Awwww poor Leo, not only did he not win, he didn't get a lot of air time too, they just skipped over every time he got to describe his card except for his first card
I love that you guys are putting games out there that alot of people have not heard about. I know I didn't know quite a few of them myself and look forward to trying them. I'd love to see you guys play this one again without the cheating going on because that took out the fun of it. Thank you guys again for all the hard work you put into making these.
I've played Dixit with people of two different languages, and even with a mixed group in their non-native languages. It is amazing and fun every time. There are some oo and ahhh moments where great cards are plan, there is a pure sense of wonder the first few games, but it doesn't get old once you know the cards, as you get new ideas every time you play.
I LOVED this game as soon as I watched this episode back when it first came out. I decided to buy it and take it to work since I worked at a childcare center with elementary age kids. I thought, "ooo sort of like apples to apples with images?" Well, I was younger and didn't realize that younger kids are still very much literal and haven't worked on being subtle. But the game did have bunnies to keep score and they were all enamored with that aspect of the game! Well, it became a crowd favorite and after months of gameplay it was quite noticeable that the ones who played it frequently were developing some nuance and honing their skills at being vague and abstract! I even had to buy a couple of expansions when the kids were getting too good with the existing cards. So thank you Wil and G&S for showing me this wonderful game!
Dixit is one of my favorite games! The editing on this video is BRILLIANT! Just the right amount of time for each round, great expressions and close ups on key moments give such a window into what everyone is thinking even when they're not saying anything. Great video!
Finally got to try Dixit with my brother and mother last night. I knew that my mom would be into it, but my brother was very skeptical. It turned out that they both loved it, and stayed up later than they should have playing it with me! Thanks to Will, Felicia, and TableTop for introducing my family to this unique game.
"The song Beth was trying to sing, was it You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban?" She seemed to be combining You Raise Me Up and the church hymn On Eagles Wings.
Everyone catches later on, but at the beginning of 3:33 she's obviously tunnel-visioning on his hand right before she said "Stop cheating, Wil." Christ, she practically acknowledges she has no confidence in her own skill by cheating so blatantly.
Bought this game for my mom this Mother's day. It was a huge success and we've played it a couple times in the last two weeks. I'd not have known about it had I not seen this show. Thanks!
Also an Odyssey reference. The Iliad focuses on the trojan war while the odyssey starts with it but moves on the the later journey. Both basically begin with the story of Helen.
Maybe they didn't care, I mean it was like 4 years ago that this happened and it's not like it's an Olympic sport or any major thing, it's a geek show where people play board games for fun and really nothing else, if they wanted to ruin the flow or the game, by calling out cheaters, they probably would have, and Wil you can tell knew, but he didn't really care, I mean Wil's got lots o' stuff to do in his life, he can't spend it dicking around about cheaters and I know that sounds bass akwards because this show is about playing games, but consider the fact that at the time it was one of his jobs that he made money off of.
This game is possibly my favorite game i have seen on table top yet. I have had a few friends when say that the game looked lame. but after playing it they really enjoyed and always ask me when we can play again. Season 2 is needed!!!
One of the very few games in my library that wasn't purchased because it was featured on this show, but because a friend introduced me to it. It was a favorite of the kids I used to care for at my old job. We played it so much that I had to eventually buy all the expansions to have more variety. 5-11 year olds tend not to be so vague, so the younger ones would sometimes reuse the older kids clues. Also, we had a house rule that if you knocked down the bunnies, you lose three points. Really interesting playing it with grown ups as it shows you how they think, or the depth of references. Plus I LOVE the artwork. Did I mention I love this game?
I love this game, you really need to know the people you're playing with to be able to give the right hints for just enough of the players to figure it out.
22:54 MASSIVE look at his cards. at my game rounds, people like this are told "hey, you win!" and then they may celebrate their victory somewhere else while the losers play another fair round. Honestly, dixit is such a master piece of a game. The illustrations are just so creative and beautiful. It is a pleasure to just relax and describe a card like "home sweet home" or "emptiness" and just see how others players interpret this message. I really also hate to see, that girl to the left just quotes things all the time. Sure, out of 3 people on or two might understand it and it is highly likely to not get it. But it just ruins the gameplay. It's like if I play with my closest friend and do insiders all the time. But CHEATING at such an awesome game and especially in this very important game winning moment is just a big fauxpax. It's like using a computer while chessing. Is like looking at a book with all the important odds while playing poker. is like using a dictonary while playing scrabble. but f*** all these games, dixit simply doesn't deserve it. i paused the video, but in the end i dont care if she got this last round or not. I am so angry. grrrhhhh. Cheating at dixit. ....
I bought this game for my wife for Christmas. We should get a chance to play this soon (right now I can't get her away from Carcassonne yet). This is a great show. Thanks for reawakening my love of board games. We've collected party games over the last decade, but now I know the really great ones! Thanks Wil and Geek & Sundry!
Why was #1 (a Dollhouse) Peter Pan/Hook? #4 made more sense - the watch for Captain Hook and the ticking aligator, and the stars for Never Never Land ("2nd Star to the right and straight on 'till morning")
You're right, a wendy house is the small (big in comparison to a doll's house) house that kids play in, in the garden. Maybe she was going for that then?
This is my absolute favourite episode of the season so far. Just love this game. Plan to buy it very soon...very soon. If it wasn't for Table Top I would not know about all these games if it wasn't for this show. My friends and I get together now to play boardgames. This show is fantastic, and deserves a second season, and more!
The song is "Up where we belong" song by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes from the '82 film An Officer and a Gentleman. It WAS both a church song AND a top 40 hit. "Lord lift us up where we belong, where the eagles fly on the mountain high" was the line she was thinking of.
19:25 I laughed so hard there from Casey's catfight death glare! Honestly though I loved Beth being on the show. She added a great humor to the show/game and made this an enjoyable episode. And to all the haters, Parker's always been and will be a thief, DEAL WITH IT! Will, please bring her back!!! Btw, check your pocket, Parker probably stole your wallet while you where reading this
You raise me up, to climb the tallest mountains, you raise me up to walk on stormy seas, I am strong, when I am on your shoulders, you raise me up, to more than I can beeeee
The funny thing was i thought "Build me up buttercup" by The Foundations - and the lyric is you build me up to tear me down.... so the tree chopping was perfect. though, evidently not what she intended.
I think she smashed together Josh Groban's "You raise me up" and Bette Midler's "Wind beneath my wings" which would actually make a really inspirational mashup. it probably already exists somewhere on youtube
No way dude. It's "On Eagle's Wings" From the Glory and Praise Hymnal for catholic churches. "And he will raise you up on Eagle's wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the SUUUUUUUN!"
Felicia Day doesn't seem like someone who spends a lot of time in catholic churches singing hymnals, I could be wrong though. I'm gonna go with "Two really popular songs that sound similar" over "song from 1 book that most people have never heard of"
GTaichou Never thought of it, but it totally would! From personal experience I can tell you it is fascinating to play with primary school age kids! You get a glimpse into just how much they have been exposed to, or not. And five and six year olds trying to be vague is just adorable!
Hi, Im an Australian, have been playing it with my girlfriend´s Chilean family. We have been playing the game in Spanish obviously. Its definitely challenging but I feel like a lot of the themes are the same as English.
I just went to Target to buy this as a gift, and there's a sticker on each box saying "as featured on Geek & Sundry". Wow, that's success right there! Congrats, Wil, Felicia, et al.
22:54 infuriates me soo much, I know, it's kinda hypocritical because I've cheated on a board game before... buttt ughhhghjhmgrsjgfchfmd, IT WAS ALL DEPENDING ON THIS CARD WIL PLAYED AND BETH JUST CHEATED...blatantly
Please don't ever think of inviting Beth back, I love your show Wil. It's of my favourite shows, but the Beth figure was just so bad. Starting from her smugness and ending with her cheating, so irritating. The game was amazing, but Beth just ruined the entire experience. Still an amazing show Wil, I just love it.
Yeah she sang the words 'You build me up' as though it were Josh Groban's 'You raise me up' to allude to the eagle, which more likely came to her head from 'wind beneath my wings'
Nope, she said hymn; there's a hymn (and bible passage) that goes "...and he will raise you up, on Eagles wings..." and she mixed it up with Grobans's "You raise me up" which makes sense...
Nine years later, I've finally discovered Charlie the Unicorn. And it bugged me where I've heard that "Heey! Charlie! Chaaarlie!". So I came back here. Now the loop is closed.
This is a great little example of the board game, Dixit. But primarily it is a fascinating example of 2 women slowly growing passively more and more competitive with each other. I found their energy/growing dislike so uncomfortable to watch.
I think that's forgivable, considering Wil and Leo weren't much of a threat in the beginning? Even Leo and Wil mentioned they were gonna start playing Boys vs Girls because the guys were trailing behind. EDIT: I mean to say, since the guys weren't a threat, and Casey and Beth only trailing each other by only 2-3 spaces, who else will they be competitive with, if not with each other?
Helen of Troy actually had little [or nothing] to do with Odysseus. He was in Troy [thought of the whole Trojan horse thing] but his wife waiting for him in Ithaca was Penelope.
Thank you. It was making me crazy every time they said Helen was from the Odyssey or was Odysseus's wife. Of course, Odysseus's wife is Penelope. Helen is from the Iliad. I mean come on they even referenced the Odyssey on Leverage.
Boo, negativity is cancer!! well.... not in general though.... because negativity and creativity can make great changes... but YOUR negativity is cancer.... but I believe you are a nice person anyway Steve... I hope you are well... See you soon Love mo..... ... .. sorry.... Got carried away there... But seriously, be well! :)
+Jan Knold XD That is the most beautiful thing I've ever read But seriously, I apologize if I sounded like a hater. I just don't like when someone can cheat or do something else wrong and get away with it.
Oh I get that... before I read the comments I was looking at that particular second where she looks over.... but she's so damn cute while doing it :) But I get the frustration :)
+Renku Panda She's not just looking. At 22:55, you can see her actively scanning Wil's cards, and paying special attention to the one he's looking at. She won by cheating. I support the yellow flag on that win.
Exactly! I mean, I think it's so hilarious that she did that, because that is SO something Parker would have done, and especially as the show was still airing when this was released... Yeah, she was totally channeling Parker. :)
Ended up buying the game and its expansions because of this video. Such a brilliant social board game that is great for situations to get to know other players and people or try to use inside knowledge and empathy to hope that someone you knows understands what you are saying. Brilliant :)
it seemed like casey wanted the attention and got jealous of beth and wil. the singing clue right after wil was joking with beth about it seemed extremely awkward to me
"Before Hook was Hook, there was this book called Peter Pan" In Hook the whole clap if you believe in fairies was really emphasised, where as Peter Pan it's mentioned like once Hook is like my childhood movie (I'm a teenager)
Honestly, when you're at on the same side as someone it's their job to keep their cards hidden. If you see cards in the corner of your eye you're naturally going to look. It's not like she's leaning back or leaning over to look, his cards are basically right in front of her at that point.
1. She sang Casey's answer out "tiny dancer". 2. She clearly looks at Wil's card and smiles to herself. Others have noticed this and commented on the exact time stamps.
You realize I know this, right? It's French for "Let's go!" I only posted this comment because that is the catch phrase of David Tennant, AKA the Tenth Doctor.
I just want to see this replayed with other people, it's one of my favourite games and the guests are among the dullest in the show ... Not mentioning the beth case ~
"The moment Wil lays the final card down, he flips it over, I know it's Wil's", because I blatantly looked at his hand very obviously right in front of the camera two minutes earlier. ¬_¬
Woah, yes. 22:52 totally missed that first time around
Do you know, what the gamblers say in this situation?
"It's cheating only, if they find out!"
It's your responsibility to cover your cards, not their responsibility to not look at them.

The expression on her face was a critical hit.
BlueSuedeSwede no she just gave a dirty look
Beth mixed up "You raised me up" with "Wind beneath my wings."
+Straddllw there actually is a song with the lyric "raise me up on eagles' wings"
ruclips.net/video/O7FbycDXxXk/видео.html
Yes
I thought of "Love lifts us up where we belong, where eagles cry etc .... "
Btw, check your pocket, Parker probably stole your wallet while you where reading this
Too bad she cheated and looked at wills cards on the last hand
the 00
Parker is a role you idiot. If she steal at the supermarket, the cops won't say "oh look it's parker, it's totally her, lol".
The "Hook" reference was brilliant!!! Excellent choice, Casey!
This games AWESOME! Even the viewers can play along by guessing which card it is. Great episode!
22:55 she cheats and looks at Wil's cards LOL
You raise me up, to climb the tallest mountains, you raise me up to walk on stormy seas, I am strong, when I am on your shoulders, you raise me up, to more than I can beeeee
"You raise me up"- Josh Groban, pretty good song...
Its actually not his song originally but I was wondering if someone would comment on the song
I'm gonna go with "Two really popular songs that sound similar" over "song from 1 book that most people have never heard of"
Ishvallan .Newgate I think you mean Beth. That's not Felicia Day.
Needle Pup
What are you talking about? That's clearly Scarlett Johansson.
LordMoku pahahahahahaha I thought it was Gwyneth Paltrow! hahahaha
This is one of the games I've bought based on TableTop! Yay! Tks Wil Wheaton and Geek and Sundry.
I totally picked up this game, and can't wait to play it with my family. Thanks Wil and company!
This would be interesting to play to practice whatever language is not your native language, or with exchange students.
I went to H.S. with Beth, had theatre with her, awesome girl.
Beth Riesgraf is like Uma Thurman Lite.
I just went to Target to buy this as a gift, and there's a sticker on each box saying "as featured on Geek & Sundry". Wow, that's success right there! Congrats, Wil, Felicia, et al.
i started watching leverage because of this, best consequence of a tabletop ever!!!!!
I had a crush on Beth. I dont know why but i like her random expression and word sometimes, it surprise me.
you are not the only one man.. beth natural character seems like innocent girl.. plus she's super sweet..
Yea, you me and apparently Will too... if I didn't know any better I would say they should get a room.
agreed! i STILL have a crush on Beth. X'D
16:45 i was thinking 4, you know out the window turn right and straight on till morning. (i think that was it)
Wil's voice is almost ASMRific when he's placing those cards.
Every time Will lays the ground rules/distributes cards/tokens etc. it iis ASMR-esque.
HeapOfBones I love the ASMR reference =)
I love Dixit. I now own all three versions plus the one expansion. Its a great party pleaser.
i LOVE the split screen at the end when they said the same thing i thought that was so funny xD
And I believe that's why Casey was glaring at her for most of the video, and I wouldn't blame her.
Good news: five years later and so far as I can tell Beth was never invited again
I think Beth was thinking of " wind beneath my wings"
Yeah she sang the words 'You build me up' as though it were Josh Groban's 'You raise me up' to allude to the eagle, which more likely came to her head from 'wind beneath my wings'
Yes she combined wind beneath my wings and You raise me up by Josh Groban
it was definately Wind beneath my wings, but she use You're raise me up. lol. Beth was kinda funny :-)
HA! Beth totally looking at Wil's hand on the last round. Oh well, good game to all. Very enjoyable to watch and guess the cards.
I felt a lot of tension from Casey's end...
dislike from one end u mean....beth didnt give a shit.
thevllgppl m,
we all know why Beth won @22:53
Helen of Troy actually had little [or nothing] to do with Odysseus. He was in Troy [thought of the whole Trojan horse thing] but his wife waiting for him in Ithaca was Penelope.
Thank you. It was making me crazy every time they said Helen was from the Odyssey or was Odysseus's wife. Of course, Odysseus's wife is Penelope. Helen is from the Iliad.
I mean come on they even referenced the Odyssey on Leverage.
Thank you for this guys! just came to the of my first game with a couple of colleagues... we now have our weekly game at the lunch room!
This is so simple and fun. I love Dixit
22:54
Stinkin cheater. AND she won the game off it, too. How did the editors not catch that and tell Wil?!
Boo, negativity is cancer!!
well.... not in general though.... because negativity and creativity can make great changes... but YOUR negativity is cancer.... but I believe you are a nice person anyway Steve...
I hope you are well...
See you soon
Love mo.....
...
..
sorry....
Got carried away there...
But seriously, be well! :)
+Jan Knold
XD That is the most beautiful thing I've ever read
But seriously, I apologize if I sounded like a hater. I just don't like when someone can cheat or do something else wrong and get away with it.
Oh I get that... before I read the comments I was looking at that particular second where she looks over.... but she's so damn cute while doing it :)
But I get the frustration :)
+AbductedSteve
Just because she looked doesn't mean she saw anything.
+Renku Panda She's not just looking. At 22:55, you can see her actively scanning Wil's cards, and paying special attention to the one he's looking at. She won by cheating. I support the yellow flag on that win.
really want the music playing in the explanation phase (like at 1:50) ;w;
It's Parker. It's what she does.
my thought exactly haha her character is so much her here.
+Nollie Baguio Beth cheating is Parker playing the game the way it should be played. Lol
This was a great play! I just bought this game because of this video. Awesome!
"Genius" Beth got it right.
Wil: "Allons-y!"
Subtitles: [SPEAKING FRENCH]
Shame, RUclips. Shame.
It's not RUclips's fault, it's Geek and Sundry's fault.
Well then shame on them. At least it's used in the right context.
it seemed like casey wanted the attention and got jealous of beth and wil. the singing clue right after wil was joking with beth about it seemed extremely awkward to me
Nate Ford: "Let's go steal a Tabletop win"
Parker: this game haha
I love the episodes with Will Wheaton in it !
22:54 she's a cheater will ;(
"Before Hook was Hook, there was this book called Peter Pan"
In Hook the whole clap if you believe in fairies was really emphasised, where as Peter Pan it's mentioned like once
Hook is like my childhood movie (I'm a teenager)
Not to mention that scene happens with a doll house
Honestly, when you're at on the same side as someone it's their job to keep their cards hidden. If you see cards in the corner of your eye you're naturally going to look. It's not like she's leaning back or leaning over to look, his cards are basically right in front of her at that point.
Responding to a 3 year old comment just to say: NO
i am amazed at how well you manage to describe this episode of table top.
This is a great game play with my family quite a bit. Love the episode :)
Beth you have been caught red handed
Parker! Everybody loves parker!
you raise me up, so i can stand on mountains
I got my mom to buy Dixit Journey and Munchkin tonight for Christmas with family this weekend. I'm really excited.
1. She sang Casey's answer out "tiny dancer". 2. She clearly looks at Wil's card and smiles to herself. Others have noticed this and commented on the exact time stamps.
ALLONS-Y!
David Tennant! XD
Allons-y is French and this is a (mostly) French board game.
You realize I know this, right? It's French for "Let's go!" I only posted this comment because that is the catch phrase of David Tennant, AKA the Tenth Doctor.
he only reason i knew the taxi cab was because my uncle had been the one to find it
I just want to see this replayed with other people, it's one of my favourite games and the guests are among the dullest in the show ... Not mentioning the beth case ~
i liked leo
love the concept for this game. going to pick it up from a local store soon.
I love this episode. More, please!
