- 2021 Litchfield Toyota GR Yaris Review. Is this 300hp pocket rocket really that good?
With all the controversy around this little GR Yaris tuned by Litchfield we wanted to see what all the fuss was about. We took the GR Yaris in freezing conditions on twisty, bumpy Cotswold roads to see if the modification done by Litchfield have made it worth all the coverage it has been receiving.

Such an underrated channel, another great review keep up the outstanding work. 👍
Thank you sir! 🙏🏻
You should have asked Mr JWW.......for a comparison, as his cars still on standard suspension 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 and will be for some time I imagine!
@@Motorflix 😂😂😂😂😂👍🏻 let’s hope so, he has probably canvassed Gaz, Bilstein, KW, Koni, H&R and anyone else he can think of by now
He must be doing something as he hasn’t been on his social media 🤣🤣
Ohhh burrrrn
Catching up on your videos. Firstly you deserve way more subscribers and secondly thank you for being honest about the GR, lots of reviewers are just too scared to say a bad word. Amazing car and great review.
O Great, I am working on that all the time RUclips doesn't seem to send people to the smaller channels so it takes a little time to really get going. So I shall plug away and keep making films and hopefully will get there soon. It had it's flaws for sure, but is a proper hoot to drive. Loads of money but they are holding really well as well.
Thanks for not charging me to watch this upload Motorfix 🤣 Great upload 👍
You are more than welcome!! I will ask Toyota for £1 million 🧐
@@Motorflix 🤣👍
I had to look a few times at your Subscribers.... come on RUclips, this is 'content', let people see it!
Awesome solid review. Mine arrives in a couple of weeks 😎👌
Haha thank you!
I hope they see this!! If they don’t they should look harder! Brilliant, enjoy it! 👍🏻👍🏻
Great reviews to date - really excellent. Could I ask that you review the lotus Elise Final Edition 240 Please??
Will see what we can do! 👍🏻
How much time have you spent behind the wheel of a GRRR with either the CP suspension or standard suspension? Everything you said about the Nitron setup echos everything that’s good about the CP setup so a comparison between the two would superb.
I'd love a go in one of these, quite a bit different than my 20 year old Toyota Crown VX. What a breath of fresh air compared to all the SUVS. I imagine owners will be keeping these for a good while, I'd take this over any equivalent German car. You get to enjoy it without worrying about breaking it
Gearbox is good once you get used to it. It’s the clutch and it’s on off high biting point that takes a bit of getting used to, brilliant car though.
Very nice.
As a request, can you try and get a lotus cup 250 on the channel?
I can try! We have not had a Lotus on the channel yet. It might be in the spring but will see what we can do!
*08:07* The exhaust sounds brilliant *?*
It’s almost completely silent..
Sounded good where I was sitting 😂
@@Motorflix You know as well as I do that, that noise is not from the exhaust 🔊 😂
@@LRS7B that I will not disagree with 😂😂
I want one of these, what a great little car.
Yes, highly recommended.. bought one, tested and reviewed in Sydney 👍
Enjoy it 👍
Great review👊💪
Like the sarcy dig at the end.
Probably because I'm from Litchfield Connecticut but I WANT ONE OF THESE!
Brilliant review
Thank you! 👍🏻
Shame you won't get to test the JWWLichfield version and none of us will get a chance to buy it. Not.
😂😂😂 I know I am gutted! 😂😂
Please try and review their M2 with their suspension too. So much want for GR yaris
Judging on everything they get their hands on it will be excellent! 😂
Great to see people taking an interest in Litchfield products, I hope while they crack the ECU they also find a way to switch the painful lane assist of permanently, not each time you get in and start up. That is a show stopper for a real driver/ even modest drivers each time they pass a cyclist.
Don’t get me started on Lane assist! It bonged at me so many times! Wasn’t as bad as the S3 from a couple of weeks back though! Drives me mad!!!!
Press button on start up. No big deal.
@ 7:31 looks like the car got a bit of air!,.. and also your bum off the seat!
I wonder if that Litchfield/Nitron kit suspension setting on compression & rebound and especially on the "suspension travel" (e.g. maybe significantly shortened as a result of the 40mm drop in ride height) is biased quite a bit more for track/circuit than for roads.
That 'fly' could end up in a disaster if the bump/crest is on a slight bend.
There is a particularly bad bump in that road that does it with all cars. The Nitron dealt with it surprisingly well. It unsettles most cars to be fair. This one no more than most (sports cars that is).
@@Motorflix ah,..many thanks for letting me know, much appreciated. Might still consider this Nitron kit then.
Cheers.
Oh, great vid/presentation by the way,. keep them coming. 😉
That was spot on 50K the double of JWW, nice one for bringing this shameful matter 👏
Go big or go home 🤪🤪🤪
easy to say go get the mod done, but if it invalidates your 5 years warranty, well I cant see 30HP being worth that..... ?
I suppose that is what everyone has to weigh up. 🤷🏻♂️ I see your point.
😊Not being picky, torque is measured in lbs/ft.
ft/lbs is something else. Lots love😘
I am very dyslexic 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤪
@@Motorflix 😊😊noo worries, just a bug bear of mine. ft/lbs is a unit of work👍👍
@@mattclarke6773 make sure you sub and watch the next one I shall see if I can convince my dyslexia to say it right! 🙄😂
@@Motorflix OK, I'll hold you to it. 😆
Weight/length it's easy👍
Isnt it force times distace: Nm
The US never gets anything cool!! I really want one of these
So the question, would I regret trading my Caterham 420R for a GR Yaris , you have driven both, what’s your opinion please
P.S I love the channel great content 👍
They are very different. 420r is a LOT faster and more raw, but the GR is very fun also and point a to b still very quick.
What I would say is see if you can get an extended test drive somewhere.
If you need something more usable but still fun the GR is great, but it will never give the raw thrill of the caterham.
Glad you like the channel!! 👍🏻👍🏻
@@Motorflix many thanks for your reply, definitely food for thought, love your channel great content 👍
Might advertise a kidney to purchase the GR Yaris 🤔😂
Seems like legit man maths to me 😂😂
😂👍 have a great week, I’m looking forward to seeing what your up to next
Hey.isnt the white one suspension development car.black one is tuned
Yes but they had taken the tune from the black car and put it on the white one too now! 👍🏻
Mine is due in March/April and I'm having second thoughts... What is wrong with me?
WHAT! Why? Don’t be silly! Haha
Dont do anything stupid - nothing even comes close to it for under 50k
Ha ha, I must be crazy! Post Covid it will be my daily of 40-50 miles a day, so mainly trying to justify the cost Vs benefits. It will replace an old but very practical (and much loved) Civic Type R.
I have one due in June and have zero regrets, can't wait to have fun in this boring world, likely to get a lot more boring if we let these clowns take us into socialism, they might ban these cars LOL
if you choose not to go ahead, buy some precious metals esp. silver its way under priced to gold. you might be able to buy two in a year
@@fn2_gr it's good on fuel if you can avoid wacky races at every set of lights
Apologies for the slip of the tongue. The car sits 40mm lower on the Nitron Suspension kit not 14mm.
Controversial how ? to look at ? from what ive seen all driving based reviews have been positive
@@rtorbs not the GR as a whole. What has been happening in the press about this particular car this week! 👍🏻
@@Motorflix ah kk.....you clearly caught me napping as I've missed all this lol
@@Motorflix Why focus on 1 stupid person? It will only make you more stupid.
I ordered one a month ago due november.but Toyota sent me a model of one as a gift this week.nice touch.
What do you mean?? You can absolutely daily this car.
100% you can. I mean if I bought it I’d want to keep it special by not using it as my daily. 👍🏻
super hatchback for me
As I understand it the drop is not 14mm its 40mm
Do I say 14mm?? I meant 40mm that is annoying I didn’t even notice that in the edit! Apologies and well spotted! 🙄
@@Motorflix sure sounds like 14mm 😀
@@relentlesspursuit6894 may well have been a slip of the tongue!! Really annoying as I pride myself on not getting stuff like that wrong!!
@@Motorflix easily done, so many numbers to remember these days!
Haha you have no idea!! New numbers everyday, and millions of people ready to trip me up! (Not saying that is what you are doing but some are!) silly slip all the same!
🔥🔥👌👌
14mm lower is it?
Mode changes response and noise does it.?
You present well but your facts are all whacked..
40mm slip of the tongue. Apologies! (Thought that is what I heard when Iain was telling me about the car)
Sounded like more induction noise when in race mode to me. 🤷🏻♂️ I know it moves the power round the AWD system too. 70/30 and 50/50 but on twisty UK roads that aren’t closed, you can’t really feel that change. Need a track or closed road for some proper hooliganism. Also I drove the car for about 4 hours......
And you come across as an arroggant arse!
Who does.... me? 😳
Handling on rails and bolt-action gear shift make one too many cliches for me.
What would you prefer? Dull, boring repetitive sayings used in every other video?
But that's two cliches, and they both fit this car perfectly. Coming from an owner.
@@freshjuice9801 glad you agree! 👍🏻👍🏻
@@Motorflix You actually helped me understand best how the shifter feels.
Describes the action and handling perfectly. From another GR owner. Nice review. Am saving my pennies for a Litchfield sortie, now they have also cracked the ecu. A year with stick car has been massive fun, but a tweak will refresh the enjoyment of this wonderful little car.
Yes great to drive, but not perfect, and not the most balanced.
It is over-hyped though, very expensive, low-rent interior, and impractical.
I don't really understand the market for it, because a dedicated sports car for the same money, will be a much better handling and faster machine, and be a MUCH nicer place to sit.
A sports saloon (BMW M car for example), will not be quite as darty but will cover ground just as quick, be much faster in a straight line, be MUCH better quality and much more practical.
I think a lot of people are getting caught up in the hype, and 'think' they really want one, but in reality if they did own one, would get very bored with it very quickly.
I don’t really disagree with any of what you say. When the hype dies I will be interested to see what happens to the prices of them......
I am using it as a bad weather winter car as my other cars cannot be used in this awful UK weather.
@@Motorflix Yes, I think they will depreciate a fair bit, unless they don't sell very well in which case they will hold value simply due to rarity.
I'm no hater, and I do thank Toyota for making cars like this when we are so close to a world where everything 'normal' on the roads will be EV or efficient hybrid, unless you can afford a supercar.
I can only afford to run 1 car, and a couple of years ago with a budget of 20 grand, I wanted something fast, but practical, reliable, and without huge running costs.
I bought a 14,000 mile 2017 M140i as it seemed to be the best option at that price point.
Would I buy a Yaris GR if I had 2 and a half times the budget ?
Nope, there are at least 20 other cars I would buy before I bought a Yaris GR.
@@DjNikGnashers for sure if we get in to what can be bought in the secondhand market for the same money........ then I would buy an F80 M3. There are lots of other options in that price point I would choose over the GR. I do admire the specialness of it though!
Oh dear, there's always one who isn't a real driver enthusiast masquerading as one. I suppose you like soft touch plastics also in a car
I hope I don't get charged for watching this episode 😔
A gift from us to you! 👍🏻
3rd car...🤣...yeah I'm going to park it at my 4th house in Chelsea!
You know why I mean. Your wife’s car, your work car/van, your fun car.......! A toy.
Luckily you are ok though and have plenty of space for more than three having 4 houses 🤪😂😂
@@Motorflix Just joshing. Nice review. I've got a convenience pack on order for December. Think I'm the only person in the UK that's ordered a convenience pack. But I'm going to bring it up to circuit pack over time. The Litchfield suspension seems essential based on the review.
@@Stringwar will be a rare beast!! Which is never a bad thing!!! Jealous you have one coming. ✌🏻
@@Stringwar is it true you don't get the decent stereo with the circuit pack? I have one on order I suppose it is the easiest thing to do something about mine is due December too maybe a whole batch are coming then
@@tonyw2960 Apparently the standard stereo is ok but I wanted the convenience pack stuff for a couple of reasons. You'd be able to add the red calipers for £100. Id probably want the Litchfield suspension eventually. I guess you'd miss the forged wheels as they go look nicer but someone will stick them on eBay at some point but I think I'd like different alloys. I wonder if the Supra's 19s would fit. And you could add the diffs later I would have thought. Plus the diffs add about net 40kg (after deducting the lighter forged wheels) to the standard cars weight.
Still crying in America rn
Thst was 10 minutes I'll never get back
Ok 🤷🏻♂️👍🏻 thanks for the feedback! 😂
What were your expectations?😂
