I've watched this so many times (TableTop is a great comfort show) and I only just now noticed the pun in Andrew's t-shirt. I also just learned of Andrew's passing. Rest In Peace Andrew and thank you for the fun times in this video.
I've been on sort of a Tabletop watching binge lately. Wil, did you perhaps, at some point, run over Lady Luck's cat or do something equally dire to elicit her fury?
Thanks Wil for this effort. My family has always liked games but your show has given us a new venue for finding games and getting a quick start idea of playing them. It has given us some great family moments this Christmas and I appreciate your contribution to that!
I love that Wil always seems to make a dramatic comeback before defeat. He's a hare's breath, a unicorn's whisper away from victory, and the next turn the person on his right wins.
Thanks for this whole show Wil. Before I joined the Army I played a lot of games with my family and it was a great bonding tool. Now I live so far away from them I obviously don't get to play much anymore. When I found out about this show I loved it from the first episode. This is great at introducing me to games Ive never seen or played before.
This one is so great because you can tell they are all SUPER good friends. This is why I like watching Will with Felicia or Collin from Eureka. People he knows well he jokes so easily with and it's extra funny.
I have been playing this for years! It is good to see you revisting some of the games of old that newer gamers may have missed. ...and saying that made me feel old.
Thanks for making these, they are truly awesome. Its actually inspired me to organize a fortnightly games night with my friends from uni. We don't get to see each other as much as we used to and though we're all nerdy, we'd never thought of getting together to see each other and game! Thanks heaps... I've ordered The Guild addition of Munchkin for our first games night :)
Once again thanks for making these. I can only imagine how much goes into each episode. Thanks to you my friends and I have had hours of fun playing Munchkin and Dixit. Thanks!
I can't explain how happy this show makes me. My friends and I used to pull a pretty regular board game night in the winter, but this year our schedules just haven't matched up. I'm going to have to try to get it going again.
"Man, that table they're playing on looks really nice! I wonder if I can get it somewhere... what's that brand name? Geek Chic? I'll google it... Oh man, they do sell them, and they look AWESOME!! ...and they cost... $3,000... ... ... ctrl-w
When I was in Med school I payed for the first year by being a "research subject" for different pharmaceutical companies in Washington DC. So, I feel your pain Andrew Hackard.
Can I just say that I completely love the way the brick wall behind the gaming table ALWAYS has theme decorations to go with the game you are playing!!! Hooray!
Actually they're just making fun of the bands, like "Go to sleep" is a Michael Jackson cover band... all that "taking medicines to sleep" deal. The Hit Counts, Ike Turner cover band is because he used to hit is wife.
Many "Slackers" of the 80s-90s had cover-bands of famous musicians, hoping to get into the big-leagues. To be cool, back then, the stereotype was that you had to be in a band. The names are just playful jabs at the artists they would cover.
When someone says a joke or phrase that sounds like it could be a band name, the guys are responding with an artist or band that would go with the phrase. For example: 6:45 - "I'm going to go to sleep, my Michael Jackson cover band". Michael Jackson died when he overdosed on propofol (a surgical anesthetic) and benzodiazepines (a downer/sleeping drug). 10:41 - "It's all about hit counts is the name of my Ike Turner cover band". Ike Turner was a famous musician who abused his wife, Tina Turner.
I just want to say that I've never heard about this channel before, or this show, until I saw your interview on TYT. I don't even play board games (I played Small World once a few years ago, that's about it) and I just watched every episode today and I NEED MORE!!!! MAKE A SECOND SEASON PLEASE!!!! Seriously great show, I can't express this enough. I just joined all the local board game meet-ups I could find and I can't wait to play!!!
well... Steve Jackson combine silly humor, references that the majority understand, random chance of winning with fast-paced competitive gameplay that doesn't requires alot of skill. I guess Will like that My only souce of refrence is "Munchkin" and "Chez Geek"
I think Jackson understands that the the majority of gamers prefer casual/light games and that the obsessives/the fanboys are in a minority - highly vocal of course but still a minority - TBH its one of the few games on this series I thought would actually be enjoyable to play - clear objective, simple rules - loks highly replayable - the only thing I would have changed was calling Slack points Nerd points
I don't agree that the majority of gamers prefer casual games, but I do believe that casual games can be a nice quick change of pace in between the more hardcore games. I normally start out with a casual/competitive game to get people fired up, then a "hardcore game" or two, then a casual/co-op game just to cool people off. In most cases no matter what game we bring up, be it casual or not, will there always be borderline fanatic fanboys that think their view of the universe is the only right one. If you change to "Slack" to "Nerd" I think there's quite a few cards you should change, but i could see it to be more enjoyable that way.
Spoony McSoupAlot sorry but you are wrong - sales figures prove that gamers prefer CASUAL or LIGHT games - Even the big sellers within modern games Catane, Ticket To Ride pale in comparison to the older maligned games which are dissed because they are basically light the future of gaming does NOT depend upon hardcore obsessives it depends upon NEW gamers and new gamers rarely are interested in anything other than light/casual games TBH I think its the aspect of modern games that needs to be dropped - more games should be light and abstract with minimal theme - if people are happy to play with the 3 or 4 players who actually know a game because its too niche then fine Back to Jackson - he is very canny and understands you can theme a game to appeal to a broad audience - I can imagine noobs easily getting into Munchkin and Chez Geek because of the cliches/stereotypes used - the game rules are fairly simple too Munchkin in its forms is meant to have sold over 100,000 copies last year - so Jackson must be doing something right
Jack Luminous Firstly I'm confused by saying "modern games like Catan" compared to "older maligned light games" like Munchkin? I mean, Munchkin's pretty old, like, 2001, sure. But Catan was 1995. I was in high school when I got it! We have to own a copy of Munckin for when we have a larger party with some non-gaming friends, and it's also one of those things everybody buys for us because they know "oh hey, they like games, and this one's cthulu themed and I know they like that kind of thing!" Now I have a copy of a Lovecraftian Munchkin sitting on my shelf. Yayyyy... So now everybody owns multiple copies of Munchkin. Doesn't mean they get played. In fact, we don't even play Munchkin at the aforementioned party. I have to have it as an offering. And PAX really pushed the Zombie Dice hardcore years back, and if PA picks up a thing, it's suddenly everywhere. I notice nobody brings out the Zombie Dice or wants to play it now, even at PAX, but we still enjoy Catan. I mean yeah, not everybody is going to play Tzolkin, I get it. If it won any German awards, it's going to be too much for "relaxing fun time" for the vast majority of humanity. But there's a middle ground between Tzolkin's hardcore resource management, and the "we may as well have just rolled a bunch of dice and whoever got the highest wins, oh, except there's tons of king-making, also" which is Steve Jackson games.
Please, please, PLEASE bring Tabletop back for another series! Wil explains the rules so well, and you guys have managed to come up with some extremely interesting guests. Can we pay you money? Maybe a Kickstarter?
So glad you covered this game! Bought it months ago but haven't had a chance to play it. Now at least, I'll know the basics when it comes time to play it!! TableTop Rox.

This was a good episode. I love how the show changes based on who is playing, as much as what game you are playing.

Spoony McSoupAlot sorry but you are wrong - sales figures prove that gamers prefer CASUAL or LIGHT games - Even the big sellers within modern games Catane, Ticket To Ride pale in comparison to the older maligned games which are dissed because they are basically light
the future of gaming does NOT depend upon hardcore obsessives it depends upon NEW gamers and new gamers rarely are interested in anything other than light/casual games
TBH I think its the aspect of modern games that needs to be dropped - more games should be light and abstract with minimal theme - if people are happy to play with the 3 or 4 players who actually know a game because its too niche then fine
Back to Jackson - he is very canny and understands you can theme a game to appeal to a broad audience - I can imagine noobs easily getting into Munchkin and Chez Geek because of the cliches/stereotypes used - the game rules are fairly simple too
Munchkin in its forms is meant to have sold over 100,000 copies last year - so Jackson must be doing something right

While I greatly enjoyed this episode with all the cover band jokes and whatnots...this game looks depressingly bad.
