People tell themselves that desire causes personal suffering. That desire causes a separation between them and the people they love. That desire causes people to get hurt. That desire means they are not evolved or spiritually mature enough. That desire implies missing the value of what is and the list goes on and on. But, in order to live a healthy, happy, fulfilling life, you must come to love desire instead of be afraid of desire.

Asian women are raised as codependents. Also Asian men. Basically Asians are raised to keep unhappy relationships and wearing masks and doing excessive people-pleasing and self sacrificing.
Europeans are raised as total narcissists : sacrificing others for the sake of self , not knowing how to negociate and find agreements , obsession about individuality that ends up in making themselves extra lonely (self-destructing individualism) .
There is work to do on both sides.

You want to "bust that energy" but not at the expense of the true energy of others. As teal said when and where we can we should work things out together. If that's not possible then terminate the malfunctioning relationship instead of busting your own desires at the expense of someone else's, because you feel you've been oppressed for so long as an Asian, a woman or whatever

Desire should be taken for both its positive and negative aspects. It is the flame of life and very necessary but as all fire it can destroy when it gets the best of us. To deny desire will surely lead to misfortune as the unconscious elements will become conscious in the most disagreeable ways. But to give in to desire without reservation is also dangerous as you will be giving yourself away to be burnt by the fires of passion, needless to say this is where recklessness meets the sharp edges that unchecked desire produces. A certain level of composure is always necessary especially when dealing with something as fundamentally volatile as what we most want.

    Just integrated this lesson.
For a very long time I created a huge distraction of my inherent desire of being adored and protected, and it turned into a major trigger based around others getting that very need met by being vulnerable in a way I could not access.
My trauma came to a head today. A worst nightmare of mine came true. I sat in a somatic felt experience if that pain and from it, came a tiny desire revealed to me, that had long disguised itself as a horrific monster.
For anyone reading, your trauma is there to teach you so much. Sit with it, listen to your body's sensations, and you may find that, like me, a desire reveals itself to you like a little gift informing you about your neglected needs. 💕 I hope this speaks to someone.

So perfect. This is what I needed today. As a kid, my basic needs often weren’t taken care of. When I expressed them, I was treated as though it was selfish to have basic needs. I’ve only ever been able to pursue my desires if I can find a way for them to serve others/the group. This has led me to me playing a hero/savior archetype. The idea that I can do things just for myself, and that self-love and other love are one in the same (if it is true love), has been a profound shift. I’m growing into self-love, self-compassion, self-care, but desire is still hard. I have so much programming around my desires being selfish. Thank you for presenting a vision of spirituality that isn’t constantly trying to kill or transcend the human, but rather to integrate him/her/they.

So well put! Unfortunately this parent child dynamic is the norm in society. Our physical needs are taken care of but there is no realisation of our emotional and mental needs like our desires. As soon as we expressed a desire for something we are punished and told that we are selfish. I’m so happy that you have noticed this dynamic and Are putting in the steps towards self love and integration. We need more people like you 💖

Pause and temporarily deny your desires and you will find what your heart longs for. For, in an emotional rush or fit of anger, how do you know if any desire of yours is where your truest and eternal self resides unless you listen to your heart. One work from the heart, however small, done secretly, without desire that it be known, is worth more than a thousand done with the desire that people know of them. We are obliged to be careful and understand what we are doing. Make sense of something before acting and fulfilling your desires since desires lead to intent.

I know now why. I confirm now.

I was just thinking about that! How desire happens in response to trauma...
Pathological or maladaptive obsessions such as greed, power hunger, sex addiction, compulsive workaholism, etc... it’s all stemming from scarcity and unmet needs from the past. Longing for something is so painful...

I've followed my desires in life, and I can safely say it has brought both tremendous joy and incredible pain. Benjamin Franklin said, "If Passion drives, let Reason hold the reigns." I'm glad you brought this perspectice Teal Swan, as often in the spiritual and religious communities there's a judgement over desiring material "earthly things" when in fact there is no wrong. Desire IS, working to achieve what your heart yearns is the right path, not the condemnation of others or limiting beliefs placed on you. There's INFINTE ways to reconnect with Source, there's not one path or set of beliefs.

-it makes me vulnerable to rejection or failure, and that would confirm my inadequacy.
-I feel shame and guilt because of false beliefs about desire due to selfishness programming. I think I’m a bad person if I go for what I want.
-if I can’t achieve or attain what I desire, I fear frustration and self criticism because it will lead to feelings of incompetency.

Growing up, I've had this idea that having desire is something shameful... So up until I was 28 years old, I've never even considered what I truly desired. When I did ask myself the question, I got so frustrated with myself because I didn't know the answer... I didn't know how to read my own feelings at that moment. Back when I was 20, I read Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit. One of the things I remember most from the book was his definition of desire. He is an Idealist, so the definition was essentially the Platonic Form of desire. This means that it is the perfected notion in the transcendent world of Forms that everything else here participates in, to a lesser degree. The definition of Desire is "the annihilation of the object." When we desire food, we attempt to annihilate the "objectness" of the lesser being that becomes elevated through the ideal to the higher organism in the food chain. Annihilation is never perfected, but attempted. Sexual desire in its essence is an attempt at the annihilation of mortality. See Plato Symposium discussion with Diotima about the "erotic ascent." Because Desire is the annihilation of the object, the "object" must be perceived as separable. You don't desire what you already have. Desire requires distance.

Wow, what an amazing video! I just had to reach out and let you know how much your content has been resonating with me lately. For the longest time, desire felt like this huge obstacle in my life, something to be wary of. But thanks to you, I'm starting to see things from a different perspective, one that's really helping me grow.
The timing of your insights couldn't be more perfect! It's like you're speaking directly to what I'm going through. When I did those exercises you suggested, asking myself what I'm afraid of when it comes to desire, I was floored by what I discovered. Fear of god , fear of not entering heaven, fear of so many things I never even realized were holding me back.
So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you! Your videos have become such a valuable part of my journey, and I can't wait to see where this newfound understanding of desire takes me. You're truly making a difference, and I just wanted to express my gratitude. Keep doing what you're doing, because you're touching lives in ways you might not even realize.
Sending you all the love and appreciation in the world!

All that was left (and therefore I guess personally-determined desires) were: Freedom (to do whatever the hell I want) and Time (whenever the hell I want). So I guess I shall be focusing on these then for my life safisfaction! Thank you for the insight.

Many people here are commenting about not their fear of their desires, but their powerlessness in achieving their very desires. In this case, I would say perhaps consider amending your desires to turn them into things that actually do remain within the frame of your own power, then learn to love and embrace those newly revised desires. This takes a heightened level of acceptance with life’s truths as they present to us only when we truly listen. Through this amendment process, however, we will gain not only more empowerment, but more joy of life, as Teal mentions in her conclusion statement. Blessings to all~

I really enjoyed this video, Teal really manages to hit important topics
on the head with a very fresh perspective. Very interesting questions,
to ask yourself, and very interesting etymology... there's some deep
truths that can be discovered in language and how it's creators
understood the world before as much corruption by culture. I really got
into Jiddu Krishnamurti this year, who's body of work took my mediation
practice to new heights. When I looked into my desires I realised that
they never end, and at first that made me nihilistic and I began to
question the nature of free will. "A man may do what he wants, but he
cannot want what he wants", said Schopenhauer, I think that's a good
summary. I recognised that fighting desire is pretty pointless a good
while back, but it's surprising how deep the denial can go! When you
begin to look at what drives and motivates us as human beings, and begin
to be able to separate callings towards something bigger than yourself
from urges rooted in fear, and loss (etc.) that pull you away from the
true path, you really do begin to see life in a different way. Why do we
want the things we want? Does it matter? Does it matter what drives us,
any more than it matters what drives the bees to make honey, or stars
in the sky to keep shining? It just is. When you can accept yourself as
an ongoing process, you can surrender to your own 'cosmic destiny', it's
not confining at all, in fact actually incredibly liberating. Freedom,
literally, is doing what you want to do. Looking at the options
available and then deciding to follow your intuition is exactly that -
living life on your own terms. Even then you can change paths, nobody is
free from trap of going the wrong way in life, it's the human struggle,
plus real winners are more than happy to lose as many times as it
takes. Strength and wisdom can definitely improve your odds. Desire is
beautiful, a guiding life force; pain only comes when you cannot see it
clearly. Sadly most people are very lost in this chaotic world, and you
have to try your best to enter their frame and untangle all the knots
they've gotten themselves into, often wrapping yourself up in the
process. Krishnamurti's technique was perfect for me, but I'd been
thinking about this sort of thing and meditating for many years, to most
people I show it, the idea of just looking without trying to find
anything is simply too easy to cynically disregard. Teal captures it
with excellent articulation, I love her way of describing things.

It also depends on the level of consciousness you have awareness of. If u inhabit the 2nd dimension like most people do u will live in contrast seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. In the 7th dimension the definition of desire has a different energy so you could almost say it is not the same desire as what is felt in the first second or third dimensions of limitation. Donnie Darko was right when he completely destroyed his teacher's philosophical narrative of fear vs love. Fear vs love is too simple and binary to define greater forms of being. In the first dimension of consciousness fear is detrimental but on the 5th dimension it creates an awakening of pleasure that can only be understood when you submit your own desires to a higher power. Therefore fear is one of the most essential emotions as awe and heavenly bliss require fear in combination with other positive emotions. Fear is not the opposite of love unless u are a two dimensional being. When you are in harmony with the universe what you desire in the 3rd dimension becomes manifest in the 7th dimension where you lose everything including your desire. In that sense the 7th dimension of consciousness awareness is where you define selflessness.

      @nephthyz2990 3 года назад +6

Not if you fulfill the desire. But a new desire will pop up after that. Which is what gives life momentum and expansion. As Teal says, even the desire to not have desire is still a desire

    • @addhoc256
      @addhoc256 3 года назад +6

@@nephthyz2990 indeed. I mean: . lets say your desire is to play the guitar, then you get the guitar and you play it. Ok the first months suck then youll be able to play and you enjoy it and you forfilled your desire; however, now you enjoy it even more, you learn more about chords etc more than you could have desired at the start because you didnt know that. So you ecpress your feelings and write songs yourself etc etc. So the desire grows.
Same with relations. Some desires are: you had your fill been thete done that bought the tshirt on to the next. But some desires grow and become a red thread throughout your life or a larger period in your life. Its not always that if you forfill it it dissapears as seems to be the premis of the statement above. To think that a burning overwhelming desire will dissapear when its forfilled it means to me: those types of desires were a projection: once you got it you dont want it anymore. A real intrinsic desire could grow as the fire flares up when the experience feeds you. Maybe there is an undertone in every desire "need to know what that is like" versus "need to Be that": the need to merge that experience and that vibe into my life; not to do but to be. But we only know the difference once we experienced the forfillment of the desire: only then you know if it start to be part of you, or if its a shadow part projection: exposing the way to find your true desire. So either way to follow desires will expand you. / I totally agree with Teal and Im not with the buddist view of finding expansion via denying desire . I dont like that detachment I hear all the time in the yoga school " its about the road not about the destination" I really dont agree: without destination there is no road: the road is all about the destination. If you dont desire you are detached of everything and that to me feels like the opposite of enlightenment: its indifference. Im so glad Teal acknowledges the need to need and is critical of spiritual groups that deny emotional needs and spiritually bypass (her video titled 'spiritual bypassing' is wat got me hooked to her filosophy: finally a guru that puts into words what i was wondering all along: why are my spiritual friends getting shallower and more aloof more disconnected the more they meditate: they use it to flee their problems). I know in my particular case my job is now to feel feelings and merge desires and emotional needs in my life. Some dreams want to become reality but I hope they will stay and add color to my life . Its a dot on the horizon now never getting closer so I need to realize: I am here standing at the dot on the horizon right here, its everywhere and just need to let it in. Work in progress:)

Actually...desires can be fulfilled. I desired to have my own Flower Garden. I started buying seeds and studying different kinds of plants. Later on my grandma and Brother started helping me plant and days after days my flowers were blooming. We watered them, they were expressed to the sunlight and where we live gives off a good balance of temperature. I finally created my garden. I am happy and happy about my garden. Now that I have my garden, I always embrace how beautiful they are and when I sit outside...when the sun sets and its golden hour, I just sit and look at the view. It all gives me a sense of peace and welcoming. I don't get tired of my happiness for my garden. I've had this garden for 3 years now. My desires have been fulfilled so that means I will keep embracing my garden and still be satisfied with it🌺🙏🏽

Thank you so much for sharing the love and wisdom that flows through you so beautifully! 🙏🌀❤️
This is something I definitely needed to hear, as there is one particular desire I've had since childhood (creating and sharing music) that i have always felt is a part of my destiny, but never really believed it was possible due to lack of support and encouragement, and then a lack of confidence in my abilities at turning this gift into something I could share with others.
And as surprising as this was to me when the realisation hit home, it now seems like I have a very real possibility of bringing this into existence and making a career out of it, but with this I now have developed certain fears surrounding achieving this goal, solely because of my circumstances of being a full time single parent to my daughter, and how going into an industry such as this could potentially effect her well-being negatively.
This scares me so much that I've been seriously contemplating whether I should sacrifice this desire for the sake of my daughter's happiness.
I'm starting to realise that other than the more obvious benefits of pursuing this desire, like breaking us out of poverty (although I have little interest in money other than as a means to help support others) one of the most important things I could teach my daughter, is to know her desires, understand them, and then to bring those desires into reality!
Again, thank you Teal Swan for being such a beautiful and incredibly strong soul.
Your courage is truly inspirational! ✨❤️
