It's always a good idea to use cornstarch baby powder (not talc due to the hazard) on the tube during assembly. This is not always practical in field repairs like in the shop. The baby powder allows the tube to slide in the tire easier during re-assembly, but more importantly it keeps the tube from sticking to the tire. When the tube can move more freely in the tire there is less of a chance of ripping out the valve stem if the tire were to rotate slightly on the rim since the TW does not use rim locks. If you have ever changed a tire and tube that have been together for a long time it can be difficult to remove the tube as it tends to "weld" itself to the tire. Also keeping the valve stem nut loose (or removing it) can let you know if the valve stem gets crooked from the tire slipping on the rim. Also, those Bead Pro tire irons are the greatest ones on the market as you don't need another tool to break the bead. Keep up the great videos.

I just put 5,500km on it this year and only now realizing my TDub is still running factory tires from 1997. Tread is ok too. And no cracking. 😆 🤣 New rubbers on the way including this 244 in 5.10-18. Got about 160 miles on my TDub!!....Rode 15 miles today in the snow, mud, ice, and more mud. Beat my fat old ass up a bit, too!! Love it, runs better everyday!!! Good video, you do nice , clean work.

ive been cruising the internet looking for a replacement for my little smart car for picking up small things without using my giant truck(lease return - they wouldnt let me keep it or i would have. also, cant get another they no longer import) so was thinking scooter... then i found this thing. must say your videos are extremely helpful! i was afraid of watching motorcycle videos because i dont have the best impression of, "motorcycle people" but your videos showed me that not all 2 wheel folks are drugged out grizzly bear wannabees on harleys. what i got from this video is this: take the new wheel and the bike to the dealer. bring credit card and paperback book. yep. i dont have these tools.
oh nice! this would be a great bike indeed as long as you don't need to go over 55mph, you can get 70-90mpg and can haul a good amount of stuff with a cyclerack. glad they have been helpful! many different motorcycle riders out there haha
I like your tire changing videos because all the other ones on RUclips are all from dirt bike channels who are always changing super skinny, super soft tires that they can practically do by hand. It's crazy what a different experience it is when someone is changing a 'real' dual sport tire that people use in a larger diameter.

Great tutorial ! I would add one little step, coat the axle in light grease to keep rust from forming! Nothing beats a fresh set of tires in the dirt, ride safe!

Awesome video. I've changed a lot of tires, and this was great! I will pick up a set of Bead Pro tire tools. The bead on the rear of my DR650 is almost impossible to break free. Maybe these will help? Thanks for the tip. One thing, while cleaning everything up those plastic bearing dust covers do come off with two small screw drivers. This allows you to add grease to the bearing and snap the plastic cover back on to the bearing once greased. Pry the cover from the outer part of the bearing. The factory does not add much grease when new.
If you inflate the inner tube with a little bit of air it helps to prevent pinching it while installing the tire. Also makes it a little easier to install the tube in inside the tire 😉👍 great vids 👏

Brother, I just proudly changed my first tire ever on my TW, with only the help of your video here. Thank you so much. Just wanted you to know this and your other videos are very much appreciated. P.S. The beads go in easy peasy if you focus the vibration on the bottle itself. It controls the flow of beads exiting the bottle and didn’t get stuffed once that way.
TDubskid I bought a new 2021 TW200 last year and I only had chance to put 100 kms on it off road, I do light trail riding but come across dirt roads with deep gravel at times, wet clay and mud as well as hard pack single trail. I’m not too worried about pavement performance but wanting to get a replacement tire as the trail wing almost caused me to bite dirt few times from slipping on mud and gravel. My choices are between Shinko 241 and 244, why did you choose 244? How do you like it for mud and gravel roads? Did you ever use or consider the 241 or have any opinions on it?
Hey, not really any particular reason I chose the 244 haven’t tried the 241 so I cant say for sure. Ill try a 241 next so I can compare. The tw does like to wander in mud and sand I have found
@@TDubsKid OMG! I love it! I just tried it out yesterday... It does feel slightly slower (response time) but I immediately felt a huge difference in traction on the street. Wayyyy safer/stable feeling compared to death wing lol. It is slightly heavier than the stock death wing but not by much. Haven't tried it in mud yet but I'll definitely be testing it out soon.
Hey is your lift from HF? I think I have the same one lol That bead pro tool is slick. I hate changing tires though, its the only thing I have the shop do.(Pretty cheap when you bring them just the wheels) Oh and if you ever wanna slime or use any kind of puncture sealer in your tube, do not use any kind of balance beads. They will stick to the slime and your tire will not be balanced. Ask how I know ;) haha

Excellent video. Wondering if you have tried the Shinko 241 yet? I’m debating between it and the 244. I ride mostly eastern woods on dirt/rock/mud. I deff want a very stable planted feel but also don’t want an overly heavy front end feel. Apparently the 241 offers the best of both worlds. Appreciate it!

This front tire option is subject of mine lately. This video you posted is now 5 years old. I see some people recommend the SR244 and others the SR241. I have a 2019 with the original front tire and in loose sand, this thing is going to kill you. So I am looking for a "current" recommendation for loose sand (like beach sand) and/or loose gravel and of course still good on the pavement. Any assistance is appreciated, thank you

Hey, thanks for this video. It totally got me through my first tire change. Question for you: you used a whole 3oz bag of beads? I ask because I got the same set and looked at the chart after I got the beads in, and it looks like they recommend 2oz. Though, it's not exactly clear. I am running the same tire (same size). If 3oz has worked for you, I am not going to worry about it.

Albert Tran it fits good. Tw has same rim size in front as a dirt big rear. Nice to be able to run lower air pressure without pinch flats and beating up rims.

I noticed your boots are cracked like mine haha! I was gonna try the fork skins and figured I’d at least change the oil in there if I’m gonna take the buggers off. Eventually I’ll do the stiffer springs too!

Counteract has a “how much bead calculator” and recommends 2oz where you used 3oz. The tire is 5.10/18, which roughly converts to 130-80/18, correct? Thanks

would it be a bad idea to use some blue thread locker on the axel not? mostly just to protect the threads from getting seized but also to make sure it does not vibrate off.

it's possible I guess but seems unlikly because I don't think anyone makes a kit for the rear tire. it's such a unique size. I don't know much about tubeless tires though. over 15,000 miles on my tw and only had one flat from a nail

I'm looking to buy this tire for my TW and I'm curious how you accounted for the different tire size with the speedometer. Were you able to change the gear?
it's not a big enough change to make much of any difference. the stock speedometer is not really that accurate anyways but close enough, Ill try to remember to check my gps speed with the tw on this next trip and get back to you
yeah it's quite worth it and I compared it yesterday to my gps and it the tw200 read 50 when my gps read 51mph so only 1 off, that's not bad at all even cars are about 5ish mph off it can also change slightly compared to the tread depth

Easer way. For removing the second side of the tire... take it off the opposite way that you showed. Levering from the outside avoids the first bead interference you encountered. Once the second side is free the rim will drop freely down inside the tire, from there the wheel comes out of the tire very easily.
The FIRST THING you do to a TW-200: Replace the Bridgestone DeathWing front tire with a Shinko 241 or 244 or be ready to lowside your pretty T-Dub on a rain slick road. The rear tire is adequate. Everything else is just extra frills.
@@TDubsKid I have three motorcycles, and the tiny T-Dub is the favorite for short trips, because it's light and fun. You don't need to haul out he BMW GS Adventure beats out for a cookie and milk run. Having a front tire that doesn't wash out when you look at it funny is critical to getting your cookies home uncrumbled. There was a guy on the TW-200 Forum who was told at a motorcycle store that the Shinko 241 was a bad tire for the T-Dub. MOST people use that as the alternate tire from stock. Watch out for bad advice from idiots. ASK THE PEOPLE THAT RIDE THEM.
Screw those balancing beads. I ruined a good tube when I was changing out my front tire. They clogged up the stem and nothing i did would remove them. They got wedged. Did everything from video even vibrated them.

I bought a new 2021 TW200 last year and I only had chance to put 100 kms on it off road, I do light trail riding but come across dirt roads with deep gravel at times, wet clay and mud as well as hard pack single trail. I’m not too worried about pavement performance but wanting to get a replacement tire as the trail wing almost caused me to bite dirt few times from slipping on mud and gravel. My choices are between Shinko 241 and 244, why did you choose 244? How do you like it for mud and gravel roads? Did you ever use or consider the 241 or have any opinions on it?
Hey, not really any particular reason I chose the 244 haven’t tried the 241 so I cant say for sure. Ill try a 241 next so I can compare. The tw does like to wander in mud and sand I have found

@@TDubsKid OMG! I love it! I just tried it out yesterday... It does feel slightly slower (response time) but I immediately felt a huge difference in traction on the street. Wayyyy safer/stable feeling compared to death wing lol. It is slightly heavier than the stock death wing but not by much. Haven't tried it in mud yet but I'll definitely be testing it out soon.
Hey is your lift from HF? I think I have the same one lol That bead pro tool is slick. I hate changing tires though, its the only thing I have the shop do.(Pretty cheap when you bring them just the wheels) Oh and if you ever wanna slime or use any kind of puncture sealer in your tube, do not use any kind of balance beads. They will stick to the slime and your tire will not be balanced. Ask how I know ;) haha

Excellent video. Wondering if you have tried the Shinko 241 yet? I’m debating between it and the 244. I ride mostly eastern woods on dirt/rock/mud. I deff want a very stable planted feel but also don’t want an overly heavy front end feel. Apparently the 241 offers the best of both worlds. Appreciate it!

This front tire option is subject of mine lately. This video you posted is now 5 years old. I see some people recommend the SR244 and others the SR241. I have a 2019 with the original front tire and in loose sand, this thing is going to kill you. So I am looking for a "current" recommendation for loose sand (like beach sand) and/or loose gravel and of course still good on the pavement. Any assistance is appreciated, thank you
If you e got balancing beads inside the tires, does that mean you can't "fix" a puncture with Slime while on the trail?

Hey, thanks for this video. It totally got me through my first tire change. Question for you: you used a whole 3oz bag of beads? I ask because I got the same set and looked at the chart after I got the beads in, and it looks like they recommend 2oz. Though, it's not exactly clear. I am running the same tire (same size). If 3oz has worked for you, I am not going to worry about it.

Albert Tran it fits good. Tw has same rim size in front as a dirt big rear. Nice to be able to run lower air pressure without pinch flats and beating up rims.

Have you done anything with your forks and front suspension? I noticed your boots are cracked like mine haha! I was gonna try the fork skins and figured I’d at least change the oil in there if I’m gonna take the buggers off. Eventually I’ll do the stiffer springs too!

Counteract has a “how much bead calculator” and recommends 2oz where you used 3oz. The tire is 5.10/18, which roughly converts to 130-80/18, correct? Thanks

would it be a bad idea to use some blue thread locker on the axel not? mostly just to protect the threads from getting seized but also to make sure it does not vibrate off.

Can you convert the TW200 rims to tubeless tires?
it's possible I guess but seems unlikly because I don't think anyone makes a kit for the rear tire. it's such a unique size. I don't know much about tubeless tires though. over 15,000 miles on my tw and only had one flat from a nail

I'm looking to buy this tire for my TW and I'm curious how you accounted for the different tire size with the speedometer. Were you able to change the gear?
it's not a big enough change to make much of any difference. the stock speedometer is not really that accurate anyways but close enough, Ill try to remember to check my gps speed with the tw on this next trip and get back to you

yeah it's quite worth it and I compared it yesterday to my gps and it the tw200 read 50 when my gps read 51mph so only 1 off, that's not bad at all even cars are about 5ish mph off it can also change slightly compared to the tread depth

What is the brand of the foot activated stand you use?

Easer way. For removing the second side of the tire... take it off the opposite way that you showed. Levering from the outside avoids the first bead interference you encountered. Once the second side is free the rim will drop freely down inside the tire, from there the wheel comes out of the tire very easily.

The FIRST THING you do to a TW-200: Replace the Bridgestone DeathWing front tire with a Shinko 241 or 244 or be ready to lowside your pretty T-Dub on a rain slick road. The rear tire is adequate. Everything else is just extra frills.

@@TDubsKid I have three motorcycles, and the tiny T-Dub is the favorite for short trips, because it's light and fun. You don't need to haul out he BMW GS Adventure beats out for a cookie and milk run. Having a front tire that doesn't wash out when you look at it funny is critical to getting your cookies home uncrumbled. There was a guy on the TW-200 Forum who was told at a motorcycle store that the Shinko 241 was a bad tire for the T-Dub. MOST people use that as the alternate tire from stock. Watch out for bad advice from idiots. ASK THE PEOPLE THAT RIDE THEM.

hmm not sure, I have never touched the carburetor, I just know you have to remove the bowl to get to the main jet

Screw those balancing beads. I ruined a good tube when I was changing out my front tire. They clogged up the stem and nothing i did would remove them. They got wedged. Did everything from video even vibrated them.
if they were that stuck you should have just drilled a hole though them
I was afraid of damaging the threads for the valve that goes back in.
