Another excellent topic !! This is a very intriguing list of albums, many of which I’m not familiar with. But it’s awesome you included “ Phaedra “ from TD. It’s a first of its kind type of album that takes ya on wild, mesmerizing ride like no other from that year. And of course you hit the nail on the head with both TR’s
“ Utopia “ and “ Hamburger Concerto “ by Focus. LOVE those two !! Relay and Crime of the Century should definitely be there and not many will argue that the “ The Lamb “ should be #1. I certainly won’t. Thanks for providing the inspiration for the 50th anniversary release of these numerous, great albums !

Nicely Done Scott! I'm so glad you included Strawbs! Such a great band - I saw them at a little club in London in 2010 when they did Hero & Heroine all the way through (there's a live album of that tour). Spoke to Dave Cousins and Dave Lambert after the show, just the nicest guys too! Cheers from Central California!

Did you ever get into the Welsh prog/psychedelic scene centered around the Man band? 1974 was the year they released 'Rhinos, Winos, and Lunatics', very well worth hearing; they put out a number of great albums through the 70's, mostly.

Hi Scot, one more great video!! I think you mentioned all the great prog albums of 1974!! Procol Harum's "Exotic Birds And Fruit" and Manfred Mann's Earth Band's "The Good Earth" are very good but I believe you don't consider them quite prog rock although "Grand Hotel" and "Nightingales & Bombers" surely are (IMHO). So glad you included "Everyone is Everybody Else from BJH, "Red Queen To Gryphon Three" from Gryphon, and "Hero and Heroine" from Strawbs. You mentioned all the great musicians in FZ's "Apostrophe" and omitted Jack Bruce, perhaps because is controversial if Bruce played in the title song??!! It's kind of weird, one of the strangest stories in rock music. My top 5 would be 1 King Crimson "Red" 2 Supertramp "Crime Of The Century" 3 Genesis "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" 4 Camel "Mirage" 5 Yes "Relayer". See you Scot keep up with your excellent taste, wisdom, and humor!!! Peace in The Middle East!!!

Genesis The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway gets my vote and nothing else comes close to it. A departure from the pastoral English folk sound. It's off the wall, brilliant, insane, genuis. I've never heard another album quite like it.
The songs are diverse while it goes well with the theme and story. The ending leaves you guessing and questioning everything you thought you already knew. Pure madness.
This album really hits creative, technical, and other highs for the band. It boggles my mind the band members don't see this album as a monumental achievement. I love the 3 previous albums from the classic lineup. They might even be more consistent and refined overall. But this album is the black sheep and it's not comparable to anything else.

Great video!!! 74' was a strange year for music . I bought GONG YOU at a Mom and Pop shop . It was the domestic copy which came with lyrics on the inner sleeve.
Ive noticed on Prog videos that several Prog fans dislike the album. Theyve made claims to not getting it.
To me it was a step up from Angel's Egg displaying more adventurous gymnastic type of playing with electronics.
I never realized the album was disliked. Of course music is subjective but to point out a lot of negatives about the composition seems to be more attributed to the overall sound of the album being a direct turn off to people.
Surprisingly during the YOU tour Daevid Allen had claimed that he left GONG because he couldn't get on the stage.
The band often began their shows by one of them entering the stage to play the "OM" riff and then each member entering the stage thereafter and joining in on the "OM" riff .
One night Daevid Allen was the last person to enter the stage. He said that when it came time for him to enter the stage that there was an invisible rubber curtain preventing him. Everyone else had already started playing but he just couldn't get through ...because there was a invisible force field preventing him. He said: "Thats actually how I left Gong because I couldn't get on to the stage ya see?" 😮

Wow, have most of that stuff, most bought in high school, Lamb, Red, Silent Corner...is how I'd start it...The Might Sphincter used to do a great cover of Red, the early Phx punk scene was all acid head progers, Meat Puppets were big Gentle Giant and Zappa fans. So funny to hear punks say Iggy started punk rock when most were progers...actually Rotten, the Germs, et al...all Hammill fans...Nadir's Big Chance was an early pointer to what was to come.

Yeah, 1972 and 3 probably get more props from prog fans but absolutely nothing wrong with 1974.
