    This is awesome. I'm not saying that youtube videos are better than learning from your coach but I have definitely notice a difference in the dynamic ways of learning. You can rewind or forward whenever you want without making the coach constantly pause for your benefit haha

    I learned the triangle back in 97 at the Gracie Academy under a different instructor. I'm used to the rotation. Never occurred to me to scoot out the hips. I like how this new generation teaches. I'm thinking of seriously going back.

    thanks! I have been having trouble getting a full lock on my triangle chokes in judo and I had never thought to try this. I always tried to force them back and regrip, which usually resulted in them escaping the guard or standing back up, I will be sure to try this in my next randori.

    One of my favorite techniques! If you end up on your back in a street fight. Your attacker will most of the time, jump into your guard to punch you....then it's all over!..i can slap on this choke in a matter of seconds!

    I would probably have thought something along the same lines as you, too. When I met the Gracie family in real life, they seemed like very chill, humble people.
    Another time, when I didn't have a ride home from their studio, a few of the Gracie clan offered to drop me off at my house on their way to another place. Even then, they seemed like pretty down-to-earth people, although I could be wrong as they were speaking Portuguese the entire time =)

  • @mrmarcanthony1
    @mrmarcanthony1 14 лет назад +1

    @uohypnos
    Actually, its "Reylan". All first "R's" in Portuguese sound like "H's". Rener, Ryron, Ralek, Reylan, Horian, Royler, etc. The grandmaster "Helio" was spelled with an "H" though. Pick up the "Combative" dvds and it will be just like you're at the academy, pretty much! =)

    The walking with the shoulders looks like it might help if the opponent is trying to stack you. Thanks for sharing.

  • @Tezcax
    @Tezcax 14 лет назад

    Yes, standing up is a way to escape the triangle choke.But it's pretty hard to do in a full force sparring.When you are in the triangle, you can't see well, you will pass out in seconds, you're kind of balance because one of your arms are trapped.
    Many times when the guy tries to stand up, he ends up falling and getting finished at the mount.Kind of a mounted triangle, which is way worse them the guard one, all his weight over you.
    But a good fighter may be able to pull it out.

      If it's your opponents right arm in the mix, then it will be your right leg that goes behind his neck.
      He is choked between his own arm and your leg on the other side.

    So if I understand 4:40 correctly, the purpose of angling by pushing off with your leg on their hip is primarily for getting the leg horizontal? And just walking the shoulders and holding the person in place is easier sometimes?

  • @RomeoBarnes
    @RomeoBarnes 15 лет назад

    Do both shoulder walk AND angle. Shoulder walk= easy lockup, Angle= Easy finish.

    • @andrewnguyen4037

      Hook his leg or if it's too late to do that,
      If you are crunching your abs on the lock, extend your upper body fast and jerk it really hard back to pull the guy back down.
      It should feel similar to doing a backflip in terms of jerking your upper body backwards.

    whatever arm is inside the opposite leg goes on his neck. Remember good BJJ is always simple. Just remember you make a right triangle like geometry class and you want the right angle on his neck.

    @ryujj143 simply dont keep going for it if its being difficult to do, there are other things you could try, and instead of trying to "make" something happen, instead of doing "this this that this and then apply the choke" use whatever is there. Let the opponent place themselves into position for an easier triangle. if you cant get that leg over but have the arm between your legs, drop trying to do that and go for an armbar.

    If he's posturing up make sure you get head control. Once you get the leg behind the head he shouldn't be able to posture anymore.
    If he is STANDING then hook the leg with your arm. As he's falling back down you should be able to get an even deeper choke OR you may end up rolling to triangle mount.

    He said that defines BJJ.Look at Jiu-Jitsu fights and count how many triangle you will get and then got to BJJ. Your are right to say that he cannot claim to be the inventor. Martial Art is like natural language. English has a lot of French words but you don't say when it is French.

    My point is it's much different than holding your breath. Many people can dive underwater and hold their breath for 5+ minutes. You can't get choked for 5 minutes and live.

    @VitaNegern77 Carlos Gracie believed that the letters “R”, “K”, and “C” were “strong” letters, almost “magical.” Almost all of his 21 children (except for 3 daughters) names’ begin with those three letters. Many of his descendants continue the tradition.
    Helio continued the tradition naming all 9 of his children with “R“ as the first letter. In fact, all of his grandchildren’s names, except for one begin with either “R” or “K.” Only Rorion’s daughter Segina's name doesn't start with "R" or "K."

    Gracie Jiu Jitsu talks of the triangle choke as the technic that represents the "inovated" Japanese Jiu Jitsu,that was delivered to Brazil,From Mitsuyo Maeda,Its more mathmatical for a smaller guy to use the Triangle choke ,Triangles are the most powerful geometric shape,thats why they claim it to be the the technic that represents Gracie Jiu Jitsu,&you wont get a Blackbelt without that knowledge

    in jiu jitsu you shouldn't care of why your shirts stretch b/c its bound to happen. wearing rash gaurds or tight fitting shirts aren't really any good to you. reason is that with a looser fitting shirt it will make your parter hard to breathe while rolling because of the sweat combined with the shirt will stick and make it harder to get out of chokes or arm bars etc.
    but when you roll bare back or rash gaurd you partner can easily slip out of submissions b/c its more slick that a cotton shirt.
