The guys from Iron Maiden are really the nicest, most humble dudes you could meet. I used to hang out with these guys back in the early 80s, late 70's. We all drank in the Ruskin Arms pub in East London and I must have seen them at least 30 times before they made the big time. They were really the most humble guy's back then. I met Bruce when he was the singer with Sansom and it was obvious he would join Iron Maiden. I even played football ⚽️ with Stevie Harris for a local amateur team (Melbourne FC) and believe me he was as good at that as he is on the bass!!!!. They have stayed true rockers and are STILL the most decent humble guys you could meet. Great, great band.....Great reaction. Up the Irons ⚒️ 🙌
I love this song! Adrian is a brilliant writer and this is his best! A brilliant song by the Iron's that you would love - which is an unrealized gem - is 'The Clairvoyant' from the Seventh Son Album. That song is a banger! Have a wonderful weekend guys -- Brilliant reaction as always 😀
ALL of 7th son is Underappreciated. For one of Maiden's shortest albums, it possesses the most coherent storytelling of all of their studio albums. Powerslave comes very, very close but 7th son is a masterpiece of the art of storytelling via music. Up the Irons forever, and if they (my family, not Maiden!!) don't play dance of death over my ashes, I'll be one of those spirits who ascended from hell!!
I absolutely adore you two! I'm 56, and I still go back and forth emotionally when I hear this song, and it's been like that since I first heard it in 86.
My number one from the Irons! That killer solo!! This song was my introduction to Metal music 33 years ago. It has been a life journey \m/ Up the Irons!
It's always a pleasure to hear your reactions especially to Iron Maiden and their music, this is one of those songs that will never be out of time, don't you think? long live To iron maiden!
When this song and album was released, some said this is not metal or iron maiden because it is too pop or too much synthesizer, but now I listen again, it is a very good Iron Maiden song. I love it.
I've always liked how Nicko switches to the ride cymbal for the 2nd chorus, and just kept it all the way till the end of the song...a very cool change of pattern
For more songs of Iron Maiden with meaning that I think you'd enjoy. Prodigal Son - (about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible) The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s) Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus) To Tame a Land - (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert) Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII) The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film) Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great) Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet) Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI) The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion)
Iron Maiden are fantastic.. especially in the 80's. Check out Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and The Evil That Men Do, in fact the whole album those two tracks are on is fantastic.
Adrian Smith recalled his reluctance to share this song with bassist and principal songwriter Steve Harris as he thought it was too commercial. "I was messing around with a little four-track and I'd just put that riff down for 'Wasted Years'," he said. "I was playing Steve some other stuff and I played it to him by accident and he said, 'What's that?' I said, 'You probably won't like this as it's so commercial,' but he really liked it and insisted we do it. So something you'd think he wouldn't want to do, he does."
Bruce wanted to try an acoustic album for this one. Gadly, Adrian step up for the first time and created the most melodical record, Somewhere in Time. Next time try to react to an live one, their amazing. Iron Maiden, my first love. Up the irons!!!
Look... I'm sure I've said this in a previous video you had from Somwhere in time (if you had one)... but Somewhere in Time is *THE BEST* Iron Maiden album. It is peak Maiden, lyrically, musically, emotionally, ... in every way. And although Seveth Son may have The Evil That Men Do (which is in my opinion the best single Iron Maiden song).... Somewhere in Time is... Unique
Alexander the great, infinite dreams, phantom of the opera from the live after death album. a must to react to :) the first 2 songs are played at 432hz
i like your reactions... so honest. this song is amazing, one of the songs that made me fan.. I would like to recommend a Chilean band from the 70's that mixes rock with Latin American folk music... I hope you can react and see how beautiful the music is in these parts of the world. the song is "Mira Niñita" by Los Jaivas.
Like I said on one of your Zeppelin reactions, the age of the super groups is gone. Bands were full of talent, with real musicians that were inspired by blue, jazz, classical, .... and they did not have all the BS today to make themselves sound good. If you wanted to sound good you had to know what you were doing. That era is sadly gone. Some bands remain, but like me they are getting gray. I am so glad I grew up in this era so I could see these guys, and Zeppelin, and Floyd live.
Take me back to the 80s with music. expression and fashion....and it was a much more simpler time and ironically it was in the conservative Reagan era...so much for the Democrat liberal ideal of oppression from back then...it was in reality the opposite...I know...I lived it
It is sad that some fans turned away from the band after this album. I guess they were expecting from them more of the 'Alexander the Great' vibe, which is a song that ends this record and sounds awesome. Give it a try, incredible music and lyrics.
Great song. All fans of this song should check out this cover here on youtube. IRON MAIDEN - Wasted Years (Acoustic Cover by MELANIE MAU & MARTIN SCHNELLA).
Not live ?...ok...but next time please, please not a fan made video with such bad quality ´240p´.....sorry, ´aaroyfan1´ but shame on you....that hurts. we are in 2023, he made the video just after the release in 1986, or what. and you both, MerchantOfAlba, thanks for bringing back Maiden. You better avoid this uploader. a low 240p quality video...thats below the level of your channel.....
If you want to listen to something more recent by Iron Maiden I suggest two songs taken from the last two albums: "Empire of the cloud" from the album "The book of souls", and "Hell on Earth" from the album "Senjutsu". I think they are something new and fresh for you. Then I don't know if you like it or not. You will decide. Greetings and hugs from Italy!!!!

amazing stories man
I bought this song's album during my high school in 1987. The album titled "Somewhere In Time" is phenomenal.❤

Love that one.

This band is my favorite Heavy Metal Band. I went to 3 concerts back in the day.
When this song and album was released, some said this is not metal or iron maiden because it is too pop or too much synthesizer, but now I listen again, it is a very good Iron Maiden song. I love it.

Iron Maiden is a dish best served Live!
So very true. Older songs told a story not like the modern crap.
You havent listened to Sabaton and read their lyrics? 🤔
There’s tons of good music which is lyrically superb as well as musically. You just need to expand your horizons and get away from chart shite.
Iron Mainden at their best epic song
Yep the drumming in this song is very good, thr guitar solo is awesome too

Heavy metal gods ❤️🤘🎸
Adrian Smith recalled his reluctance to share this song with bassist and principal songwriter Steve Harris as he thought it was too commercial. You have listen to this whole record. It's amazing.
Loneliness of the long distance runner or Deja vu have great lyrics and drum tracks. 👍🏽🤘🏽

Distinctly Adrian Smyth. Really talented guitarist and singer/songwriter.

Lovely reaction! I suggest you listen to Anneke van Giersbergen covering this song live, which she has done many times 🤘🏼
❤ From Croatia
Anneke van Giersbergen does an acoustic cover of this song. It is definitely worth checking out.
Wasted Time by the Eagles is another great song that speaks to the the subject of possible wasted time.
UP THE IRONS🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Love this try " the evil that men do " very similar
Literally my very first rif I learned when I was kid. Maiden, hmmmm.
It's not a song.
It is philosophy with music.

How many years did Iron Maiden wasted with your Wife exactly? 😁
Try the video version. Much better. Great reaction.
