    Reviewing this in 2020 and even though I've done this 100 times , listening to Rener go through the details reminds me of how much work I still need to do ! Thank you Gracie University !!! 🥋❤🥋

    Spoke too much? Renner you are one of the most clear and concise instructors I have ever seen. My instructors, thankfully, teach very much as you do. I am fortunate to train with them.

    I love how excited Rener is every time he makes a video. It seems like he's doing it for the very first time even though he's been doing this stuff over and over and over again. I suppose that's one reason why Rener is so good: Everything keeps its interest to him.

    I love these videos, its like a how to guide to being a black belt :D mind you it would take years to watchand learn them all to put it into practise - its really annoying that some instructors know how to do it but cant really explain it accurately but this dude is awesome in that respect

    great thing about the kimura from the guard: If it doesnt work you can still go for a omoplate, take the back, go for a gogoplata, triangle etc. the biggest problem (even if I love the Kimura extremly), you have to set it up perfectly, and your timing has to be laser sharp.

  • @ted495
    @ted495 9 лет назад +1

    A question: when you get to the stage 1 of the punch block series, when you wrap your foot around his back, could he attack you in the groin with his knee? If yes, how do you defend against that? I'm just thinking about the street application for this technique. Please don't think I have bad intentions for asking this, I'm asking this because I'm genuinely interested, as you can see from this very newbie-ish question.

    • @njdnjdfvsj
      @njdnjdfvsj 9 лет назад

      Deal with it, getting kneed in the nuts is way better than getting your face stomped out

    • @Ulalamulala
      @Ulalamulala 8 лет назад

      +njdnjdfvsj actually, you will recover quicker from a stomp to the face than a groin strike

    • @dpalmer4588
      @dpalmer4588 7 лет назад

      Deniz Aydin not if they break your jaw or crack your skull.. Yeah, a nut strike sucks, but stomp on the head can potentially be WAY WORSE..
      and to respond to the original question, hold your opponent tight. If he's focused on trying to hit you in the sack, I guarantee he's not trained in submission defense and will likely leave an opening for you. Someone who does something like that is desperate. Stay calm and keep training.

    Nice details... What is the guy in the guard moves his knee "North" to block the hips from moving out from under once the arm is trapped?

    • @35november
      @35november 9 лет назад

      I am curious about your question. You are asking if the guy (Brian in this situation) moves his left knee up towards Reners head to block the hips from scooting out?

    • @KrisSays
      @KrisSays 9 лет назад

      Number09 exactly...

    • @35november
      @35november 9 лет назад

      Questions like that are good, I have ideas but I don't have a answer for you. I am going to drill that very scenario, on both sides.

    • @KrisSays
      @KrisSays 9 лет назад +1

      Number09 No disrespect for not using their names!... But, the initial "scoot" with the opposite side of the Kimura would be the first "block" as I have always been taught to keep the knees as "North" as possible unless you are jamming it in their "bum" for an escape. The second and probably most critical, once he has the set up of the Kimura lock...is to advance the same side knee "North" as to keep Reners' hips from sliding through... Probably not the best description. Hope that helps... Wish you the best in your studies!

    What I don t understand is why you need to scoot out on the side to finish. In my gym they teach it without getting to the side. I might be missing some details, but I feel like the scooting out to the side moment might alow for the opponent to roll over. Perhaps one can get punched if you don t scoot away from the free hand?

    • @prodigalbrock
      @prodigalbrock 6 лет назад +1

      If you don't scoot out to the side your leverage is minimal. This creates maximum leverage and control.

    It would help to demonstrate technique if each person had more vibrant colors. Instead of wearing a white gi, try blue and red. It makes it so you can see the two people and limbs very easy. Try to wear something that makes your body look more unique from his. (I know you have a voice and face and this and that, but a little color coordination might do wonders.)

    This technique was practiced in Judo and Japanese Jujutsu. However, the specific minor details of this technique that are shown here are usually not shown in Japanese Judo or Jujutsu. I already had a feeling you were from Europe based on your post. Anyways, the problem is, when the BJJ craze started to take root, many BJJ black belts made claims that they created every technique, even-though we know that is not true.
