I moved to Mexico from Atlanta as a Black women and I say the exact same thing about Mexico! I reminds me of USA in 80s. the good old days when the US was family oriented, not stuck on too much technology, people were more close. I love Mexico. Cheers to your move!
I left NYC at 25 years old and showed up in the DR in 2005 What would be a 90 day experiment to strengthen my Spanish learning became a 3 yr stay and my own biz teaching ESL and then Spanish to expats. Of course, I was one only few Black Americans at the time. Good to see its catching on! Suerte manito
Yessiiirr. I'm going to need to dive into it. My wife is Dominican and she speaks to me in English most. I need to have her start speaking to me in Spanish more often.
@@JayAbroad you gotta refuse to reply in English. Remember those folks in your own city that be like "I dont speak" english, conveniently when they dont need to deal with someone's bs. You have to do that LOL. From now on "you no speak inglês"
This is 100% facts!!! Most Americans will NEVER understand this video. I don’t know you from Adam and I feel the same way! There are a few more issues that you didn’t even mention that would blow the average American’s mind.
Preach. I second this. People, mainly Americans, and even some Europeans think this is the best place on earth. God is starting to open people's eyes to the wickedness.
Love this videos… I’m black Dominican living in New York City and I feel every day what is to be black in America,, as I said I’m Dominican but a dark skin Dominican, soo when white people sees me they see black, but when I open my mouth and they hear my Spanish accent they immediately said, ohh I thought you were black,,ohhh my god, that whole bull shi-- narrative drive my 😝 I go like ,what did you just said…can’t take the level of ignorance in USA,, it’s sooo 1800s…..
@@JayAbroad Jay, thank you for sharing your story. It's the "Wild, Wild, West" in Amerikkka. A BM has a "target" on his back, and need to walk on egg shells no matter where he goes. I've been all over the world and encouraged others to get a passport and travel. You have to access the future because inflation is out of control, jobs going overseas, immigrants coming here getting jobs in Chi-town over BM. A lot are considering Panama, Africa, DR, etc. There is definitely a "narrative & agenda" being pushed. You have peace now. GOD bless you & the family.
I was born and raised in the US, and the level of ignorance is real. The average American doesn't understand other cultures and are ignorant to the world outside the US. And they definitely don't understand Latinos including our diversity, the melting pot of races and sub cultures that make us who we are.
Jay, you hit the nail on the head with the reasons you stated. I feel the same way. It just doesn't make sense anymore. I was born in D.R. but was raised in NYC. I never imagined in a million years that I would consider living in the D.R. and now I am considering any and all options because USA ain't it. I'm tired of the grind and the division. My parents came to the US in the 70s for a better life and I guess for awhile, it was better but I feel like we are going backwards now. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome. I feel ya. Many people feel like you and me. Some don't want to accept the fact the US is spiraling out of control. If you have the opportunity to get out. Take the chance. I tell people if it doesn't work you can always go back.
@@nakho3550 Bruh, I don't give a damn about David Ortiz or how he feels or who else is fleeing the island. I do what I want to do. If it's working for me. That's what matters. If you think it's going backwards you don't have to move here. No one is asking you to move to DR. And if you believe it is you don't know what you are talking about.
my parents also moved to ny in the 70s they move to The Bronx where I was born and you right shit is backwards here ppl here in The U.S. make make alot of money just for the machine ,I realize The U.S. is one big slave plantation and i hope
As a Dominican myself I’m working my butt off to go back to my country. When I came 7 years ago, I was always surrounded by family and friends and out of nowhere I was here by my own. In this country I witnessed so many things I thought I would only see in movies, so much tension everywhere I go that would not let me live in peace, but when I visit my beautiful patio 🇩🇴it’s like a dream that I wished I’ll never wake up…
I've heard this before from a Dominican. That when you get to the US everyone is glad to see you then all of it wears off and everyone is back to their own lives. That's just US culture.
I'm 26 (about to be 27) single, no kids. I went to Bangkok, Thailand solo, for my first international trip. The way of life is so much better outside of America. it's like you have peace of mind. Once I have everything set up here. I'm definitely moving out the country.
Yesssiiir, i try to tell some of my friends that you have to leave the country and you'll realize you've been hoodwinked. Life is much better outside the states.
Bro you hit the nail on the head. One thing you forgot was the healthcare. Some many people have the slightest idea what life is outside America. I definitely appreciate the video.
@@standelasanantone2180 I believe that things always play out the way they should be. In DR we live close to her family now and she wants to get another place and not live some close. So we can have our privacy and see what I go through in the US and her other family from DR goes through and she just wants to visit.
Totally agree. I have been living abroad for 3 1/2 years for these same reasons. And even the main reason that the U.S. is a great place to make money has become a moot point, because the cost of living takes everything you are busting your behind to make. Peace is priceless. I love the decison I made to move abroad.
I have been living here in DR Since sept 2022 I lived in Nyc 21 years and 3 years in tennesse and I was done with US im so happy here back at my land and planning to get a piece a land in the mountains to just really chill. Great video much love, prosperity and life for you and your family.
You got a great channel Jay. I’m moving my family of 5 to Bosnia next year. As an immigrant in America I have experienced xenophobia and racism many times. I had to work twice as hard to compete with people “who just had the right name”. I have tested with by using a name Anthony Jennings on my resume and would get calls immediately. Best of luck and keep it up.
Damn, it doesn't surprise me. And people try to convince us it doesn't exist. I agree it can't stop you but as you said you have to jump through hoops just to be successful. Why deal that when you don't have to.
You got a small taste of what the BM has been experiencing all their lives. Having a certain "accent" or "cultural sounding name" will get your application tossed in "File 13" (trash) regardless of your degree & qualifications. Best of luck to you & the family in Bosnia.
I’m Colombian, living in the US since 6 years ago. One of the main reasons why I plan to raise my kids outside of the US is the racism. I want their foundational years to be healthy emotionally and socially.
Well how un-american of you to not want to continue with our most basic morals and traditions such as racism, why would you want to deprive your kids the right to grow up in a racist country?
2021 is where I picked back up my traveling journey’s after spending a month in Europe in 2017. Living in Portugal, Spain and Brasil opened my eyes back up to the realization that the _New American Dream_ is to LEAVE.
@@blue18404 I left the US with my daughter last year to go to Costa Rica. No plans to ever go back. Even if it doesn't work out, I'll go somewhere else before going back to the US. I am going to take your question as a serious one and do my best to answer. You've got to work backwards by thinking about how you want your life to be, not your job. Start with how you want a typical weekday to go, then a typical weekend. Break it down by morning, afternoon and evening. (Be as detailed as you want. There are no wrong answers. You can schedule out your day by hours, blocks or just typical things that you want to accomplish as the day progresses. Be sure to think about everything even the basic stuff like shopping up to things like volunteering or hanging out with friends.) Once you have that figured out, you have to ask yourself why you don't have that now. If the main reason is money, then you gotta figure out how to make more money or need less money. When I did this exercise, I chose the 'need less money' option and started looking at the cost of living in other countries. Where could I go to get the lifestyle that I want at a cheaper price? There are websites dedicated to the cost of living in other countries. Once you figure out how much money you need in the new place then the question is can you work there? Or can you work remotely from the US and spend your money in a new place? In most cases, countries that have lower cost of living also have lower wages, so if you can continue to earn high wages in the US, then you can just spend less in your new place and probably live better than you do in the US. It's kind of a hack in that sense. Now you may think that your current job can't be remote. You might ask your boss if you can work remote, not cuz you wanna leave the country - think of something else to say. They don't need to know where you are and you can get a VPN to mimic being anywhere in the world. Same thing if you look for a new job, no one needs to know where you are. You will have to still file US taxes anyway, so yeah. [SIDE NOTE: You will need to maintain a US address. Use a friend or family members spot] Also, try looking your job title up online and see if there are remote opportunities in other companies. Another option is to think on the skills you have and how many of them might be transferable to a different job or career. Just because you have been a (insert job title here) for the last few years doesn't mean you can't be something else now. At the moment, the US passport is very strong and can get you into a lot of countries around the world for 90 days on up to a year in some places. If you can get a remote job, then you can go country shopping. Just pack up and go to a new place and check it out for a few months. Find an Airbnb that's not in a touristy area so you can see what life is like there. If you don't know another language, don't worry, there are lots of places where English is the second language. In the meantime, start learning a new language to give yourself more flexibility. I would say that Spanish is your best bet. Spanish is the official language of 21 countries. That should be enough info to get you started. Good luck!
I moved myself and my kids to Thailand. Being concerned about being unalived was too much. I had a healthy concern about the daily crime that exist there. The food was also an issue and the price of just daily living was terrible. My quality of life has increased. My anxiety is gone and my nervous system is not on 10 everyday. We have been here for about 2 years and it's the best decision I could have made for us.
Thanks for sharing this. Definitely understand what you mean. Put your story so people to hear. Just an improvement in your health is reason enough for people to leave because we only get one opportunity on this earth as far as we know.
The hatred of the USA is unmatched. Like you said Dr can be racist in certain places but never at the level of the USA. Dominicans can't fathom that level of hatred at all.
@@margaritagarzon8184 but to speak on racism and then pivot to the “feminization of men” as a negative with images of I’m assuming members of the 🌈 is interesting to me. You all do understand that the sentiments you all have about the 🌈 community is the same that some racists have about you? They don’t care about your race or culture just don’t throw it in their face and leave their children out of it. Like singing the blaq national anthem at major sports events, kneeing for the national anthem in protest of 👮 brutality, Juneteenth, and even blaq history month. Not saying that I agree but they don’t want no parts of it. I never understood homophobia in the blaq community. It just seems so hypocritical to me. I know for some it’s their religious beliefs but I don’t believe that’s the case for most.
Oh God everything you say in this video is soo real! That is why I’m packing and leaving. I love New York yes, but is crazy here you can’t make it anymore. I don’t know why I feel so relaxed as soon as I land in the DR. Love my country!
Thank you for your video. To leave the U.S. do you have to give up your citizenship and apply for citizenship in the DR and do you still have to pay taxes to the IRS? Thank you
Really enjoyed your video, Jay and so happy to see us black Americans moving out of the US! My reasons in the future to relocating to South Africa is ALL of the reasons you mentioned. I'm so happy for you my brotha!
i currently live in NYC. I feel my personality has changed a lot from 10-year living in the US. I became cynical, sometimes angry, stressed. I plan to leave in 2 years.
Jay, I totally agree I grew up in the 70’s and these are some of the exact same reason (and more) I decided to move to the DR, I’ve been visiting the country since 2015 and on my first visit 3 days in I decided right then and there this is were I was going to retire to! Another excellent vid my brother!
THANK YOU so much for sharing your story! These are some of the same reasons I want to leave.....and the DR has been my dream for years. Your videos are making the decision easy!!
You are 100 percent correct about the classism part of DR, as a country we are not racist. We don’t call blacks, Afro dominicans, they are just dominicans. Is all about money and status, even if you come from Haiti, and people see you are a professional or business man/woman, they will treat you with respect
I disagree with you. I work with many Dominicans in a huge organization. They are racist. They only take care of each other and they deal with blacks only if they have to. Other than that it’s all about them. They are extremely blatant about it. All races at my job complain about them. It’s bad. They are like the Jewish people. They stick together and only hook up each other. Don’t sleep. They are also called nationalists
That seems like a very unhealthy culture/society. I thought one of the worst things about the US was exactly the fact that everyone is chasing money and status.
@@Tiffany-fp6fb “The West” as it was since 1945 …North America 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 and West Europe 🇫🇷 🇮🇹 🇧🇪 🇬🇧 🇨🇭 🇩🇪 🇸🇪 is fading away … due to several factors not mentioned in this video. In 20-30 years … there will be no “The West”. Urbanization will be much different.
Brotha as a 70's male I couldn't agree with you more...good luck with your success. I'll be living there soon aswell, just getting my Spanish together and about to retire. Been traveling all my life and always had a void in my life when returning to the US.
Bro, I don't recommend working over here because the salary is really low. But if that doesn't matter I would recommend a call center here in Santo Domingo. They usually pay somewhere around $700 to $1000 per month depending on the call center and the bonus structure. It's probably one of the highest paying unskilled job here. They are always looking for English speakers.
@@alexispichardo6090salaries here are low, that’s mainly the reason why so many Dominicans migrate to wealthier countries like the US, moving to DR from the US mostly works for the retirees, cuz they get their paychecks in USD or unless you have some business venture that you think might be successful down here, otherwise, I don’t recommend moving over here.
Great video brother. My wife is Dominican and I definitely intend on us making th transition out of the U.S and to the Dominican Republic. I was just there in December and have been there before. Definitely feel the freedom there more than the U.S. Thanks for the upload and continue living your best life 💪🏿💪🏿
What you are saying is so true, i lived in D.R and South Africa and hands down, the D.R wins and i will be moving back to the D.R in May and i can not wait
you provided some great information. I have been talking to my husband about moving from the US. I'm looking for a slower paste, better quality of life. Low crime rate, friendly. I love small town and rural areas. I live in a small town now, I'm in the DMV area, and everyone I come across has Cancer, I lost my mother and sister to cancer. I think its in our food. I have been doing a lot of research on other countries and their quality of food is healthier. Thanks for the info.
@@JayAbroad oh yeah he is ready! He watches these RUclips video with me all the time. I never thought about the D.R but that’s on the list now. We have to take a trip out there. Thanks
The DR has a lot of pricessed foods. I just came back yesterday from ounta cana and i was in higuey and santo domingo. Processed food everywhere. However if youre in the country or one of the bigger grocery stores its the exact opposite. Super freah food everywhere.
True, am french traveling into US and am very surprise about the very bad quality of food and mostly the dangerous habit of the people with the junk food...pizza, burger XL with industrial sauce, soda XXL, health problems will be a distaster for the incoming generations...as you said yes, bad food has a negative impact to health and the best field to developp cancer.
🎯🎯🎯 I’m from Canada and I can say that 99% of what you said applies to Canada as well ! My country is nothing like the Canada I grew up in when I was a kid …. Your video is very refreshing and I can totally relate! After visiting the DR 5 times I can say with confidence that I will live there in the near future. On my last trip 3 weeks ago, I felt more at home in DR than in the last 5 years in Canada. Hope to see more of this type of video and thanks for your courage to talk about these subjects that go against the plan and the “narrative” 🇩🇴
I love Canada 🇨🇦 but also like Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 both places are good to live, my husband is from Jamaica and grew up here in United States, I was born here in NYC and we travel all over the world but we always go every year to the Dominican Republic visiting different resorts Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, La terrena, jarabacoa, Santiago etc…Right now I am in Jamaica 🇯🇲 on vacation but next stop it’s Santiago..I invite everyone to visit Dominican Republic, it’s a beautiful city❤nyc
Subscribed! I agree with all of your points. It’s an eye opening experience when the U.S is seen from an outside prospective. I believe many Americans never realize there’s a whole other world outside the states. Great video brother! Loved it. Keep the content coming.
The most important thing in the life of a human being is to have Jesus Christ in your heart, serve God with all your heart and no matter where you are, if you have God with you, you will be fine, may God bless you.
People have faith in Christ and live in war torn countries for them it matters where you live. People have economic struggles or corrupt government that they seek refuge. While Christ in your life is important it does matter for some people in different walks of life where they physically live
You are 100% correct. Unless, Jesus is telling you to get out of Babylon America. Which is where I think I am with the Lord. Obedience is always better than sacrifice. But again, you are still correct. Christ gives you peace that surpasses all understanding.
Hi Jay. That was on point. I’m a firstborn generation American. My mom is Dominican and my dad Puerto Rican. I’ve been watching Norberis’s videos, among others, to get a pulse of sentiment from expats. I’ve been going to the DR(Santiago) since I was 2, since we have family in that city. I retired from the Marine Corps in 2016, full pension. The wife retires in 2034, so we’re waiting on her pension. Also waiting for our son to graduate from college,we don’t want to take any kids. My wife is gringa, German-American . We’ve been debating becoming expats for ALL the reasons you stated(DR, Argentina or Colombia). Your video was straight to the point. If we move to the DR, it’ll be north coast, we’ll start looking in 2030. I was in PP and Santiago in March 2023. We’ll be in PP in May on a cruise stop, and I plan to give the wife a great tour for about 7 hours. However,we’ll have to make multiple trips lasting weeks after 2030,I’m sure things will be a little different with the new train systems in place. Jay,have a great life in the DR and thanks again. The US is unbearable.
My first assignment in the US Army was to Germany. With 2 small children, I arrived in November and faced freezing temperatures and about three feet of snow. I was born in the south, so the cold weather and snow were so new to me. I traveled when I could and fell in love with this country and its people. I had other assignments in the U.S., but Germany kept calling my name. Retiring here after 22 years of military service, I can honestly say that I have never experienced any racism or discrimination because of the color of my skin. I have experienced levels of acceptance, respect, kindness, and courtesy, which I never had in the U.S. I still love my country, but it is not what it used to be with all the escalating racism, hatred, gun violence, and divisiveness. I feel much safer here, and I am at peace here, and here is where I will stay.😊
Man, congratulations. I love to hear stories like this. Hopefully I'm able to get to Germany one day. The cold weather is my only issue...lol! I'm from the South too, Alabama and me and cold weather don't get along😅
God bless you and your family. I'm dominican residing jersey and i love the way you love my country and saying the truth. ❤😂 you're the best dominican ambassador.❤😂
You mentioned about not being comfortable in public and people on edge in the states..i agree. Im always looking over my shoulder and prefer to be home, honestly. I was in Santo Domingo one Sunday night last year walking around on the Malecon near the amusement park area and tons of people out until the wee hours, young and elderly just having a good time with no fighting, shooting etc. Try that in the US. Racism, i agree. In the DR i feel at home and relaxed when there versus the states where i never did. Material wise, we have so much wealth in the states yet miserable and while many Dominicans don't have a lot of things, they are happy and prioritize family and friendships. And yes I know that the DR has its flaws for sure. Please forgive the long post but had to respond and excellent video 👏🏾 keep enjoying.
I tell Norberis this all the time when we pass by or hang out on the malecon. You see people of all ages and families and nothing goes down. That would not happen in many parts of the US.
I agree so much with this smart man. I plan to relocate to Mexico. Every time I go to Mexico on vacation, I don’t want to come back. The last time I was there in November 2023 and I felt anxious knowing I was going back. I got to get the hell out of here.
Yes, this is all true as I’ve experienced exactly what Jay is sharing..this is on point and I experienced that weight dropping off my first visit to DR at airport when the door opened
Great video! I retired from the military and returned home to Jamaica in 2021. I agree with you on every point you made. I agree that the feeling of blending in with everyone and not being judged based on skin color is hard to explain but it feels so good!
Love this video. As a Dominican living in the US, this totally resonates with me. I thought I was the only one feeling like everyone in the US is on edge....keep up the good content brother, I'm glad u are enjoying my country, just be careful with the jewelry down there and you'll be fine.
Thanks fam. Brother I'm fine even with my jewelry on. DR is not as bad as people make it out to be. Of course I'm not walking in the streets with jewelry on, I wouldn't do that in the States. I take the same precautions here as I do in the States and I'm OK.
I mma tell you something, you are brave for taking that big and impactfull decision to live here in my country. Only few people are brave enough to do what you did. Maybe some day we meet and share a Presidente...!
I'm a South african married to a Haitian American I'm here and happy and we finally closed our apartment in America we living our best life here and same reasons for me I chose this Country over my own country I love it here
@JayAbroad One person's trash is another person's treasure. Well said and when certain people find out the American dream ain't all what it's cooked up to be their tune changes immediately quick. I've seen it on jobs so brother Jay keep doing your thing and bigs an props up to you.
OMG! I love your cooking channel, ALL WINGS EVERYTHING, and had no idea you were no longer in the U.S.! Well congrats and continued blessings to you and family. ❤️👏🏽🙏🏽
I so appreciate your views. As someone who has similar concerns as you, living abroad sounds better and better! Attempting to figure out a way to do it is the challenging part.
Great video. I just bought a home in my ancestral country in my grandparents home town. In the next year, I will be retiring there and living there permanently. The reasons why I'm moving there: 1) Much better social scene. I have way more friends there than I do in the US. 2) Healthcare. There's no need to buy health insurance because you're automatically covered as a resident and don't have to worry about medical bill debt. 3) No property taxes 4) Don't need money to have a good time. 5) All of the food is natural. Not processed garbage that makes everybody fat like in the US. 6) Better work and life balance. I don't have to work from 5am until 2am the next morning, go home and then have to be back at work at 5am with hardly no rest and repeat.
Everything you stated here is why we're moving back to the island this summer. By the way, black Americans have been migrating to DR since the early 1800s. Look at the history of Samana. There are lots of African American dependents there, and it's quite interesting. Good luck! Hopefully, I'll see you there someday soon!
I visited Haiti for a short while and was impressed with the joy and happiness the people there have in spite of their poverty. We could certainly learn some lessons from them.
My brother!! keep kicking them facts man!! you 100% on point here! I just saw Norberis video the other day, teaching how to make mamajuana.... one of my favorites, including that Leyenda! I'm hoping to get back over there sometime next year on vacation... Hope to get to meet you guys! you'll do nice work bro!!
Thank you for sharing🙏. You are right, there is no perfect place on earth but there is a place that is perfect at certain times in a persons life. And all you said and more is correct about America. I long to find a way to make a fix income that can allow me to move out of America. Do you know of certain income, ways to generate income?
I totally agree with you brother. I am a child of 80's. Things were so different. I don't know what happened here in the US. I see more people like yourself. You have seen the light.
I'm planning to move to Mexico. I want to take my car but I have to get out of the US first. Meaning, I'm a black women who will drive alone through the south to get to Mexico. I'm not afraid to drive all that way... I just want to actually make it. That's not going to stop me, I will figure all of this out! I gotta go!!
Staying in Germany after retiring from the military 11 years ago was the best decision I ever made. I had to leave the US to live the American dream narrative free.
Army/Marine veteran here. I left when I retired and have lived and worked in some interesting places in the last 12 years. I can agree with and understand all the reasons you listed and glad you found your place in the sun. Peace!
I was really feeling you till we got to the feminization of men part. However as you said in the beginning, we can all have different opinions. Thank you for the previous break down. Those are all reasons I would like to leave as well.
You make very valid points. The rat race, the tension, and the division have gotten totally out of control in recent years. Like you, I don't think the U.S.A. is perfect, but that doesn't mean either of us hate America. I've lived in my city for almost 30 years and when I moved here, it was a good place for me but now I'm not so sure. If things don't change, I'll probably leave once I retire. Quality of life is very important, and it has taken a nosedive in recent years in the U.S. I'd like to live somewhere calmer and where there's actually a sense of community. Thanks for your insights.
@@JayAbroad Thanks for the response. The one thing I forgot to mention is how men are negatively portrayed in media these days. I find it offensive to say the least. I remember seeing glimmers of this negativity towards men starting to appear in the 70s and 80s, and now it's all over and it's not good. I'm hoping things improve, but I can't see that happening anytime soon. Keep giving us the great insights!
Jay, it's crazy how you and me think a like. Maybe because I graduated high school back in 1989. Back then you could send your kids to school and the worse thing to happen was a fist fight. you either win or lose, but you didn't die! I live in Palm Beach County now and it's crazy expensive, and the crime and division has gotten out of hand. My wife and I are strongly considering moving to a new country not as expensive, lower crime with conventional "old Skool" values. If someone told me 10 years ago I would consider moving to the Dominican Republic, I would have called them crazy. Turns out I am the crazy one because my wife and I are seriously considering this now! We watch you and your wife's videos all the time, and sometimes twice for the education we need in making this decision. I'm African American and would love to be around my own race of people that are not infatuated with continuous "black on black" crime like here in the U.S.
Yessiiirr I know exactly what you talking about. I seen the the same 2 dudes fight at least 10 during a school year when I was in grade school. You're out your mind if you think 2 dudes gonna fight a second time let alone 10 times nowadays. Hell the first time might even be the last time...lol! And one of the things I love about being in DR is being around people that look like me. You're not a minority. If you and your wife feel the way yall feel moving out the country has to be a good option.
THIS-->--> --> "If someone told me 10 years ago I would consider moving to the Dominican Republic, I would have called them crazy." And even more crazy is the fact that my mom has a house in Santo Domingo that I've never even seen!! Maybe it's time to get reaquainted with my roots. 😊
I'm dying to move there, but need to find a remote job if some sort, that would let me work from DR. Any recommendations? That's the only thing holding me back.
Yes I been thinking of it I’ve been there 5times throughout whole country except Santo Domingo it’s my last stop for the DR. You are 100 percent correct. The vibe and the cost of living are my main reasons.
Hi Jay, I'm an American citizen born in DR. I lived in the United States for almost 30yrs. I just moved to DR few months ago, and I love it. I agreed with everything you said. The United States is a great country, but things are changing and not for good. Life in the United States is all about working and paying bills. I used to work 6 days straight from Sunday to Friday, 12-15 hrs per day, that's not life! Which you the best in our beautiful Island!
GOOD FOR YOU! So happy you have found your place! I am a white grandma living in SC...after retiring from the EU. What a negative wake-up call coming "home". OMG, bc of all of your reasons, I have been trying to leave the US for over a year. All I have in this life are my rescue cats - I will not abandon them like everyone has me. Mexico is setting their sights on rich foreigners, and sentiments are rising there against expats, as well. Soon as I get my Spanish conversational I'm going to visit...I've never felt like I belonged in America though born here. I long for a place where I'm no longer prejudged/prejudice based on my melanin. This place was never awesome but now? It's a cesspool. I have two children who are with my ex till they're older. I need to establish myself in another country so that they can escape this sinking ship...thanks for your experiences, much appreciated
Yessiiirr brother I feel ya pain. DR for me is that place where I'm not prejudged because the color of my skin. They look at me as a human being. It's a huge weight off my shoulder. Some people have different experiences but this is mine. There are many places that you can go where this is the case. I have a grade school daughter and there was no way I was going to send her to a public school in the US. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Any countries in particular you have on your list?

Over 40 years ago, i told BP to learn conversational Spanish, get a Latin friend to practice with, or I'll teach them. (Cussed me out, told me they wasn't learning s**t!) Now, can't get hired unless they speak Spanish, & now "hot as fish grease!" I will be traveling to CO, DR, Panama, etc. and considering moving as well. My advice: GO! Don't let anyone stop you. It is true what your saying,I went to Africa in february and that's when I felt that I was black for sure, i'm from the uk and there is no opportunity here for black people and get treated like rubbish. America is good for making money but that's all it is.
I'm thinking about moving out of America but my husband is not trying to move. I feel the same way you feel. I have two sons and a nephew that I am taking care of and we're black. Also the violence and the working all of the time. There is no time for self or the family. The American dream is dead!
I've been living outside of my country for 30 years. I've traveled to more than 50 countries. Lived in DR for a few years and honestly I miss that place. The people are amazing, the food is wonderful and the island is beautiful. What's not to love? We only get one lap in life. You gotta live life on your terms. Enjoy your content and glad you have found your little piece of paradise. Respect.
Hey My Brother, great presentation of the information. I agree with all your points. The important thing is you imposed a discipline on your decision. Well done, thank you.
Moved to Thailand nearly 6 months ago and I absolutely love it here!! Exceeds my expectations more and more the longer I'm here. Leaving America has me feeling like I've added years to my life.
I have always been against the idea of working just to pay bills. Running the robotic rat race is nonsense. So I made sure to travel abroad as much as I could and began making plans to move to USVI up until I unexpectedly became the full-time caregiver to both my parents in 2017 (my mom passed in 2020). I still have the desire to move abroad, but I'm rethinking the idea of moving to a US territory. My interests now are much broader than they were 9 years ago. The only difference now, is convincing an elder parent (my 73 year old dad) that it's just as good for their well-being as it is for mine. Thanks for sharing your story. It was a pleasure.
Your comment well taken and I enjoyed you stating your opinion and rationale. You gave quality points and made plenty of sense. I do appreciate you for sharing your reasons for which you left America and giving your 5 reasons was great. You speak the truth and I hope that I will leave America one day myself along with my husband.
You nailed every single one of your points and argued positively on each one. I couldn’t agree with you more, I’m Dominican and I’ve been living in the US for the majority of my life. Something that many black American don’t know is that in the DR we never had segregation either. A few years back I saw a video talking about black American baseball players that went over to the DR to play back when those segregation laws were in place. I felt happy for them.
I visit Santo Domingo frequently and have family in Villa Mella I agree with everything that was said. I am treated very well a lot better than here in America. I understand spanish I am Puerto Rican/Dominican and not once have I heard the color silliness that I hear in America that a lot of people love to talk about and thats within all groups of people.
Exactly homie. I'll say for you, it's Black Americans who started that silly nonsense and continue to perpetuate it. No one here is thinking about that color nonsense. These people look at themselves as Dominicans period. They don't have to identify as anything else just to please Black Americans. I'm a Black American and I identify as such because that's the country I grew up in and that's how they identify you there. Dominican Republicisn't like that they don't divide their citizens up by race. Its simple to understand yet they continue this b.s.

How do I leave?
Be sure to think about everything even the basic stuff like shopping up to things like volunteering or hanging out with friends.)
Once you have that figured out, you have to ask yourself why you don't have that now.

You are 100 percent correct about the classism part of DR, as a country we are not racist. We don’t call blacks, Afro dominicans, they are just dominicans. Is all about money and status, even if you come from Haiti, and people see you are a professional or business man/woman, they will treat you with respect

Subscribed! I agree with all of your points. It’s an eye opening experience when the U.S is seen from an outside prospective. I believe many Americans never realize there’s a whole other world outside the states. Great video brother! Loved it. Keep the content coming.
Bingo, when you look at it from the outside it looks like circus. Thanks for watching.
@checkthemikecrophone9050 I don't know you but your correct!
You are 100% correct. Unless, Jesus is telling you to get out of Babylon America. Which is where I think I am with the Lord. Obedience is always better than sacrifice. But again, you are still correct. Christ gives you peace that surpasses all understanding.
Amen man, but this is still the real world.
@scottneilson1597 Well said sir!
Thanks homie, I appreciate you sharing this. I know everything will work out for you in choosing the right place for you and your wife.
@@JayAbroad Thanks for your response, but I'm a lady.😊
@@JayAbroad I'm from New Orleans.
God bless you and your family. I'm dominican residing jersey and i love the way you love my country and saying the truth. ❤😂 you're the best dominican ambassador.❤😂
Oh wow, I appreciate that. I truly like the country.
@@JayAbroad true very true.
I agree so much with this smart man. I plan to relocate to Mexico. Every time I go to Mexico on vacation, I don’t want to come back. The last time I was there in November 2023 and I felt anxious knowing I was going back. I got to get the hell out of here.
I understand the feeling. Make it happen. Congratulations 🎊
Bro! You make me think a lot everything you said is true my head hurt I got to get outta here that peace of mind is priceless
You can't put a value on a piece of mind.
Thanks fam. If only people can experience that one part would be a game changer in their lives.
Jay you're so on point about America. It's crazy here in the US. I working on a way to come live in DR.
I don't blame you bro. Glad you're working to get out💪🏾
Uncle Jay you are a natural as a podcaster! Viva Santo Domingo! ASE!
💪🏾💪🏾
Everything u said is 100! I get a lil emotional leaving RD every time. My soul tells me to stay! 2 more years im retiring and moving.
I feel ya. I use to be the same way before I moved here.
I'm glad for you brother. I've been living in Jamaica since 2020 and I know exactly what you're talking about.
Yesssiir 💪🏾 💪🏾 💪🏾. I'm sure you are enjoying yourself there.
Yes I am. I met my wife in 2015 she's a Jamaican, we got married in 2016 when COVID hit I came here and never looking back. To God be the glory.
Great choice. I applaud you. One of the best Caribbean country to live and raise a family.
We agree!
I mma tell you something, you are brave for taking that big and impactfull decision to live here in my country. Only few people are brave enough to do what you did. Maybe some day we meet and share a Presidente...!
Yessiiirr I love a Presidente tan fria😅
I'm a South african married to a Haitian American I'm here and happy and we finally closed our apartment in America we living our best life here and same reasons for me I chose this Country over my own country I love it here
That's awesome. One person's trash is another person's treasure. Not saying the US is trash to me but you get the point. Congratulations 🎊
@JayAbroad One person's trash is another person's treasure. Well said and when certain people find out the American dream ain't all what it's cooked up to be their tune changes immediately quick. I've seen it on jobs so brother Jay keep doing your thing and bigs an props up to you.
Wow! I’m a Haitian American looking to move to South Africa!
Thank you. If figuring it out mean how you're going to make money that is challenging part. Outside of that everything else is easy at least for me.
So true. I am always watching my back in the supermarket
Great video. I just bought a home in my ancestral country in my grandparents home town. In the next year, I will be retiring there and living there permanently. The reasons why I'm moving there:
1) Much better social scene. I have way more friends there than I do in the US.
2) Healthcare. There's no need to buy health insurance because you're automatically covered as a resident and don't have to worry about medical bill debt.
3) No property taxes
4) Don't need money to have a good time.
5) All of the food is natural. Not processed garbage that makes everybody fat like in the US.
6) Better work and life balance. I don't have to work from 5am until 2am the next morning, go home and then have to be back at work at 5am with hardly no rest and repeat.
All the above are some of my reasons except #2
What country are you speaking of❓
Everything you stated here is why we're moving back to the island this summer.
By the way, black Americans have been migrating to DR since the early 1800s. Look at the history of Samana. There are lots of African American dependents there, and it's quite interesting.
Good luck! Hopefully, I'll see you there someday soon!
Yessiir, i feel ya bro. Get out of the mess over there if you can. When you do we have to have a cold presidente together!
I'm glad you found such a peaceful, beautiful place to raise your family. One day I'll do the same because America surely isn't my home💯💯💯
Thank you for the kind words. And yes go where you are treated best.
I appreciate Keith. Let's us know when you are back in the country
100/100 agreed! I am glad I'm not on my own island in regard to seeing what's happening in the states.
Thank you for sharing🙏. You are right, there is no perfect place on earth but there is a place that is perfect at certain times in a persons life. And all you said and more is correct about America. I long to find a way to make a fix income that can allow me to move out of America. Do you know of certain income, ways to generate income?
If you have a skill set you can advertise your services on websites like Upwork. This is where I got my first freelance contract.
I totally agree with you brother. I am a child of 80's. Things were so different. I don't know what happened here in the US. I see more people like yourself. You have seen the light.
Yessiirr i saw the writing on the wall.
I think you are spot on. Things change over time. I have been following international dating and living for the past 30 years.
Congratulations. I know that feeling of needing to leave. I pray your drive goes without any hiccups and make it to your destination safely.
Staying in Germany after retiring from the military 11 years ago was the best decision I ever made. I had to leave the US to live the American dream narrative free.
I ain't mad at ya. Trust me I understand now...
Army/Marine veteran here. I left when I retired and have lived and worked in some interesting places in the last 12 years. I can agree with and understand all the reasons you listed and glad you found your place in the sun. Peace!
Thanks bro, I appreciate it.
Great presentation I agree with you.
Thanks i appreciate that.
I was really feeling you till we got to the feminization of men part. However as you said in the beginning, we can all have different opinions. Thank you for the previous break down. Those are all reasons I would like to leave as well.
Thats fine. Brother we don't have to agree on everything. I don't expect anyone to feel like me. These are my reasons.
You’re definitely correct bro. So many are struggling financially. The only citizens doing well are the people who live off the government!!
Them and the 10% that's already wealthy
You dropped some valuable insight in this vid bro 💯 Congrats on the channel, I know you’re going to do great things with it
Appreciate that bro. And you already know you and I got to do something together it's only right💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

Yessiiirr totally understand. The quality of life is no more. It's all based on productivity. Time to start looking for that place for yourself.
Yep. Time to give Santo Domingo a try a now on your next trip.🙏🏾
@@JayAbroad yes I’ll be own there in October any places you can recommend send them my way. I’m hearing San Pedro, Downtown, or Don Julio

I appreciate that fam. That's definitely the American way. Glad you were able to get away from that.
Wao! Totally agree with you. I’m Dominican and American. I am planning moving back to DR for the same reasons you just mentioned. Thanks 🙏!
If you do your quality of life will change instantly🙏
GOOD FOR YOU! So happy you have found your place!
I am a white grandma living in SC...after retiring from the EU.
What a negative wake-up call coming "home". OMG, bc of all of your reasons, I have been trying to leave the US for over a year. All I have in this life are my rescue cats - I will not abandon them like everyone has me.
Mexico is setting their sights on rich foreigners, and sentiments are rising there against expats, as well.
With Putin's war reeking havoc on the Europeans $$$, it isn't a great time to move back there. I haven't seen my grandkids since before the pandemic. Can't afford to fly the cats overseas either. 😢 Praying for a better day 🙏
Enjoy your best life! I enjoyed your video.
Yes ma'am better days will come. Thank you. I pray you're able to move out soon.
@@JayAbroad hmmm...DR, I have a friend with properties in Belize I want to visit, Philippines, and I want to see Rwanda...seems like great progress is happening there
...but first I'm visiting a Spanish speaking country.
All seem like great places. Either one would be a better choice than the US.
You deserve safety, happiness, and to live & walk the streets without fear of your life. Good luck! ✈🌍🏝🥭🥥
It is true what your saying,I went to Africa in february and that's when I felt that I was black for sure, i'm from the uk and there is no opportunity here for black people and get treated like rubbish. America is good for making money but that's all it is.
Bingo!💪
I'm thinking about moving out of America but my husband is not trying to move. I feel the same way you feel. I have two sons and a nephew that I am taking care of and we're black. Also the violence and the working all of the time. There is no time for self or the family. The American dream is dead!
What the hesitation as to why your husband doesn't want to move?
I've been living outside of my country for 30 years. I've traveled to more than 50 countries. Lived in DR for a few years and honestly I miss that place. The people are amazing, the food is wonderful and the island is beautiful. What's not to love? We only get one lap in life. You gotta live life on your terms. Enjoy your content and glad you have found your little piece of paradise. Respect.
Well said, nothing I can add to that but thanks!
IDK what is ur profession, but the analysis you do right here is a perfect one.

Hey My Brother, great presentation of the information. I agree with all your points. The important thing is you imposed a discipline on your decision. Well done, thank you.
Yessiiirr a decision like this is important and one needs to make sure everything is in place to ensure a smooth transition.

I'm sure you do. I heard it was nice out there. Congrats! Enjoy yourself.
Good content. I left America as well. Currently in the Philippines but looking at Thailand for long term stay .
Thanks. Congrats, bro on your move.
Moved to Thailand nearly 6 months ago and I absolutely love it here!! Exceeds my expectations more and more the longer I'm here. Leaving America has me feeling like I've added years to my life.
@@shomariwilliams9502 I know the feeling. Congratulations bro
You're welcome. Tell your dad if he get out of America he'll add another 10 years on whatever life he got left.
Glad you enjoyed it and hope it wad helpful. And hopefully you and your husband are able to move here soon.
Facts, that why I try to tell people there is very little racism here. It's more classicism here.
Words of wisdom !! Respect wishing you the best still love your wing channel. Be free enjoy life !!
I appreciate that, homie. Thanks!
