My top-5: 1. Pink Floyd - Echoes 2. The Amorphous Androgynous & Peter Hammill - We Persuade Ourselves We Are Immortal 3. Yes - Close To The Edge 4. Autumn Chorus - Rosa 5. King Crimson - Lizard
Passion Play is the black sheep of the Tull family. Thanks for ranking it so high. Focus: Eruption can also be on this list. Focus: Hamburger Concerto. Soft Machine: Hazard Profile 1-5. Jean-Luc Ponty: Enigmatic Ocean.
My top 10, not including prog metal stuff: Supper's Ready - Genesis The Cinema Show - Genesis Shine On n You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd Dogs - Pink Floyd Close to the Edge - Yes Ritual - Yes Nimrodel - Camel Karn Evil 9 - E,L & P Cygnus X-1 - Rush Duel with the Devil - Transatlantic Bonus: Ocean Cloud - Marillion
Oooo, A Passion Play is suddenly higher than Thick As A Brick. I really like this development. But sorry, no way Fountain of Lamneth is higher than In The Dead of Night. My top20 would be something like this: 1. Caravan - Nine Feet Underground (22:44) 2. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus (20:44) 3. Van der Graaf Generator - A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers (23:12) 4. Pink Floyd - Dogs (17:05) 5. Gazpacho - Tick Tock (22:25) 6. Jethro Tull - A Passion Play (45:06) 7. Camel - Lady Fantasy (12:43) 8. Peter Hammill - A Louse Is Not A Home (12:31) 9. Van der Graaf Generator - Meurglys III (20:52) 10. Magma - De Futura (17:40) 11. Camel - Nimrodel (9:16) 12. Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (25:53) 13. Yes - The Gates of Delirium (21:49) 14. Genesis - Supper's Ready (23:05) 15. Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick (43:50) 16. Kansas - Magnum Opus (8:25) 17. Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize (17:52) 18. Yes - The Revealing Science of God (Dance of the Dawn) (22:22) 19. U.K. - In The Dead of Night Suite (13:10) 20. Marillion - Gaza (17:30)
Great list! I'd add Moon In June and Cassandra Gemini. Really surprised to see Lamneth, has become one of my Rush absolute favourite songs! And yes, APP needs more recognition.
Alright but where is the turn of a friendly card suite and also fall of the house of usher suite. You could honestly even say that the whole of tales of mystery and imagination is a suite especially the 1987 version.
Here are some that maybe some haven't heard. "Mei" by Echolyn. "The Great Nothing" & "From the Darkness" by Spock's Beard. "Stranger In Your Soul" by Transatlantic. "The Ikon" by Utopia. "Anesthetize" by Porcupine Tree. "Raider II" by Steven Wilson. "Rogue" by Discipline. And why no "Dogs," "Pigs" or "Sheep?"
I like what you put together but honestly, I find Yes (who I saw 3 times in the 70s) to fail the test of longevity, unlike Genesis, ELP, King Crimson, Tull, Supertramp, Floyd and Moody Blues. Those 7 I still listen on a regular basis, but not Yes and recently listening to Close to the Edge I wondered what I really liked about that jumbled up lengthy song.
I mean, I like it but I get you. It’s my least favorite song on CTTE and I prefer other Yes epics like Starship Trooper, Heart of the Sunrise, Gates of Delirium, Awaken, Machine Messiah and Endless Dream
Suite isn’t the same thing as long song, and Echoes def doesn’t deserve to be first. Ik Pink Floyd is good, but there are a ton of other great Prog bands and songs
The only PF songs that qualify here are AHM (boring) and Shine On (one of the best songs of all time). Echoes isn’t divided in sections even tho it is a masterpiece. It’s more to reduce the list than cuz of indulgence.
Sorry but they are all amazing but you can never place Close to the Edge at 3, it is the with out a doubt the complete masterpiece that sets the bar for all to beat, it will never be bettered never!!!!
I will agree with Juleson in this instance. I consider Gentle Giant being my top3 band, but I can't point out a single song that would qualify in this top. Suites are multi-part songs and GG songs are not exactly that. Many GG songs have just one central motif, they're just developed in quite a complex fashion. A number of GG songs have two sections: softer and harder (Peel The Paint, I Lost My Head, Experience, Nothing At All come to my head as examples), but are these suites? I don't think so.
Right, they said they didn't like to be compared to other prog bands because they didn't do the long song format like Yes or Genesis. But their concept albums could be some sort of suite. And the way Mr Class and Quality segues into Three Friends kind of satisfies the criteria.

2- Close to The Edge
1- Echoes
Cool to see fountain of lanmeth, but i think cygnus x-1 suite is better
My thoughts exactly
Close to the edge is out of competition
Muy de acuerdo con la lista. en este y otro video te acuerdas de caress of steel reqlmente un buen disco don mqlq reputacion desconozco el motivo
Great list, Fool’s Overture or Brother Where You Bound from Supertramp could’ve made it also
Tarkus ❤
Great list! I'd add Moon In June and Cassandra Gemini. Really surprised to see Lamneth, has become one of my Rush absolute favourite songs! And yes, APP needs more recognition.
reconociendo a nimrodel👏👏👏
Even though Pink Floyd isn't prog, Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a great song
This channel just growing super fast i remember a few months before this the channel mostly post memes about king crimson 🗿🗿🗿🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🌞🌞🌞
Close to the edge is better than Tarkus and shine on easily bro
Nope. 🙂
I recently listened to Close , first time in decades and if I never hear it again that will be too soon. It just seems like a jumbled mess.
@@peteshallcross787 it’s the most unjumbled piece of music i’ve ever heard probably
Better than Tarkus? Maybe. But holy shit Shine On is so better
Procol Harum I Held Twas...

Echoes should be 1st
And Dogs by Pink Floyd should be in this list at least

As usual, the often forgotten "The Ikon" by Todd Rundgren's Utopia was left out
Atom heart mother is symphonic rock isnt prog rock
what is a "suite"?
A suite is a lineup of musical compositions playing in succession.
Sorry but they are all amazing but you can never place Close to the Edge at 3, it is the with out a doubt the complete masterpiece that sets the bar for all to beat, it will never be bettered never!!!!
I find it really odd how this guy hasn’t even ever acknowledged the existence of Gentle Giant in like, any of his videos lol what’s up with that 😂
Gentle Giant doesn't have a song that could compete in a top 20
However, Gentle Giant has been featured many times, it even has a video dedicated to them lol
@@Juleson well, imo, yes, they definitely could in a top 20

Meurglys III should've been cut in half, the second half is a worthless reggae jam that only wastes time.
