A good way to survive in another country is too put money in dividend producing ETFs or stocks. USA money goes a long way and you’ll get paid while you live overseas.
You have definitely done your homework. I fell in love with la DR. I am originally from El Salvador but I am thinking of putting a five year plan to purchase a home there and hopefully follow your footsteps. The information you provide on your videos is invaluable and others try to charge a fortune for less guidance. Thank you, it motivates me even though I am just at the idea stage of it all.

That was a very important video. When most people think about moving abroad, the cost of shipping their possessions are not at the forefront of their minds. Unless your pockets are deep, the cost of moving should be thought out thoroughly.

Great video. I tell friends, that if they can say their worst day in the Dominican Republic is better than their best day in the USA, then they found home. Very excellent video. Loved it! You guys are doing a great job adding value to peoples life.
Values/Lifestyle Assessment: This is important because what you value will determine your lifestyle and including budget. Are you a consumer, do you need a big house, the newest car etc. Or are you a bohemian type minimalist and need less. Know your values.

You are very welcome. Shipping as much as you can in barrels is the best and cheapest way to ship your household good. Shipping furniture was way to expensive, it's better to buy when you get to DR. And shipping the car was reasonable from Fort Lauderdale it's the taxes when the car arrives that's drives up the cost. Still it was more cost effective for us to ship than buy.

That was a very good video. I have been living in Santo Domingo Este since October 2nd, and I keep pushing my departure date back. I'm now planning on leaving February 15th, but I am, definitely, considering moving here permanently. I am already looking at land, and I have a friend who has a credit union and another friend who has a construction company here. The advice about the car was very informative. I have been renting cars since I've been here, and as you and your husband know, that's very expressive. So, I've been thinking about shipping my car over. Thank you very much for all of the information.

Thank you. How likely is it to rent without a visa? And my lease is ending in a few months. I have a remote job . And I can drive trucks. Can you apply for work without a visa and what advice would you give to move to the DR within a year?
@@wgnwBash Very likely you don't need a visa to rent, but they do require a Dominican as a cosigner. Most companies require you to have a visa to work. Some call centers and hotel resorts don't require it. My first piece of advice to someone moving to the country is make sure you have a way to earn money.

I live in NYC & have a home in St.Croix USVI that I just put up for sale after visiting DR for 2 weeks with my family.There is 100% more value in Dr & the property taxes in the US territories like Puerto Rico are insane..I will be purchasing a home in DR by next winter but will go only in the winter & holidays..Is there a specific area that you would suggest as they are building like crazyin the Punta Cana area..There are real estate signs all over the place in Punta Cana yet IMO it might be more for tourists...Thanks

This is good information and I didn't know you could transfer a vehicle but I guess it can't be older than 5 years. I will be visiting to see if I want to live in the country.
Yes the car that you bring to the country can not be older than 5 years. That is a good idea to visit first to make sure you can adjust to the country.

My RUclips income went up because I started getting more views and it has been very consistent. And when COVID hit, many opportunities online opened up and we were have to find steady online work.
Very good video 👍 am in the process of doing the same thing .....been planning for about two years now .....am going to be pensioned so no need to work....going to buy the vehicle there ( could not get a straight answer about how much it would cost to get it shipped) , have found some good dealers willing to work with me as long as am paying cash $$$....have an apartment and house in Santo Domingo which I won't have to pay rent for parents gave me ownership ( they very happy am the only child going back to live in D.R. ) so even though I live comfortably here in the U.S. I just feel better living in the D.R.....the U.S. has been good to me but it's time to close this chapter and start a new one .....
Very well said and understandable. The car shipping company in Fort Lauderdale is charging me $895 just to ship the car. The taxes once the car arrive is what's so expensive.
@@NorberisR yes that's what I've found out ...getting it there is not the problem ....it's getting out the Duana and the red tape ....I don't want to have to deal with that ....from what I've seen going and looking at cars for sale in the D.R. as long as your paying with U.S. dollars in cash , they will work with you the price...this includes new cars also....from what am seeing I've seen some really nice SUV's from the $12,000 to $15,000 U.S. dollars range .....am talking Audi/Jeep/Mercedes etc....
I am thinking of shipping my car but I am still making payments. I was thinking of trading in my car to offset what I owe. If it's cheaper to ship than to buy then I would like to find a way to get a car there.
If you own your car I personally think it's better to ship because sometimes in DR when you buy used cars you don't know what you are getting. And also, used cars can be really expensive. But if you don't have a car at all the best option maybe just to buy one here.

What type of jobs can you work once you move to DR?
First I don't recommend anyone coming to DR to work to provide a lifestyle because of the low wages. But some people still do it and they work in the hotel industry, schools as teachers, and call centers. Those are the most common.

Yes, that a good amount to live comfortable here.

You can try corotos.com.do Keep in mind that most owners will not rent to you for less than a year. Some may do 6 months but that's a minimum.

Hello Norberis, You and your husband have calculated relocating very wise. The D.R. is where I want to visit for sure. I may want a one bedroom there to vacate after visiting there. I’m still in the South counting down this few months on my lease finally. You were so right about Alabama,Lol.

What all job companies are in D.R for women?
To my knowledge there are not specific jobs just for women. They tend to work where the men work. Unless you are asking something specific that I'm not understanding.

There are no website I know of that covers where to live. Have you done a search on Jarabocoa? What type of information are you looking for in that area?

We are shipping through containers. Those places you mentioned are way too expensive to ship household goods.
@@NorberisR when you mentioned individual cost like a bed frame, I just assumed you didn’t use a container. My understanding with containerized shipment is that the contents are not itemized.
Sounds like you are referring to the huge long container. Im talking about a barrel container and a bed frame of course doesn't fit in there. But the long container is something to look into. Haven't thought about that.

Are you living here in Santo Domingo? In my opinion Punta Cana is a better area for 2 toddlers. There are serveral nice areas in Punta Cana.

Yes some things you can ship in containers if it fits. We plan to do that. But I was referring to mostly our living room and bedroom set. These items were too expensive to ship.

What about if you want to receive your mail from America to the Dominican republic how does that work
I don't recommend using the Dominican mailing system. You can get a PO Box and have it forwarded to a private shipping/mail company. And you can pick it up here. Its typically $3 per pound.
Other than RUclips, what are good online careers to get into, so that I can make a profitable income in the DR? I am moving there in 3yrs, and just looking for a good career to start.
My recommendation is to take what you currently do and see if it can be done online. If not develop and learn a skill that can be done remotely. There are a lot of websites you can find remote work like Upwork.com

I don't know the answer to that. I've heard you still have to pay taxes and I've heard that if you make below a certain amount you don't but I recommend speaking with an accountant.

Will your child be remotely going to school due to the education is different that is one of my concerns for me
Since we have a residence in Florida she will continue to take classes online. Maybe through the 21-22 school year. There are international schools here where it costs from $125 to $350 per child depending on the school. this may also be an option for next school year. But for the remainder of this school year she will take classes online.

Hi Noberis, I have a question and hopefully you can answer it . .. I’m an American that lives in the Dominican Republic in sfm , for over a year . As an investor what brings concerns are rents… there too low! For example I buy a home/apartment for $225,000 factoring the maximum I can get for rent (furnished )it would take me over 30 years to get back my initial investment ( let’s say I bought it cash) .. when house pricing goes up doesn’t rent goes up as well?… from what I’m seeing it doesn’t.. why not? if the economy is growing ? It would be more attractive too investors to see a property that can cash flow with a higher return .. specially if housing is in the rise ? .. thanks in advance.
I understand what you are saying but I'm guessing that you are thinking in buying a new construction property for that amount? to me it is hard to get out your initial investment fast when you buy an investment property paying top value price. And yes rent goes up here as well.
For me I am not a citizen of the DR is your husband a citizen how will that work out do he have dual citizenship Because he’s married to you can you tell me your strategy you and your husband
He can have both maybe they are going to start the process so he can get a dominican ID
We haven't decided as of yet to get his residency. It is in the plan later but you can stay in DR without residency with no issues. Its not really a urgent matter for us.

I don't know who you would need to help you with this. But it sounds like you just need to open a bank account here and have your retirement deposited in you Canadian bank then automatically transferred to you DR bank account.
