This was such a perfect video! I know I don't charge much at my beginning stages of caking. I live in such a small town and am friends with everyone and it is so hard to charge for things.
Perfection dear! I've only had my home baking business for 1 year now and have had to change my cake prices twice as I learned how to correctly do everything you just said! I live in a VERY small town but people LOVE my cakes! I'm constantly booked and I do still get the occasional "your cakes are a little spendy". Which suits me just fine. We cant please them all! ;) I've also learned so much from you already so thank you!
Could you please share with me your plain vanilla cake recipe.
Oh my goodness! I started baking and making Custom cakes and EVERYTHING you had said makes me feel so much better! I live in Idaho, and I try to set a good ground RULE for EVERYONE! I did Price off super cheap at first and I loved making cakes.. so I didn't care but to make people happy.. but I was loosing sooo much money... now i charge more and fair. Now that I have something going on, I'm gaining clients. It's so insane and ironic to stumble upon your video ( which i follow all your social medias 💕💕) today and was wondering HOW can I make money without having people think I'm too expensive or too cheap? But I put all my energy in something I enjoy making for others. You just made sence is all I'm saying 😊 THANK YOU
I love this! I used to have a business because everyone kept suggesting that I start one…I loved baking for people. I, however, in the end closed up after a year because I didn’t think the time equaled what I was getting back. I still have ppl reaching out for my cakes even after 5yrs of closing shop. I’m going to sit and try to price all this out and see what comes up. Maybe it will be worth trying again!
This was so helpful! especially the part about trying to undercut other bakers in your area. it really helped me get things into perspective. Thank you so much! may God bless you!
I am so glad I stumble across your blog post and video. I had a small cake business a few years ago and I’m now retired and am going to restart. Pricing your work has always been a scary subject and when I was making cakes, I priced out everything like you said, but did do a spreadsheet. After watching this video it made me know I was doing it right. I to wish you would share the column information on your spreadsheet or a blank copy. Thank you so much for this GREAT information. Signed a new subscriber😊😊❤️
This is simply the BEST video I've watched on cake pricing. I just learnt all my mistakes and hope to improve and make better profits while still happy about the time I put in each baking without feeling like my time is a waste. Thanks so much. I feel like hugging you for this tips you shared. Thanks a bunch. This came at the right time. #hugs#
Loved this !!! I have people tell me all the time I’m the cheapest in my area ands it’s very embarrassing 😪
Same here. 🤫
So is my Lil sis. That's why I'm watching this video with her😂 gotta help her get it right
Yea I ain't feeling bad anymore! We work really hard and sometimes stay up till the crack of dawn trying to finish a project. We're worth it!!!
This is exactly what I needed to know. Thanks for sharing!
This was extremely helpful! Especially that spreadsheet. I’m jumping on making one of those ASAP!
This is exactly what I need now. Thank you so much for sharing, it really helped a lot. ☺️😍More power and God Bless!
Wow! You really got this video. You touched all the parts. Now I know I'm on track.
Wow Chels!! These are really well thought out tips and respectful of the baker themselves, other bakers, family/friends & of course future clients. This really says a lot about who you are as a person and that is great to see , especially these days .. I feel like you have a great system and strong values for youself & what you specialize in 👌🎂💕
Thank you so much for this. Really, REALLY great tips. Started my spreadsheet today as I was listening to you. I laughed when you said, "if no one is telling you you charge too much it's probably because you're not charging enough." LOL I've NEVER had someone tell me it cost too much! 🤦🏽♀️ That changes today! Lesson learned.
Thank you so much Chelsweets. That was valuable advice , i truly appreciate it.
I Live in San Francisco California, and boy did I need this video because I’m just starting out and still have difficulty on pricing. Thank Hutu for this !
thanks for the tips 😊😊 I'm just starting learning and practicing baking and decorating cakes,. and hoping soon to start cake and cupcakes business. 🙏🙏🙏
Hi I really enjoyed this video. It’s so informative and I’m currently kicking myself because I am guilty of undercharging for my baked goods. You are so right in letting friends and family know that you’re only charging them for materials versus what you really charge. I have people that live my goods but have issues paying for them. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard Walmart has this or that for $22.99. My response is generally but it’s not mine I can’t control Walmart’s pricing just as they can’t control mine. I’m good at what I do and clients know that so in the end I win more than I loose but it’s still a headache to convey the work passion love and effort that goes into creating sweet dreams.
Thank you! This was so helpful I appreciate it!
Thank you that was so helpful. If you can tell us anything more that I as a beginner should know it would be great.

People always tell me I charge to little for my cakes thank you for this video it helps me so much
I have a quick question for you. Do you share your spreadsheet or have you already shared it? I’ve been watching your videos for a while now but never thought about searching for it on here.
Thank you!!
That spreadsheet is giving me life !!!❤👌
Nice tips:)
People always tell me I should charge more but I always feel bad 🙈 using this formula and costing time at minimum wage, I just worked out that a cake I sell for around £60 should be sold at around £85!! That’s an insane difference over a few cakes.
Love this ! I have people tell me I don't charge enough , and basically charging cheap! Very embarrassing for me.
Thank you. I just got my first order for a cake and I had no clue what to charge. The spreadsheet you were talking about, is there a chance that you'd make a video on that?
Can you make a video about how to fix common mistakes that happen while baking?
Maybe a I missed it but did you factor in the profit as well? salary is not the same as profit :)
Thanks for this video. I honestly don't know how I would have have gone about this. I'm about to start my business and this is definitely something I should know.

Hey😄,
I’m gonna bake a vanilla cake and I’ve heard I need to freeze it to prevent it from breaking when I frost and assemble it but do I thaw it before frosting it or do I frost it frozen? (It’s a 3 layer cake)
I would really appreciate it if you could help me with this question, thank you✨
hi Angel! you frost your cake frozen! and thaw it before you serve! hope this helped!

How did you move your wedding cake? in a big box ? 📦?? Or how did you do??
I calculated the price for a vanilla cake (2 layer 8 in or 2 layer 9)... Butter, oil, sugar, eggs, vanilla, flour, baking powder & buttermilk... I got a total of $2.52! Does this sound about right? I did it three times and got the same answer... By the way this is just for the cake and frosting
Can you share the spreadsheet
Hi 😅 I don't know why? But I think I have read Literally all you said here in google. I'm just confused. Is that your blog?
How do I make spreadsheet? please help
How much should I charge for a "13×9" honeybun cake?

How do you price vegan cake
Cost of supplies/indirect + hourly rate + 30% markup is what the pricing is in my area for almost all baker goods minus cookies
Please can I get wedding cake recipe
I'd suggest checking what cake decorators earn per hour in your region and not going by minimum wage. Some minimum wages are very low, such as in North Dakota, which is $7.25 an hour. As a beginning cake decorator, I can make at minimum $16 an hour.
How do you figure out how long it takes to make a cake by each step or when the cake is completely done with decorating.?
Have the ingredients gone up in price since 2014, if so, you are not charging enough
My problem is that the products I buy don't have cup measurements on them and I buy them in gram but the recepies use cups🤦♀️its so much work to do the calculations
I’m curious what home bakers pay themselves hourly. 🤔 Anyone know??

Thanks for information I been to your blog and left a comment . I know this video is old but I hope you see it. I was asking if your spreadsheet was available for purchase ? Plz lmk I can Cashapp you if you want to charge . Plz & ty I’m a new baker about to start this as a side hustle
According to this I need to be charging $2,806.50 for my custom cheesecakes...😮😮
I know this comment is really late... but can you go over the spread sheet more? I'm still learning.
Beckysalazar workathome like you bundle with you yourube you bundle
You forgot the profit percentage otherwise it seems like you are paying yourself minimum wage and don't have anything left to put in the bank.
