Great video as always. Best way to oil that filter is to put it in a plastic bag in your hand, spray both sides like you did, then work it in. That way you can use less and get it covered more. A lot of people over oil their filters.
Thanks for the air filter video. It looks so easy. Good job getting the needed sprays together. Now anybody can do it. I saw on FB where someone was asking about oil change so I suggested your oil change video because it's really good. Also, I just changed my rear sprocket so that I could get more top-end speed. The original is a 50 tooth. I swapped it out for a 44 tooth keeping the original front one and removed two links out of the chain. The tech at the yamaha dealer did calculations for me and figured out what % increase I'd get for each sprocket they had, so then I decided 44 would best suit my riding... 95% street. I did it myself because it looked easy to do and it was... Two hours including setting up and cleaning up after. I gained about 10% more mph so now my T can do 70 mph without over-revving, Here in West Vancouver, Canada, that's like 120 km/hr (Metric). The engine was screaming if I pushed it any over 60 mph. Now I can do highway comfortably without topping out The down side is that the TDub jumps around a lot at that speed... Maybe I'll have to add stabilizing spoilers :) right. I did videos of the swap that I posted on FB Thanks again for the videos. Jonny
no problem! it is an easy task and an easy one to forget about haha, hey thanks for suggesting the oil change video, i'm trying to make videos on all the maintenance and repairs for the tw, so people can learn to do it themselves and save a lot of money :) awesome 44 rear sounds great for street only riding! I got a 47 rear and find it great for off road and street use, and can cruze at 55-60 with out reving the heck out of it, the stock gearing is so low I would be in 3rd gear before getting through the stop light haha, don't know how people get it up to 70 with stock gearing without blowing up the engine. haha yeah it's not meant for handleing well at speed, sweet thanks!
Thanks so much for the vids TDubs. I've been watching for a while. Just got a 2018 TW two weeks ago. I've already used some of your tricks. Cheers from Ottawa.
I want to commend you on using latex gloves. I've been wrenching since I was 16 (now 27) and while I didn't really care about protecting my hands while I was younger, I now see the value in using gloves when working with harsh chemicals. It baffles me how some people make fun of others while wearing gloves while wrenching. Anyways, keep up the good work and keep the videos coming!
thanks, gloves are important, those chemicals can also get into your blood stream through your skin. it's kind of like where I work, most of people hardly ever wear their safety glasses but I wear them constantly, just because I value my eyes. in the end people are resposible for their own health and safety. yeah i'm not sure why others care so much about what other people do so much. thanks! ill keep them coming!
You guys are both absolutely right 100%. Working with chemicals is the number one cause of testicular cancer. Pre 1980 the teratoma kind had 98% fatality rate. It killed more young men than war a RTAs together. Post 1980 very treatable if caught early. Check yourselfs guys. Got mine working with all sorts of sh1t including PX9 aircraft preservatives. Great video and tips. Keep em coming.
thank you, i really appreciate you sharing your knowledge! your videos really are priceless man! you're turning into a proper wrench queen and i'm loving it! will grab the pj1 from your affiliate link, thanks for making this work so easy :D
once, again, another good video. simple and to the point. instead of waiting for the filter to dry, you could have another one all clean and dry just waiting to be used. then just oil it and off you go. so you end up alternating your filters. just a thought.
I ran into a guy The other day riding my trials bike over by granby, he had a 2011 tw250. I guess he had it bored out an extra 50 cc. He had l think was a three gallon tank and I also noticed a kick starter. I think it's a pretty cool idea. Even with the jetting and pipe, my tdub sometimes seems like it should have more power. Another great vid, from tdubskid!
that's awesome! I have heard of some people doing that it would be cool to have an extra 50 especially at high altitude, maybe yamaha will make a better tw someday haha, thanks!
I need to do my air filter so bad... Was hitting some steep hils the other day and Tdubs felt like she was lacking a little. Spent all summer hitting dusty roads so I bet thats it.
Hey T-Dub great video buddy,,Man this is something that I have neglected on my bikes I am going to go today (now) and get some cleaner and check mine out thanks for sharing ,,another great video bro ,enjoyed watching ride safe my motorcycle brother ,,,LIKED ( thumbs up )
How many miles do you have on your TW200 so far? Just wondering new to moto world just got a 06 with 4004 miles. wondering how long it might last? Anybody else whats your mileage up to? Thanks man!
its a 1988 but it has not been used in ten years. been sitting in the shed all that time. not sure if someone had the oil pump hooked up to see if it was working. There was about half a cup of oil came out of it. I was wondering if the gasket or oil seal needed to be changed?
ohh gottcha, I would try cleaning it out and then see if it comes back after riding it a bit, there isn't an oil seal or gasket that would keep oil out of the airbox, the only way oil can get in there from the crank case is through crank vent hose, or if the filter was way over oiled, if it's coming from the crank vent the oil was over filed or the rings could be bad. I would just see if it comes back, after cleaning it out
Thanks TDubsKid, I'm guessing that the rings are bad. I am going to do the top end on the bike over the winter and hope that takes care of that. Thanks for the info. I love your video's man
yeah it's a good possibility, does it have a lot of miles? you could always compression test to confirm, nice hope that gets it running really good for ya! no problem thanks! i'm sure ill do engine rebuild videos someday haha
Help! I took my air filter out and it was soaked in oil. Does anyone know what this is?? I think it’s coming from the hose from the transmission to air box
it's supposed to be soaked in oil. have you cleaned and oiled it before? maybe someone over oiled last time it was serviced. is there more oil than usual like pouring out or something? if so then yeah it's most likely from the breather hose, start by checking your oil level, see if it's overfilled, cause that can cause that. you can also clean it up and lightly oil it then recheck after riding a while to confirm if it's coming up from the engine or not if those are not the issues it may be there is too much pressure building up in the crankcase, what's the year and mileage?
it should be good for normal road use, just might not be as good in a lot of dusty conditions, or at least that is what I heard, don't know for sure. there is stiffer springs you can get for the rear
and that airbox seems really restrictive......hmmmmm that is going to impact my decision to get a TW pretty heavily if there is no aftermarket work around

Great video as always. Best way to oil that filter is to put it in a plastic bag in your hand, spray both sides like you did, then work it in. That way you can use less and get it covered more. A lot of people over oil their filters.

As far as cleaning the filter, if your cheap (like me), then you can use dish soap and a sink or hose. it works just as well. Great vid!
You're*
that should work as well!
A good dish soap is also a good degeaser, so good idea. 😎
Im going to clean my air filter now because why not. Thanks for these helpful tutorials which keeps our tdubs doing their thing.
nice haha, and no problem! gotta have some tw support!

good to hear! your welcome. ill keep the videos coming and the tdub rolling 🏍😃
Great video. Just purchased 2016 tw200 with 3600 miles. don't know if previous owner did this, so I am definitely going to check tomorrow.
thanks! and it's a good thing to check. very easy as well

Yeah good thing to check and clean for sure
Used the affiliate link for the air filter. Thanks for the vid!
hey awesome, thanks man! no problem
Good video young man. Thank you
thank you! no problem
Rinsing from the clean (engine) side is a wise choice. Push the debris out the way it came in . Not deeper into the filter material .
Indeed! Less dirt the better
Hey T-Dub
great video buddy,,Man this is something that I have neglected on my bikes
I am going to go today (now) and get some cleaner and check mine out
thanks for sharing ,,another great video bro ,enjoyed watching
ride safe my motorcycle brother ,,,LIKED ( thumbs up )
hey man, yeah it is easy to forget I got kinda behind on mine too it was filthy haha, thanks brotha ride safe as well!
Good vid. Don't own one but now I know the process for a tw200 haha
haha thanks! it is very similar with other bikes that have a foam air filter
Да, вроде всё просто, но тем не менее полезно. Приятно смотреть, как кто-то работает :)
Спасибо! действительно очень простой велосипед
Dish soap works really well!
+Nathan Duckeorth good to know!
What your input on the K n N filters?
people say it doesn't filter dirt out as well as the foam ones but i'm not completely sure about that or how they know
Uni vs hiflo vs stock filter ?
Any oiled foam filter is good, might stay away from K&N filters off road though
@@TDubsKid yes i heard k&n is a risk. Will be going with a performance foam filter 🫡 thanks for your service TDUBKID
wow that is a pretty chincy air filter for a dirt bike, kind of disappointed in that for the TW200, I wonder if there is a better aftermarket?
yeah haha just a peice of foam, it does keep it clean though. there are aftermarket ones
Have you seen the 2018 tee dubs it's brown ish??? Do you like it??
yes! I think it looks awesome! probably my fave tw200 color yet, it looks like that tactical desert color to me
I didn't notice that but it does!!
How many miles do you have on your TW200 so far? Just wondering new to moto world just got a 06 with 4004 miles. wondering how long it might last? Anybody else whats your mileage up to? Thanks man!
I have over 10,400 on my 2014 and still running great! no problem
Good video going to send to my buddy.
hey thanks! hope he finds it useful
Would a pod filter conversion be good or bad for a dual sport motorcycle that will be seeing off road use?
I would probably get dirty more easy
Great video
thank you
So went to change my air filter and oil poured out, how much trouble am I in? What do you think would cause that?
how much oil? is it possible the filter was over oiled? if not it could be coming from your crank case vent. how old is it and how many miles?
its a 1988 but it has not been used in ten years. been sitting in the shed all that time. not sure if someone had the oil pump hooked up to see if it was working. There was about half a cup of oil came out of it. I was wondering if the gasket or oil seal needed to be changed?

I'd use Dawn dish soap or Simple Green before solvent. Will work just as good is easier process and less harmful to you and the environment
thanks for the tip
@@TDubsKid Love your videos and they've helped me a lot on my TW200
thanks! glad to hear they have been helpful
I really like simple green as well. : )
I just sink the filter at 2 stock fuel and ones i clean it i put new fuel whith litle more 2s oil
👍 nice, if it works it works
Help!
I took my air filter out and it was soaked in oil. Does anyone know what this is??

What part of Colorado do you live in. I have family in Greeley.
hey I live in littleton area, nice!
wen i did mine like 2 months ago i found oil on it what dos that men is anything wrong with my engine
it is supposed to have oil on it, that's what helps trap more dirt from getting into your engine
thx god {huh it dos not want to stay on if you leave it for a sec without giving it gas it turns off btw
You reckon getting the K&N air filter is a worthy mod for the TDub?
people say it's not as good at filtering dirt than the foam ones but i'm not sure
aight. what about if it's just normal usage on roads?
also, any good rear suspension mods?
it should be good for normal road use, just might not be as good in a lot of dusty conditions, or at least that is what I heard, don't know for sure. there is stiffer springs you can get for the rear
cool man, do a video if you know of a good mod! Would like to know your thoughts and header pipe heat guards too.
Peace!
will do man! when you say header heat pipe guard do you mean that header wrap stuff? they also have a metal header guard to help protect it as well
and that airbox seems really restrictive......hmmmmm that is going to impact my decision to get a TW pretty heavily if there is no aftermarket work around
you can always remove the airbox and just put a cone filter on, some people take out the snorkel to free up some restriction
Is it legal in your city to pour solvent down the drain? Seems weird.
it's fine
Just realized I should go clean my air filter...
haha yeah I forgot too, until someone asked me if I could make a video
Sorry I was distracted by the Mustang in the garage, what did you say? LOL Please do a video giving us car guys a closer look at that classic Mustang.
haha that is my dads 68 high country special, he loves mustangs, I may have to do that!
I know LOL I've asked you about it before. Please do!
alright my dad will be flattered haha
@@TDubsKid still waiting for that!!!
Спасибо, друг!)
Добро пожаловать!
can i use WD40??
not sure, never tried it
Old sink! That's the same sink I bought two years ago in my basement from Menards. haha
haha nice! it's a great sink for cleaning up the dirty stuff!
That JBWW shirt tho
haha this made me go look at his new shirts
TDubsKid I have a ‘08 TW200. Love the vids man...and JBWW lol
hey awesome! and thanks haha for sure!
