Fun fact: Iron Maiden has not used tour buses in a long, long time. Bruce Dickinson, the singer, is a licensed pilot type rated on multiple airliner-sized jets and he flies the band and crew from place to place while touring. The had a Boeing 757 for years, but upgraded to a 747 a few years back. The jet is known as "Ed Force One"! So cool.
..FUN Fact: Bruce Dickinson ? The singer? Stopped a Song..mid song..to call out and yell at 'filthy potsmokers' and..'how dare they do such a thing..in smells distance of him(hahahahahahahah😂😂😂) f him! Their music? Sure. Was cool when i was 16. 😂
Not anymore he had his ticket pulled by the FAA and the British FAA which is about right as most of the major airlines force retirement at 60 and Bruce is now 65 yrs. That is what I heard not sure if it is true.
About Iron Maiden being dadrock: Bruce says their fanbase is like plywood. Every year a new layer forms and it all sticks together. That is true, they keep building layers of fans of all ages. My sons are 9 and 5 years old. They think Maiden is music for moms because I like them so much 😂 my 5 year old likes them too, so here's to another layer: up the irons 🤘
This is one of my favorite Maiden songs. Yes they are still performing, drummer Nico McBrian (the oldest) is 71 and singer Bruce Dickinson (the youngest) is 65. I’m going to see them again this October in Tacoma.
Hope you have a great time at the show bud - saw them last July and If i had the cash (and time) id be going overseas to watch them again (and again and again)
@@amyballard2495 When was your first concert? Mine was the Peice of Mind tour in 83' in Seattle which is about an hour from Tacoma where I live and I still remember the fun me and my 3 buddies had trying to get home from that concert (my buddies older brother ditched us) in the middle of the night that night. Let's just say a little mischief and a few cops were involved lol. But still the third best concert ever after Deep Purple Perfect Strangers tour and AC/DC's flick of the switch tour and that one only because someone shot off a flair gun and set the Tacoma Domes wooden roof on fire and while they were clearing people out AC/DC started playing This House is on Fire.
if memory serves me, the lead singer Bruce Dickinson is a Olympic grade fencer, airline pilot ( he pilots the band around the world (still?) and had throat cancer at one point. other more knowledgeable people will put this right if i missed anything. oh yeah Run to the hills is a great maiden track !
Hallowed Be Thy Name is the song/video you were trying to remember the name of. Fun trivia - Bruce Dickinson fences in his off time, and has competed in numerous international competitions.
Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills. It's about English settlers from England taking away land from Native Americans and the Native Americans fighting to keep their land. A British band writing a song about American history, imagine that?
They sing about United States Cavalry as they are doing their galloping on the Plains. They say white-man came across the sea, so they are talking about Europeans, not just the British/English/scottish/welsh/irish people.
Nailed it, BP! Adrian Smith wrote this song about being on the road, and missing home. My favorite IM song - came out in '86, I believe. Bruce Dickinson (lead singer) is an Olympic-level fencer, in addition to all the other things he excels at. I urge you yet again to watch the documentary "Flight 666" - not necessarily as a reaction, but to give yourself a broader understanding of the band and their fans.
Over 40 years strong! Still touring. Most members all in there 60's. Bruce is the best story teller & live singer/performer in the business. Live concerts are over the top. Check out Fear of the Dark live in Rio! The fencing was Bruce! He actually entered in competitions. Love them all! 🤘🤘💪
Up the Irons baby!! I love Maiden ❤️ one of my first introductions to Metal. Judas Priest, Sabbath, Scorpions (old stuff) and Iron Maiden were on my folders in 8th grade! 3 yrs after...Metallica was my favorite!! I'm almost 60..still love my Metal!!🤘
Dad rock is a relative term. This came out when I was 12 and am now pushing 50. My son loves Iron Maiden and I even took him to see them last year. I guess it depends on the age you are when you first hear them. I love all of their music from the different eras and it’s good to see them still toucans recording. Lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, is an author, public speaker, high level competitive fencer, cancer survivor, and airline pilot along with his work with Iron Maiden and a solo career. He actually pilots the band’s own plane while on tour.
These guys play pick up soccer in almost every town they can while touring. Bruce the lead singer competed at fencing on an international level and got his pilots licence a few decades ago. He flew for commercial airlines and he pilots the bands jet "Ed Force 1" when they tour.
First thing EDDIE LIVES!!!!! It's a blessing that you realise that you're living the best days of your life before the years go by. Then realise you wasted so much time
This from the Somewhere In Time [album] - had been released back in ‘86! Many would argue, ‘twas the last of the most critically acclaimed albums during this golden era (‘80-‘86) of the band.
@tristanrl1940 Powers lave is an awesome album... to me it's like MASTER OF PUPPETS AND RIDE THE LIGHTNING... they both are great in their own way... I just love that I have all these songs in my phone and jam whenever I want🤘🏽😎
Adrian - solo player on this track - was playing this in the studio when Steve - leader/base player - said I like it and Adrian said it is too commercial but Steve said we are having it. The rest is history. They played this as last track of latest tour
Iron Maiden is talent. Their music has stood the test of time. Their fan base is made of young and old, which speaks volumes. Not so much a Dad Rock band as some may think. As far as today's Heavy Metal-anyone can scream into a mic...
I'm 53... It's dad rock because this is what I was rocking out to in my teens and haven't heard anything really better since then so I still rock out to it.
What could have been a toss-off song from the biggest heavy metal band in the world has endured and really taken a place among their songs as one of the most profound, honest efforts of their career. A bit more listenable, still with the distinctive fire they always brought. Definitely holds up well nearly 40 years later. My daughter is 16, this is one of her favorite songs, I've taken her to see Maiden twice, when she was 9 and 13. They were my first concert at age 15 in 1984. Maiden is definitely a multi-generational band. Thanks for the reaction as always.
Firstly , Iron Maiden are not satanic, they have written on the subject, like many other good VS evil subjects, They are story tellers and even act some songs out in costumed theatrics. This song wasted years I would consider a power ballad. It's one of their more mellow songs, and the lyrics are pretty straight forward. I recommend you stay with the Maiden train...it puts a smile on your face! Try reacting also to Fear of The Dark / Run to the Hills / 2 Minutes 2 Midnight / Brave New World / Chains of Misery / Book of Souls
Thought I would give you another chance, but again, a great disappointment in your introduction/beginning. This is your 4th Iron Maiden song, not your 3rd…. Your last reaction was Number of the Beady where you were highly criticized for your ignorance. I really thought you would apologize & or would have said you read the lyrics or so… You claim to be a man of Faith, yet you lied, you didn’t bring-up, Number of the Beast. Am definitely not watching anymore or recommending… smh
You have to see this band LIVE to fully appreciate how great they really are! Amazing talent in this band at every single position. Loved the "Dad Rock" reference!
Dad rock? Iron Maiden were one of the best metal bands (still are) of the new wave of British heavy metal. Even though Wasted Years is one of their more mellow songs it's still metal. That kid don't know anything. :) There wouldn't be his favourite death and black metal bands if it wasn't for the Irons.
Wait one minute.. born and bred in Adelaide myself now in Perth, hadn't heard that they were coming back to OZ gonna have to look into that and clear a space in my roster if they come to Perth. Or maybe even a good reason to head back to my ole haunting grounds . Thanks for the heads up mate . 👍
"So understand Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years Face up, make your stand Realize you're living in the golden years" The chorus' lyrics to me aren't about "not wasing time", they're a life lesson about the fact that you should not keep sulking about the past feeling you've lost time, but you should live in the present, "Make your stand" and do what brings you happiness, because the present will always be your "golden years". What the fuck is “dad rock” lol!! Are you inventing new genres or subgenres out of nowhere!!?? Lol!! This is funny!! No, they are the superb, classy, real, dynamic, strongly diversely emotional, powerful, moderately heavy, very melodic, vigorous, unique, and dramatic metal/rock!!
You both are soooo crazy happy guys!!!!!!!!. Greatings from ibach-schwyz, switzerland, where the victorinox knives were manufactured. That's nice, you know nothing about iron maiden, the first album came out 1979, called off course iron maiden. I know that, because music is my totally passion since over 50 years. You should know, that i was music, film and gamesaler for over 30 years. I know Bands, for example Hölderlin and satin whale from germany. Check out this two bands. G For example try tool, a band from san Francisco. I like, that you enjoy rock, i guess your favourite music rap and hip hop. Bye from a nearly 63 old zürichman.
I don't consider Iron Maiden "dad rock". It's just a different genre of metal, NWOBHM. "The new wave of British heavy metal (commonly abbreviated as NWOBHM) was a nationwide musical movement that started in England in the mid-1970s and achieved international attention by the early 1980s." It heavily influenced many later bands like Metallica.
You really should check out "The Clairvoyant". It's an amazing song and one of my favorite Iron Maiden tunes. If Maiden is "Dad Rock", then today's Metal is "Punk-Ass, Wasted Talent" music.
I wouldn't call this "dad rock"... Iron Maiden did become unhip for a few years in the 90's, but they have actually drawn a young audience these last 2 decades all over the world... When they play South America, it's all younger fans who are coming to and selling out their massive concerts... Same w/ AC/DC, Motley Crue, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple... those fans who think that pop music today is trash usually love the music of the older generation because it has a quality and depth that is absent from today's music. Not everybody is into hip hop and country ... the fact that The Rolling Stones are the biggest live band today speaks to the quality of their music... Even Queen + Adam Lambert r playing bigger shows today than when Freddie Mercury was alive and touring w/ Queen cos their music has appealed to a much bigger crowd since then.
Life-long Iron Maiden fan, and this is one of my least favorite Maiden songs, but others love it. You should check out some of the live performances, like Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Flight 666), or Fear of the Dark (En Vivo). They are best live. The members in Maiden have kept it up for so long because the didn't fall into the typical rock star BS. Go Nuggets!
Type of people who listens to it? All kinds. Of all ages. Including lots of short haired people lol Just as an example, search for Paula Radcliff Iron Maiden video. A British famous long distance runner. An iron Maiden fan. On the BBC coverage of the Olympics, she basically quoted half the Iron Maiden song "the loneliness of the long distance runner" Or Rogério Ceni, Brazilian soccer coach who was a goalkeeper and had the world record of goals he scored. One of the best kicker taker ever. Or Lady Gaga.
Considering that this song came out in 1986, nearly three years before my oldest child was born, I suppose you could call it "dad rock"... hell, you might even call it "granddad rock." Personally, I call it music, as opposed to all of this crap they call "modern metal," which is a bunch of homogenized bovine feces.
I wouldn’t say Maiden is “dad rock” but they are amongst the peak of classic heavy metal bordering on power metal before sub genres were defined. With them you’ll find the pioneers of the genre in bands like Judas Priest or the god among men Ozzy/Sabbath. If you really want to see the roots definitely check out solo Ozzy Osbourne or Black Sabbath (their debut was 1970 so they predate all the metal you’ve listened to and laid the foundation for all of those bands)
No it's not dad rock that young fella was a tad ignorant on what is heavy metal , Iron Maiden is NOT dad rock tbh. I went to their last tour last year & there are thousands of teenagers & younger at their gigs Maiden have a huge spread of ages in their fan base nowhere near dad rock lads. Try "Paschendale" ,"The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" (13 + minutes)" Where Eagles Dare", "Phantom of the Opera", "Alexander the Great" there are loads & loads of story driven, historical, literary songs Maiden do.
They play football at every occasion (Steve Harris is a massive Aston Villa Fan) and they are still going strong. Maiden is a band who has a lot of support regardless their age. It's basiclay for all generations because most songs are timeless.
Yes, dad rock. That 80's / 90's power metal sound. It really is timeless . That's why I love Lovebites, they are keeping the sound alive, and some young metal heads who think they are this new Japanese metal sound is funny to me. Just a new vision of the best of the best.
He calls it dad rock because Gen -Z don't have real rock to listen to today so they have to knock it. The 1960's , 70's, 80's were the greatest, now music is chit.
Just imagine getting on a 747 Jumbo Jet to fly across the ocean....and the lead singer of Iron Maiden is the pilot. True....dude is also a pilot; and he flies jumbo jets.
IRON MAIDEN HAS THE BIGGEST FAN BASE THAN ANY OTHER BAND IN HISTORY !!!! NEVER PLAYED ON THE RADIO WAVES !!! JUST WATCH ONE OF THEIR LIVE CONCERTS AND SEE THE SOLD OUT ARENA EVERY FU@K!NG TIME !!! NO MATTER WHAT NICO LOOKS LIKE HE CAN FREAKING DRUM LIKE A BEAST...F YOUR CO HOST ITS ABOUT THE MUSCIANSHIP AND LYRICS BRO.. KEEP ROCKING BROTHER
Guys Iron Maiden started out in 1975 with few lineup changes. Iron Maiden is taking a break from touring. In the meantime, Bruce Dickinson is on his solo tour for his solo album.
Where I grew up, the only ONLY song of Iron Maiden’s that they would play on the radio was “Run to the Hills” probably because it was radio “friendly” as far as time.
Same! I didn’t know anyone who liked them when I was in high school and college. The metal that I knew was Dio and Judas Priest. Fast forward to 2000 when I met my husband who loves Maiden. Found an AMAZING catalog of material and will be seeing Maiden for the 7th time in Oct. Best group live! Up the Irons!
I will be seeing them again for the 6th time in the last 10yrs this November in Charlotte NC, last time was October 2022 in Greensboro NC. They will be coming back to the US starting this summer, if you want to see a great rock show I suggest you catch one in your area, and they are worth a trip to go see.
Same I saw Dio first and was able to get tickets to Maiden a few months later so glad those were my first concerts only band that compares to them that I've seen is Ramstein
This was my first concert in 1986, Somewhere in Time Tour. I was 10. A beautiful song & you’re spot on the message. Don’t get lost in the past. As for Dad Rock. Well, Im a dad & this totally rocks! So screw the haters.
My favorite Iron Maiden song. The lead singer, Bruce Dickinson has a son, Griffin, who was in a band called SHVPES. (No, not a typo). This band was considered rap metal, so maybe you might like the music. Unfortunately, the band broke up after 3 albums, but I would hope you check out the song “Undertones”, it is a banger.
Have tried their Trooper beers? BrewDogs here in Columbus Ohio are is the only Brewery in The USa if not North America that is authorized to Brew and distributebit. BrewDogsvis from Europe. Also their original location in Canal Winchester has a hotel called the Dog Pound.
Do yourselves a favor and check out the documentary IRON MAIDEN: FLIGHT 666. It is hugely entertaining and equally fascinating!!&! I dare you not to like it!!&! 🤘😎
Hey you forgot " 666 the numéros the Beast " that you react in Last 10 days and dont want to listen to lyrics because your Falls Fear !!! They never was in diabolic thinks !!! They utilised words to speak truth and sometime BAD WORD(666 The Number of The Beast) SPEAK MORE than words like (The Bad Man number) to sell !!!
(My son introduced me to rap) & I introduced him to METAL. A CACOPHONY OF SOUND, to say the least!! Music has been progressive. To stay in one genre is a travesty. stagnant. Rotten. May we truly progress in a universal sound. Not for white music, black music, again music or American Indian music; but for universal rock music:
Don Wana - Be? Great aka ..FUN Fact: Bruce Dickinson ? The singer? Stopped a Song..mid song..to call out and yell at 'filthy potsmokers' and..'how dare they do such a thing..in smells distance of him(hahahahahahahah😂😂😂) f him! Their music? Sure. Was cool when i was 16. 😂
Awesome video,.. Wasted years is a 1986 classic from the Somewhere In Time album,. Actually this was the last song they played on Future/Past tour.. 🤘🏻😎💯🙏🏻
Wasted years was released in 1986 on the album Somewhere in Time. I think the other song you are thinking about is Hallowed Be Thy Name which came out in the early 80s - 82 or 83.
“Wasted Years” was released in 1986.

Including lots of short haired people lol
Just as an example, search for Paula Radcliff Iron Maiden video.
A British famous long distance runner. An iron Maiden fan. On the BBC coverage of the Olympics, she basically quoted half the Iron Maiden song "the loneliness of the long distance runner"
Or Rogério Ceni, Brazilian soccer coach who was a goalkeeper and had the world record of goals he scored.
The boys are major soccer fans, Bruce, the lead singer was a world ranked fencer, among many other things.
Dead rock 😂😂😂😂 let him go to one Iron Maiden show 🤘🏽
He'd be scared...
I've seen Maiden at least once a decade since '82 and I still enjoy every show.
Pink floyd Comfortably numb!! Pulse koncert 1994. Best Guitar solo in History
Agree!
💯 🎸
Cmon with the Pink Floyd shit! Take that shit elsewhere...
Just imagine getting on a 747 Jumbo Jet to fly across the ocean....and the lead singer of Iron Maiden is the pilot.
True....dude is also a pilot; and he flies jumbo jets.
Bruce Dickinson, best rock singer, ever !!
IRON MAIDEN HAS THE BIGGEST FAN BASE THAN ANY OTHER BAND IN HISTORY !!!! NEVER PLAYED ON THE RADIO WAVES !!! JUST WATCH ONE OF THEIR LIVE CONCERTS AND SEE THE SOLD OUT ARENA EVERY FU@K!NG TIME !!! This "rock"is called NEW WAVE OF BRITISH HAVY METAL.
Dad rock used to be stuff like The Eagles, but yeah, dad rock is morphing into heavy metal
Iron maiden is NOT dad rock. Maybe grandpa metal, but NOT dad rock.
Look up heavy metal in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of Iron Maiden. Definitely not dad rock.
So... what´s the issue with the "Dad Rock"? When you listen at, you just note a lot of talent and technique, there.
Hallowed be thy name is the song he was talking about, wasted years came out in 1986
Guys
Iron Maiden started out in 1975 with few lineup changes. Iron Maiden is taking a break from touring. In the meantime, Bruce Dickinson is on his solo tour for his solo album.
Keep upping the Irons. 🎉🎉🎉
I am the dad who turns into air guitar hero when I hear this song! Which is usually in my truck!
Yes they are trying to say that they get depressed in the road at times when they look back they realized how much they have missed
Dad rock? It's actual rock because there is no rock anymore.
Call me wrong, but this is gonna send me back to the old days. This is a gem
The song you are talking about is hallowed be thy name and the second song is number of the beast 😂
you should check out Two minutes to midnight, and Aces high
i have seen these boys live 33 times so far here in the UK best metal band on the planet bar none. and yes i am bias
I will be seeing them again for the 6th time in the last 10yrs this November in Charlotte NC, last time was October 2022 in Greensboro NC. They will be coming back to the US starting this summer, if you want to see a great rock show I suggest you catch one in your area, and they are worth a trip to go see.
This song came out in 1986. I remember hearing it in 1987. It was my second concert.
Same I saw Dio first and was able to get tickets to Maiden a few months later so glad those were my first concerts only band that compares to them that I've seen is Ramstein
Fear of the dark.
One of my favorite ones! Classic Maiden sound.
The sign saying welcome to Poland is from there first trip to Poland as the first band to ever travel behind the iron curtain
There are many types of metal music but every one of them loves maiden!
Dam Right!!
Great song guys! I would suggest the song by Iron Maiden called The Prisoner, it's a banger too!
You did Hallowed Be Thy Name & The Number Of The Beast
Need to go see Maiden and see how Dad rock it is😂😂
Have tried their Trooper beers?
Rime of the ancient mariner or fear of the dark is the next maiden you should do
As long as they play the fear of the Dark on Rock in Rio
Wasted years was released in 1986 on the album Somewhere in Time. I think the other song you are thinking about is Hallowed Be Thy Name which came out in the early 80s - 82 or 83.
Youre..a touring musician? Like? The midwest? (😂😂) And.. 'wana -Be'? Shldnt poke any fun at anyones looks. 😂
If you like Iron Maiden style music
