In this The Kids Aren't Alright guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this smash hit from The Offspring note-for-note.
The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.
The opening riff to "The Kids Aren't Alright" is a challenging riff that uses fast muted downstroke picking. Along with the muting, Noodles will also lets some of the notes ring out depending on the dynamics he is wanting at that moment. The riff is great for developing dynamic control with rapid repeated downstroke riffs.
For most of the rest of the song, the rhythm guitar parts are quite a bit easier. Most of them are just simple power chord based riffs. There is also a main theme that is heard a couple of times in the song that is a single note riff. I will cover each riff in the order that each appears on the original recording.
After the riffs are covered, I will then show you how to play Noodles' guitar solo note-for-note. The are some challenging unison bends in this one, but it is a great solo to learn.

@@oxrjbizzle1984yhe’s got the best ear for guitar tutorial videos. He plays Sublime Santeria solo amazing… that’s the first thing on learned on guitar almost 6/months ago. Took me 3/weeks to learn it but after recording it I realized I had a long way to go. But not bad for 3/weeks of playing guitar! Almost six months later I’m so much better and my recording then to now is night and day! I would definitely take lessons from him if he lived in NY state

You should *definitely do more Offspring!* These videos really are appreciated… especially new players that often learn to play 90’s punk rock as their first songs learned. It’s a good place to start, especially getting those power chords into your muscle memory… plus I seen these guys live in 1996 (I was 16yrs old) and it was awesome🤘

This song is on our new band's 'Punk Pop' setlist (think Kesha meets Dead Kennedy's), which includes the Dead Milkman's: Punk Rock Girl. Noticed there's no single video out there that covers all the different parts....

@@underskillednunderpaid It's a way to remember the names of the strings. Eddie for E Ate for A Dinomite for D Good for G bye for B and Eddie again for E so it says Eddie ate dinomite good bye eddie.
Best tutorial so far, accurate timing and chords. The other tutorials are off. This ones spot on

That unison bend thing plus grabbing some higher note shows up in so many solos I'm starting to find. Get that down and loads of solos will become playable to you as it's often the trickiest part

Yeah I got to see them in a small old time small movie theater or maybe even an older opera house.. They took all the seats out and just jammed up there on the stage no security, it was pretty cool. They even had their kids with them around the mixing boards and in the background. The crew was selling t-shirts off of the amplifier cases out in the lobby they had flipped up side down pretty cool show
