I saw Maiden on this tour in Hawaii at the Blaisdell Arena in '86! The only time they ever played in the islands. I went with my uncle and a few of his metal friends. It's still my favorite concert I've ever been to. UP THE IRONS FOREVER!!!!!!!! 🤟🏼
Steve heard Adrian in the studio playing this and said I like that. Adrian thought it was too commercial but Steve said nah we will do that. The rest is history
You should do a followup reaction with one of their recent shows. They still play this song on occasion and they still got it! Recommend live at any show in South America. You would think they're an 80's band living in the past but they're bigger now than ever!
Mentioning Adrian's killer solo and the vocal harmonies at the chorus are common sense about Wasted Years, so I'll say my favorite thing about the song is the change from the hi-hat to the ride cymbal for the 2nd chorus (and finishing this way), always thought it was a very cool touch...years later they would reverse this move on Fear Of The Dark
Iron Maiden is Heavy Metal. This song is very nostalgic, not 'poppy', as you say. It's reflective of the bands life touring on the road, and the sacrifices they make; Wasted Years is one of Iron Maidens very best songs.
From the coast of gold, across the seven seas Travelin' on, far and wide But now it seems I'm just a stranger to myself And all the things I sometimes do, it isn't me but someone else
They released an album called "Senjitsu" about 2-3 years ago and it had a great song called "The Writing on the Wall." Not just an awesome tune, but an awesome video with kind of a "graphic novel" theme to it. If you haven't checked this one out, you really should!!!!!
They have a formula, good things we fans love it. Watched them open for Guns n Roses years back. Axl can't handle his choices so they no show. Maiden proceeds to put on an epic 2+ hour continuation of their opening set that was an at least an hour long. Fan for life.
Great song. I believe this was written by Adrian Smith who found all the touring Maiden did in the 80’s particularly gruelling. It must have been particularly tough back then with very little connection to home in the days before the internet.
Not even this lighter-side Maiden song got regular radio airplay. No Maiden song ever did, yet they've sold almost 100 million albums and still sell out any arena on the planet. Name another band in music history that can say the same.
Sep 6th 1986 to be precise, along with the single, three weeks prior to the album...the footage are mostly from their previous tour, also scenes from backstage and their previous music videos

I love how this video is kind of a retrospect of their career up till then .Probably my favorite Maiden song.
Iron Maiden are one of the hardest working bands in the world, they're still doing it today.
I just saw their October 26th show of 2024 in their mid-70s they still sounded good and put on one hell of a show

Always loved how it flows into the last chorus

I always thought this was a mistake or oversight by Nicko (which is entirely possible), but that they kept it because it was so good.

You can never go wrong with Iron Maiden, no matter which song you pick. Try Hallowed Be Thy Name from the live album Live After Death.
The guitar riff is one of the best it's just amazing
