Great tips, and what a beautiful piece! This probably wasn't an option at the time this video was made, but now zazzle will print any image of your choosing onto tissue paper, napkins, etc, and the tissue paper comes in 4 sizes between 10×15 to 20×30..so you scan or take a picture of whatever you want put on the tissue and upload it to a template. It's been really helpful to me, but I wouldn't have known this if a friend didn't tell me about it, so thought I should pass it on! ❤
Hi, I love your channel, it's great. I used to do decoupage with wet glue, but now I always use the iron - on method. It's soooo superior to the wet glue. In the project I'm doing now I used Mod Podge because I've got a big bottle of it, but, as you no doubt know already, Mod Podge doesn't give the best results!! I've been upcycling an old wooden tray: I stripped the old paint off, repainted it in a few coats of a light sage green chalk paint, followed by 3 coats of warm white chalk paint (both by Dixie Belle) Then I sanded back some of the white paint so you can see bits of the sage green underneath. Then I painted 3 layers of Mod Podge on the inside base of the tray and let it dry, before ironing on my decoupage paper. That seemed to work really well so I decided to seal the project with more Mod Podge, but that made the paper bubble up.I left it to dry, which is what another crafter told me to do, and then ironed it again, which made the paper smooth again (yay 😀!) but I still need to seal it properly and I really don't want to use Mod Podge again. Should I try spraying the decoupaged area with Krylon Varnish - which I have in my craft stock - or can you recommend something else to seal the tray? Oh, and and the other thing I was thinking of using was Epoxy Resin. Anyway, I would love to hear your thoughts on this problem. Thanks for your help. Love from Amanda Jones in Melbourne, Australia
Such a good idea as a surprise! To open drawers to find
I'm going to use vintage sewing patterns to line my granddaughter's dresser!! Same add tissue, right?
so do u have to mirror the paper to? and if I have a laser printer can I print what I want mirror it and irion it on still ? will that work with heat?
I’ve never done it with printer paper… you might need a heavier medium but it should work 💕
Can the top coat be just polycryillic?
New here dying to see this
New subscriber. I’ve never seen this done. That’s amazing. I got some dollar tree gift bags. Would this method work to do it on a canvas
Janet Moore thank you! it will work as long as the paper is not too thick!
Beautiful work! But aren't the hummingbirds upside down when you open the drawer? At least it looks that way in the video. BTW, I love hummingbirds too!
goldleaf3333 haha! No they were right side up😂💕
@@Balancedlivingwithcara :) Must've been my eyes, lol! Hugs and thanks!
can i use mod podge instead of patina dont have that or varnish:)
thanks
G Mc yes you can! Just water it down a bit for a smooth coat - 2 coats
@@Balancedlivingwithcara thanks so very much indeed:)
tried to check out your paints, but I couldn't see a description of them - is this chalk paint? mineral paints? acrylic ? sorry, let me know please - love the colors :) I moved from Frisco to the Ozarks, saying "mckinney" makes me miss home LOL
Cara, Did you do a Decoupage Application with the Iwo Jima Dresser you did?
Phyllis Moynihan yes i did! I used the iron method as well but had to reinforce with a little wet medium as the poster was very thick!
What temperature do you set your iron on? Thanks
Hi Tammie! I set it on high and the. Am careful not to let it sit still on the paper
Cara's Color Me Vintage thanks so much!
This is a fantastic idea. I was wondering because the tissue paper is so delicate how is the surface after you iron it on? Do you have to put a clear coat of some kind over it? I was just going to use Matte Mod podge will that work? Plus I just bought some scrapbook paper it's one of thoughs books and the paper is a bit thick can I use this to decopouge? Id love some of the humming bird tissie if you still have it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Mary Kennedy hi! Yes you out a top coat over it. It will wrinkle up when the top coat is wet but it smooths out when it dries! 💕
@@Balancedlivingwithcara Thank you
So I did this method with Mod Podge and a napkin. I watered down the mod podge just a bit I've heard it helps because it can be too thick, put two coats let dry put napkin on and iron on method worked beautiful no wrinkles perfect and silky smooth. Then I put a coat of mod podge for top coat and of course it wrinkled like you said it would. After it dried it it bubbled a bit and still had wrinkles. I ironed again to get wrinkles out and it bubbled and actually got crystal like. It was a hot mess is my point and it was so perfect after the first iron part. Where did I go wrong? You said don't worry it will wrinkle after top coat but it will smooth out with iron. Was it the Mod podge or was my iron too hot I had it on cotton? Could I use Rustoleum matte top coat for chalk paint I have? I also have some Gator Hide from Dixie bell. Would those maybe work better they are both a top coat? I watched your other video of the french lettering you decopouged over before I tried this too. I'm going to antique up the plaque and really rough it up so I can fix the hot mess but I bought some exspensive tissue paper and wrapping paper from Zazzle.com and dont want to make the same mistake. Help😞
@@marykennedy3351 It sounds to me that the second ironing is where you went wrong. I interpreted, "it smooths out when it's dry", to mean that the wrinkles will smooth out as it AIR DRIES. Just my guess.
@@mrsfid1 Yes indeed thank you I figured that out. It just reactivated but it still looks fine. Good learning exspirance for when I try my 18lb tissue paper I got. Wont be using modge poge either will just use the varnish. I've tried it and works great. No need to iron really anyway if you get it right the first time. Plus I dont mind a few wrinkles bc it makes it look more aged.😊
I wish you could do some videos specifically for your RUclips audience instead of copied from a Facebook live.
Thank you for your feedback - I have several specifically for RUclips
Can you get to the point of decoupaging instead of all the small talk?
