I can now say without a shadow of a doubt that Halloween 2018 is the best of the trilogy. Kills was decent, but Michael Myers was the most terrifying in this one. Felt very reminiscent of 1978.
I can agree with you there. Just came back to watch this incredible scene after the disappointment that was Ends.
it was a glorious comeback, 1978 and 2018 are the Two Towers; not sure the rest matters
Kills had a lot of cool scenes and kills but the characters were just so dumb. Ends was just bad
I don't blame Kills, it was good. But Ends, I do blame because it should've went by the novel.

I always loved “Random people catching his attention” Michael. Why did he target Laurie originally? Because she walked up to his house and he stuck to her, why did he target these two random Women? Because he looked in their direction.
Exactly how Michael should be and remain. No purpose besides random kills and unpredictability
Agreed 💯
damn facts
Desagree
That's how some serial killers killed
I do like that idea too. And in the OG he stalked her also. She was essentially his first target after his sister. But in this film it kind of defys logic with the whole "random people catching his attention" because he specifically comes back for his first target, after 40 years, which is random and doesn't quite equate to a "random person caught his attention" killer. His escape was planned and meticulous to go back to the place his original murder spree happened (which makes sense) and find his first target (which I always thought was random logic, ESPECIALLY after 40 years) which bumped 2018 storyline a bit down for me if we being real..
But everything else about this Michael is Perfect.
Bruh the way he kills the lady at the end is so sad because it makes you realize how quick your life can be over. She didn't even get to see Michael, she just screamed and died brutally.

Its like he was signing a checklist in his head like

His killing in this film is much more random than the original where he seems to be obeying some sort of internal compass/urge to kill specific people. He's angrier here.
No he went to those houses specific
It is excellently done homage. A return to the Michael that makes him the most compelling villain in horror.
He has been denied his favorite activity for 40 years. He wants to do as much as possible now that he is free
This take on the character is more in line with how Carpenter originally wrote him as instead of how he was portrayed in the sequels. No explanation for why he is evil, he just is. He's definitely The Shape again here like in the original.

I feel like this was the ultimate Myers scene ever filmed. All one shot, iconic tune, classic vibes... It's so perfect lol. Everything we wanted.
Right? It's like the filmmakers knew how to do horror tension correctly, bringing the classic franchise to relevancy....
Dale Daywalt should been a little longer maybe another house and 2 more kills

Christopher Marlowe Idk any horrible parts in it except for the disappearance of a few characters, like the black kid and Allyson’s boyfriend, and adding scenes from the trailers that weren’t in the movie. It still gave us Laurie wanting to kill Michael 40 years later, and she did. Until the fire trucks put out all of that, and made him live.
Its like paying homage to the original. Like in the beginning of the film.

Most people don't understand how difficult it is to film a "one-shot" like this. The timing, cues, lighting, focus, and so many other things have to meld just right. I get so pumped seeing films that embrace this type of shot, just because it's so immersive.
That’s what im saying, i love one shot’s and they nailed this one shot, it’s shot so well and perfectly
Its technically not one shot, when Myers grabs the hammer and heads to the house, the camera changes. Its hard to notice because the scene is done so well.
This scene was my personal favorite cause it doesn’t stop rolling and it has the same vibe as the original movie
I also love the randomness of it all! He didn't choose his victims in the first film because they were connected to his sister like the later films implied because Laurie being his sister was something they came up with in the second film. He killed them because they were alone and easy targets.
Yes, exactly this. It was at this part of the movie I realized that these guys really understood what they were making. Really they were restoring Halloween back to it roots and not the garish generic franchise slasher villain they turned Michael into. His character was simple yet unique in that it does not require a motivation. There is a low-key macabre sense of playfulness in his killings as well. And in that sense the shape is more like a relentless force of evil. This blank pale emotionless face with the blackest eyes, the devil’s eyes.
I agree my friend

Michael is the most terrifying human ever created in cinema. He’s like a living tank that just walks around and kills whatever is on his way with no emotion at all.

He's always been human, but in one timeline he did gain supernatural powers because of the cult of thorn.

2:13 I didn’t realize they foreshadowed this couple’s appearance for Halloween Kills🤯
Notice how every time he turns to look at something, he instantly starts walking in that direction without any planning or forethought. It’s turn, then BAM, walk. This suggests he really is driven by a primal drive to kill and makes it all up as he goes along, yet he’s smart enough to outsmart his victims and predict their movements even during his impulsive actions.
You are right!!

Bradley Eversley Michael Myers is easily my favorite killer of all time, over Freddy and Jason.

This is a truly special scene. With this one scene, you know everything you need to know about Michael Myers. Notice how he doesn't really walk with a plan, he's almost robotic in the sense that he moves from target to target but he does walk with purpose even if it's mostly random killings. He doesn't react to anyone or anything, he just keeps moving, only stopping to temporarily reassess his surroundings.
He's also not really fancy in this scenario, looking for quick and efficient kills. Almost as if he's trying to kill as many people as possible, since there's so many folks walking around, so he doesn't concern himself with a specific way of doing things. In the original and later on in this film and Kills, he will take his time if there's only a handful of people and he's in a dark area which suggests he does enjoy toying around with his victims if he has the opportunity.
To me, he's without a doubt the most terrifying horror villain in film history due to his lack of sentience or nuanced backstory. He's just a machine and there's no real way to impede him or reason with him. The only thing that gives him pause is if you remove his mask, he seems to temporarily place priority on putting it back on over killing people. Earlier in the movie, the only thing that makes him react is when that idiot podcaster showed him his mask. I have no idea why that is and it just makes him even more mysterious. Perhaps it's because he considers it his true face.
It proably gives him more power
And is a part of him
It is incredible how you analyzed the scene in detail and let me tell you that I totally agree with you, it is simply like when he starts killing people he does it quickly while he immediately looks for another but when he is in a more remote place he likes to be harassing his dam

The creepiest thing about this sequence is how purposeful Michael's movements are. He's not just running through houses or killing indiscriminately on the street. He stops, looks, and keeps going. It doesn't feel like he has a plan necessarily, but he's also incredibly controlled. His only goal is to kill and on a whim he goes into each house that seems the most vulnerable.
It's horrifying how realistic this feels with how he's able to get away with it for a few moments.

Heard of it!
This is what has always made Michael scary, his targets are random. He doesn't choose out of any order, because this movie erases the notion of Jamie Lee Curtis being his sister makes it all the more. See the fact that they're not related means he just picked her just because and that's all, the only reason why he is truly after is cuz she escaped.
Even better in the movie, he isn't really after her at all. He just walks around killing random people until the therapist drives him near the house where he just continues his killing spree. Honestly, he might not even recognize her after all these years, even though she thinks he'll come back for her. That's what I love about Michael Myers, is that we don't know his motives at all because he never speaks, and either of us could be right, we'd never know.
@@Billonator117 that's what always made him more of a threat than all the other horror movie villains, to quote the The Dark Knight "Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn" and is it more poignant when Michael Myers is trapped in a basement that's burning all around him and still never makes it sound just stands there and watches.
@D. Robinson I guess you didn't read what the post was about all the horror movie villains you just name all have motives, but not Michael Myers that's why he was scarier cuz there's nothing he wants, most of the ones you named are driven by revenge. Didn't you not catch The Dark Knight reference I did
@D. Robinson okay Freddy Krueger he likes to kill because he likes molesting children and he's doing it out of revenge, the Jeepers creepers creatureit's doing it out of survival he has to replace multiple organs in his body to survive, Jason Voorhees he's doing it mainly because in his sick mind his mother is telling him to do, the candy man out of pure revenge, Chucky killing because he's a psycho and also he needs to find a perfect body for him to jump into, leatherface pretty much being told by his family to kill people, Michael Myers killed his big sister for no reason goes around town killing people for no reason after escaping
@D. Robinson If I might step in here to this back-and-forth... I can give a litany of reasons why Michael Myers is in many ways, objectively more terrifying as a slasher than the numerous slasher/horror movies that would follow in the original '78 Halloween's footsteps.
To address the subject of motive/desire/raison d'etre, which I do believe is an important aspect to establishing what makes a character "tick", and indeed what makes a horror icon or monster that much more horrifying, I'll say that in principle, what makes Michael Myers scarier in this regard than say Freddy Krueger is the matter of the Unknown.
To some extent, we not only know what Freddy Krueger wants to do, or accomplish, but we know how to "beat" him to the extent that the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies explain his origin and status as a "dream demon". Not only do we get a method by which he can be warded off or guarded from, but we know WHAT he is, and that in some ways, he is predictable and knowable to the degree that you might not know what situation he will put a character in, but that it will relate to their specific fears and doubts, and that there are ways to gain power over him by alleviating yourself of fear of HIM specifically.
Michael Myers on the other hand has a known origin as well, as simply a little boy of no more than six years old, who at some point was stricken with murderous intent and killed his sister in cold blood, and then following this, precisely 15 years later did the same to many others without remorse or even a semblance of understanding what he was doing, for what reason, and nary a desire to explain it to anybody. You cannot anticipate what he's going to do, to whom, and why, in any way, SHAPE, or form. As Kyle's mentions of the Dark Knight are apt, The Joker's "I just DO things" suffices to explain the machinations of Michael Myers: the only consistent behavior is that he kills, or at least tries to, and it doesn't seem to have any logic to it beyond the methods and the premeditation enough to do so without reckless abandon as though he were an animal with no intellect. And this aspect of his character, as written in the 1978 and 2018 films, which is his lack of conscience and therefore reason, at least certainly not one he possesses the ability to articulate, is what makes it terrifying. Unlike Krueger, Myers will never ACKNOWLEDGE you (as another human being normally would), he will never SPEAK to or with you, his acknowledgements appear to be minor hesitations granted by only a few things such as saying his name or causing him a nebulous amount of pain so that he becomes briefly distracted or even at best, incapacitated. It never lasts long however, and he will always resume brutally assaulting his victims, with no qualms about doing so in an extremely savage and painful way, occasionally exhibiting extraordinary feats of strength, pain tolerance, and patience. Unlike Jason, there isn't anything in particular that defines Michael's "reasons" for doing what he does, much less the presence of a personality, and again unlike Jason, he was never "wronged" in such a way that revenge or hatred might be a motivating factor. It can be implicated that many of his murders are selected by virtue of seeing promiscuous behavior, but later we realize that is completely irrelevant, as he targets the virginal, straight-laced Laurie Strode, at first as a stalker/voyeur, and then as a relentless predator who goes through several of her friends until horror cinema's first "last girl" just barely gets away thanks to the timely arrival of Dr. Loomis.
It isn't even really clear that Michael Myers "enjoys" what he is doing in the conventional sense, as his actions would definitely assume a certain degree of sadism and aggression, but when he is killing he barely so much as lets out a breath or a yell. The usual human behavior accompanying aggression and violence is to be quick, loud, and deliberate, but while Michael's stalking and killing lacks the deliberate precision of a predator in nature, it remains slow, controlled and above all, extremely effective.
The thought of Micheal just being a mindless ruthless pure embodiment of evil that picks victims at random is so much more intimidating and spine chilling than him being controlled by some druid curse that forces him to kill his family bullshit. This is the best adaptation of Micheal Myers, besides the original film. This scene right here just captured Micheal in his natural evil state perfectly, this is like watching raw footage of predators hunting and killing their prey and seeing them at work.
This is true perfection.
At least he spared the baby.
@@joshuaagee-bass4049 only because it wouldn't provide him any fun, the baby wouldn't fight back or try to resist and it isn't able to fear him so it would be just a waste of time for him, that's why Michael ignored the baby

All in one shot. Brilliant, great lighting too
Someone finally said "I'll be right back!" in a horror movie and didn't die!
...Yet.

I think the couple actually comes back in Halloween kills. If you look closely at the person getting off the car in the trailer, it looks like the nurse outfit the lady was wearing. I could be wrong though
1:38 Michael: "Hey, I'll break a little boy's neck, but a baby? I'm not that evil."
Technically by killing the one who took care of the Baby the poor thing will starve to death Michael killed a baby without touching it
@@fallouttales5915 What if someone comes across the house later that night? I mean, Haddonfield can't be that neglectful, can the- Hahaha! I'm sorry! I forgot what town this was!
@@fallouttales5915 i highly doubt the baby would starve to death. Maybe she was married and the husband was working on halloween night
Letting the baby live actually showed how evil Michael is on another level. Sparing the baby wasn't mercy, it was sadistic.
The boy just got in Michaels way, just right place wrong timing, all Michael wanted was the wheels lol, he could of just threw boy outta the car but this IS Michael Myers to kill or not to kill, if he chooses to.
I really like his movements in this scene. He doesn't turn his head and body at the same time. He turns his head, sees his target, turns his body and goes for his kill. I think James Jade Courtney did a fantastic job as Michael in this film and also in Kills.
2:09 Shout out to Vanessa and Marcus who eventually die in Halloween Kills...I remember the first time seeing this scene, I thought Michael might attempt to kill them here. In all honesty, it was the first time in this timeline we see Michael not try to kill adults near him. Michael eventually stabs Marcus in the face, and kicks a car door in such a manner that it hits Venessa's gun, resulting in her inadvertent death.
FUN FACT: Marcus forgets his stethoscope in the house here, and forgets his stethoscope in the bar in the sequel.
Didn't have to spoil their death and how they die but ok I guess.
Seriously? You had to spoil the fricken movie?

BEAHHAHAHAHA
I'm pretty sure the writers knew what they were doing when they decided to add the baby scene. I remember in the theater, Michael had already killed a kid so now the whole audience tensed up as he approached the crib. Fortunately he just kept walking. lol
TheOnePistol The writers should have left that scene open to the audience, like him stopping at the crib then a quick half cut to him leaving the house. Would have make the scene much more tense
Nah originally there was supposed to be the woman's husband sleeping on a couch, that michael was going to kill but on the day they shot the scene the actor didn't show up, so they built a crib, no need for a baby as the camera placement.
TheOnePistol Day what you want, if they would have left that scene open to the audience like it or not that would have made Michel much more sick and twisted. Look at it this way... would a insane serial killer leave a baby alone in real life in are world... I highly doubt it. People and movies are soft now. I thought it would be a great chance for the movie to separate its self from any other horror movie in this time
@@aaronsaladbar97 "People and movies are soft now." ....seriously? Movies are way more vulgar, violent, and graphic now a days then they ever were in the past. Not that I have a problem with that. Just saying, you don't know what you're talking about. It also sounds you really wanted that baby to get murdered and called us "soft" for not agreeing. That's not us being soft, that's you being sick.
TheOnePistol Yess for example the new ted bundy movie everyone on earth saw the trailer and say they are romanticizing ted when In fact that’s just his story. Directors can’t be directors without being scared of putting scenes in movies or saying things in public that will piss people off. The best movies are when a writer/ director has a passion and goes full on and don’t pull punches, that’s how you influence and change the industry
I think this scene is so insane when you think about how halloween kills takes place the exact same night.
in this scene everyone is walking by michael, getting a good look at him but not knowing who he is. and in HK, the whole town is aware of the murders and knows about him, and some of these people are realizing they just walked by him hours ago in this film.

I find it rather creepy that the baby actually seems to calm down a bit when Michael goes near it. You expect it to be the other way around because of his evil presence and that the baby's crying would worsen or get louder, and yet that doesn't happen at all.
Kinda freaky in a way.

@@intencacidstabs3798 but Michael does have an evil presence and babies feel stuff like that

After Halloween Ends, going back and watching Halloween 2018 just made me appreciate the film even more. I liked the continuity of the film piggybacking from the original 1978 film. This is a great Michael Myers film.
1978*
This scene is one of the highlights to me for showcasing just how much of a professional murderer Michael has become. Hiding himself in plain sight while not drawing attention to himself and striking his prey with swift and efficient brutality, no unnecessary overkill. It's as natural to him as breathing at this point
Michael Myers is such a chill guy. He bumps into children and let's them go without killing them and he doesn't kill the baby crying
michael is very psicopath forgot it? >:)
Trailer Mashup Production he doesn’t kill children
@@Mr.Buxaplenty i thought he choke a 12 year old
@JAY_ NBA oh make sense now
He didn’t kill the kids because he was in public. He may be a remorseless, cold-blooded killer, but he isn’t stupid. Michael knows that killing people on the street would draw attention. Why do you think he focuses on home invasions?
This scene comes closest to capturing that feeling of the original movie and I hope they double down on this kind of atmosphere and tension in the sequels. The long take, the lighting, the randomness, the music, the window reflection, seeing the shape move in the background while the camera is stationary. This whole scene just works and is the embodiment of Halloween.

@Flixz I think he/she is talking about this 1:50
It really, truly says something to the legendary status of slasher movie villains like Michael Myers.
Every moment Michael's on camera, doing his thing, it's hypnotizing. It's like seeing Darth Vader appear in modern Star Wars content, hearing James Earl Jones talk in that golden voice. A legend of horror cinema taking the stage again to do what he does best, knife in hand.
So perfectly executed as a one take… absolutely amazing and terrifying as heck!! LOVE THIS!
I think throwing in the baby crying was a genius move. Because one of man's primal fears is that the babies crying is going to attract a predator, and then the predator will eat the baby. This caused everyone to immediately have a sense of panic.
Huh, never thought of it that way. But it does make sense.
Damn that’s true
i don't understand, can u explain more please. I haven't watched the movie yet
@@ca.4066 We saw Michael killing people and doing what he does best.
But there's few things like the death of an infant, even implied, that can truly shock and horrify audiences. But the movie knows better than to simply take the shock route, and simply freaks out the audience into *thinking* Michael might very well kill that baby...and doesn't.
Great scene. The way it is done in one shot of him going through the homes killing people. The guy who played Michael was fantastic.

I never expected Michael to kill the baby. To put it out of it's misery would be good natured. But what would evil do? Leave it there crying and hungry.
I think the baby simply didn't draw his attention. Like a huge predator that wouldn't bother smashing an insect in its way, and would rather hunt something else instead.
Might be a combo of everything mentioned here lol
The fact that this scene was done in one shot with no break aways, makes this a masterpiece in the horror genre
2:10: that's the married couple dressed as a doctor and nurse that appear in Halloween Kills.
This whole sequence rules. But 1:48 - 2:10 captures so perfectly what made the 1978 original so great. Just a matter of seconds but no other sequel captured it this succinctly.
