  • @RicoRico1982

    I like that these two are arguing about it. It makes more sense that situations are not always the same. Even if you lock that move on your head, there's always that one opponent that already figured out how to get away from that situation. Like how these two arguing about how to cancel the same move with one another. Pretty helpful, especially when you're watching them and thinking about another move to improve in a situation like this.

    You fight the person not their body, judge who they are as a fighter and take every advantage you can based off that. If they are not so quick then fly direct, if they are responsive and vigorous then take a more controlled route :)

    i love triangles from the mount and i love both of these setups and have hit them since way back in my white belt days. for me it's like the same triangle setup from guard with the overhook (which i also like) where you can push the arm out and pull the leg up and through or you can push the hand between your legs and swing your leg wide and clear the arm that way. the beauty of the 2 setups (either from guard or mount, same principle) is that you can go back and forth between threatening the 2 making the whole setup more effective.

Most street fight situations would be direct flight situations because they would want to keep the arm close to the chest and if the person was physically stronger it might be difficult to pin the arm down Chicago style. Great stuff.

    • @jazzy777
      @jazzy777 7 лет назад +1

      I agree. As soon as he pins the arm he sets his base off and the guy on bottom can easily lift left arm and escape or simply move the supporting arm and escape. Direct flight gets my vote.

    • @GalenSD
      @GalenSD 7 лет назад +2

      jazzy777 doesn't the pinned arm become part of the base? If you have pressure on that arm it isn't going to be easily lifted or moved around.

    • @jazzy777
      @jazzy777 7 лет назад

      GalenSD Valid point but if you check 5:24 until the supporting arm is in position the base is not set and therefore the trapped arm lifted with ease and because the top guys position is already set at an angle I believe it would be easy to roll into either top mount or side control from the bottom position. Those are my thoughts and observations anyway.

    • @GalenSD
      @GalenSD 7 лет назад +2

      jazzy777
      True, it's definitly a timing thing. If you're not on point you're going to get tipped if you don't switch the base simultaneously.
      Both methods are effective in their own situation.

    • @jazzy777
      @jazzy777 7 лет назад

      Fair point. I suppose I prefer the Rickson Gracie mindset of never leaving yourself exposed to reversal or loss of control, particularly during the stages of transition. this is without a doubt your best video, two different moves, arguing about it tells us the strengths and weaknesses of each, and its hilarious to watch two bros argue, nice stuff

    I'm no where close to as experienced as you two are, but what I've found works best around in my gym where I train is pinning down the arm, and going from there. But then again as you said, if they're not that experienced, I fly direct. haha thank you guys.

    This video is EPIC! two Jiu Jitsu Geniuses basically arguing displaying two amazing techniques which are both super effective, but this is the first i've seen on this channel of them trying to prove why one is better and why, and in doing so they showed so in depth all the flaws of eachothers technique.... amazing video

    I love that you're both very passionate about your views. Both are good, with what ever works in your situation. Both works, but just like any other techniques, variation may or may not work all the time, so you're both right, practice both. Thanks for sharing.

    Straight flight on the way to the destination, Long trip with a pitstop to Chicago on my way back home. Solid insight from the Gracie family, best in the business.

    I like how they're working out new submissions and arguing while they're teaching
    It goes to show that BJJ is not set in stone, and that a smart practitioner is a creative one.
    Thats why BJJ is gonna continue to grow and adapt and evolve in the changing landscape of streetfighting and mma

    Love the brotherly, playful arguing. I have to agree, go direct! When you take too many steps you're more likely to make a mistake, or you give your opponent more chances to counter or escape! Either way, great video. The way I used the video was to practice the non direct root to then upgrade to the direct root with ease.

    30plus years of judo,,fly direct definitely but always having an alternate route is beneficial. Wish I had a brother as you two, Koga and Inoue. Great to see brothers work together keeping the families honor and dream.

    Ryrons version works very well for me. I like to utilize the arm isolation during roll sessions, it catches the opponent by surprise often times and gives you the upper hand if you know how to control from this point.

    "not as strong as you"
    "well theyre not as fast as you"
    it's impressive how each one builds on their style correlating to their physical capabilities

    Its great how the two brothers show 2 variations. I personally prefer the direct flight for everything, but its good to know other variations with this technique

    They make great videos. Informative, entertaining, and these two are funny together.
    Now I wish I had someone to roll with. We need more practitioners in the world, there's not enough.

    5:38 when he's all like, "Oh, my." Awesome. These two are pretty cool. I'll definitely try out both variations.

    I'm a huge fan of the mounted triangle, however I always did it with the wrist pin, then stepping all the way over that arm and diving the foot under the neck. It seems to get the best of both worlds of the moves you showed.
