    I did this with my two wiemaraners! So amazing when you teach them to walk backwards. Doing it without a wall is nearly impossible though. I used one of my hallways and it was perfect because either way the dog will always be on the wall. Don’t try without a wall haha.

    Brilliant video. I've started it with my 4 month old lab. Getting him to walk backwards is proving to be a bit tricky as he tends to sit as soon as I step back.

    • @GunghoDogTraining
      @GunghoDogTraining  Год назад +2

      yes that is one of the main challenges. stay consistent and don't reward if they sit

    hi, this was really useful since I am getting a puppy in January and have no enclosed space to play/walk. What do you do it the dog jumps up?!

    • @DadDare
      @DadDare 3 года назад +14

      When the dog is little you really want to make sure that you aren't rewarding any jumping up behavior. So if the dog has it's paws up on your leg do not pet the dog or pay any attention to it. I will also move my leg so they aren't able to do this. Pay attention to every little behavior your puppy is doing and if you don't want that behavior when they are an adult then make sure you aren't rewarding those behaviors at all. Remember that giving attention to a dog is also considered a reward.

      @@DadDare This is exactly right! I have one more tip that I saw in a video, you could put a leash (if you have, you mentioned you didn't have an enclosed space for walking and playing), but when you do you don't have to hold the leash and when they start jumping, step on the leash and do not give them attention. When the dog stops and looks at you or does not do anything, reward them because this is a behavior you want.

    Thx for video! So if you train them when they’re a puppy and you want to walk him without a leash on the street with distractions etc. does that work? I often see people walking their dogs without a leash with and no E collar and I’m wondering how they did it. So this is how they would do it? Is it reliable when you walk on the sidewalks? I’ve used E-collars before for heel without using a leash / but would love to be able to do that without e-collar especially with high drive dogs. Ty in advance!

    Hi. I have mixed feeling, I hope you can help me: I have a 4 or 5 yo rescued doberman. He is very sweet and mostly well behaved, however while walking he just love to sniff and keep walking infront. He walks a couple of feet and then waits for me and so on. I´d like to let him free and snif, but there are some times I´d like him to walk with me. Should I do the method of stoping? That would mean that the 30 or 40 min walk we would advance a few meters only. Thats the way? And should I do this most of the time? or a few minutes in each walk?

    About how long does it take the dog to go from not knowing anything to at least knowing where they should be positioned? Assuming I train my dog for 15mins twice a days (is that an adequate amount of time per session?). Great video!

    • @GunghoDogTraining
      @GunghoDogTraining  Год назад

      Great question, easiest way to start is to put it between your thumb and your palm. I have a little different technique but it's hard to explain via text. I'll try. Touch the two fingers on either side of your middle finger together to make a V shape. Place the food right in that V shape and then use your middle finger to push it out when you are ready. not sure if that makes sense but hope it helps.

      More training and slowly increasing distractions. Depending on your dog, some prong collar work in high distracting environments might be the answer.
