    Those humps in the stock oil pan is there so your oil pick up won't suck up air during hard turns and hard accelerations. Also if you change out your oil frequently you don't have to worry about getting out every last drop.

    I like what you have done with your truck. I would suggest building a custom bracket and mounting the fuel filter and water separator higher up in the fender with the bracket mounted to the frame but angled up to place the mount as high as possible for better protection if and when you go off-road. I've torn off long fuel filters that were mounted too low and it's a costly mess to fix. You could have easily taken the bell housing bolt and cut it off a1/4 of an inch and not have modded the new oil pan.

I noticed Honda over the years has used Honda Bond to seal many machined surfaces and now GM has done the same with similar sealants ( hence the oil pan on your Dmax ). I used the Right Stuff on my Nodular Diff covers on my Jeep for a positive seal and because I do water crossings. I like cat I’m a heavy equipment operator by trade and prefer cat over other brands but I’ve never been on the cat filter train like everyone else. We replace cat filters with donaldsons. I worked for years on a portable rock crusher I’m sure you can imagine all the rock dust in the air and we used chevron oil products and Donaldson filters. I have a LMM and that’s all I use. Donaldson has a sweet blue oil filter I use DBL7483 and from what I’ve researched and there’s a pretty good detailed write up on the forums about it it is the best filter for oil for a duramax you get the added capacity and slightly better filtration then cat at a decent price. I also drape shop rags over my front drive line with a pan below and just take the filter off. All the oil goes in the pan and none of it gets on the drive line or anywhere else. Good video tho!

    I like the PPE pans but no way would I put the Cat oil filter on my truck, it’s missing the bypass valve which means you run the risk of restricting oil flow when needed most. Go with the PPE extra deep oil and transmission filters. They both have the bypass valve but give you the extra filtration and increases flow so not only do you reduce the probably of using the bypass but it’s still there if you reach certain pressures.

    • @jordancampbell3723
      @jordancampbell3723  4 года назад +1

      Ive ran the cat filter for about 3 years now and never had or seen any of the issues ppe claims. I had this truck at school in the middle of winter where itd get down to single digits with wind chill. When you started it in the cold the oil pressure was always about the same with the oem filter. You gotta remember the amount of media in the cat and its overall size it can flow and doesn’t need the bypass. Also I believe on the duramax the bypass is built into the filter head as well. The filter one is just an extra safety. Im not a fan of the way ppe has marketed their filter at all. Looks like a great product but i will never use it. Cat has been making filter a hell of a lot longer than ppe.

    • @kenyonnelson7032
      @kenyonnelson7032 4 года назад

      Jordan Campbell there isn’t a bypass valve in the lid it’s a flow back gasket. Have you run an oil analysis on your truck to verify it’s running good. Cat does do one hell of a good job marketing their product but their engines on excavator and our duramax have different requirements. The only difference I see between cat and ppe is the bypass filter and why risk restricting oil flow? You rock their pans yet don’t trust them?
      Not trying to attack you, your truck looks great, love what you’ve done with it and the video you’ve done adding the oil pan is very helpful. Keep on rocking.

    • @jordancampbell3723
      @jordancampbell3723  4 года назад

      Gale banks did a video on the oil filter heads and oil cooler. He said for the 2020s they ditched the bypass valve in the head itself and said thats how the old ones were. I do love ppe products dont get me wrong. I think the filter they came out with is nice it has some perks like the magnet in the bottom. But like i said ive been running it for so long through all weather conditions and never had an issue. Weve done oil analysis as well and even before that this filter does such a noticeable difference in keeping the oil cleaner its worth it to me. I also view it as the filter was designed for a much larger oil capacity and flow so putting it on a smaller engine its not ever gonna get worked that hard. Thats just where i come from but i see your side as well. But to me i just dont really care about the bypass and the bypass can also be a failure point and remain open when its not supposed to.

    • @kenyonnelson7032
      @kenyonnelson7032 4 года назад

      Jordan Campbell hey I was wondering with your PPE oil pan if you noticed a difference is oil quality immediately? For example, after I do my oil change and I drive around the block then check for oil level the oil is already dark. I am wondering if this is from the extra oil left in the pan of stock duramax or if that’s just how the diesel runs.

    • @jordancampbell3723
      @jordancampbell3723  4 года назад

  • @hardass912

    Hey, I just found your channel...nice truck. Inwas thinking about doing this same upgrade on my 16 LML, trans pan/filter also. I've been running the CAT fuel filter since the beginning, no issues. But I am installing a FASS system very, very soon, might have to go with CAT filters for that as well. But question, how did you paint your drive shaft? I really like that. Thanks

      Hey man, thanks i appreciate it. All those upgrades are for sure worth it! With the driveshaft i pressed all the u joints out and had it powdercoated since i needed new u joints. If you dont wanna change u joints you can leave them in and have it painted instead we do that all the time too if the vehicle has low miles.

    U put the rtv on both sides of the gasket. Just lightly smear it with ur finger and clean up the edges and do the same on engine side and clean it up so the gasket is held on the pan with some rtv so it doesn't move, and the gasket surface that mates to engine doesn't have rtv so shit don't fall on it or accidently smear when going in and once u have it up there the rtv on the engine surface will help to also hold it in place while throwing a couple of bolts into it. That's the cleanest best way I've come to do it when possible for the safest, cleanest, best seal possible. And seriously a light coating is all that is needed no reason to put a layer of it that's thick as fuck. All is gonna do is get in and clog up the pickup

    • @jordancampbell3723
      @jordancampbell3723  4 года назад

      Yeah i agree it definitely helps to keep it in place. A lot of times i just get a few bolts started too and you can line it up easy too. Plenty of ways to do it!

    Luv the idea about punching a hole in the oil filter! Always a messy process for me.😟
    Those seconds before oil pressure comes up are always troubling. As we all know, a lot of engine wear happens at startup when metal on metal can happen. Ever considered pulling the FICM fuse and cranking till OP appears? Overkill?

With the oil pressure thing it really isnt to big of a deal for those 5-10 seconds because the engine still is coated with a light amount of oil on all the surfaces until you get that oil pressure back.
