the Beatles are actually underrated as a Rock and Roll band... because of how their music progressed, people forget they could Rock Out better than anybody

The Beatles on fire. I think, they did Little Richard proud with this performance.

Because Paul's got such a smooth, beautiful voice, people think he can't sing with grit. The big secret is that Paul could sing with every bit of the grit John could, and Paul literally learned this style DIRECTLY from Little Richard when they were both touring and in Hamburg. The Beatles and Little Richard met many times, and he felt a great deal of affection and closeness to Paul. "I love Paul McCartney" is a direct quote from Little Richard from a television interview in the early to mid '70's.

Paul was singing Little Richard songs since he was 14 years old. When he sang Lucille to his dad at 14, his dad was very impressed how good his son sounded. The Beatles loved Little Richard, as well as Chuck Berry and Carl Perkins. All the fathers of Rock-N-Roll.

Great reaction to a great video. Had not seen this one and it captures some of their most raw energy. Simply the best!

Wow! What a great show, performance, and program! High energy early Beatles playing a signature Little Richard song! So much power and energy in this performance!

Did you happen to notice, Philip, how Ringo was just going absolutely crazy on the drums smashing away (in perfect time, of course. Ringo has been nicknamed "the Human Metronome" for his abilities to keep time as a drummer) as hard as he could! Electrifying performance by the whole band with a master class by Paul McCartney on how to sing a Little Richard lead!!!

The Beatles were Little Richard's opening act in 1962. He coached Paul on his vocal style. They were a tight rocking group in 1963.

I've never seen a clip where the band _pushes_ so hard. It really sounds like they're desperate to make enough noise to cut through the screaming crowd. It's amazing they didn't lose their voices and break strings, etc.

The Beatles developed their craft in Hamburg, Germany from 1960 to 1962 as an unknown band playing clubs in the red light, sex district. It's estimated they played 1100 hours on four tours where they did two shows nightly, each show for 3 or 4 hours straight. They had to play loud and hard for the drunken patrons who didn't understand English. No other band of their period had this level of intense live playing as the Beatles. They became the Beatles during this period.

Excellent reaction.. I'mglad you mentioned the interaction amongst the band. Some great groups don't do that and often it's evocative of a performance akin to guys doing their job rather than living that moment.

Paul McCartney is UNQUESTIONABLY the greatest singer/songwriter of the 20th Century. NO ONE matches the flexibility of his vocal range from lovely ballads to barn-burning rock-n-roll. Paul McCartney LIVES....!!!!!

They always honored their musical heroes when covering them. The studio version of Long Tall Sally was recorded live in one take, with their producer George Martin showing his prowess as a Rock and Roll pianist joining in! Thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work my friend!👍👍

They met Billy Preston as a kid touring with Little Richard in '62, iirc. Richard later boasted of teaching them how to scream.

Got to hear from you on McCartney's vocal performance here-legendary! Not many vocalists who can have such a beautiful honey sweet voice like McCartney who can also belt out such powerful vocals and with every bit the grit of John. Paul is a massive musical talent, and this live performance shows off his incredible vocal abilities he does so routinely.

Not too shabby considering they couldn't even hear themselves lol. Their studio version of this was recorded on the first take.

And to your question, is this the classic Beatlemania? I would say yes, especially the early Little Richard covers like this song. The combination of the Beatles doing Little Richard was an explosive mixture with kids at the time.

With these Rock n Roll classics, the Beatles still had their time in Hamburg live. There they played these pieces for hours every day in the nightclubs on the Eortic Mile. More like an early punk band.

So much fun to be able to come back to classic early Beatles like this performance! They were a great, tight, polished band by the time of their first albums.

So, Philip, is Paul McCartney Little Richard here? Pretty good rendition of the almost impossible singing style of Little Richard, wouldn't you say?
