- Jesus called 12 men to be His disciples. In this video, we look at a few facts about the men who were there for the Last Supper, as depicted in Leonardo da Vinci's painting, the Last Supper.
Jesus disciples included:
Simon (also known as Peter)
Andrew (Peter's brother)
James (son of Zebedee and John's brother)
John (son of Zebedee and James’ brother)
Philip
Bartholomew
Matthew (the publican, or Levi son of Alphaeus[6])
Thomas (also called "Didymus")
James (son of Alphaeus to distinguish him from James son of Zebedee)
Simon (the Canaanite)
Judas Iscariot (son of Simon Iscariot)
Jude (also Thaddaeus or Lebbaeus)

What I want to know is why Leonardo painted John either as a woman or the most effeminate man in the history of art? All of the other disciples were men and painted with masculine features. Leonardo was homosexual so he preferred painting men, yet John is a woman in the painting. Not commenting on the bible, just wondering about the painting.
Agreed, probably based off the fact that John was called the beloved.
