It must be kept in mind that their live performances, from very early days in Liverpool and Hamburg right through to 1966 when they stopped, were done without monitor speakers. In the screaming years they couldn't hear themeselves let alone one another, and they had to stay in harmony and in synchronization. They were an incredibly tight performing band.
the Beatles were just about the most fun thing that ever happened
I love seeing the beginning of greatness! I was so young, but i remember so well. My mom was like no way, being a Glenn Miller fan, hahaha!
For the entire song, after 60+ years, i have a smile on my face the entire time. Back when they were having fun, nobody beat them. It is intoxicating. I saw them live in 1966. It is the highlight of my youth.
My first rock band my friends and I formed back in high school used to play this song live all the time. It's a crowd pleaser.
This was the first 45 record I bought with my own money. I was 8.
Nice review dude
It's one thing to be able to appreciate the song, the playing, the energy etc. in the present time but I can't imagine how electrifying it must have been back then when rock 'n roll was very young and most of the songs we know today didn't exist.
It was magical
The actual recording of I Saw Her Standing There, has the greatest guitar bridge in the world, give it a listen, just to hear George on lead guitar lift the Beatles into everyone's heart!
Magnifique ❤
Great live video, pity George's guitar solo disappeared somewhere in the mix.
Nothing like a Beatles song to get the party started! And this one is a barnburner of a song! Paul McCartney at 81 years old STILL plays this song at his live concerts; always brings the house down!
Thank you to Philip for the reaction!
Nice comment but Paul turned 82 on June 18. Cheers!
@@briandonovan1584 thanks for that reminder!
I love this performance! They are having so much fun. It tops my favorites of their earlier songs. The sound on this is not the best but that is okay cause it is a great capture of the time.
I think this was recorded in Sweden. Great version
The record is so much better than live performance.
Another fantastic program and review, Philip! I loved it!
Even with the sound horribly out of balance and George's guitar solo completely 'disappeared', it was still a wonderfully dynamic performance. This audience was extremely subdued though, by normal Beatlemania standards - they weren't yet known in Sweden where this TV broadcast took place, so only a few there had any idea what to expect of them. If you watch the whole set, which I highly recommend, you can see that magical process as the four lads work their *sses off to win over the audience, earning an encore and culminating in Paul's high octane Little Richard cover. You can see other TV shows from this time where a Dutch audience are on their feet, dancing in the aisles... With the 60s just about to kick off in earnest, what a time it was to be alive!
The best "I saw her standing there-live performance" I know, is the one from Washington 1964. These TV-studio-sounds were sometimes terrible.
It does no justice watching lives from back in the day! The quality just isn't there! It's too bad, it's a fun song!
Harmonies? You didn't notice John's vocals were way too loud? You need to listen to the studio recording to hear how great this song is. It's one of the few early songs that holds its own with the Beatles' later songs. One of their great tracks!
Ya its not a great recording. You can't really hear Georges guitar work and John overwhelms a bit with the voice. It's kind of cool though
@@TheBobherriot Sure it's cool. It's the Beatles. My point is just that the recording should be heard first. You eventually should see/hear everything the Beatles did in their short time together. I'm partial to recommending the studio recordings first.
They borrowed Little Richard's "ooooooooooo."
George's guitar has no amplification.
George had no mic, couldn't hear the solo
The original album version is better.
I will check it out
