@@Defia1 I've also been massively impressed by his attitude and actions towards dynamic pricing and his take downs of those artists that choose to exploit it. He very publicly says what so many of us are thinking.
@@Defia1 Did you read any of the other comments? Such as this one: "It’s so refreshing to listen to someone who is real and not fake like many artists of today. Robert Smith is truly a legend ❤" My thoughts exactly.
Summer of 1989 I left college heart broken by a girl, avoided my parents and went up to New Hampshire to work at a summer camp. I'll never forget the shimmering sun reflecting across the lake outside my cabin window when I first heard Plainsong. Thank you Robert and thanks to us all
I just love this man. Been his fan for over 40 years and counting. Robert Smith literally saved my life when I was young and depressed, and he's still the most wholesome person ever, so humble and real. Their new album is EPIC 🖤
Imagine 'Songs of a Lost World' being your first album you've heard from The Cure, falling in love, - and then the JOY in discovering there's another FOUR DECADES of their songs to binge listen to 😍😍😍😍😍
I'm loving seeing Robert so comfortable and seeming to enjoy recent interviews. He's turned into a great interviewee. Tim just sort of prods Rob on a topic and off he goes. It's great! I really hope Rick Beato somehow snags an interview at some point.
I love how Robert constantly self-reflects on what he's saying, but not in a "I'm managing my image/PR" kind of way, but because he expects that whoever's he's talking to will call him out for bullshitting! Very unusual for somebody who's spent decades in the limelight to be so grounded.
I can only name one other band from the ‘80s who are still going strong, with loyal fans and being able to enthusiasm the next generation. Also from Essex. (I wonder what was in the Essex water in the ‘60 and ‘70 when they were growing up there 😅). It’s D Mode.
Robert Smith has always been smart and articulate. However, he was usually a bit shy and, I think, hid behind humor and shorter answers. Great to see him elaborating on how he feels about his work and playing live.
I absolutely love the new album. ❤ I'm almost 50 years old now and I have been a fan of the band since my early teens, and it makes me so glad to see The Cure publishing a new album again, and still more to come. I love how the band has changed and grown as the members themselves change along the years (we all change, though in some way stay the same). The new songs are beautiful. They are full of depth, with the unavoidable issue of death (it comes to us all). I'm so sorry Robert lost his brother and parents. 😢 "I Can Never Say Goodbye" is so sad and beautiful. Wonderful album. Hopefully the band will come once again to Finland in the future.
No band has managed to release an album this good after 45 years. This is already my favorite The Cure album and I like them all. And the show at Troxy is one of the best shows I've ever seen. Thank you, The Cure.
tim’s lead into talking about “and nothing is forever” is amazingly spot on. it’s a beautiful track, amazing arrangement of how the ideas enter and build. gorgeous.
I love that a band as seasoned as the cure are still having funny issues like a guitar strap slipping which you’d think would happen to a band just starting out. They are so good live.love them.
I haven’t always been a fan of The Cure, but I’ve always been a fan of Robert Smith, and this interview reflects why….that being said, the new album is pretty great.
I recall while watching the 3 hour plus stream live that Robert had no teleprompter anywhere that I could see. Great to get confirmation of that at 11:25 point. My respect continues to grow for him. So appreciate how real he is and how invested he still is in his art. So many out there now are just phoning it in and have teleprompters all over and don't take the time to learn/remember their lyrics. It is a joke.
- " Alone. First track; the first one that everyone heard. Do you think it's catchy?" - "It'd be low down on the list of adjectives, if I was describing the song to someone." 😆😆😆😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Gen X and I have never listened to a full Cure record before. This record is a masterpiece. It made me a fan. It I personally feel it is heads above their other work. A real gem of a record.
As a fellow Gen X who was a bit too young to appreciate the Cure, I agree that this album is a masterpiece. They won me over to the point where I need to listen to their catalog with fresh ears.
Omg i am right now in a supermarket on the other side of the world, listening to this as I do shopping, and 'Cloae to Me' just started playing over the speakers 😅🥰🥰🥰.
Warsong is hands down my favorite on the album but this is why we love the cure Robert is a normal guy, like I'm a musician and we've had stuff go on where I'm like "what's going on" because I'm the lead vocals lead guitar these are things I have experience with.
8:38 the Endsong performance in the Troxy livestream was a masterpiece. Reeves Gabrels SHREDDED the guitar solo, idk how Jason Cooper stayed on the course for the whole 10 mins, and of course, Simon with the always awesome bassline
My favourite new song is 'Never be the Same Again' - he cried as he played it live in 2016, i thought the song was about his mother dying. Simon went up to him, patted him on the shoulder afterwards, as Robert wiped h8s tears away
Hey I would stick with Tim here : Drone/No Drone => Screw. Robert is incredibly structured. I love that new record, I love the way we discovered it, night after night, month after month. And it will become a part of me throurg Integration. Love to all of you.
Robert Smith is literally a musical “artist” - more in the vein of a painter than a typical musician or songwriter. He just happens to “paint” with music, but he thinks and creates exactly like a painter.
@30:46 - I can't help but think these same "anti-too-sad song album track advisors would have butchered Disintegration if they had Robert Smith's ears in those years, and what a tragedy that would have been...no "The Same Deep Water as you"...'cause "it's too much"; Please Robert, record your heart out, a spiritual successor to Disintegration would be AMAZING.
he's a good lad even after all these years... .rent-a-gob liam should watch this and take some lessons... Bob, ya up for some DnB , send a message ? dare ya
They are talking about the studio rooms at Rockfield recording studio, and Tim asks whether they booked the "Coach house" room, or the "Quadrangle". Smith then said "We booked it all" 😊 They are studios, but also accommodation.
I've often wondered why The Cure have never done a movie album, Tangerine Dream did it; even Prince did it - if the movie is good and the music fits it could add real atmosphere and elevate that movie. Or as ludicrous as it seems, The Cure could do video game music an entire concept album for a well established video game designer / creator such as say, Hideo Kojima.
It’s so refreshing to listen to someone who is real and not fake like many artists of today. Robert Smith is truly a legend ❤
Robert Smith has been such an enigma for so many years, it’s amazing to see in these recent interviews how normal and open he is.
Normal ?
@@Defia1 Yeah. I think so. He talks about his own limitations and self-doubts in a way that comes across as very humble and human.

Loved listening to this, could listen to robert smith talk all day long, such an interesting person
The Cure have been with the gen x from when we were teenager and still going. Not many 80s bands can claim that these days.
A 70s band!
There are about 5 still together and making excellent new music. We’ve been lucky.
I can only name one other band from the ‘80s who are still going strong, with loyal fans and being able to enthusiasm the next generation. Also from Essex. (I wonder what was in the Essex water in the ‘60 and ‘70 when they were growing up there 😅). It’s D Mode.

Best interview I’ve watched. Very personable and nice to hear his thoughts on his experiences. Thanks for hosting this.
Take the compliment. Head and shoulders better than to 80% of the music today. The album is wonderful, simple and powerful. Thx!
Great interview, Robert is so chilled 👍🏻
It's because people and the world needs to hear music like this. Comes at a time where humanity needs to check itself.

Love the new album, epic! Pure mastery, the Cure keep getting better and better ❤
Robert Smith and Tim Burgess absolutely brilliant 💯
Thanks! The voice sounded familiar but I couldn’t place who it was. Good to see Tim, he looks well, and surprisingly good as an interviewer.
Amazing! Thoughtful and insightful... so wonderful to hear Robert speak so freely, I could listen forever! 😊
Alone Shreds. Simon Is on fire throughout the whole album. Alone? Fantastic! The Cure is Robert and Simon.
I wish more artists cared as much about the crafting of a song as Robert does. This interview is thought provoking & insightful. Much appreciated.
Absolute fantastic! Thanks
i grew up with The Cure from 16 years old back in 1987 when i 1st heard just like heaven until today at 53 i have shared my journey with The Cure
Happy for this guy interviewing him. You can tell how stoked he is to be there

Great interview. Tim, absolutely splendid job!
That was a great listen - he’s fascinating and funny.
At least this guy unlike the BBC Duo let Robert actually speak and talk without interrupting him through the hole show... Bravo
Songs of a Lost World is the best album of 2024 imho.
I love both of these men. What an excellent conversation!

Great album - worth the wait
I can’t wait until they tour this album. It was great hearing some of the new songs on the last tour.
The album is incredible.
they toured this album in 2022/2023. it was literally called “shows of a lost world.”

Without Robert being 'the singer' it wouldn't have been The Cure. Unfathomable

I really enjoyed this interview. Drone:NoDrone reminds me of the Man Machine by Kraftwerk. I think because of the synth running through it
When Tim said he listened to it in Iceland, I thought he meant the Frozen Food Supermarket here in the UK. Brits will get the joke.
