@@wendystewart5665 You can set up a loop of leash over one of their front legs right up near the top of their leg. Then when they pull, that leg lifts up and they are pulled off balance and immediately lose their pulling strength. It doesn't hurt them but being off balance is unpleasant so they stop doing it. I never did the treat thing but if you are and they ignore the treats, I'd let them get a bit hungrier before training (and no- not starving them- just make sure they are actually hungry so train them just before they were due to eat).

Love the videos! wondering if you teach your dogs non verbal commands such as hand gestures or facial expressions etc..? and if so, would you make a video on it if you haven't already?
My 7 month old lab/beagle puppy pulled me over on a walk 4 weeks ago and I have broken my shoulder. So wish I had seen these videos beforehand. We were doing some work to stop her pulling but it didn’t seem to be working brilliantly. I think she will respond really well to this when I can start walking her again. Had to get a dog walker in the meantime. Live and learn and still love my dog to to bits
Watching your video, I decided to go right this moment to buy such a leash and a prong collar because I have a year and a half female belgian malinoas that pulls a lot on walks. Ordinary collars and slip leashes have not worked so far, so I will try the dual stuff you did.
Every video I watch about this issue is filmed in a calm place, without many distractions to the dog... I live in the heart of the city, and none of these techniques has worked so far (I have been training for 3 weeks now). Do you have any tips on that? Kind regards to everyone!
It is sort of amazing to see Will spend five seconds with a dog he's never met before and it is completely transformed. As always this video is ridiculously short given how unruly the animal looked upon arrival.
I have a female Doberman and she is is 5 months and already 20kgs of muscle! She can loose lead walk and doesn’t really pull, but it’s not shaped into a nice heel yet as her pace is always adjusting. The annoying thing is when I praise her for being in a good heel position she then speeds up and gets about a foot or so in front. 😂 it’s still a loose lead but it now means she can cut in front of me if someone walks by etc. I think a lot of her problem is fear. I notice her hairs all stood up down her spine which makes her walk faster and start to pay less attention to basic commands she knows. I do walk confidently with her and don’t baby talk her when she is notably scared. I am scratching my head on the best approach to work through this behaviour as it can’t be fun for her if she is on high alert all the time 😢 Walks in the dark are the worst for this. Great vids. I have bought some of the Fenrir stuff too. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
love the training advice, and purchased a Fenrir slip lead.... but what if the pup gets to the point where they don't respond to treats anymore?? Our boy does ok, with the slip lead, but when he gets distracted (such as looking for his brother), he will not accept a treat and seems extremely anxious. Great videos.
What additional tips would you advise on dogs with super high prey drive like huskies? They can walk normal until they see a woodland creature and then forgets all training.
Dude thank you, I was able to do the same with a long leash I had around and my Border Collie seems to be getting a hang of it a lot better. He even goofed of and made me laugh then went back to doing the right thing lol.
Thank you for your videos! They have helped us start leash training our approx one-year-old whippet that we recently adopted. If you don't mind I have a question, what should we do if she is walking to heel well while training in our driveway but it doesn't translate into actually walking in the neighborhood? I have watched this video and the one with the Golden Retriever Sandy so far and am not sure that is the next step.
Advice please! 🥰 My pup is 4mths old now, and still working on leash training. I’d like to teach him to walk good on my left side, but for times he’s allowed to explore, (walking through the woods for example) to have freedom to smell around and do what dogs do. Will this confuse him? Or how to teach him the difference of what’s expected during certain situations, and more freedom during other situations?
Hey, I am in the same boat as you. There are plenty of videos out there about teaching your dog to “work” such as heel walking and then how to switch them off and be a dog for a bit using release commands like “freedom” or “break”. It’s important to give them a break during training it does help them stay focused.
We have been recommended to us. I have a strong, energetic adopted two-year-old puppy. We've had all sorts of trouble. He's calming down, but I'm not so wonderful at managing him.
Hi will love the videos, I recently had a 9mth old male mali and I couldn't get him to walk good which I've no idea how as I keep this breed but I honestly couldn't get him to do anything yet I can with my other 2 malis. Like you and your friend jason I love my dogs but this pup maybe had a bad up bringing yet I tried and tried with him but I still couldn't get him to be good but he loved everyone wasnt nasty for a mali he was harmless never aggressive to anyone.
Great vid, as usual! Say, can one teach a dog to always walk to the owners left side? Would be great if you could show us some hints how to achieve it.
Heel is pretty natural behavior, so dogs get it quickly. Their main survival adaptation in the wild is following a lead dog while moving around, which is the same thing. Control the side by always giving treats with the same hand. The dog will go where the treats are and usually quickly get used to it.
I seriously wish I could have you here training my big 8 month old 70 pound pit puppy, because yes, he has whipped me into face planting on my driveway 6:32
another great video Will. we have just rescued a 10 month old dobe, and while he isn't that bad with pulling I am looking for a prong collar to help with his training. Could you point me in the right direction to finding one please?
See my dog will do this while training but then on a walk he’s still all over the place and still doesn’t pay attention. He’s perfect without distractions in the home.
I heeded your advice and started training heel with a prong collar. Everything went exceptionally well. But now, if she does not have the prong collar on, she reverts back to pulling some. What should I do?
My 10 month old cane corso called Enzo, has been using a prong collar for months. It works great , but, last Friday evening I was just starting his walk he spotted a cat and pulled me up some stairs and across the path a bit. It all happened in a flash. He ran away ,but came back. He broke my ankle. I'm wearing a leg brace now and have crutches. So be careful out there X X X ♥️
I tried a prong on my120 lb female Rottie. Made NO difference AT ALL. She just took the pain. The only thing that ever worked for her was a Gentle Leader type collar. Everntually, I got her to be a great loose leash walker but prong was worse that worthless.
Thanks for the video. My dog pulls like that. I tried your technique from another video, but I think I may need to use the prong collar now. Basically, no matter how many times it seems I tell my dog "Keava turn" and then I turn, she won't look at me. She doesn't seem to care about being tugged as long as she can smell or see whatever she wants. But there have been only a handful of cases where she knew to turn, so perhaps it's just going to be a long road till she understands to look at me.
What about when other dogs in the neighborhood barks etc which in turn them makes the dog a bit anxious and then pulls and is on "high alert mode". My dog when on walks i put a harness on and the leash i use is one that retracts etc. Most walks are ok, she's mostly relaxed for half of it but still pulls some , but once dumb neighbor dogs bark it sets her off. Its kinda hard to avoid them.
Are these collars safe for puppies? My pup is 18 weeks old and I can’t get him to stop pulling no matter how much positive reinforcement I give for ‘checking in’.
The prong introduces the dog to what is desired behavior via redirection, it removes any reward they recieved previously ( its fun to jump and pull, even if being choked ), allowing the handler to wean the dog to something like a slip lead, then eventually to a regular harness leash if desired. Dogs I train are usually on the prong for about two weeks, the crazy idea for most people who are used to a crazy lunging dog, is that dog really wants to do good but just doesn't know what good is yet. So once introduced to it, will happily do so without the training gear. A good dog trainer or handler will use the prong exactly as what it was designed to be, a temporary training tool.
My gsd puppy doesn't hate the collar but he isn't excited when we get it our. But he walks so well with it, and then with a regular collar he's good for a bit until he realizes he has free reign with no reinforcement lol So am I really training him to walk well or walk well with this tool only?

Hey, I am in the same boat as you. There are plenty of videos out there about teaching your dog to “work” such as heel walking and then how to switch them off and be a dog for a bit using release commands like “freedom” or “break”. It’s important to give them a break during training it does help them stay focused.
I have a cairn terrier, pulling very hard. Would like to see training with smaller dogs.
Thanks Big Ibai
We have been recommended to us. I have a strong, energetic adopted two-year-old puppy. We've had all sorts of trouble. He's calming down, but I'm not so wonderful at managing him.
My only issue, how do you separate the focus heel to regular heel with lose lease.
Is it summer in England? Great work as always!
How many times a day should we be repeating this training?
I’ve got a challenge for you if you want to accept ! Rocco the boxer 11 months doesn’t like treats how do you reinforce good behaviour ? Help me
Great vid, as usual!
Brilliant - love the before vs after display, lol, poor victim being dragged behind before, and then, sheer leash-walking beauty after :-)
Great video, makes so much sense. My 5-year-old fox lab has become fearful of traffic, will a slip lead help?
another great video Will. we have just rescued a 10 month old dobe, and while he isn't that bad with pulling I am looking for a prong collar to help with his training. Could you point me in the right direction to finding one please?
Wow!! Hollleee cow!!
See my dog will do this while training but then on a walk he’s still all over the place and still doesn’t pay attention. He’s perfect without distractions in the home.
Is this tune up drill approriate for a dog that has just been rescued and possibly came from an abusive home?
I heeded your advice and started training heel with a prong collar. Everything went exceptionally well. But now, if she does not have the prong collar on, she reverts back to pulling some. What should I do?
I need his boots !!!
Your outfit is so good 👌
I tried a prong on my120 lb female Rottie.
You might try taking her out to an old mall parking lot so there is nothing to smell or see.
Hi Will. I have a 9 week old Staffordshire terrier. Is this too young to implement this training?
Do you have any suggestions for how to control a Wheaton greeting?
will she always need the prong on walks or will she learn and then the martin or no collar will be adequate?
Well...what do I do with a standard breed? I can't use this collar, right?
Love this - do you have a link for a reputable prong collar?
What about when other dogs in the neighborhood barks etc which in turn them makes the dog a bit anxious and then pulls and is on "high alert mode". My dog when on walks i put a harness on and the leash i use is one that retracts etc.
Most walks are ok, she's mostly relaxed for half of it but still pulls some , but once dumb neighbor dogs bark it sets her off. Its kinda hard to avoid them.
Are these collars safe for puppies? My pup is 18 weeks old and I can’t get him to stop pulling no matter how much positive reinforcement I give for ‘checking in’.
Thank you for this video. I just adopted a dog that does exactly what Freya does. I will go buy a prong collar as soon as the store opens!
Which prong collar should I be going for? Thanks.
OK but will she regress as soon as you use a regular collar? Or is she stuck with a prong for life?
Excellent 👍👍
My gsd puppy doesn't hate the collar but he isn't excited when we get it our. But he walks so well with it, and then with a regular collar he's good for a bit until he realizes he has free reign with no reinforcement lol So am I really training him to walk well or walk well with this tool only?
