Yeah, Robert is a case of a genuinely decent person with decent views. He had his low point circa Pornography, but he easily young, and he matured greatly.
My god, i love this man. His face, work, songs, voice, hair, lipstick 💄 He's a literal angel, and The Cure is the soundtrack of my life. I hope he enjoys retirement at 70 for a long time. 😊
Robert Smith might be the only person in the entire world that id immediately drop everything im doing to listen to the entirety of a nearly two hour interview in one go.
There is not enough words that could ever explain how much Robert Smith and the cure has given me through their music over the years. They have helped me through many dark and trying times. Robert always seems genuinely surprised that he's famous, while everyone else isn't surprised at all. What a genuine guy who's always struggling to be comfortable in his own skin! And he read War and Peace.
I love Robert, one of the only people standing up for fans as far as ticket and merch prices go. Some artists really should be ashamed of themselves. Thank you Robert.
This is a true reflection of how profound The Cure and their music are and how little power most artists have, or care. Once most artists become a “business” the creativity and DNA are NEVER the same and RARELY better.
I can hardly afford to go and watch any good bands, the prices are so ridiculously overpriced that I can't and won't pay it. The Cure try hard that their fans can afford to see them live. They let the fans watch their concert from home (for the ones who couldn't be there live) via live stream and I was so thankful for feeling I was celebrating with them yesterday evening ❤

1:11:57 This brought a tear 😪 I’m sure I’m not alone - but I wasn’t there when my mother passed away, it was COVID year and although she died of old-age at 97, we weren’t allowed to visit the care-home. She was suffering dementia and for 5 years she didn’t even know who we were (her children) but still, the promise we made her was broken. Saddest time of my life. At 71, I empathize with a lot that Robert says in this interview, as one gets older, we start to think about things, life, love and whatever in a different way, much of it to do with the inevitable “count-down” of our own existence, not in a sad way necessarily, it’s quite enlightening, to be honest. Love The Cure and this interview, hats off to Robert (and the interviewer) for braving almost 2 hours, for our enjoyment. Greetings and love from Romania ❤️🇷🇴
I can't believe just how wonderful a person he is - so witty, intelligent, knowledgeable, principled and honest while coming across vulnerable at the same time. First saw The Cure twice in '81 - They were such a big part of the soundtrack to my teenage years. Can't wait for the new album ❤❤❤
When I was 15 years old, my house caught fire, and started burning. I was trapped inside my bedroom, with my cat and I couldn’t leave. I thought I was in for certain death, when all of the sudden someone kicked down my door and I couldn’t believe it. It was Robert Smith. He just told me “let’s go mate”, and held me in his arms and jumped off the window with me and my cat. He had already saved my mom and dad and saved me, too. I wanted to say thanks but when I noticed he had left already. Truly a Robert Smith moment. Been a fan of the cure ever since.
OMG robert smith you are amazing, am 54 now and been listening to you since i was about 8, you are my hero and always will be, interview was great, i actually adore you, XOXO
The Kiss Me Kiss Me album still remains their masterpiece to me. Not only it being a double album but the diversity in music & lyrics were just amazing not to mention the best intro & exit I've EVER heard! I'm 52 now and it still remains my best album to listen to!!❤
I could listen to Robert's voice for hours, whether singing or talking. I absolutly love the new album and the concert yesterday every was one of the best I've watched for a long time. The sound was perfect and Robert's voice has got even better over the years ❤❤❤
It's a pretty magical thing when the person you musically idolized as a teen still makes you feel the same way in your early fifties. The new album is just phenomenal. The best fully-formed effort since Disintegration and as desolate as the it is, I still find it inspiring beyond all measure.
This interviewer did a good job letting the artist speak, and that is something too many interviewers fail to do. It's hard to not just adore Robert Smith & I've never been a goth, I just respected, valued, and appreciated his vulnerability and realness, and the band is an excellent ensemble of talent. It's so rare in the world to encounter an individual who is just a decent human being with a fairly well-calibrated moral compass, and most especially in the music industry. Ugh, the tediousness of having to put up with all the pathological narcissism, sociopathy, and the ruthlessly greed-driven psychopathy that is so common (to the point of being pedestrian) in the music business and the "entertainment" industry, in general. It's leave a decent person starving for someone...anyone...like Robert Smith who's just a decent human being AND also creative, talented, and still grateful for his good fortune in this lifetime. Bah, I'm waffling... Thank you for posting this interview! Should you ever decide to tour the US again, I know your American audience will be THRILLED! If not, I suppose I'll have to give up the good weather and sunshine of California, and drag myself back over to London to see the band perform live. Thank you all for so many years and decades of such wonderful music. It truly is the gift that keeps on giving~
RS 'I am sixty five ffs'. Know how you feel mate, great to have spent many, many hours of my 65 years listening to your songs again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and AGAIN !
Watched this interview the morning it came out. Now gonna watch it for the 3rd time. 😂 I could just listen to Robert talk about anything all day. Delightful soul. 😭🖤✨ We love you Robert and we love the new songs!! (I know he doesn’t see these obviously lol) I was telling everyone I knew this album was taking so long bc I knew it was personal. Add Roberts perfectionism and we’ve got a wait. 😂 But there just isn’t anyone in “the business” that’s more humble and down to Earth as Robert. God he’s such a delight. 🖤✨
We all know that Robert Smith is one of the great artists in pop music, but this interview also demonstrates that he is what I would call a beautiful soul.
When I was a kid he was in his twenties and he says when he is 30 he will be too old to perform and here we are, a self confident Robert Smith fully engaged, this interview is the triumph, and the music is even more awesome. Cheers.
One apsect I find really inspirational in Robert is how he continually assesses and re-assesses his life and his perceptions. Robert, while modest and shy, has a high-functioning self-awareness and superego (sense of self). His music is approached in exactly this way, it's a personal expression of the things or events or people that matter to him. Robert is in so many ways a really substantial artist. He connects with people through his work and his personality, and is one of the most inspirational people I can relate to. Great interview.
In 1982 I heard a song Strange Day and after listening I needed to hear more from this band we didn’t have internet I went to record stores buying singles & albums and ordering whatever our Peaches Records in Ft Lauderdale could find me I could never ever have enough of this amazing band The Cure cured me for life ❤❤❤❤ we share the same birth year 1959
once at a concert in holland robert walked by and stood still just enjoying the sight of me and my friend enjoying the pre show, i felt seen, appreciated, (and unashamed which is rare for me) and i write this to show my appreciation thank you.
This man has been the same in interviews since they started doing them. He does the exact same thing with his eyes and his giggles and when he wants to hide behind his hands. This tells me he's always been real and not putting on some show or act. It was a pleasure to listen to this interview, and I love this band and always will. They still give me the same feeling as the first time I heard the Kiss me kiss me kiss me album. I was 11, just a little girl. That's insane when i think about it. I'm now 48! Thank you for everything, Robert and the Cure ❤❤❤
Robert is such a talented and gentle soul and he has certainly made his mark on so many people’s lives, myself included, thank you Robert for being everything you are, X.
Robert's fav songs from all their albums 1. 3 Imaginary Boys - 3 Imaginary Boys 2. At Night - 17 Seconds 3. Faith - Faith 4. Cold - Pornography 5. Top - The Top 6. Sinking - Head On The Door 7. If Only Tonight We Could Sleep - Kiss Me, Kiss me, Kiss me 8. Untitled - Disintegration 9. Wish - To Wish Impossible Things 10. Treasure - Wild Mood Swings (Christina Rosetti poem) 11. Last Day Of Summer - Bloodflowers 12. Before 3 - Cure 13. Hungry Ghost - 4:13 Dream
Sinking is my favorite Cure song. ~ I am slowing down As the years go by ~ hits harder at 53 than when i first heard it at 14. I can't imagine my life without The Cure. Thank you, Robert.
I’ve listened to The Cure since their very first beginnings. They’re still a great band after all these years. The new album is very powerful. Robert is such an honest guy. No pretence, very modest, no greedy intentions or arrogance, just a humble, talented man who loves what he does while wearing his vulnerability on his sleeve, which makes him even more endearing. Thank you Robert.
I relate to Robert in that I was born in Dec. 1959 so lived through the same historical and musical touchpoints. Great interview. Saw the Cure in 2023 in Toronto. You could feel the love coming from the crowd and Robert seemed to really appreciate it, he seemed visably moved and as always quite humble.
Imagine if the earliest formative versions of The Cure had found a "good" lead singer. Robert would never have reluctantly taken on the role himself and we would never know his voice, music, words and soul. I have been listening to The Cure from the late 80's onwards and his voice is absolutely stunning, then and now. There has been no one like him before and no singer has come close since. There are other great singers, of course, but his voice resonates to the core of my heart and body. I am sure that scientific studies would prove this, but I don't need any proof. On my first listen of Alone his voice had me in tears immediately, the music perfectly guiding me to the point of emotional, cathartic release. Alone also seems to perfectly sum up the state of the world we live in at the moment. When Bowie died people said that they were glad to have been alive and accompanied by his songs. I am so grateful that the emotional soundtrack to my life was provided by Robert and The Cure.
Have loved this man since I was 16 and now I'm 55. I pray I'll meet him one day and pray even more that the old saying, 'never meet your heroes' doesn't apply to him, as I would be heartbroken if he was rude to me ❤️
He seems to have held it together as a level headed decent person. There was a time before and after the Phonography era that he might of not of been so pleasant to interact with and he says as much about that stage in his life. Look up the MTV interview with Nina Blackwood to see what I am referring to. I hope you get your chance someday to find out.
I am very late to the cure party. Stumbled on an interview on TikTok of all places. Only joined TikTok for the shop. Watched the reels occasionally. It’s actually Robert’s views and his moral compass that intrigued me to listen to his music. I’m only listening to the greatest hits at the moment and these I really like. He seems a really great guy
Mr. AllMusic published a very elaborate description and review! The Cure with this album demonstrate perfectlythe full extent of this high-quality opus. I fully agree with the review. This is one of The Cure's best albums with: 1. Pornography; 2. Disintegration; 3. Songs...; 4. The head...; 5. Kiss me... Several other reviews mention that this album is beautiful, but depressing. This album is more than that. The atmosphere, the sounds and the content form the expression of an inspired and skillfully presented work. That these critics consider the album depressing is an opinion, but the subjects treated and chosen go in the direction of a tragedy. When an artist chooses to talk about suicide, death, the end of things, it cannot be otherwise! Besides, if we focus on the titles alone, we find the essence of the subject: ... alone... nothing is forever... fragile... war... nodrone... never... end... There is nothing joyful there!!! Once the subject is understood, we enter the musical world and that is where EVERYTHING makes sense! The dissonant guitars, the repetitive and bewitching drums, the heavy bass, the atmospheric synths... everything conjures to transport us to the afterlife, if only we are sensitive to it. So I will dance on the Endsong as a man alone before the fate of the world with dark glasses that are worth as much as those of the pleasant but superficial ditties of the current songs and... so sad by their scope! The Cure deals with sad things, it is true, but my god it is joyful to get carried away and fly away with them!!! I will be at their next show in Quebec to celebrate their vision... and I will not be the only one... living from this collective divergence, shared with the joy in my heart of dancing on the sadness of this world!
I can listen to Robert Smith for hours on end and he makes me feel like I'm in a Lullaby State of mind The Greatest Band Ever to be on this planet Earth THE CURE !!

Truely Grateful to live in a world where Robbert and The Cure exist
robert from the cure, thank you for everything you do ❤
wow, Robert Smiith is truly just the kindest, sweetest man , not only in music, but competes with the rest of humanity.
what a beautiful man.
I will always love this man.
Robert Smith is an international treasure and must be protected at all cost.
(I know he doesn’t see these obviously lol)
I was telling everyone I knew this album was taking so long bc I knew it was personal.
Love their b side tracks as much as their album tracks.
Forever The Cure. Thank you Robert Smith and The Cure for this interview 🙏
One hour, forty minutes and it is still not enough .. humble, lovely person.
In 1982 I heard a song Strange Day and after listening I needed to hear more from this band we didn’t have internet I went to record stores buying singles & albums and ordering whatever our Peaches Records in Ft Lauderdale could find me
I could never ever have enough of this amazing band
The Cure cured me for life
❤❤❤❤ we share the same birth year 1959
Strange Day is the best song ever put on a slab of wax. That outro, fuck 😮
The greatest composer since Chopin, an absolute genius
Pathetic af 😂😂😂😂😂😂
What a legend ! How can you not love him and respect his music ❤️
once at a concert in holland robert walked by and stood still just enjoying the sight of me and my friend enjoying the pre show, i felt seen, appreciated, (and unashamed which is rare for me) and i write this to show my appreciation
thank you.
It's amazing how much he remembers about his songs and the things that inspired each one. I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday.
Robert Smith must be the interviewer's dream - his answers are always so full and conversational - and engaging🌻(I think he'd appreciate Ren)
I like Ren, he's class if a little cheesy at times but I sincerely doubt it would be Robert Smith's cup of tea
@@anonanon2414 I guess I was thinking more about being independent as an artist and he also talks about corporate greed
The cure is and will always be the best band ever ❤️ 💛 ✨️ 😊
Certainly one of them.
The Beatles, The Cure and Pavement, no other.
Robert is such a talented and gentle soul and he has certainly made his mark on so many people’s lives, myself included, thank you Robert for being everything you are, X.
Robert from The Cure, be still my heart 🖤

Sinking is my favorite Cure song. ~ I am slowing down As the years go by ~ hits harder at 53 than when i first heard it at 14. I can't imagine my life without The Cure. Thank you, Robert.
100yrs my fav❤
Sinking changed me when I was a teenager , Prayers for Rain was another one my god there’s so many!
I’ve never clicked on a video faster! Love The Cure and can’t wait for this album!
mee too 😂... I saw Roberts face on my RUclips home page and broke the sound barrier clicking on it.
I love this guy. I wish we heard him speak more often.
THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!!!! LOVE YOU ROBERT 🖤
The mutual respect between Robert Smith and his fans is wonderfully exemplified here. Such a pleasure to listen to... Thank you! 🙏
I could listen to Robert talk for hours. His brutal, humble honesty is very admiring.
We have always loved you Robert . Now the reasons are different
Love Robert we need to protect him ❤️
Have loved this man since I was 16 and now I'm 55.
Listen to “Join the dots” next. Good coverage of a large time period and lots of different styles
Mr. AllMusic published a very elaborate description and review! The Cure with this album demonstrate perfectlythe full extent of this high-quality opus. I fully agree with the review.
This is one of The Cure's best albums with:
1. Pornography;
2. Disintegration;
3. Songs...;
4. The head...;
The dissonant guitars,
the repetitive and bewitching drums,
the heavy bass,
the atmospheric synths...
everything conjures to transport us to the afterlife, if only we are sensitive to it.
I love this man since the 80s. He has never let his fame go to his head and still so down to earth.
I can listen to Robert Smith for hours on end and he makes me feel
like I'm in a Lullaby State of mind
The Greatest Band Ever to be on this planet Earth
THE CURE !!
Dear The Cure, thank you for the gift of your music. You have touched my life in a way I cannot even describe. (I’m getting emotional just thinking about it.) Much love and deepest appreciation from South Florida, USA. ❤️🧿❤️🧿
Gorgous...his voice is so calm n gentle....the Cure forever❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Can’t stop commenting hahaha, this was very generous of Robert, he’s not one for interviews and I’m so grateful that he gave us this. There were so many moments in this where I realized I’m not weird OR I am but at least I’m in good company. Thanks Robert ❤
