Lol everyone has at least 2 hair types, where you curl pattern falls doesnt really matter, as long as you know and understand how your hair curls up/ looks in its healthiest state vs. In it's most unhealthy state
I think there is so much information out now that people “aren’t really misinformed”. They are classifying their hair as “4C” just for the views. I have noticed that even 4C hair pages on Instagram don’t even post real 4C hair anymore, unless it is manipulated into a twistout or a set in a curly way (or those fake 4C bloggers). I feel the same as you do. I actually think that hair typing is important but only useful when done properly. Someone looking for another 4C Hair bloggers should be able to find us from that hashtags/looking it up but it’s crowded af with women knowingly “mislabeling” their hair, riding the wave, causing all that confusion 😒😒. Lol this is such a touchy subject for me. Now I need a drink because I could go on and on!
It’s one ig page I didn’t even follow cuz their page title said 4c but when I looked on their page it was nothing but girls with type 3 hair. I was like wtf is this. 😂😂😂
It sucks that people who actually make videos about 4c hair don’t get the views or recognition necessary to reach a large audience. It’s mostly the videos that are purposely mislabeled that are pushed for the masses to see.
And alot of the women making 4c hair video's are not even black (mixed raced is mixed raced, not black) ... But you will see delusion black women with 4chair in their comment section following the tutorials and asking why their hair is not like that. They must have never heard of genetics smh...we need help.
I think it's deeper than the videos not being pushed. The people with that hair type aren't supporting it as much as they support others. Go on the curly girls' pages and channels and see who's commenting and praising their hair. Not saying you can't watch other people's content because they don't have your hair type, but damn, support your own imagine like everyone else does! I mostly follow people whose hair resembles mine in some way, external validation and representation matters.
I think another reason people mislabel their hair 4C is to make those looser, more defined styles look like a bigger accomplishment than they are. Like, “Look at how I got my curls to clump. Look at the definition I got.” Yeah, that’s because you’re a 4A, Sis. Have several seats.
Tru! Also tho darkskin has different definitions outside of the black community. Like I’m dark for a filipino but light/brown for a black girl (I’m mixed)
Sometimes it has to do with growing up. I'm the darkest of my siblings and they've always commented on how dark I was. Come to find out that I'm not as dark as they made me out to be
@@BabyGirlTiny I'm literally the same! I'm extremely light , but all of my sisters have closer skin tones to white people (with that yellowish color that pale mixed people often have)
@Laura Nwogu honestly! Like my and my thick hair don't have time for these shenanigans. I want to comb my hair without crying, so please stop with the nonsense!
honeyespresso I have 4c hair and I think she is overrating and I also believe is not serious!! I believe mislabeling does happen but do not think is done intentionally! Non of us are expect with hair! We learn how to take care of own hair when we go natural so mislabeling will happen! We find ways to divide ourselves all the time! Obsessing over who is a real 4c and who is not divides us! Healthy hair is more important.
@@bluerachael1979 Yeahhh. I'm not sure why their hair type would matter.🤷 What? You can't form and express an opinion unless you look like or have the same experience as the person your opinion is based around? So I can't say Donald trump is a dumbass unless I'm a -white- orange narcissistic Republican? I'm not even saying i agree with them saying it's an overreaction. I just don't get this new trend of determining who can speak or have an opinion and who can't. No one on this earth is God, or the opinion police.
bluerachael1979 People with looser curl types will get more views (which isnt in itself a problem) but then the videos of people who ACTUALLY have 4c hair are harder to find and dont get as many views because of it. like if your hair is 4b and you mistake it for 4c i could get that. but its girls with hair that naturally clumps together, barely has any shrinkage, and have bigger curls and its OBVIOUS once you see their hair in its natural state that its not 4c hair. Its 1. spreading misinformation and 2. leaning the algorithm to show inaccurate videos 3. stunting creators with course textures that want to provide information to people who already have a tough time with their hair as it is. The natural hair movement is in celebration of natural hair but because of this trend, the people who have the most trouble making their hair “presentable” and receive the most ridicule (women with 4c hair) , STILL do not get to benefit from it because of texturism. I have so much trouble finding videos on how to style my hair because most of the videos being recommended are from people who are advertising something that is not true.
Typing your own hair is HARD though. I thought I was 4c for a while because my hair won’t bind into a curl anywhere. My hair is coarse and dense, but easy to comb. Conditioning it has straight parts (NOT soft straight), wavy, then curls in the kitchen. I just cut it down to a buzz cut and leave it that way now. My patchwork pattern just looks better to me that way.
THANK YOU 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I have a friend who’s obviously 4A and she’s always trying to claim she has 4C hair and how she “struggles” taking care of it. Like sweetheart no. I have 4C hair and when u put my hair and hers side by side (wet or dry) they’re VERY different. Hers stays pretty much flat and mine immediately will shrink in and form into a Afro. I seriously hate how she thinks she’s “relating” to more black women by saying that.
I used to think I had 4C hair until I saw a true 4C. I was like "ooohhh!" Lol I have 4C, but I actually think I'm more 4B. 🤦🏾♀️ I just stop typing and learning how to keep it moisturized.
Penny Dang right like you’d be just sitting there watching the video like, Imma try this and make my curls pop. Try and my hair still look the same as before😂
Yea, and when someone has healthy, big and NOT blown/stretched out 4c with her coils poppin', people say that that person cannot be 4c 🙄🙄🙄. It's as if some people associate 4c with dry damaged hair and this is really annoying to me. I've also heard people say that 4c doesn't have a curl pattern, that's straight up a lie.
Thank you!!! When I first big chopped, everyone made fun of my hair and called it 4c. I was determined to train my hair to curl and succeeded after wet styling my hair for 6 months. Now, no one will believe that i have 4c hair just because it curls. It just irritating becuase i want to help other 4c people to learn how to get their hair to curl but because evereyone believes 4c hair can't curl, no one believes me.
I'm in a "curly" hair group, and a lot of the mom's with biracial children immediately label their curly children as 4c. They're usually type 3. People immediately associate hair they don't know how to manage with 4c. It is frustrating at times.
When I first went natural, I saw alot if "4C" hair that wasn't 4C like mine and I was just like🤔🤔 I got 4D or something because my hair curlier than that
Yall I was just venting, not a single point was written down before turning on the camera lol but I AM SICK OF THIS! Also there's way more to hair than your curl pattern! There's Texture, Porosity, Density .... all things that make up your hair. Let's discuss below! How do you feel when people mislabel their hair pattern?
Quite honestly I don't care what others choose to identify their curl pattern as long as it's not affecting me and my hair journey I'm good. It's kind of frustrating because people that I watch with actual 4c hair are being attacked in their comments because they decide to stretch their hair and it's not shrinking up or coiling properly according to another person's opinion. Black women have beautiful hair and as someone with 4b & 4c hair we shouldn't be so focused on what somebody identifies with because we all have had different hair journeys. Not trying to be rude or anything just wanted to say how I feel.
Chizi Duru question... u started the video saying that someone people dont mislabel their hair as 4c, but then at the end of the video recognize that 4c doesnt look the same on everyone. why not apply the last logic when u watch these girls videos?? maybe their 4c hair is different idk
Clicks and subscriptions!! I’m almost scared to say but I’m the very very beginning of my hair journey I fell for a lot of them thinking my curls would turn out like theirs🤦🏾♀️ a year or so, hair shows and looking at other RUclipsrs with actually 4c hair helped me understand how 4c hair is 4c hair
I so agree with 4c being “trendy” right now for influencers! I have also noticed people with looser curls (4a and less) now entitling their videos “type 4” instead of “curly”. Maybe I’m just tripping. I feel like these youtubers know their hair type, they just want views. It’s infuriating and insulting to me.
Amber Frazier I don’t think there’s anything that’s inherently wrong with it. I just find it misleading. Why not specify the type in the title? Many of this women that title their videos that have a mixture of type 3c and 4a. 4c hair gurus usually title their videos “4c” I feel like their misleading to the 4c women who struggle with hair hate and their routines.
@@ladylaurenia oooooh, I see. So it's a context thing. I can see how it can be misleading for someone with 4C since HOW they're managing/handling their hair would be different (ESPECIALLY if they have some 3C in there). I think people should start including their porosity too, but that's just me. Thanks for replying back.
@@ladylaurenia but it's not misleading, if majority of their hair is type 4, but only a part is type 3. I have 4a hair in the front, 4c hair on the sides by my ears, and 3c in the back, but it's only a small section of my hair. It's not misleading, that is just being picky. Most people have different kinds of curls on their head, the majority rules.
Apparently all the people who has difficulties handling their hair wants to label it as 4c. I used to see a lot of youtubers with 3c hair saying things like "oh my hair is loose at the front but the back keeps getting tangled, so the back is 4c" 😐
Crisleidy De Leon OMFG I HAVE 4A HAIR AND THIS ANNOYS THE CRAP OUT OF ME. There are WAYY too many naturals with 3c hair labelling themselves as 4a, which makes 4a’s label themselves as 4b’s and 4b’s as 4c’s
I hate, HATE. The term “good hair” I heard that term thrown around too much growing up when people always tried to compare me and my cousins. A term routed in colorism. It’s the first thing a lot people say after they find out my Mom is black. I confront its use every time. This is the only way these people will learn... 🤷🏽♂️
I never understood the whole "good hair" thing. My dad was always telling me that everybody has good hair when you take care of it. I didn't realize he was preparing me. Did a darn good job of keeping me out of that mess of comparison and wanting what's not mine.
@@ardentgailla My parents did the same. My dad refused to put chemicals in our hair and always insisted on it being done by getting it braided. My sisters and I all have different textured but he was adamant about oiling our scalps and manipulating it as little as possible. Made me love my hair my whole life. Use to have people tell me I needed a hot comb or perm when I wore my big fro. Now they're all on a hair "journey" because it's trendy.
A "natural" hairstylist once tried to tell me I had NO curl pattern AFTER she had washed my hair and ignored the very obvious curls in my 4B hair. I never went back
People use 4c hair for clout. Statistically, there are more people with kinkier hair textures than looser textures. In order to appease a majority of people you have to "relate". What better way to relate than by saying "Hey, I have dry, kinky, 4c hair too! Look at my video and I can tell you how to make it curly."
teidra williams WORDDD‼️ Little do they know that it just raises insecurities about our hair not looking as “good” as theirs. Especially to younger people🤦🏾♀️
Like what works for your medium porosity 3c/4a is not gonna work for my low porosity 4c hair. Like no if you can detangle your whole entire head in 5 minutes then don’t talk to me about “works for all type 4 hair” because that’s not always true.

Here's my 2 cents: Been natural 8 years. And although my hair is 3c/4a I learned most of my haircare techniques from 4c women (efficientlynatural, Naturalme4c, Nappyfu, african export, etc.). The problem here is what I've seen for YEARS sadly: 4c folks don't like watching 4c women. Hair forums, fb posts, & youtube videos with looser hair textures are FLOODED with comments from 4C women either fawning over their curls or lamenting about how they "Can't 4c" themselves having the same results. Yet posts with 4c hair people pop up and...crickets. Where did all those same women go? Jesus. For goodness sake, please support your 4c fam. 4c hair is beautiful, stop fawning over looser hair & fawn over the beauty of people showcasing your hair instead.♥️
@@dreamingbig98 Sometimes when we click on it it's too late because depending on the state of the hair 4a can look similar to 4c when its dry, especially if we are only seeing a thumbnail view, some of the people who do this know that. The truth always comes out when they wet or put product and we see those perfectly formed ringlets start becoming visible. We honestly feel offended and bamboozled when this happens lol
Facts. I learned everything I needed to know about my hair from 4c women, and I have the same hair type as you. But ironically I can't find RUclipsrs with 3c hair. I don't really care, but there's things I wanna know, like what product do I use to get that curly crunchy like perm rod looking curl? Is it a moose? Is it a pomade? What the hell... I don’t really understand that “when it’s time to be black.” What happens when it’s time to be black. I’m a brown skinned girl and obviously have been my entire life but I don’t understand?
Yeah all the “I do not 4C my hair doing this...” comments on every hair tutorial are getting old. It’s not funny. And most of those people don’t even have 4C textured hair
@@sonsofelshamy3987 i watch people of different hair textures all the time!! i’m talking bout those who watch them for hair tips when their hair is v different.
Gotta agree that 4C hair does not have to characterised as a hot mess. I have 4C hair and up to 70% shrinkage after a shampoo. However after countless trials and errors to find the products that agree with my kinky hair I discovered it LOVES olive oil! So since I started detangling and treating my hair with olive oil before shampooing, now after a shampoo I have less shrinkage, my hair combs through much easier and get this I have much less breakage!! So yes I have 4C hair but managing it is much easier now I know how to get it to retain moisture and what products my hair responds to best!!
A lot of people do not know how to moisture train their hair. My trichologists believe in moisture training. I. E wrapping the hair in a hot towel for twenty minutes every day with leave in and detangler and washing and deep conditioning with heat every week. If I go swimming every day my hair forms into pen springs and detangles easily from all the moisture.
Olive oil is really good for hair and skin. It’s very moisturizing!! I would never use it my hair is straight/wavy so it gets greasy on its own, but I’m glad it works for you and others! I wish it was easier for people to find what moisturizers work for them
@@ijwd424 I've realized my hair does not like coconut oil, which kinda sucks because it seems like most natural hair products have coconut oil in them.
I think I have 4c hair but it seems to Hate olive oil and it’s so hard to find products that don’t have it because it’s in everything! Mine seems to like Shea butter.
Since no head of hair is the same, that whole hair label chart is garbage. Because of this, i myself as a natural am not really worried much about the person's texture if I'm looking for a product review, or style inspiration. Even with this bogus hair chart, having the same hair "type" doesn't mean the style will look the same. I feel this way with skin and makeup videos with POC. The person doesn't have to be my EXACT skin color to take skin care or makeup tips from them. I've found help with acne, hyperpigmentation issues with both honey colored ppl to dark cocoa. We waste so much time getting caught up in the little things!
Exactly! My hair is considered 4b in some charts and 3c in others. Not only that but people tend to not realize that you can have more than one curl pattern in your hair. I've found that not focusing on the pattern of my hair but learning my hair porosity has helped me to learn how to deal with it more effectively
Not the point. The point is type for 4 is largely seen as messy and unwanted by most and others will use it to get views. Just because you can't use it doesn't mean the chart is not useful to others. Same for skin. Acne has nothing to do with skin color so getting advice is easy. Foundation shade advice from a white person being a dark skin black person are two different things. Hair advice from a straight haired person as someone with super curly hair are two different things.
I don’t even have 4c hair (mine is 4a) and whenever I see another natural with a loser curl pattern label their hair as 4c it irks my spirit. They make 4c hair seem like such a problem when it’s really such a beautiful hair type.
Kree Ol6 What hurts me is when I read the comments under type 3 hair videos. “I can’t 4c that” “my 4c hair could never” etc. This also perpetuates the 4c ‘hate’. If you want your hair to act like something its not, you will never love your hair. But this is a topic for another time..
You mean coils not curls. 4c hair has no 'curl' as type 3s would say. And definition can be difficult because the coils are so tiny Coils are the proper term for type 4. Using curl will be holding us to impossible standards and it implies that we are trying to measure ourselves to type 3 We are our own beautiful category
theAjeroFamilyyy I disagree you can define 4c hair. If you meant it isn’t naturally defined well then you can say that about any curly-coily hair type. It can be frizzy or whatever until you put product in it and just like other hair types, when you do that it looks defined.
@@followerofchrist9800 Sigh. Wish y’all would come to West Africa and tell us about moisture an definition. The 4c you find on most Black-American “4cs” is very different from ours. I’ve been natural 20 years and learned how to take care of my 4c well before RUclips and I can tell you that “definition”-i.e., the clumping Chizi mentioned-is not something that many West African women can get, no matter how moisturized their hair is. For a lot of us, our hair doesn’t get that springy bounce either. And that’s because we have a coarser, stiffer texture than Black-Americans because Americans tend to have some mixed ancestry. (Not necessarily white, but other ethnicities with looser texture than W. Africans.) Always wondered when they used to teach that type 4 was a Z or no pattern, when everyone I know has tight, very well-defined coils. They’re just tiny as hell. So my hair doesn’t get that clumping EVER and it’s not even as tightly coiled as some women I know. But clumping’s not important to me cos I love everything it IS able to do. Just wish all these women would quit with the “I’m a 4c” nonsense, so the younger, insecure new naturals with real 4c hair don’t feel like there’s something wrong with them or aspire to have that looser curl instead of loving theirs
Exactly,A question I’ve always wondered is does every black person have type 4c hair. I honestly believe that I don’t have type 4 hair and im black,I think that my hair is just nappy and dry. I grew up getting perms and I plan on going natural in the near future and I really don’t want sound dumb labeling my hair something that its not. Im glad I found someone who has the same speculations as me🤦🏾♀️🤣
@@Rieannaaa no not all black people have 4c hair, we're all different. The media has speculated that we do, when we just don't. If your trying to start you natural hair journey, try to find the porosity of your hair and ofcourse the curl typ. curl type that most black people have are : 4c, 4b, 4a, 3c, 3b, and 3a
Zoe Bell I don’t think I have a curl type is that even possible? ,the only time my hair is curly is when I remove braids and my hair is nappy and thick most of time.
The mislabeling is inconsiderate to newbies & a waste of everyone’s time. But man, we, (black people), get so caught up in these nuanced classifications & labels that are wholly irrelevant in the grand scheme. I believe we begin to subconsciously resent people who don’t share our features or our exact struggles. We view our sisters who relax their hair as sell-outs or disgraces; some feel superior than natural women . Now, we’re getting too caught up in the actual TEXTURE of natural air. Our identities are more than our hair. Our hair is precious, special, & beautiful but we aren’t defined by it, by any means. Having certain emotions deeply entangled in it is one of many signs that it consumes too much of our identities.
The more and more I learn about hair the more I’m starting to realize that the hair typing system (4a,b,c) is kinda irrelevant. As far as the maintenance of hair it’s more important to know your hair’s porosity, and whether it’s fine, medium, course or a mixture. Is it just me?
Yeah definitely. When I first started doing my own hair I thought hair texture mattered because I thought it related to the products you were supposed to use. There were many videos where I found that those products didn't work for me but I had the same or similar hair type. Then I stumbled upon greenbeauty channel and learned about porosity levels. I have low porosity and a lot of videos I watched used heavy creams and oils which didn't work well with my hair. I've been watching her channel since, she is so informative about the science of hair I wish more people knew about her channel.
4c pattern helps me with styling because I need 5 different products to slick my hair down! You would think because it is fine it would get weighed down easily nope. The curl pattern is so tight it struggles to slick down.
And I hate seeing people say “I can’t 4c myself doing this” meanwhile their on someone with 3a hairs video 💀 like y’all need to stop comparing your hair 🙄
XXXMELISSATACION I know cause watch other hair turtorials on people with different hair textures then mine obviously cause there’s not only 4c hair but they don’t need to comment that
Chiiile, these girls be having Tracee ellis ross hair talm bout "WATCH MY 4C HAIR CARE ROUTINE" its so insulting, and once again why im so annoyed that we really let the type 3 hair take over the community.
@@annanexton4682 Exactly. This is kind of my problem with folks. They tend to judge if someone's hair is 4C based on whether or not they can do a certain style or not. And your hair is more than your curl pattern. And the way your hair behaves depends on many different factors. I mean there are people with much loser curl patterns that also can't slick their hair back like that.
Lol I'm dead. My hair needs like 5 layers of different holding products (eco styler, got2be gel, got2be spray,, pomade and spritz) to stay the Heck down and even then it last like a couple of hours. Lol! It is 4c to me as in super tight curly coily kinky and fine and fly away. Also my hair only forms into pen spring coils when it's super hydrated. Otherwise it's the classic lack of definition 4c.
@@birdiewolf3497 As much as I dont want to tell anyone about their hair, I have never...I repeat, NEVER, seen or heard of someone with 4c hair who can slick their hair down with just water. The 4c umbrella includes texture and curl pattern. Or well, the lack of curl pattern lol. no matter how dense someones hair is, if its 4c its going to be coarser than other hair types. And coarser hair is not going to lay with water lol
Same issue arises when someone asks "how long have you been natural?" and one may answer "8 years," but has a TWA. The person's reaction is shock as if everyone is expected to have tailbone length after a certain number of years of being natural; then compare people's natural hair journeys to others while ignoring the fact that some people do a BC several times, or transition from relaxed to natural, or even return back to relaxed after being natural for years, OR some people actually may prefer their hair short after some time. Ugh! The ignorance!
Sis I have a whole rant on this coming up 😂😂😂 someone came on my Instagram page and said they'd love to see my hair 10years ago In comparison to now. I told her my hair 10years ago was bald from big chop. Then they went ahead to say that they've gone through all my pictures and the length has been the same since and my page is almost pointless for someone looking for hair growth tips. Meanwhile my page never professed to be a hair growth page all I share is styling ideas for 4c hair. It rubbed me the wrong way cos it's sooo ignorant 😅and she had the nerve to get mad when I checked her 🙄
Yessss!! I have been natural for 10 years and I have 4c hair. When I tell people how long I've been natural I get that same shocked and judgemental look. It used to bother me until I realized that all hair journeys are not equal, I have had setbacks and breakage, learning what works for my hair was and still is a process. I had to learn to stop comparing my progress to others, especially naturals with looser curl types.
Africasfinest21 omg I’m so thankful that I found this comment thread!! Today is wash day for me & I’ve been natural for 9 years now...I’ve cut my hair so many times now I’ve lost count!! But I’m on a hair growth path in my journey now but I’ve been feeling disappointed lately than my hair’s not growing fast enough/not cooperating with twist outs 😭😩 and I was beginning to question all my natural hair choices, but these comments made me feel much better. My 4c journey is exactly that, mine! #nomorecomparison
The system has helped a lot of people in terms of learning to accept and take care of their hair, only when it's used wrongly is it really a detriment.
praise_worthy _boundary that I have learned is that porosity is wayyy more important than curl pattern. I have type 3 hair and I used watch type 3 haired youtubers and wonder why mine wouldn’t turn out like theirs. Now I’ve started watching people based off of their porosity and my hair looks the best it’s been in a long time.
Me with the 3c/4a like “preeeech sister call out the fraudsssss” because when 4a/4b calla I’m 4c it throws off the whole chart because then they say 4a is 3b and 3b is 2 etc
Pomodoro because well a lot of us 4as have a mix like me I got 4a in thefront of my head and 3c in the center and back because but majority of our hair is 4a so we say 4a or 3c/4a
Pomodoro I’ve noticed that. I type in 3b and get 3a, 3c and get 3b, 4a and get 3c and so on. Sometimes I feel like RUclips is just trying to annoy me at this point.
I mean even as a white person I've seen videos/pictures of people claiming their hair is 4C and I thought, "Wait... I thought 4C hair looked different from that?" Thanks for the video! I learned today :)
I’m starting to think that the hair typing system is just a social construct 😂. You either have straight, wavy, or curled and coiled hair. I’m to the point where I’m scared to type my hair bc I’m confused about what’s what. Bc I’ve heard many “4C” hair ppl state that their hair coils and not curls though they are the same... I think everyone is just confused as a collective. 😅
Of course it’s a social construct. The hair typing system was originally devised by a hairstylist by the name of Andre Walker. Ironically 4c was not in his system (and neither was 3c for that matter). People later added these types as they felt these curl patterns were missing from his system.
Lempicka J Wow see I didn’t even know that. Thank you for sharing this golden information lol. I was telling someone else under another comment that only three subcategories of types of curly/kinky hair wasn’t enough so to know that the original hair typing system is on a spectrum versus how others explain it is interesting to hear/see. That further proves my point of ppl being confused and choosing to create their own definitions of what the hair types are since they felt that they weren’t represented. Bc Andre says that their are four types of hair (straight, wavy, curly, and kinky) which is understandable. I’ve always felt that just A,B, and C wasn’t enough and I don’t really think they matter unless you’re trying to manipulate the hairs natural pattern. So thank you again!
Kennady Krea Curls and coils are different. However, I do think like anything else the hair chart is there as a guide. But many, take it as law and feel they have to group themselves into this construct without variation.
I wish someone, anyone, would talk about how the hair charts never depict the real 4c. The real 4c isn't just very tiny curls; it's curls and very very kinky; no hair strand is just a straight curl, but it bends upon itself numerous times.
Thank you 👏🏾 I’ve been saying that another flaw with hair typing system is how they describe the 4c coil or kink. My strands when stretched kinks but when you let it go, it coils. So it’s not just kinks, its not just coils...it’s both! It’s a coiled kink lol. Sometimes it’s not one or the other.
I genuinely think it’s because a lot of 4C naturals turn to the internet for guidance and SOME (literally not all) influencers try to capitalize off that
@Anna K. then look up hair for white women and stop looking up natural curly hair because it’ll most likely show our type of hair. you make no sense😐there’s so many vids of white women doing they type 2 hair but you want to be included in our shi instead🤦🏿♀️
There is this one lady with 4a/4b hair (mostly 4b) and when asked what her hair texture is she goes ya I got the "good hair" its 3c and that makes me sad because not only is she delusional but speaking like that will have an effect on her young daughter who has gorgeous 4c hair.
When Chizi said “your hair is not 4c it’s just dry” I felt that. That was once me, because I have extremely low porosity hair and my hair tangles very easily. I really don’t know why we immediately associate tough/tangled/dry hair with 4c, that definitely isn’t true! I feel like 4c naturals are quite guilty of causing this misconception too by saying things like I do not 4c this in the comments sections of certain hair tutorials or making it seem like their is super unmanageable Type 4 hair in general just requires more patience, care and MOISTURE than other hair types, that doesn’t make it unmanageable. Just because you might not get the same results doesn’t make your hair any less beautiful or manageable. For example my wash and go on my low porosity, high density, medium to coarse strand type 4 hair won’t look the same as someone with the same hair type but with medium/high porosity, medium to low density/fine hair. 4c hair is BEAUTIFUL and definitely underrepresented on social media. I think a lot of us are just misinformed and apologies to true 4C naturals that have been affected by people faking to have 4c hair for views. Those type 3 girls that claim 4c hair are the worst (when they knowingly do it of course) but why do we tend to give them more views than people that actually have the hair texture that resembles our own? Just embrace your God given hair queens, once you start loving your hair it’ll be a lot easier to take care of it ❤️
I hate that when this discussion started waaaaay back in the early 2000's on yt (I had a channel since 2009. Im from the Ateyaaa days lol), it got so bad that it was forcing actual 4c women to then categorize their hair as 4z. Does anyone else remember that?
I saw someone in the comments a few months ago that 4z hair is the worse. And I wanted to reply that there is no such thing as 4z hair. All hair types fall into the A-C category. I was watching someone who had 4c hair, and the person in the comment swore that having 4z hair (that doesn't exist) was worse.
Omg yes. Throwback. I remember that. That was back when everyone was cutting their hair thinking they would get 4A and were pissed when it wasn't while pushing the 4C curls further outside of the community.
But let's talk about how women with 4c hair choose to watch women with looser curl patterns and how they wish their hair was "like theirs". Meanwhile the RUclipsrs with actual 4c hair have way less followers. Just saying.
Anddd WAYYYYY LESS VIEWS🙃🙃🙃 ! We can't complain that our natural hair movement has been hijacked when we aren't making the effort to support YTers who show immense love to theirs and our own curl patterns.
The real issue is that Andre Walker's Hair typing system isn't very good at describing African textured hair. There are other hair typing systems that are much better.
Yes. He did us a disservice esp when it comes to typing. He basically grouped 4B and 4C together. And He should be inbtween types 4A/4B and 4B/4C. Plus, he excluded hair textures which throw a lot of ppl off bc they can have the same type but not the same texture like silky 4A and Spongy 4A.
teahgurl omggg this! Sometimes i get so thrown off by this system because i have 3c / 4a and sometimes i see girls with similar curls (3c parts) but they have a shiny, almost european like curl. But i have a more coarse, wirey, less shiney 3c curl. Which i loveee but i dont understand how that could be the same hairtype..
@@vl3525 "Hair type" is not quite interchangeable for "Curl type" and because we (myself included) have adopted the habit of using those terms interchangeably, it adds more to the confusion. People with the same type of curl, yet different textures, have both VERY different experiences when it comes to hair. So yes, their CURL types would be the same, but their overall hair type isn't. If that makes sense. I feel like an updated version of the hair chart needs to be created and popularized, because as said in the video, there are other aspects to hair like "sub-types" kind of.
He actually made it for his personal clients. It's how he kept track of them. People took it and ran with it for us all. But if I have 98 designated clients & I work out a system that works in relation to them that works for me, it's helpful FOR ME. I can share it with u but that doesn't mean it works for all black hair
I used to be so obsessed with knowing my hair type and all that. Now I just listen to my hair and keep it moisturized and detangled as much as possible 😊
Also saying they are bald when they have short hair...tell that to someone whose hair is falling out and have actual bald spots with no hair growing...highly irritating!🤦🏾♀️
I hate when I see comments and vids saying , “ I hate my 4c hair “ it’s just further perpetuating the idea that 4c is the worst hair to have. And you can’t do anything with it.
I understand where you’re coming from but don’t undermine someones experience because you don’t feel the same. Many girls with type 4 hair were not taught to nurture and manage our hair but to “tame” it with straighteners. The natural hair journey is paired with a mental self acceptance journey. What they are perpetuating are unfortunately all that they’ve been taught. There was a point where a lot of us subconsciously or outright hated everything about our hair. It’s a process. They have to learn to value it through seeing others with the same hair type flourish and not just when 4c hair gets to a really long state.
Monzillaa omg 😳 yes she is so cringe with it she needs to address her insecurities because sometimes I can’t even watch her vids it’s like watching someone rag on themselves totally weird
Ty Nayeli I get the self acceptance journey but at what point will people realize part of the self acceptance is to where your hair as it is. And speak about it nicely or atleast fake it. Because these big brands are watching and noticing how 4c girls don’t even like 4c so why put them on the front cover of the campaign, or work with kinkier textures and it’s just really getting on the nerves of the non insecure people because we want everyone to win.
I feel you. According to these 4c vids I think I'm a 4f. There wouldn't be the insecurity if ppl didn't make fun of "nappy" hair or not being faced with the potential of being fired because of their natural hair or kids sent home from school over hair. Yeah ppl clickbait because they know we're looking for specific products and regime that works best.
I’ve been saying this bruh!! I don’t even have 4C hair but I’m sick of ppl claiming they have 4C because their hair is thick. That does not mean you have a 4C curl pattern(which can be thin, thick, course, fine, low porosity, high porosity, etc.) It gives people misinformation and is also just strange to claim something you clearly don’t have... thanks for this video!
What, people seriously do that? Idk what hair type I have, but I don't label it after sth artifical. But my is kinda weird tho. The first day after I wash it it's wavy, some strands in the front can even have one little coil in it, but it usually goes completely straight by day 3, maybe only one or two strands will stay wavy.
Olivia Omoregie OR the ones who have a relaxer and say "I have a pretty good grade of hair". Well big chop and then come and see me in 3 months. Bring the receipt! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I honestly think they don’t know they are 4a. Too many 3c’s are calling themselves 4a and then you got 4a’s thinking their hair is kinkier than it truly is. I’m 4a and for the longest I thought I was 4b/4, because my curls were smaller than those called 4a’s. I mean this chick is a so-called 4a: ruclips.net/video/Xd-UuYov6qM/видео.html then I must be 4f and I KNOW I’m 4a
You said it! I’m sick of people telling girls with healthy, beautiful, short OR long type four hair that they’re bald headed or have bad hair, meanwhile type three girls could have their shit falling out with heat damage and more and y’all would still praise the LoOSe cUrLs. This is coming from someone with 3b curls.
“Good hair” is such a horrible phrase. Kinky and curly hair is GOOD HAIR. When people label hair as good hair/bad hair, it makes women with these textures want to damage their hair just to look like they have “good hair”, instead of taking appropriate care of the natural texture they were born with, which is just as gorgeous as any other texture when it’s healthy.
@@koo-core7274 yes, i never knew what that phrase meant until i reached high school and bc i have 3c hair, i was always getting that comment however it never made me feel good hearing it. like thank you that you like my hair but it pisses me off that ppl believe it's the gold standard and anything that's a 4 type is terrible. i have three sisters and we all have different hair types (me with 3c, my older with 4a, my younger with 4b and then my youngest with 3b) and i could never take a "compliment" like that knowing that they look at my other sisters' hair and don't think the same
@@analouzies exactly, i've seen really long healthy 4c hair as well as short healthy 4c hair and both were beautiful. all hair types have their positives and negatives, like 4s can hold a lot of hair styles better than 3s, etc. ppl just need to learn to love what you have bc no matter the texture it's beautiful so you need to take care of it. we af/ams have such unique hair and we should be proud of that
i have a whole bunch of thoughts on this but to summarize: 1) people need to understand that 4c hair can curl. this whole negative connotation that 4c just will never curl is wrong. 2) there was a point in time where 4c hair was looked down upon and those with that curl pattern had to search far and wide to find another woman who had that same texture, and now all of a sudden, it's as if people want to hop on that and essentially steal the thunder of actual 4c hair women...problematic. 3) 4c hair doesn't automatically equal the sahara desert. any hair can be extremely dry and once it's moisturized, appears very different. so it irks me when people equate extreme dryness and unmanageability with 4c. because that's not always the case and it's lowkey an insult. ok...i'm done lol thank you for sharing your thoughts! honestly, agreed with everything you had to say
The Daily Seyi yea 4c does curl or I like to say the kinks clump together. The hair clumps like tight coils and ringlets or a very small and tight wave. So that bothers me when people say it doesn’t clump. No, you just don’t know how to achieve moisturized hair. And you don’t have to do max hydration method to achieve it.
La La shampoo your hair first to make sure it’s clean, then cowash your hair more often and deep condition longer with heat or overnight. Encourage clumping by using a detangling tool then using only your fingers for a while until you get the hang of it. Also, using a custard only or a custard before a gel helps. Eventually you will know how you need to do your hair to get it to clump and if that’s even worth doing but no wash day should take you 15 steps, that’s ridiculous.
I am arab but my hair is 3c and I still have a lot of trouble accepting them, especially because most Arabs have naturally straight, wavy or slightly curly (3a) hair or straighten them. I still haven't found a single person from where I'm from with their curly hair except for my cousin and I, and I only keep it curly because I don't want society's standards to get the best of me. However I really am the only arab with hair as curly as mine (it is not 4c hair but still "very different" from my origin country's standards) but sometimes I really want to just... get a keratin treatment
I get so annoyed when people who don’t have 4c hair try to claim they do but they really have 3c or 4a hair. I have 4b /4c hair and I try to find hairstyles and when it’s a loose curl it getssss on myyyy nerves. And I hate the fact that instagram doesn’t really push out the beauty of 4c hair or 4 type hair. It’s a really beautiful hair pattern and there are times were I get sad I have it but now I know how beautiful it is
for the insta thing younjusy gotta tell insta what you like by liking only certain post, like if you see a type 4 post, like that, then they start shhowing 4c so only like the 4c, and if you see a 2b hair post click not interested. You're feed will form out the way you want.
Casablanca Durant that is honestly so true. And since social media has such a big influence on many people it just makes things worse when you see girls perming it straightening their hair because they makes other girls and kids want to do it and then get addicted and then it just ends in unhealthy hair and regret. It need to change.
Dani but the thing is I’m speaking about in general for many girls as well. And influencers put it out there as well which tempts girls to damage their hair without knowing they are
Finally somebody is talking about this!!! I remember when I was learning how to do my natural hair and the amount of clickbait videos were so annoying, stop trying to profit off of a hair type that isn't yours it's weird
It is about timmmeeee......someone brought this up. I'm from Namibia Africa and I swear I was convinced that maybe there is something in the water that y'all on the otherside use. I have never seen so many variations of just one thing. As usual Aunty Chizi always here serving her sisters from the other side. Keep dong what you doing. God bless
What sucks is when everyone comments and the person still won't change the title of the video. I have 2b and there are woman with 3b posting videos. They look good with their nice curls but I don't have them and I want to look good with my hair. It's not only 4C mislabeling videos. Another thing I'm going through right now with people on the internet mislabeling this is that I'm looking for a three bedroom apartment. I keep finding ads on FB where people want a roommate and they put 3 bedroom in the title because they want to share it. Ugg. A person looking to rent a room won't search for 3 bedroom apt u idiots. Way off topic but I'm stuck inside avoiding covid19 and even my own thoughts are rambling to me. Sorry.
I agree with you 100%.... I especially hate when they're rating a prouduct and say OMGOSH yall this prouduct has my 4C hair curls popping.. Im like girl Bye! Get outta her with your type 3 hair.. Now try that product on some REAL 4C hair! YOUR RIGHT! IT'S SOOO OFFENSIVE TO ME!
Family is sometimes harder on us than anyone! Keeping watching this beautiful ladies videos and remember OUR hair is fiesty, opinionated, non conforming, magical (straight one moment, curled up the next) and versatile!! Xo!
Chizi, you hit the nail on the head!! I remember when the natural hair community was for us black girls with 4C, kinky hair. I don't want to be resentful, but it's hard to see the movement move more towards people with looser textures, especially when they claim to be 4C and are clearly not :/
PREACH ON IT SIS!!! 🗣 soooo glad you covered this because these poor young girls just going natural think their hair is “4Z” and untamable because of this very mislabeling! 4C is at the end of the scale because it means your hair could not be nappier!! At the same time once you learn how to truly care for these kinks, 4C can really FLOURISH ✨
I’ve always been praised for how “easy to manage” my 4c hair is but in reality I just know how to take care of my hair. And sometimes I’ve been turned down by people to get my hair done because “4c hair is too hard to work with” and that just aggravates my soul in its entirety.
I know being turned down must hurt. However I've dealt with stylists who claim that they knew what they were doing and ended up ruining my hair. After a couple of times of having to bring my hair back to healthy, I'm really okay if someone *politely* admits that they don't have much experience with my hair type and refers me to another stylist. At least, those hurtful stylists didn't have a chance to mess up your hair.
MsSphinx91 yeah I guess you’re right but I just wish people would at least state that up front on their business cards or social media formats because it’s such a waste of time to go through planning or discussing then last minute they’re like “ oh just btw I don’t do natural hair” like that’s such a wide spectrum of people that you may as well not call yourself a hair stylist at that point.
Every natural under the sun claims that their hair is 4C... I still don't get why people still follow the hair typing system of a man who says that type 4 needs to be relaxed... Why still following that hair typing system? Just saying.
I agree with you. My hair is kinky and I think I'm 4C but i see girls with loose curls and saying their are 4C then i think to my self there must be a 4D or F.
I would love to see the movement focusing on health over length and stop making people feel like if their hair isn't long down their buttocks it's not worth celebrating. And no I am not some hater I have, tick densed and past shoulders length 4b/4c hair. We need real tips, real knowledge and clarity. Your channel. Your experience fair enough but some people need to stop acting like gurus because a lot of them are really clueless and spreading wrong hair practices. I too is tired.
Someone had to talk about it and same for the “short natural hair hairstyles” and their hair are more than shoulder lenght🙄
OMFG YES!!! or when u actually look up "shoulder length" hair, it's actually down their back😒
Say it again for the ppl in the back! Clickbait for real
Yes! and the whole time they talking about how short their hair and you looking at your self like damn! Lol
THIS. I had an actual TWA and could find nothhinnggg to do with it
Right??? I think “short” is a universally understood word. We don’t need new definition to confuse people lol
5 seconds into some of these “4c” videos....”Aight, imma head out.” Clickbait is soo frustrating!
😂😂 right and it's so annoying

Exactly 😅
Lol everyone has at least 2 hair types, where you curl pattern falls doesnt really matter, as long as you know and understand how your hair curls up/ looks in its healthiest state vs. In it's most unhealthy state
Same.. I have no idea my hair type, I just know how my hair reacts to certain things.
I just say I'm in the 2-3 range 😂 on a good day I can get some 3a/3b curls and on a bad day I'm just wavy
I can’t even tell anymore lmao, that back of my head has 4c and near my hairline it’s 3c lmao
Sometimes I think people WANT to be told that their hair isn’t 4c so they feel good .
ShanForShort THISSSS! I see it all the time. Portraying 4c as unwanted/negative just like Chizi said.
Thank you!!
You’re right. I was happy when I learned I actually wasn’t 4C, I’m ashamed and it’s problematic.
Wowwwww.
Agreed

I think ppl mislabel their hair as an ego booster. “I have 4c hair but it’s not like your 4c hair, look at mine” lol ppl are manipulative
I agree. They like to seem like the better of the bunch and the attention that comes with it. It's pathetic.
i agree!!!!
This!
Yesssssssssss.
Ego booster? I don't want it
It sucks that people who actually make videos about 4c hair don’t get the views or recognition necessary to reach a large audience. It’s mostly the videos that are purposely mislabeled that are pushed for the masses to see.
Right?! 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
And alot of the women making 4c hair video's are not even black (mixed raced is mixed raced, not black) ... But you will see delusion black women with 4chair in their comment section following the tutorials and asking why their hair is not like that. They must have never heard of genetics smh...we need help.
Yes, feels like I land on a goldmine when I find one.
Truth!!
Have several seats.

honeyespresso AGREED
honeyespresso I have 4c hair and I think she is overrating and I also believe is not serious!!
I'm not even saying i agree with them saying it's an overreaction. I just don't get this new trend of determining who can speak or have an opinion and who can't. No one on this earth is God, or the opinion police.
OJ Was Acquitted Too You can have your opinion but that doesn’t mean anyone will care about it.
bluerachael1979 People with looser curl types will get more views (which isnt in itself a problem) but then the videos of people who ACTUALLY have 4c hair are harder to find and dont get as many views because of it. like if your hair is 4b and you mistake it for 4c i could get that. but its girls with hair that naturally clumps together, barely has any shrinkage, and have bigger curls and its OBVIOUS once you see their hair in its natural state that its not 4c hair. Its 1. spreading misinformation and 2. leaning the algorithm to show inaccurate videos 3. stunting creators with course textures that want to provide information to people who already have a tough time with their hair as it is.
You nailed it. Annoys me so when people throw out comments about their “struggle” managing their 4C hair that clearly isn’t 4C in the first place. 🙄

I'm in a "curly" hair group, and a lot of the mom's with biracial children immediately label their curly children as 4c. They're usually type 3. People immediately associate hair they don't know how to manage with 4c. It is frustrating at times.

What palette did you use for eye shadow? It's very pretty

What's wrong with just saying type 4? Genuinely asking cuz that's what I say and I don't want to offend anyone if it's not ok.
Maybe theyre saying type 4 because they have different type 4 textures on their head, like me
@@ladylaurenia but it's not misleading, if majority of their hair is type 4, but only a part is type 3.

People use 4c hair for clout. Statistically, there are more people with kinkier hair textures than looser textures. In order to appease a majority of people you have to "relate".

Facts
Facts
@@Monkee101 also facts
Not the point. The point is type for 4 is largely seen as messy and unwanted by most and others will use it to get views. Just because you can't use it doesn't mean the chart is not useful to others. Same for skin. Acne has nothing to do with skin color so getting advice is easy. Foundation shade advice from a white person being a dark skin black person are two different things. Hair advice from a straight haired person as someone with super curly hair are two different things.
The chart was useful to me. But I get your point.

I'm so glad you made this video because some people just really don't know.............
The word “nappy” really came from people’s hair being dry and tangled, it’s not really 4c hair because real 4c hair curls and definition too
You mean coils not curls. 4c hair has no 'curl' as type 3s would say. And definition can be difficult because the coils are so tiny
Coils are the proper term for type 4. Using curl will be holding us to impossible standards and it implies that we are trying to measure ourselves to type 3
We are our own beautiful category
@@Icyjessy1 coils are basically smaller curls
No 4c hair doesn't have definition trust me ur wrong.
theAjeroFamilyyy I disagree you can define 4c hair.
I- why you call me out. Something a lot of people need to understand is 4c is a curl type, not a texture. I have all type 4 hair types in my head.
Zoe Bell BINGO!!

I just say "type 4" and done. Don't got the time to be debating all of that!
Alvina B this too! Because there’s really no way to know and most people have multiple curl patterns in the hair

Alvina B I just say kinky or super coily!
Me too sis. Don't have time to be debating this. Why can't we embrace our hair in peace
The more and more I learn about hair the more I’m starting to realize that the hair typing system (4a,b,c) is kinda irrelevant. As far as the maintenance of hair it’s more important to know your hair’s porosity, and whether it’s fine, medium, course or a mixture. Is it just me?
Catrina Andrade many of the videos by curly youtubers I've seen lately emphasize this point
It kinda matters sometimes. I have 3a but most info I find is by 3c-4 hair types and doesn't help tha much.
4c pattern helps me with styling because I need 5 different products to slick my hair down! You would think because it is fine it would get weighed down easily nope. The curl pattern is so tight it struggles to slick down.

I miss when hair was just hair. This hair typing system has turned into another form of separation and I’m over it 🙄
The system has helped a lot of people in terms of learning to accept and take care of their hair, only when it's used wrongly is it really a detriment.
Facts sis and it’s annoying
praise_worthy _boundary that I have learned is that porosity is wayyy more important than curl pattern. I have type 3 hair and I used watch type 3 haired youtubers and wonder why mine wouldn’t turn out like theirs. Now I’ve started watching people based off of their porosity and my hair looks the best it’s been in a long time.
Beet I feel that sis
Me to
Me with the 3c/4a like “preeeech sister call out the fraudsssss” because when 4a/4b calla I’m 4c it throws off the whole chart because then they say 4a is 3b and 3b is 2 etc
I have a friend with looser curls than me and she labels her hair has 4a/3c. If her hair is 4a then I’m 4c 😭 when I’m 4a on a moisturized day
In my experience 4a’s actually mistakenly label themselves as 4b’s and 4c. If you type in 4a on youtube you mainly see 3c chicks.
Pomodoro because well a lot of us 4as have a mix like me I got 4a in thefront of my head and 3c in the center and back because but majority of our hair is 4a so we say 4a or 3c/4a
tatiana walker Yes! I have 3b/3c/4a hair and this girl with 2c hair tried to claim that she and I had the same hair texture
I thought 4C hair looked different from that?"
Thanks for the video! I learned today :)
yeah there are alot of ignorant people, when they have unhealthy hair then it's 4c, thinking that 4c is a bad hair smh, 4c is beautiful
I have 2b and when i see “4c” hair that doesnt even look like it i’m just like 😐
@@anonymous92388 😁😂🤣🤣🤣😂

OMG 😂
I’m starting to think that the hair typing system is just a social construct 😂. You either have straight, wavy, or curled and coiled hair. I’m to the point where I’m scared to type my hair bc I’m confused about what’s what. Bc I’ve heard many “4C” hair ppl state that their hair coils and not curls though they are the same... I think everyone is just confused as a collective. 😅
Kennady Krea I definitely agree that it could be a social construct!!
It is they don't even learn this in cosmetology school
Thank you. 4c hair is like a flattened spiral spring. 2 inches of hair can roll onto itself and becomes as flat as a sheet of paper.
@@angelafrimpong1026 Exactly!
It’s really upsetting me and my homegirls
Obey Amma 😂
Cz we feel like zaamn if you cant be comfortable with you 4c on ig where the could you go?
Obey Amma if you was beefin at that hair chart you shoulda been beefin at that hair chart

Let’s talk about the people who clearly have 4c but swear their hair is 3b/3c 🙃
Facts
This is so funny cos i don't even know my hair type
constance sanaohiokosi edmund same. I’m watching this because I think I’m 4c but I just want to make sure.
There is this one lady with 4a/4b hair (mostly 4b) and when asked what her hair texture is she goes ya I got the "good hair" its 3c and that makes me sad because not only is she delusional but speaking like that will have an effect on her young daughter who has gorgeous 4c hair.
Uh who cause that’s easy to tell
Girl.... yes! I remember those days and I loved watching Ateya! She turned me on to half wigs before I went natural. LOL
Ateyaa, Smooth Complexions!
Dang.
I don't think that's accurate of you to say.
Anddd WAYYYYY LESS VIEWS🙃🙃🙃 ! We can't complain that our natural hair movement has been hijacked when we aren't making the effort to support YTers who show immense love to theirs and our own curl patterns.
You are right. And should say it
I'm Weird but it’s true. They don’t like their hair and instead of supporting real 4c they choose to watch other textures
Huh?
If I may add my two cents here, it's not very good to describe all the other types of hair either
He actually made it for his personal clients. It's how he kept track of them. People took it and ran with it for us all. But if I have 98 designated clients & I work out a system that works in relation to them that works for me, it's helpful FOR ME. I can share it with u but that doesn't mean it works for all black hair
Your makeup is BOMB Chizi 😍😍😍😍😍❄️
Chidimma Rita the eyes!
and how it matches her shirt 👌🏾
I used to be so obsessed with knowing my hair type and all that. Now I just listen to my hair and keep it moisturized and detangled as much as possible 😊
This is me and I swear my hair likes me better for it I keep it simple and easy.
And that's TEA!!!
And you can’t do anything with it.
soraya .e or “I can’t 4c this happening to my hair” “my hair could never” it irks the hell out of me.
Starpuppy is the queen of that and it gets on my nerves so much!
Bingo
Omg! Thank you. They got me feeling like my hair is off the spectrum😂
Something that also bothers me is when ppl with straight hair, add curls, then they say they have curly hair. Like no sis you don’t.
Omg! This.

I honestly think they don’t know they are 4a. Too many 3c’s are calling themselves 4a and then you got 4a’s thinking their hair is kinkier than it truly is. I’m 4a and for the longest I thought I was 4b/4, because my curls were smaller than those called 4a’s. I mean this chick is a so-called 4a:

then I must be 4f and I KNOW I’m 4a

we need to have a talk about "good hair" in the black community
@@koo-core7274 yes, i never knew what that phrase meant until i reached high school and bc i have 3c hair, i was always getting that comment however it never made me feel good hearing it. like thank you that you like my hair but it pisses me off that ppl believe it's the gold standard and anything that's a 4 type is terrible. i have three sisters and we all have different hair types (me with 3c, my older with 4a, my younger with 4b and then my youngest with 3b) and i could never take a "compliment" like that knowing that they look at my other sisters' hair and don't think the same
@@analouzies exactly, i've seen really long healthy 4c hair as well as short healthy 4c hair and both were beautiful. all hair types have their positives and negatives, like 4s can hold a lot of hair styles better than 3s, etc. ppl just need to learn to love what you have bc no matter the texture it's beautiful so you need to take care of it. we af/ams have such unique hair and we should be proud of that
That part! As long as it's healthy it's good hair.
i have a whole bunch of thoughts on this but to summarize: 1) people need to understand that 4c hair can curl. this whole negative connotation that 4c just will never curl is wrong.
#3.. yes! My mom is 4C but her hair is so soft. I’m 3C/4A and my hair is coarse and dry af.
Crystal O what’s the alternative to max hydration? Just curious. I started max hydration month or so ago... but new to this and learning...
@@crystalo8603 say it louder for the people in the back!

Facts Non 4c hair girls always label their videos wrongly...My hair is 4C and when I look for videos most of them is non relatable.
Absolutely
Every natural under the sun claims that their hair is 4C... I still don't get why people still follow the hair typing system of a man who says that type 4 needs to be relaxed... Why still following that hair typing system? Just saying.
I go off of low porosity, because that's how my hair is. I don't go off of the "hair type"
Right? It started out a guide and turned into gospel.
I agree with you. My hair is kinky and I think I'm 4C but i see girls with loose curls and saying their are 4C then i think to my self there must be a 4D or F.
derilia beaubrun some people are taught there is 4D hair in cosmetology school, you might actually have 4D.
Who developed the typing system?
I would love to see the movement focusing on health over length and stop making people feel like if their hair isn't long down their buttocks it's not worth celebrating. And no I am not some hater I have, tick densed and past shoulders length 4b/4c hair.
