Teach your dog to walk at your side

  • This video shows you an effective technique to train your dog to walk at your side without pulling on leash.
This technique works by showing your dog that as long as they continue to walk at your side, they get to continue to move forward on their walk which is naturally reinforcing to dogs.
    Steps:
Position your dog at your side with a little slack in the leash.
Now begin moving forward. If your dog starts to forge ahead of you, you will move backwards one or two steps. If the dog stays, at your side, you continue to move forward. Use praise when your dog is in the correct position.
This technique works with almost every type of leash walking equipment including harnesses.

Honestly this is so good! I have adopted a shelter dog. It’s been 4 days now since he arrived. We had a lot of luck because he was immediately drawn to us. The walk on the leash wasn’t that easy tho and he was always running ahead and pulling on the leash. I tried this today for a whole hour and omg it worked!!!! Of course I have to repeat it over and over again but this was by far the best walk within the 4 days. I’m so glad I found this video. Haven’t had these issues with my first dog which I got when he was still a puppy. That’s why I think I will have to work even harder and have a lot of patience with this one. Thanks a lot ! You are great

I tried this today on my dog who is already a fairly good walker, but prefers to walk 2 steps ahead. Within about 200m of using this technique he was walking amazing! The best he’s ever walked! He suddenly knew to stay at my side in line with my hip and kept his focus on me. Gobsmacked. This technique really works!

I just have to add that this works just like everyone is saying. After about 10 minutes my dog got it and I just had to give her a few reminders during the rest of the walk. I'm sure that within a few days even my wife will be able to walk our 43 pound dog with ease.

Great video! So far, this technique has allowed me to able to teach my new dog to walk calmly up and down the road as long as there are no distractions. Next step is to proof the behavior and to teach him to not get distracted, but it'll be a lot easier now.

Finally! a video that gets right to it. I appreciate so much when I don't have to watch or find the spot forward in a video that is trying to sell something. Or life lessons for yourself when it's clearly titled How to walk your dog.
