Now a days the word jealousy and the word envy are used in identical context. In reality, envy is the emotion that occurs when we experience an extreme desire for something that someone else has, whether it is a quality, achievement or possession but we don’t think we can have it. Jealousy is the emotion that occurs when we anticipate or feel the loss of something of great value to us, whether it be a quality, achievement or possession. In other words, one exists when we wish to keep what we have and the other occurs when we want to get what we don’t have and in either case, feel powerless to do so. Why do these emotional states feel so similar (similar enough to be confused as one another)? Because they are both the emotional reflection of lack. In this episode, Teal shows us how to overcome these painful emotions.

I have chronic envy of anyone that is settled and in a happy relationship - it gets to a point where I can't even walk around my home town without feeling bitter and upset from seeing other couples hand in hand. I'm staryting to work through my issues, watching videos like this and others. So far it is really helping.

I told my sister I was envious of her and it really helped me a lot. She didn't judge me for it or make me feel bad, she just gave me a different perspective. I feel much more at peace in that regard... it's no longer working behind the scenes, it's out in the open and therefore lost its power. I really hope anyone else watching this is able to own up to it too... it's such a painful place to be. You deserve better than that! 🖤🖤

"You are meant to have whatever it is that you want and you are meant to keep the things that are precious to you." This not only sums the video up but it also answers a question I've always asked myself. "Why do I change my mind so much when it comes to the things I desire to have in my life?" This includes experiences I have with people. I am never going to stay the same and I do not need to feel guilt for desiring bigger and better things and more of my needs being met by romantic relationships. To want more is natural and to put that wanting into action towards getting it is our right. So I can continue to change my mind knowing I have full right in doing this now its time for me to work on the guilt of this which still remains. Thank you Teal.

“Jealousy is the emotion that occurs when we anticipate, or feel the loss of something of great value to us…….
Jealousy exists when we want to keep what we have……and in either case we feel powerless to do so”
Essentially if you’re feeling envy or jealousy, it means the ego perceives a threat, such as a third party threat it has with someone”
Wow, this helped me realise exactly why I feel Jealous, and to put what I feel into words. She basically spells it out.
I feel jealous when I think someone I Love(even a friend) is going to replace me with someone else, and my place of importance or significance in that persons life is going to be taken away from me.
Before watching this I might have struggled to understand WHY I feel jealous, and to word it.
It feels good to know why I feel Jealousy, and its not because I’m a horrible person.

I do not become envious or jealous easily, it is not chronic. But, something happened that I cannot deny I become so envious, I even screamed! This emotion is so sharp that if you are not a master of suppressing you would know inside that you feel this way. Anyways. After trying to escape the feeling for an hour, I decided to watch something helpful. I cannot describe how Teal helps me in so many ways. And this video is absolutely helped me to change my point of view and offered me ways to embrace it. Thank You a Lot! I'm grateful for your works and sharings.

I'm so so grateful to hear more clarity on these things. And, I've been dealing with a ton of shame lately! I recently had a relationship turn and I felt deeply jealous and confused about it. Slowly shame started creeping in and turning my world upside down with terrible beliefs about myself, about the person, about the situation, and then my life started closing off from all of the beautiful things I love and opening to the very fears I hoped to avoid in my life and I couldn't seem to go against it no matter what! Shame started turning me to attachments that weren't healthy and I didn't want but felt like nothing else was there, shame started turning my body into something so different, my thoughts were less loving and everything affirmed no body loved me, my hair started falling out, I became critical and less vulnerable. And I was still trying to perform. I was looking to that relationship still and trying to prove myself and compete I was worthy of love. And it hurt. I moved from someone of such high self love to something so low worth and value. And it hurt. I remembered through the relationship things he would say to me that pushed insecurities in the relationship but didn't look at it seriously then. Even now I desire to know what was happening or to be vulnerable enough to share that this is what I was feeling (evlnvy, jealousy, shame) and yet I believe it might not create more intimacy at this time as he is moved to another relationship which is what tore the relationship apart. My feelings of him moving away/detaching from me was painful for me. I couldn't understand how this person that loved me so much wouldn't talk to me during the time or lead a real conversation. Even if we speak more intimately, it won't change the dynamic for us personally. And I feel so jaded a bit I'm scared to be this vulnerable with him about how it affected me.

I agree with every word Teal says in this video.. except on one thing... the gratitude thing... it’s ok to have gratitude for what we have, it’s certainly a wonderful practice... but it will never replace what we lack for real... it’s just consolation for the things we really don’t have... and it shouldn’t stop us for going after what we desire so badly... It’s like saying « ok, I don’t have love/money/comfort/friends in my life, but I have spirituality ! » come on... not a good idea to blind oneself with false consolations...

I'm grateful to hear someone say that I really am meant to have what I want...this whole experience I listed below has slowly caused me to believe I'm not where I used to be so so open to the world and my life and trsuting and safe. I have been feeling so much lack lately and it hurt. I'm also grateful to be reminded that there's nothing wrong to feel jealous or envy. I've been condemning myself about it. However it's so weird I also felt in the relationship that I didn't want this person anymore after I felt that they were moving away from me to someone else. I was perceiving lack and it felt okay to me when I thought we both were. Ar times now I even almost want to play therapist with him being that he wasn't comfortable communicating to me what was happening for him. I almost feel myself abanding myself to do it really. I'm just so desperate to feel loved and cared for in this situation, feel like myself again, and trust. I was in a relationship with a man and so in love with him, who was married unhappily, and, at the time I thought this was all it was and nothing more just someone who had a hard time leaving a marriage he wasn't happy with (being very vulnerable sharing the experience, please be gentle with comments). However I learned when we were falling apart that he wished to marry/be with more than one woman. I always wanted to be in love with a man that who wanted me only. And I found myself looking to him in hopes that he would affirm that someone does or would. It felt like in this experience I was being told no one would want that with me. It hurt. We had such deep love and bonding. I couldn't understand how someone could be so selfish with me knowing my desires in life and love. I couldn't understand how someone wouldn't communicate to me. It scared me. I felt things through the relationship. I received vague statements or silence often. I realize I've become quite bitter from this experience where I had such trust of myself and him when I presented concerns. I often moved my attentions elsewhere in attempts to do what was better for me and my life. I was shamed and criticized when I would bring it up and talk about possibly seeing other people. There's such a pain here, it really hurts 😢 I feel duped. I feel like I have something to prove. I feel like I'm so far out of myself and what's comfortable to me. We often had a push pull relationship of off and on again. I want to blame him, I want to blame myself. I want something to hold him more accountable. There were things I didn't love like not wanting to be around people that support me most/feel uncomfortable around him. It wasn't loving to me. It was selfish. I'm very sad and it all came from feeling envious/jealous. :'(

As a kid I once felt jealous of a friend because she was prettier. but then I started thinking of the good things I have that she lack for example my family was more comfortable financially than hers therefore my clothes and accessories were nicer. We all have worse or better things than others. Also I was jealous of a singer because she was beautiful and talented, and again I thought the same, there is always something to find I had better, I had youth she didn't and I thought who knows what the future holds for me I could be one day better than her. Of course I don't want to be an artist now as an adult but you get the idea.
Maybe you are envying someone else career but you have a family and they don't, maybe that same person is envying you for having a family.

Reina B. Ramos you sound like a very insecure person. I was never jealous for a friend's good fortune, either in looks or intelligence or athletic ability, family or wealth. Why do you have to compare yourself to others to see what you have that's better than them? You might want to work on that emotion.

I feel envy VERY often moreover, it doesn't pose as a problem to me, so I REALLY think it should NOT be demonized at all. Me, feeling jealous is quite rare, but it happens. I don't like feeling replaced, so I try my best to play my role?
When I begin to feel envious - to me, it means that I should just meet my needs, which I find to be healthy. I get whatever the person has moreover, in recently days, I've found that communication is beneficial. But, I STILL feel that I still can't go telling people I'm envious of them because it may pose as a threat albeit, it shouldn't.

Spot on with envy, where the focus of desire is on the *possession* rather than the owner. Jealousy's focus, on the other hand, is toward the *person*, and invariably negative, because you feel you're equally, if not more deserving of what they apparently posses. Made me think that did, hehe.

My cousin and I were always very close, she is very independent and a hard worker. I am a good worker but I have a part time job, I don't like to feeling to busy because I get stressed easily and I like to be available for my bf because his job is very time consuming so when he's free I like to be free too. She's beautiful and i'm pretty too I guess she's very adventurous and disciplined and extremely flirtatious (she loves attention at least I think). I'm getting married and i'm happy about that. Ive never been an envious person but she's told me "you get everything so easily" when she told me this I thought this to me 1.) I have a good man, 2.) I'm getting my college paid due to FAFSA. 3.) I have a good family and ive always had what I needed due to my parents (I am not rich) i just have what I've needed not everything ive wanted. She's put me down for not making enough money. When im with her I feel weak, I feel small like I am not as beautiful not as independent. Sometimes I get so paranoid that I idolize her too much that I think my man wants her too even though I know he doesn't but she's just so flirty and beautiful. Why wouldn't he. I feel like a leach that has always been supported first by my parent and now by my bf that I know does it because he loves me. Why do I need to feel validation from her. I fear everyone sees me as weak and incompetent of taking care of myself or doing something right. She's made me feel dumb and yet I am jealous of her adventures, independent, way of being. I needed to watch this video but if anyone took the time to read this please give me advice.

I just realized I wasn't subscribed to teal swan, I've changed that now. After like 20 videos I never even bothered to support the channel - I didn't even think of it... because I was so immersed in her observations, she stands out to me as one of the most unique and intuitive perspectives I've ever seen. It helps me not feel so alone when you can at some point find others near your plane of energy. I'll try not to write an essay on this comment because it just flows naturally; I wish you all the best version of yourself possible if you could entertain the possibility at all, it could open up the latent potential you have, stay strong and allow yourself to believe in more than you feel, as feeling can be as rough as diamonds cutting your skin or full of ecstasy.

I am envy every time I see or feel someone is better, richer and more attractive. I know I have that problem so I try to control it but it can be so painful. For example my friend started going to gym and he looks better then ever but I have problems with my knees and doctor said I should not go to gym so I cannot look way better than now. Every time I see him I feel envy, and each time he looks better and better and feels more attractive with higher self esteem. My self esteem has always been low. Souch a terrible emotion

My problem is with being around jealous people. I feel guilty for having strengths. In one of your videos you mention idolization and how you can project your positive attributes to others as to not own them. Id like to hear more about that because I do a lot of idolization and this conclusion about it makes a lot of sense for me!

Envy is often confused with jealousy, because they are both rivalrous painful emotions, which are directed at a competitor and are concerned with a good. But envy is about the potential or actual lack of the good, while jealousy is about the potential or actual loss of the good. This distinction is not always clear cut, as a section devoted to ambiguous, hybrid, and transitional cases shows. In the end, envy is defined as an aversive response to a perceived inferiority or disadvantage vis-à-vis a similar other, with regard to a good that is relevant to the sense of identity of the envier. ( from Cambridge university website)

I appreciated this video, it's a good summary of these emotions. It's not new information though. It's just CBT. If you are experiencing lack and you switch into thinking about what you have, you're still on the have/have not axis of duality. If you're dealing with the wounded mind, then switching to the abundance polarity can be healing. If you're dealing with spiritual truth, then both are purely contextual and perceptual, because once you dissolve the axis then you are left with stillness, emptiness and pure presence, which is neither of those things.

I think in my case, it was purely situational. I have never been a jealous type girlfriend. But with this one guy, I was envious of his friends and jealously of any woman he gave particular special attention to. That is because it was pointing to an extreme lack in the relationship in terms of where he put his priorities. He gave his friends his best and leaving barley crumbs for me in terms of time, energy, and resources. Same with other women. He noticed and gave attention to other women and made THEM feel special while never once telling me what was special about me. Even when I asked. So, yes, definitely, these feelings were indicating a need of mine that was not being met, not by a long stretch. Needless to say, that relationship didn't last.

I get envious of people based on the opportunities it seems like they get or the attention that they recieve. Early in life I became pretty aware that I had differences in my appearance and body. Being gay is a huge source of envy because it isn’t something I wanted at all. My biggest misstep in life was underestimating the power that envy had over my life. . And weirdly enough I kind of appreciate my envy because as dark as it is, facing my envy, accepting my envy and realizing that I have to work through my envy helps me feel more authentic. Which . . Huh. . That helps my self esteem. Thanks Teal.

This " you cannot want something unless it's meant to be yours" is what makes me believe in Teal...but seeing how people twist this and mix in karma beliefs or how they make you own more shadow than it's necessary makes me flip out of really having any hopes for anything at all.

For me it's been a life long struggle. When I was only 3 months my mom was pregnant again with my younger sister, she was born 4 days before my birthday so not even a year apart. So her bday would always come first, and she would get her gift first. Seems I was always in her shadow. All of my baby time I had to split with her. Seeking attention when my sister was being changed i would pee so I could be changed too lol but if that wasn't enough she was blessed with beauty she has beautiful deep dimples, and a nice figure so growing up all the girls at school was jealous of her all of the boys liked her and the neighborhood adults would be like oh your sister is sooo pretty! She was even nicknamed by a family friend Butterfly 🦋 and what did i get??? FROG! 🐸🤣🤣 literally two of the most beautiful And hideous creatures. She always made the Honor Roll and principals list. In middle school, I remember a Shoe carnival had opened up in our town. We both applied they hired her, and told me.. ✌Well we can only hire one of y'all.✌ I know that was a damn lie! And if that was the case why her? It hurt, i was humiliated and embarrassed. This complex has followed me even to this day, for this reason I don't have many friends, and I'm more free and secure in my self esteem alone. I don't like to go places with certain people or bring anyone I date around them, bc my date will (from experience I know) be too interested in either of my sisters, my sister in law or even my nieces. When I go places alone I feel like I finally get to shine, 🌟 I even get attention and compliments! But as soon as im walking with my sister in law or sister it's all eyes on them. It's like night and day. Also I've tried to live my life as a loyal, giving person. I believed if I just remained patient, and humble one day I would finally enjoy my fruit. I remember in high school I would stay with my granny. And help her. I would plant vegetables, clean, do her hair, toenails, gather chicken eggs, meanwhile my sister's were sneaking out windows and dating. My first bf wasn't until 21. My younger sister had given birth before I had sex 🤣 When they had kids I babysat while they went out. Still waiting for Gods favor in life. Not just them My ex sister in law abandoned my niece and nephew for 7 years. Where is She now? O just Driving a Benz, Vacationing, from Mexico to New York to Cali. I prayed for yearrrssss for a child..never came, but she's blessed agaib with another child. My ex walked all over me, I was 100% loyal, always helped him when he had NOTHING I never turned my back on him, I would give him half if I only had a slice of bread. When I fell on hard times, he was NEVER there. The last time he completely said fuck you bye! I lost him, my apartment, my car, all I have is a huge suitcase sleeping on twin sized air mattress on the floor in my 12 year old nieces room at my brothers house. It felt like the last breath of my life was violently kicked out my my chest! While he's traveling the world driving luxury cars. I don't want to throw a pity party but it's just hard to not feel jealous and bitter when it seems like all you've ever been dealt is unfortunate cards.

How about feeling happy for what others have and just develop your own strong points? It seems to me that your pretty sister is frivolous and has few good boundaries whereas you can go to bed at night knowing that you tried to be the best person you can be. Instead of being in a competition where someone else who is stronger in a specific area such as prettiness, how about increasing your education or physical health? I recommend you watch the life story of the movie kegend Hedy Lamarr. There's a few things that she is quoted as saying at the end of the biography that is a good script for us all on how to overcome adversity. Hedy Lamarr was outstandingly beautiful but it did not give her all the things in life that she deserved. I hope you do watch this biography instead of continuing to wallow in self-pity.

I recently joined a new school and there was a boy who I was interested in, and a part of me thought he was to, but then a new girl joined and I found out he already liked her. I think I was and still am envious and jealous of her. I compare myself with her quite a lot and it doesn’t help that I feel really embarrassed about it plus I’m finding it difficult to make friends in general, so it just makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong or that I’m not good enough or pretty enough, and some days it makes me feel pretty bad about myself, like today for example :( but I’m glad I was able to admit this :)
