The summer of 1970, the filming of TTWII, is my favorite Elvis. He was in the best shape of his life, he was still excited about performing live and of course the voice was superb. If I could only go back in time.
Yup 1970 Elvis I loved his voice n looks. Cant imagine few yrs later how he changed. Drug wore him out. Even 1973 Aloha, his eyes seems lost from drug overuse. After 1974 he got lost gradually esp 76 n 77.
@@OctPSfever yeah. He lost 25 lbs for Aloha and looked good and of course the voice was always there, but it was all down hill after that. 1970 and '77 Elvis seem like two totally different people. Sad.
@@goldenera4ever I bet he used diet pills to lose 25 pounds rather than work out physically. If you watch the footage in 73 Aloha he looked depressed or under influence during the press conference. Slurring or his eyes looked empty. 77 Elvis concert, it was a heartbreaking to see. I wonder how his band carried on the dreadful city tours after 74. You can only pretend if Norhing wrong with their boss.
@@OctPSfever I think the rehearsal done on the 12th was horrible. He was forgetting lyrics and his speech was very slurred. However, I felt he pulled it together on the 14th for the actual concert that was beamed across the world. He had cue cards to help him, but he was more coherent. But yeah, the last 4 years of his life was a downward spiral. I still enjoy his music from the 50's to '77. I mean, it's Elvis.🙂

The internet allows Elvis to have more and more fans. Elvis we have known for years has been Elvis from recorded albums.and in my country (Portugal) we didn't see Elvis on tv as much as in America. I fell in love with Elvis for the first time when I was 10 years old (I'm 40) for the beautiful man he was and for the best-known songs on the radio like Love me tender, Are you lonesome tonight .... I just had the opportunity to see Elvis "live" many years later via youtube. And then I realized that I had no idea who Elvis Presley really was. And what a stage animal !!!!... That's when my "fever" really started. Elvis Presley is much, much more than the 50's 60's ballads ... The Elvis of the early 70's is stunning, electric, overwhelming! It's my addiction these days

So sad the way he ended up and died so young. Wonder how Parker felt when Elvis died in his beloved Graceland Mansion he loved so much.

I saw the blue suit he wore at the Madison square press conference with the floral shirt also his very first Vegas Jumpsuit Right up to his 77 jumpsuits in London at his Elvis on tour exhibition, the guy had style and his very own cool look .. Elvis was just so special in so many ways but also very human and had weaknesses like everyone else , doesn’t matter how famous rich you are life can still be tough but Elvis lived just until 42 but did more in those years than most of us would do in 10 life times ... In 1000 years Elvis will still be viewed as the King !

He seemed to always find himself on that edge of the cliff and he had to make a choice that would either raise the bar to unbelievable heights or send his career to a spiraling crash and burn pit to end his career. God gave him the strength and courage to reach back and hit the ball out of the park in each of those at bats! Unsure, nervous, second guessing himself, and afraid of failing, this man pulled courage from within and delivered greater than even he knew he could. From his adlib jamming that produced "That's Alright", his first appearance on the Louisiana Hayride, the 68 Comeback Special, his opening in Vegas, to the Aloha from Hawaii satellite Special. He always came through! Elvis was a once in a lifetime gift to his generation and generations to follow. The great musicians, and music people he surrounded himself were the best and were so instrumental(no pun intended) in creating the sound Elvis was trying to find. They were good people, too. It was a small handful of other's who were not musicians, that drove the man to bad health, exhaustion, and a lack of being able to control his own life. When the book written by three disgruntled body guards that were let go for financial reasons, came out, they spitfully dragged Elvis through the mud. They said they were making his life public to help him but it was to get back at him and money. It was so ironic because if they were concerned for Elvis they should have stepped in and stopped the one's who were enabling him? Their jobs were to protect the man! Elvis, and all the great musicians that accompanied him, helped him, and made his music so great, will always be on a special platform for their greatness both individually and collectively. Strange that many of Elvis' backing band of the 70's state they were not fans until they heard and saw him live. I was a fan by just listening to the records alone and a fan of what most he achieved, wheather, it was songs, TV, films or concerts.
ROCKINGMAN I think it was the fact he made all those crap 60s movies and he kind of lost his credibility in the music world at that time but he blew them all away when he came back !

I think he just got caught up in that cycle of prescription medications like Linda Thompson said in an interview, he fooled himself into thinking it was ok because they were coming from dr's but the sad part is that the doctors should have known better even tho little was ever talked about this illness in the 70s. Even the ones who worked for Elvis said they took them. Maybe because Elvis was so shy he felt he needed them to preform. He did have a big payroll and alot on his plate reared by a manager that charged him fifty percent of Elvis's earings which was unheard of even to this day. It is just heartbreaking that we lost such a great entertainer and generous bright young star because the dr's gave him anything he wanted because he was Elvis Presley or because of the money, cars, jewelry and gifts he gave them all. ELVIS paid a big price for those prescription pills. He paid with his life and the world, and his fans lost the greatest, brightest, best entertainer of his time. R.i.p. Elvis. You will never be forgotten ! And there will never be another entertainer like you !

Such a pity such big things in Elvis career that happened that were never filmed like meeting Muhammed Ali. The Beatles. his wedding. He first Vegas show in nine years. The Pearl Harbor benefit show. He was never on a proper talkshow. No footage of behind the scenes of his movies. A lot of his 50s concerts film quality is very poor. And just a clip.

Elvis created his own image. Col Parker was smart enough to spot him first and see his potential with the young folks. He took advantage seeing the Presley's were dirt poor knowing they would be easy to rip off....and he did. I'm not saying he didn't do Elvis some good, but he took far more than his share. Manager's usually get 10-20% at most.

No, and most of people have not seen the contract....we go by what we read and are told by others. The Col was managing many stars before he started managing Elvis. He realized a good deal when he saw one. He saw the Presley's were poor and uneducated especially about show business matters. He quit managing the other stars because he knew he could manage just Elvis alone and make even more money. He knew the Presley's would be thrilled with 50% since they were so poor and uneducated. They would think they had won the lottery. And yes,..in a way they had,... even with just 50%. The Col helped Elvis in some ways yes, but also hurt Elvis. Elvis wanted to tour overseas. It never happened due to Col being an illegal immigrant. Elvis wanted to become a serious actor and was looking forward to doing A Star is Born with Barbara Streisand. Supposedly the Col shot that down. The Col had wanted the 68 Special to be a straight Christmas special with strictly Christmas music. Thankfully Elvis listened to the producers and went against the Col and it turned out to be a great success and lead Elvis back to doing live concerts. Again, I will say the Col did do Elvis some good. But I think you have it backwards. You said ..."there was plenty of money coming in Elvis was not starving. " I think it was just the opposite. There was plenty of money coming in and The Colonel was not starving." Let's face it. Both The Col and Elvis had addictions and blew a lot of money. The Colonel had a huge gambling addiction and lost tons of Elvis's money. Elvis had a drug problem as well as a reckless spending habits and also was not good handling money wisely. But at least Elvis gave much of his money away to charity, friends and even complete strangers. I'm not sure Col donated any money to charities. He may have...but I am not aware of it. Anyway, it's pointless to argue because it's over and done. But according to people close to him, Elvis was considering getting a new manager. I think Elvis would've have been just as successful and possibly even more so with a different manager. But then....we'll never know. It was what it was.

He took advantage seeing the Presley's were dirt poor knowing they would be easy to rip off....and he did. I'm not saying he didn't do Elvis some good, but he took far more than his share. Manager's usually get 10-20% at most.

No, and most of people have not seen the contract....we go by what we read and are told by others. The Col was managing many stars before he started managing Elvis. He realized a good deal when he saw one. He saw the Presley's were poor and uneducated especially about show business matters. He quit managing the other stars because he knew he could manage just Elvis alone and make even more money. He knew the Presley's would be thrilled with 50% since they were so poor and uneducated. They would think they had won the lottery. And yes,..in a way they had,... even with just 50%. The Col helped Elvis in some ways yes, but also hurt Elvis. Elvis wanted to tour overseas. It never happened due to Col being an illegal immigrant. Elvis wanted to become a serious actor and was looking forward to doing A Star is Born with Barbara Streisand. Supposedly the Col shot that down. The Col had wanted the 68 Special to be a straight Christmas special with strictly Christmas music. Thankfully Elvis listened to the producers and went against the Col and it turned out to be a great success and lead Elvis back to doing live concerts.
Again, I will say the Col did do Elvis some good. But I think you have it backwards. You said ..."there was plenty of money coming in Elvis was not starving. " I think it was just the opposite. There was plenty of money coming in and The Colonel was not starving." Let's face it. Both The Col and Elvis had addictions and blew a lot of money. The Colonel had a huge gambling addiction and lost tons of Elvis's money. Elvis had a drug problem as well as a reckless spending habits and also was not good handling money wisely. But at least Elvis gave much of his money away to charity, friends and even complete strangers. I'm not sure Col donated any money to charities. He may have...but I am not aware of it. Anyway, it's pointless to argue because it's over and done. But according to people close to him, Elvis was considering getting a new manager. I think Elvis would've have been just as successful and possibly even more so with a different manager. But then....we'll never know. It was what it was.

Elvis was very aware of his surroundings I think he knew the time of day and I think that perhaps the colonel wasn't getting paid that much money Elvis had a lot to show for his money what did the colonel have he didn't make any Investments it seems like Elvis really spent a lot of money and he lived his life to his fullest he enjoyed what he was doing and he enjoyed buying gifts none of us really know the technicalities and the behind the scenes Elvis had to pay a lot of people so I seriously doubt that the colonel got 50%
No, Elvis created his own image. But even Elvis said that "the image is one thing and the person is another. It's very hard to live up to an image." Elvis was just Elvis. The Col was a con artist

Jamie McCarter I don’t agree with her about what she called him and his mother, but Elvis did use women and toss them aside. Elvis the image was a narcissistic person who manipulated and used people and could be cruel, but I think there was a time when he was a good person. Just lost himself to fame, to much worship from the fans and his love of drugs.
