Tristan Carlson wow i just realized i have nearly all machining machines. my moms been buying them in hopes i’ll want to work with them one day. maybe i like to play cod
I love the manufacturer tours, it makes you appreciate the work put into their products and also makes you feel good about your hard earned money spent. You should do tours on wheel manufacturers, show consumers why it may be worth spending more for quality wheels.
do not buy rep wheels. oems like enkei make wheels for auto manufacturers. that means their wheels won't crack if you hit a bump or pothole within reason. this also means they cost more. cheap rep wheels will break on you
I have bought two set of Stoptech BBKs for cars I owned before. Awesome product with reason price. I am thinking about buying another one for the car I just bought. If you are not confident with the brake on your car, just get a BBK. On my previous build, I did everything I could to keep my brake cool on track. But at the end it was totally waste of money. They still overheat like crazy. I should have just bought BBK at first time.
Yeah, in the robotics lab I'm working in I need the help of programmers to help me get the device working since I'm a mechanical engineer, therefore I'm only in charge of the mechanical aspects of the device.
Phantom Driven - Cars, RCs, and Lego Technic you should look into some mechatronics courses. I'm an ME that took the mechatronics concentration path at Cal Poly instead of HVAC or general. First job was with a major CNC machine tool builder, and I got some pretty cool gigs thrown my way because of the additional electronics training I have. HVAC and general will always be in demand, but if that isn't where your interests lie then mechatronics is a great option and there are a ton of opportunities in the field, and they'll only continue to grow.
That guy knows his stuff! Love these tour videos and seeing what goes into making awesome products. Definitely learned something today, thanks for the video!
All brakes calipers have a natural tend to pull outwards when the friction is applied, which is why a company in australia developed a fitting which eliminates that pulling to the outside when brakes are applied and thus longer life for your pads no matter what type of brakes you have, which is bugatti has the system on their cars . :)
FIFTYmil - lol... I was thinking the exact same thing... at least add an arch to the *_”STOP ◎_*_ tech”_ bit on the caliper... a straight line on a curved piece just looks wrong !!!
Awesome video! "Being the simple man that I am, I'm drawn to the largest caliper!" AMEN! lol Had a couple technical questions: -Since the Fr/Rr distribution is important, are the kits sold for all four corners (wouldn't adding bigger front brakes offset the Fr/Rr %?) -Would have been neat to hear Greg's explanation on: number of piston used vs piston area vs amount of brake fluid used. Cheers for a neat mini documentary!
I loved the content; it was well presented and interesting although way above my intellectual pay scale. However, I know that it's juvenile but I snickered during the whole early parts of the video...I mean, who wouldn't like to be able to put "PhD of Friction" at the bottom or top of any document? Or, a t-shirt saying "Friction Lab Technician"?? Also, I LOVED the blue on the caliper they checked out on the line. Kinda close to Ecurie Ecosse blue but with no metallic. COOL!
as someone in first year of mechanical engineering this is super educational for me. I was able to follow along with what he was saying because he did an amazing job of explaining everything. Great video!
that concept of the two piece caliper bolted together being better than monobloc was also confirmed by Christian von Koenigsegg in his video talking about why they chose 2-piece calipers for the Regera
abe frohman Awesome comment bro.... And I have been there, and looped my supra off the track into the grass. Thankfully no walls near me when it happened.
Metal composition of calliper is paramount. Is why the Ti / Li alloy brembo callipers used in MotoGP are insanely expensive. Maybe even more important than the 1 piece/2 piece factor.
Well done Speed Academy! I feel like I've just been on an adult version of a school class trip - only it was where I wanted to go and I didn't need a permission slip!
Stoptech kits are fantastic! I've used them for years on my street/track car along with my race car. VERY easy to change pads too. Great product and have NEVER had any issues, even during 12 hour endurance races.
Stop tech is one of the few manufacturers who cares enough to put a dust/rain seal into their caliper assemblies....Wxxxxxd and Bxxr....don't have the dust/rain seal exposing their hydraulic seal to road/brake grime and the increased possibilities of FAILURE!
I wasn't much of a fan of Stoptech products until I saw this video and all the r&d that goes into their products. Now I'm torn between a set of Spoon calipers+giro disc rotors vs a Stoptech bbk. Thanks for the indecision Speed Academy! 😄
ayowser01 spoon name alone add $$$ to cost since they are based from japan and spoon uses nissen calipers , i chose stoptech over spoon due to it made here in the usa which if i need rebuild parts, pads, hardware i would contact stoptech and get my parts in no time . Spoon calipers are good but cant justify for the jdm name price tag
StopTech is garbage. Even the marketing department cant admit their product is superior, LOL. "StopTech adheres to produce one of the best big brake kits on the market." These brakes are known to fail. I stopped selling all APC Auto Tech products because they are a garbage brand.
After all this amazing content you provide for us, you guys should have millions of subscibers. This channel is just a huge inspiration to get my build going on and also improving my driving skills. I'll give it a nice 5/7.
One of the best tours ever! i could listen to Greg all day! Super knowledgeable and easy to listen to. Thanks for posting this....the want is strong for a Trophy kit for the FD !!!!!
That was super informative. Now I see why they're priced the way they are. For months now I've been trying to figure out which BBK to go for and now I know.
Just curious, why couldn't you look at the chief engineer when you going over spider graphs? Just curious of the video process, looks like you were looking at someone/thing else.
He's a great bullshitter that's for sure!!! He is trying to convince you a bolted 2 piece is stiffer then a molded mono block. I hope none of you believed that pitch!!!! Good God!!!!
Also this company would basically by Oe pads and then upgrade them to suit, like any other MAIN MANUFACTURER of brakes do, they all try to make the best pads based on OE materials used. :) COPY/ COPY/COPY. :)
I like stoptech but saying if a pad is noisy nobody is going want to buy it doesn't make sense to me. many supercar owners put up with ccm brakes squealing and didn't complain
Also every pad make noise the difference is when those noises are heard by the human ear, so basically if you can make a pad which does not make any noises for the human ear to hear it your on a winner, but all dogs will hear you pull up to a driveway, which is the pad noise the car makes when you pull up to a house and they know someone is there. lol :)
Here at BuyBrakes.com, we've been interacting with "teacher" Greg here at StopTech for over 20 years. He's a great example of the quality people behind the brand. I wish their (NC) Miata BBK were street legal in Germany… but installing non-certified brake components is a big no-no here, even just using their (also non-certified) brake pads would mean no insurance coverage in a crash >.
The guy doing the interview is. More interested in something behind the spider guy! Maybe he’s looking into a mirror? Can’t stop looking at himself! Yeah, right, mmm hmm, yeah, right, sure, yeah, yup, okay, mmmhmm, yup, yup, yup, yup,
What about dual braking systems? Ie; small, Inboard cast iron rotor and calliper setup connected to wheel hub via shaft and CV joints and BIG carbon rotors inside the wheel? This way the best of both worlds can be retained in terms of stopping power and gyroscopic characteristics.... a temp sensor linked to an electronically controlled proportional valve can direct fluid pressure between the two. (Low speed/low temp sees fluid predominantly sent to inboard rotors and transitions to carbon rotors once ideal operational temps are met and/or under low brake force/low speed braking conditions. That way your weekend car can safely take you through traffic and out to your favourite piece of mountainside road.
Hi there yes I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma is a prerunner and I'm looking for a front and rear brakes was modification of a rear brakes break pads on the rear and I'm and looking for the rear and front brakes if you have any questions or you have anything that you have at the same vehicle or similar mind which is have already at the front brakes and the caliper as well I'm just looking for the for the brakes only okay if you get it.. So it's been modification on the rear he was a drums right and now you have the calipers in the slide in with the whole rotors.. So at this point I just need the front brakes pads in the rear brake pads too so if you have this pads on stock or if you have the place where I can go get them or to order put a real note on the and I will look at it thank you so much have a great day God bless you in any way in any way you at thank you
Would buy pads that make my car sound like a train slamming the brakes. As long as the dust doesn't corrode on my wheels. I would trade the noise for stopping power. But, corrosion is a big no-no.
WOW the dude called the retention spring a Squeal indicator, dude don't do another one of these until you bone up on car part nomenclature. Remember kids the guys who are making the big bucks are the clean ones and work in air conditioned offices.
so if I decide to buy a BBK from stoptech how can I be guaranteed it won't be made in China???? I bought some stoptech rotors a while back and they were made in china.

On my third vehicle (Si, Tsx, 4Runner) running StopTech Street pads for spirited and daily driving. Love the bite and brake feel I get from them. A very positive feel giving you confidence in breaking. They are a bit dusty but that is expected from a more aggressive pad. It's great to see where/how they are made and the faces behind the company.
I'd like to know what he thinks about stoping with a loaded trailer. what do I pick then? I need big enough brakes to stop with a trailer but what happens when I'm not loaded?
some idiot was complaining his iron calipers rust & it should be aluminum like oem. thing is, most oem use iron. only high end cars and large vehicles use aluminum
That's one clean shop. I loved that the fan in the backround at 12:00 had their logo on the blades. Most of the time those shop fans have a thick layer of oily gunk on the blades.
This is an incredibly informative video. I have new respect to what goes into development and manufacture...its no wonder these kits are 2000+ at the minimum. Money well spent. I'm done trying to piece together a budget kit.
You really need to find your place as a teacher or a promoter. I honestly felt like you were sponsoring these guys product not teaching us about the product. All I learnt was patents made by StopTech. All those elements and not one bit of info and what some of them where. Certain areas where rushed and others took to long. Keep up the good effort tho.
I put a set of StopTech rotors and pads, as well as steel braided lines, on my MR2. they are great and made a huge improvement over stock. I did not go for a big brake kit as I do not do a lot of track days and I had thought about the weight as well. This was a very cool video to watch.
DUDE! Greg is so informative you can tell he loves his job. He is a WEALTH of information. This guy would be great as a "TECH TALK" spokesman for Stop Tech. I really enjoyed his piece.
not a scientist over here but he claims their 2-piece is equal to a monobloc's performance for weight. is this really possible? it seems like adding a pile of steel bolts will weigh more than the aluminum (or beryllium if you're valentino rossi) that would normally constitute a monobloc and the real savings is in less/easier machining? thank you very much for the tour, very cool to see what you're doing!
good products from stoptech for sure. BUT the discussion of the monoblock vs split caliper is just not true. There is a reason F1 and top race cars ( Ferrari, Porsche , etc. ) use monoblock. They are stiffer !!!! But very difficult to machine. The split caliper is much cheaper to produce and the main reason they are more common.
Aluminum losses 20-30% of its strength at operational/race temperatures. Steel/steel bolts will actually gain strength. F1 monoblock calipers use expensive aluminum alloys that mitigate the strength issues and without bolts allows for very specific shapes to fit in compact spaces where convective cooling is important, weight savings are there too (minor), that is why F1 teams go that route. Stiffness is a material property not a characteristic of caliper design philosophy mono vs. 2pc - strength is everything for consistent pedal modulation and best lap times. 2pc calipers are the best value systems. If you can justify the cost for the minor weight and space savings then get mono.
Question: How does StopTech know their 2-piece caliper is stiffer than a monoblock caliper of the same mass? (Note the word used during the interview was "mass.")Answer: They tested 2 calipers of nearly the same mass by pressurizing them and then measured the deflection in the space between the inside and outside brake pad cavities. Why? This is sort of answered in the interview. The steel fasteners are responsible for both applying the clamping force between the 2 halves of the 2-piece calipers, and adding a bend resistance, aka the beam principle.
Damn, that StopTech guide surely knows his stuff. He should be a teacher :D
He's the general manager lol
brake yoda
He is a damn good communicator.
There's a life pro tip here. You can't just be smart, you have to be able to communicate to other people if you want to move up the ladder.
He is doing thing a certain way. 👨⚕️📚
That quick change bridge is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while
"Right, Yeah, Okay"

LOL why you gotta hate on me like that? I'm old and senile and probably sterile. Go easy!
LOL.
what were you looking out during the graph about the pads haha?
Right, yeah, okay. ;D
hhahahahh Right :)
I love these tours of the big name companies. As an engineering student it is really cool to get an inside look into their facilities.
Tristan Carlson wow i just realized i have nearly all machining machines. my moms been buying them in hopes i’ll want to work with them one day. maybe

Great idea. Definitely something we'd like to do.
Speed Academy do HRE!
I believe the DRIVE channel did a HRE tour about a year ago. A part of their Engineering playlist I if remember correctly.
do not buy rep wheels. oems like enkei make wheels for auto manufacturers. that means their wheels won't crack if you hit a bump or pothole within reason. this also means they cost more. cheap rep wheels will break on you

I fucking love Engineers.
As a software developer, what they do is very inspiring to me.
sieve5 system administrator what you do is inspiring.
sieve5 software developers are generally also engineers
Love you guys take care haha.

I like how the calipers are made and balanced to the car so you dont need a proportioning valve
Stoptech is awesome. I wish their logo was just as awesome doe...
Haha, graphic artist complaint :D
FIFTYmil - lol... I was thinking the exact same thing... at least add an arch to the *_”STOP ◎_*_ tech”_ bit on the caliper... a straight line on a curved piece just looks wrong !!!
@@grendelum lol, i actually agree with you, compared to others it just looks plain
I was thinking exactly the same thing. Their logo doesn’t translate their gangsterness.
I kinda like the straight forward design of the logo
Man Mr. Wu is the man! He knows whats good.
Woo, there it is!
Awesome video! "Being the simple man that I am, I'm drawn to the largest caliper!" AMEN! lol

he really dumbed it down haha
Best explanation 101 ever! Great job!
Great video guys! Coincidentally I actually installed my Stoptech BBK on my s2000 last night
Nice! We're officially jealous :D
De Kay Speaking as a man who's had Stoptech breaks for the last 3 years I must say, I hope you're ready to clean your rims.... a lot.
This video made me a subscriber
that concept of the two piece caliper bolted together being better than monobloc was also confirmed by Christian von Koenigsegg in his video talking about why they chose 2-piece calipers for the Regera
I want to buy StopTech brakes now
Stop Tech for those times your delusions of grandeur write checks your skill level at the track can't cash.
hahaha brilliant
abe frohman Awesome comment bro.... And I have been there, and looped my supra off the track into the grass. Thankfully no walls near me when it happened.
in my defense ! i want them cuz the oem brakes keep getting warped with my racing pads hahaha
Ya bro stoptech brakes and gold wheels on red camaro automatically makes me a bigger man even though I just daily my car.
Just Subscribed, But I think I'll stick with Brembo. Although because of this video, I am considering StopTech more! Great stuff guys!
Metal composition of calliper is paramount. Is why the Ti / Li alloy brembo callipers used in MotoGP are insanely expensive. Maybe even more important than the 1 piece/2 piece factor.

Go to IAG and get the details of their subaru 2.5l extreme stage 4 shortblock! PLEASE
I have 1999 GMC Yukon Denali i been having trouble finding what kind of up grade it has

Ive never understood the point of breaks, Ive always found putting the car into 2nd while doing 120 slows you down really fast
Stoptech has convince me to buy their products!
You guys are going legit
Awesome.
R&D Quality is very good.
After all this amazing content you provide for us, you guys should have millions of subscibers. This channel is just a huge inspiration to get my build going on and also improving my driving skills. I'll give it a nice 5/7.
Yes! 5/7! Thanks for the kind words and the vote of confidence :D

Thanks!
Could listen to Mr Woo all day!! Awesome video and more factory tours please!
I find it amazing how much industry there is in urban areas in Socal. I work at a forging facility a couple miles down the road from these guys.
Love these kinds of vids. Seeing the engineering work that goes into products gives people a greater appreciation for them!
Just curious, why couldn't you look at the chief engineer when you going over spider graphs? Just curious of the video process, looks like you were looking at someone/thing else.
He was too good looking for Dave and was setting off his gay instincts lol
His hair was too epic for me to gaze upon. As a bald man, that head of hair was deeply intimidating!
lmao, love your response. And I feel your pain.
Stoptech, the only brand that delivers you new trophy race caliper that leaks. Incorrectly mounted piston seal !! and no goodwill gesture...
You are going to outgrow RUclips in no time
He's a great bullshitter that's for sure!!! He is trying to convince you a bolted 2 piece is stiffer then a molded mono block. I hope none of you believed that pitch!!!! Good God!!!!
The tour guide guy makes this like a cooking show but with MASSIVE BRAKES instead of souflet.
Also this company would basically by Oe pads and then upgrade them to suit, like any other MAIN MANUFACTURER of brakes do, they all try to make the best pads based on OE materials used. :) COPY/ COPY/COPY. :)
Love stop tech brakes. Great quality and affordable
These factory visits are adding tremendous value to an already great car channel. But tell me, Pete y u no factory?
My next brake parts are coming from stop tech
I like stoptech but saying if a pad is noisy nobody is going want to buy it doesn't make sense to me. many supercar owners put up with ccm brakes squealing and didn't complain
Also every pad make noise the difference is when those noises are heard by the human ear, so basically if you can make a pad which does not make any noises for the human ear to hear it your on a winner, but all dogs will hear you pull up to a driveway, which is the pad noise the car makes when you pull up to a house and they know someone is there. lol :)

that asian guy would be a great teacher. the way how he explains stuff is great.
This is awesome! Great job I'm definitely looking into stop tech after seeing the knowledgeable staff and precise manufacturing.
$4k tho......
After watching this video I am considering buying my first brake kit from Stop Tech. 👍👍👍👍👍

The top level Mustang tuners speak highly of StopTech so that's worth something. Their products are pricey but I'm assuming the value is there.
I bought some stoptech rotors a while back and they were made in china.
so if I decide to buy a BBK from stoptech how can I be guaranteed it won't be made in China???? I bought some stoptech rotors a while back and they were made in china.
And just like that, the one piece Brembo forged Monoblock caliper mystique gets got.....
They don't make anything for my car as far as calipers or brackets. I stayed in my family and found larger brackets and rotors. Keeps it cheap!
On my third vehicle (Si, Tsx, 4Runner) running StopTech Street pads for spirited and daily driving. Love the bite and brake feel I get from them. A very positive feel giving you confidence in breaking. They are a bit dusty but that is expected from a more aggressive pad. They should come up with a better name for their company. Stoptech just sounds like an off brand Chinese name.
save maintenance confusions. match OE rotor size and upgraded caliper still retains OE brake pad size.
So really, enthusiasts should be buying and fitting 'best' brake-kits, rather than 'big' brake-kits!
I'd like to know what he thinks about stoping with a loaded trailer. what do I pick then? I need big enough brakes to stop with a trailer but what happens when I'm not loaded?
too bad..its just too pricey unless your regularly tracking the car,...you can get by custom made ones
some idiot was complaining his iron calipers rust & it should be

I could listen to the Asian guy all day long. Perfect explanation. Great ad for the company.
It’s a shame they won’t make a BBK for my Taurus SHO.
Great video. But some questions he asked just made me think he is not a car guy. Not sure if he this is the first video i watch but yeah great video
Wish they still had good customer service. I can't get a response and there's a 6 month lead time just to get rotors
I wonder where the forgings are done. I am sure these are not billet. It does not appear they are done in this California facility.
That's one clean shop. I loved that the fan in the backround at 12:00 had their logo on the blades. Most of the time those shop fans have a thick layer of oily gunk on the blades.
they know what theyre doing obviously, a filthy fan is a useless fan. gotta have a working fan to make sure shit isnt in the air killing everyone lmao
StopTech guy is a scientist, he said coefficient of friction is 'mu'...damn...
This is an incredibly informative video. I have new respect to what goes into development and manufacture...its no wonder these kits are 2000+ at the minimum. Money well spent. I'm done trying to piece together a budget kit.
Great video and very informative. Who are the 22 asshats who gave it a thumbs down???
This video helped me to decide on which brand I should choose. I'll go for StopTech
What an excellent teacher! Where was this guy when i was in school?
Yes safety it’s not all about power and speed it’s also about safety
Awesome video, but also very far beyond my intellectual level with all of the elements being combined and pressed haha
You really need to find your place as a teacher or a promoter. I honestly felt like you were sponsoring these guys product not teaching us about the product. WILWOODS...😎👊🏻
good products from stoptech for sure.

Amazing the process!! Makes me understand why some parts are so expensive. There is so much invovled to what companies do.
the removable bridge is definitely the best feature for guys who track and DD their cars!
Could they not do a mono block and put steel fasteners through it to strengthen it?
Wow, I'm impressed! Suddenly the price of ST BBKs seems very reasonable.
Swapping pads isn't that simple. You'd have to press each piston back in to install your track pads.
