That's a fantastic and accurate quote.
It could be the subtitle of the chapter of my life where I installed a rigid no contact regime to remove myself from the long-term abuse of my Narcissist sister.
My father manipulated and coerced me into going back to her abuse, because his self-esteem is riding on the myth of having the 'perfect family', and I was ruining it (apparently).
I refused.
God told me that I needed to remove myself, and he gave me peace about that decision.
Im not going to settle for less than i deserve. I will no longer entertain jokers, weakness, foolishness,and grown boys. I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me im learning, focusing,healing and growing to make better decisions. My dad always tolded me and my sister go to school get good education study the bible get a good job and have a family provide and take care for myself and dont depend on no man to take care of me. I don't depend on no man only God will really take of me. Thank you Dad for taking care of me and my sister. I love and miss my dad. I was a virgin at age 33 when I got married. But I was naive. My father was alcoholic and could not give guidance like this. I am divorced now from mentally abusive narcissistic man who used my inexperience to his advance. Mr. Blake’s, I am happy to learn what you teach now in age of 50. I listen to these lectures to truly understand who I am and to show that I can overcome painful past with resilience because that is how my Heavenly Father created me! When I found out I got housing I told myself I was going to go back and try and finish and get my RN degree. I was working as a medical assistant but knew I wanted to become a nurse but wasn’t able for awhile because of housing and not being able to afford to go back to school. Once I got my housing I finished the last two pre-reqs for nursing I had left off in 2012 when I got pregnant and had to stop due to health issues. It took 1 year for me to get into a program after finishing and now I graduate December and I finished my 5 year goal of using housing in 4 years. I always tell myself women who have these opportunities need to jump on it because it won’t last forever

That’s the spiritual side. On the psychological side, I learned that a lot of my “outbursts” were actually PTSD episodes from all the years of emotional abuse.

Since I kicked my abusers out of my life, I am healing and seeing myself react in anger less and less. The real me is a very patient and kind person. And I’m seeing myself acting in evidence of that true interior character quality more and more.

Man, you said a mouth full. When my children left, they thought I would fall apart but I didn't because I knew the importance of keeping my own goals and activities outside of them. I have a girlfriend now going through a depression cause her third daughter left the house. You're absolutely right, that is our job to raise them and let them fly not hold them hostage.
I just tried to hug my boyfriend of 18 months about an hour ago and he slapped me so hard that I saw a light and my neck turned at an unnatural angle. I need to hear all of these words. i remember when my father gave me one of his father to daughter "talks" some years ago when I was a teenager. He is a man of God through and through. he told me that he's not gonna be around to protect me forever, so he taught me self defense, and one of them is *self-preservation*, and *not accepting less of what I'm willing to work for*, and that *intelligence must be added with kindness* and it takes a lot of *discipline*. He just recently passed away from lung cancer, but this takes me back to that moment. Thank you for reminding us young women and men the work we must put in ourselves to be a better human beings that takes up space in our community, our society, and in the relationships that we allow to form in our lives.
Yes your father will always be with you with his teachings! My father passed away in November 2020 and it hurts so much but I will always remember his words and wisdom something that will never leave me. May your heart heal from this loss ❤️
