my dad gave me when I joined the service. Wore it almost every day for 10 years and it took a beating. It’s still going and after 3 rubber straps I put it on a black NATO which is just right. Wife gave me a Seamaster a few years ago so now it’s my fishing and outdoors beater. Have owned a newer Promaster and Pepsi SKX, while nice they weren’t nearly as durable feeling as the 04H and the smaller size fits so well on my wrist. It’s also nice on the way out the door to put it on and its already ticking and ready to go!
I have just started watch collecting today, and after careful consideration of cost and availability settled on a Citizen Eco-Drive AW7040-02A. got it for a steal at $85 Canadian! Videos like this one helped a lot with taking the plunge into what i know is a passion my wallet will regret but I wanted to thank you for your presentation.
I've had a calibre 8700 for about 12 years and I still love it. It cost me about £200 but looks far more expensive. Replaced the leather strap with a metal one after 3 years. Citizen straps don't tend to last I don't think. That's the only negative.
At least, in my experience, owning a few of each, Citizens quality control and general finish seems to blow Seikos out of the water. I love both brands but I think, at least, at the moment Citizen make a better watch pound for pound !!
Totally agree with you :)
Well said, couldn't agree with you more. 👏
Yes!!!

Are you not supposed to let it drain completely?
@@troybingham642610-4. The capacitors can go bad but you can do an emergency charge like he did
@@troybingham6426No. I did that with a Seiko solar watch and it took weeks in the sun before it started working again. I had almost given up on it. Now they all sit near a window. :-)
Agreed. I just pulled my Citizen titanium out of the drawer after about 6 years. Put it in the window sill for about 3hrs and still works great.
I have 2x Titanium Divers and a pro diver automatic they are absolutely fantastic. I took off one of the titanium ones and threw it against the wall (in anger stupidly) it just stuck in the wall not a thing wrong with it lol.
My wife bought me a citizen ecodrive for Christmas a few years ago and I love it. I'm not a watch guy at all but I'm happy to own my citizen.
It's odd that someone who's "not a watch guy at all" even found this video, tbh lol

Still going strong even after the divorce.. ;-)
i got same watch!! made in 2000 never stopped or missed a beat yet!!!!!! thx
Watch lasted longer than the marriage and probably more reliable as well.
Should've married the watch.
watch is stronger than your marriage
The watch outlasted your marriage haha
The longer I own Citizen watches, the more I love them. Probably became my favourite big brand in the last few years. Nothing beats my favourite BN0150, not even automatic divers at double the price. 💪
You know they make that model in the "Pepsi" look now. Red and blue. It's gorgeous!
The longer I own mine 6 years now, the more I’m shocked by the fact I haven’t had to reset the time
hi good day, i am confused in between Citizen BN0158-85X and Seiko SPB103J1 , what you recommend ?
Seiko
You can still buy the 1997 introduced Fugu
Got a Blue Angels from my wife as a wedding present, just love it.
I bought the Blue Angels AT World Time Chronograph a month ago. I absolutely love it! Spot on accuracy, and love the blue dial.
Very nice present -- Congratulations!
I have one of those (same scenario) and it’s easily one of my favorites.
Did u get the fighter jet helmet? That thing is cool.
I have a Chronomaster. It is a fantastic watch - very competitive with my Grand Seiko.
i have a gold tone wr100 serial 960706 number. i had this piece 20 years now bought used from a friend.... it has been super accurate, and has never stopped. Amazing it inspired me to buy three other citizen watches over the years. thxTT!!!!!!
Citizen has the best quartz movement in the world the cal. 0100 +/- 1 sec per year
Easily higher stuff than everything we know including any high horology
It also is made with duratec alpha which is as hard as ceramic or sapphire but stronger
So diamond?
@@jtec99 diamond is still substantially harder than anything on the planet
Durante Alpha? I've not heard of that. My understanding is that many Citizens use mineral crystal, with some using sapphire.
@@9tophat sorry, I misspelled. Is duratec alpha. It's the type of titanium. Citizen like other Japanese brands have low en, medium and high end.
FACT on the caliber! Everyone raves on the 9F movement and discard citizens
Just curious, does it have the ability to keep track of daylight savings time?
@@YouGetSoAlone nope. I have to manually set it back today.
They're durable. I put one out on a concrete balcony in the sun to charge and the concrete got way hotter than I would have thought. The watch got fried like an egg. Too hot to touch the casing. Somehow its still working and working accurately. Now I use an LED watch charger instead.
Got the same watch. Love it. In the market for another watch now, cos - you know, I can.
I have one as well 18 years old never been opened still going strong never missed a beat
Don’t forget the 5 year warranty!
Hopefully unlike the bloke before you, your marriage is still intact.
Ecodrives are the best quartz watches. Period! Love the video
Id pick a Chronomaster over a GS anyday!
My opinion is: A Citizen watch will out-perform and out-last any Seiko automatic watch, or even a Seiko quartz. For the price, their durability and performance will be extremely hard to duplicate. Essentially, they are of Longines quality at a fraction of the price.
Well said!
they are certainly made to last, never having to redial the time, never charging or replacing a battery, they will certainly last forever
Just look at their Barnacle! It was a Citizen watch found submerged in the ocean off Australia. It had been submerged for a few years and had barnacles on it, yet it was still running-'nuff said...
I have five Citizen watches, a flew Breitling and Omegas as well. You can't beat the price point and quality and selection of Citizen!
I love Citizen, one of my fav brands! I have 3!
Just three! 😉😅
Like the BN0200 56E 👍👍👍
All I know is I got a Citizen watch for Xmas and I feel so class ⌚🙂
I think citizen suffers from the “mall watch” stereotype as if that somehow speaks toward the quality a brand is putting out.
Exactly
They suffer from “mall watch” design. The quality of the product is high, no question. They are very robust, reliable pieces. But to look at them? Meh.
@@patrickcannady2066 why? The new Citizen Series 8 look sexy as F
Just received my first citizen watch for Christmas. I love it already!
@@tancreddehauteville764 I have 3 dozen of them, with no problems at all. They're fantastic.
He did mention the Nighthawk which has a gps function.
@@tancreddehauteville764 no they don't inside a building, they also mention that when setting the watch. My watch sits by the window at night, gets a signal every time.
I came from Seiko to Citizen and after the third Citizen, I say beye beye Seiko.
Seiko lost the game for me quality wise.
They have , but soo many RUclips reviewers etc still loyally kiss their ass 🙄
I adore it.
which model of eco drive you have please ? and which one you recommend?
Have loved citizen watches since my 1990 wingman, went through a war with it, and wore it until it finally died in about 2007. Won’t ever throw it away though. Currently have an ny2300, ny0040, and a chrono titanium eco drive. Got another ny0040 in blue on the way, can’t beat the bang for the buck
is it not repairable ?
I appreciate the Citizen love. I've been a Citizen buyer for years. A Citizen Pro-Master is one of the best watches you can get for the money. Thanks for the video.
....You should have said something about their Pro-Master line.
Awesome! I'm glad Citizen is getting some love. They have some real classics in their current and vintage lineups
I own a Citizen AQ6010 caliber 0100, the most precise watch ever, I love it! :)
The best every day watches in the universe. Cutting edge technology, reliable, affordable and discreet.
my daily wear is a plain steel WR Citizen dress watch . looks way more expensive that it was .
As I watch this video, I am proudly wearing my Citizen Wingman purchased in 1987 on my first trip to HK when I was 15 yrs old. Cheers from Australia!
I fall in love with Citizen watches starting with a quartz eco-drive titanium watch, then a super thin stiletto and finally acquired a limited edition fugu. Their line up for titanium watches is pretty dope and affordable.
My issues with Citizen:
They love 42-44mm. They can’t can’t seem to make anything else.
Their date windows are unnecessarily small.
They do still make some great models otherwise.
Have I got great news for you then; Citizen bullhead (AN3660-81L), legendary but sadly I can't wear it as its too small. You should check it out!
@@thetravelingnomad6203 yes, I saw it on JOMW. I’ve got 7” wrists like Jody does. So it will look a bit too small for me as it did for him.
NOBLIA
For me too - the size and style alone means I won’t like 80% of Citizens, but when I do find one I like, it’s a sure bet! I have four now and are wearing them much more often than any other brands.
Thats true though!
I have almost a 7 inch hand.
Citizen Aqualand was the first divers watch to have an electronic depth gauge in and dive timer. I still have mine - this tech was done in the late 80's (87 I think) - very accurate depth sensor. Was a great piece and I still have my original one. It is the watch that made me love watches
I have a limited edition (GN-5-S) ecodrive divers 300m titaninium it is superb! It is better than both my former 300m Omega seamasters!
Watch nut here ,,,, just purchased my 2nd citizen eco drive and Im very happy with it.. AW1248-80E Looks like a grand seiko! I❤it ....
I have a 1980s Citizen Eagle 7 automatic that is spot on for accuracy. It is real Gold plated and really attractive on a cordovan lizard strap.
Great video. Absolutely agree with you that Citizens are great watches do to their aesthetics, Eco Drive and course their dependability. Besides my Apple watch it is a perfect everyday watch. The best Citizens are
1. Promaster Sea Aqualand Depth Meter Watch in Stainless Steel with Black Polyurethane strap, Black Dial (Model: BN2029-01E)
2. Promaster Air Skyhawk Eco-Drive Pilot Watch, Atomic Timkeeping Technology, Chronograph, Power Reserve Indicator, Ana-digi Display, Luminous Hands and Markers, Anti-Reflective Crystal, Black Ion-Plated JY8075-51E
3. Citizen Professional Master Direct Flight CB5001-57E
To round out the collection of watches a want of course
1. Rolex
2. Apple Watch
3. Tissot
4. Rado
With these 7 watches you should be set for any occasion and any mood.
My Citizen Promaster is the cheapest piece in my collection- yet it is the most comfortable, legible, and tough watch I own…🤷🏼♂️.it is my beater everyday watch, even more than my G Shocks.
citizen is probably my favorite watch brand tbh
I've got a Promaster GMT Diver, it's a solid beast of a watch, eco drive and sapphire glass for well below the $1000 limit Seiko seems to set before putting anything but hardlex in a watch.
I own a Citizen AT2438-53E Eco-Drive and I love it! It's reliable, reasonably tough, has a sporty look and I got it dirt cheap in a sale!👍🏼
I've bought an eco drive 10 years ago. Never had any issues. They also have a very exclusive brand that makes stunning pieces. I forgot what is called.....Campanola
I have four of them and all have had to have the "capacitor" replaced- it's a $70 part.
@@mytuberforyou didn't happen to me yet...
Do they all work?
A couple hundred?
@@LosmiPZS Yes, they all work, some, very few, need slight servicing but I only ever bought fully working watches.
Time Teller, another great episode, thank you.
Citizen Eco Drive Promaster Tough - Sapphire - Titanium - Bracelet Watch BN0118-55E - Great tool watch
Love their attention to detail and eco drive tech, I look forward to expand my collection
i think Citizen will get more appreciated in the year's to come. Also, i named mine Bob huhuhuhu.
Favorite Citizen is my original TI Orca on resin with the black dial. My first watch that wasnt total crap. Ive had it for about 15 years, never opened up or serviced, still runs great.
7 minutes of sidebar digressions and hardly anything said that could not have been said in 30 sec
Odd all my eco drives last, going on 6 years + now
I own two vintage Citizen Eagle 7 automatic watches from the 80s and I love them.

My Favourite Watch
Love my Citizen JP2000-08e because of its incredible history as the first dive watch with an accurate electronic depth sensor and the fact that it has been one of the most used watches by actual scuba divers, whether they be sport, professional or military divers. It looks and feels like a real tool watch.
Plus, the JP2000-08e has so many actual dive features:
- certified diver to 200 meters
- uni-directional bezel to track dive time (very solid clicks)
- excellent lume on indices and hands
- depth sensor and depth display in meters accurate to +/- 1%
- records key data of your previous 4 dives: date, start time, max. depth reached, dive duration
- audible alarm for reaching max. desired depth
- audible alarm for reaching max. desired dive duration
- audible alarm for exceeding safe ascent rate
- quick adjust bracelet to fit over wet suit
Plus it has more features:
- perpetual date (digital window can display: 12 hr time, day/date, seconds)
- chronograph/ stop watch
- daily alarm

Im a big guy and the h820-s092035 fits me perfectly. Plus it looks amazing, it does not look cheap or copied from other well known models at all.
citizen helped to set up Hmt watches in India in the 1960s.
I have a Citizen Eco. drive day date watch on my wrist now. I love it.
I have a few favorites, but my current favorite is the world AT chrono CB5874-57A, with the silver dial. It’s panda-esque, and I love it
I have two. One when I turned 60 and another when I turned 65. wonderful watches!
I have 8 citizens right now, all eco-drives, bought them all in the last two years or so. Love each one, plan on buying a few more ✊🏻❤️
I have just started watch collecting today, and after careful consideration of cost and availability settled on a Citizen Eco-Drive AW7040-02A. got it for a steal at $85 Canadian!
