As I watched this, I looked at this old plaid shirt that I'm wearing that belonged to our much beloved father. I know what I will give my sweet sisters for Mothers Day.
Mrs. Patti, tyfs! I'm new to your channel. I just started the video. I wanted to go ahead and leave my comment. The plates are beautiful. I love love love Shabby Chic. French Cottage Chic, Cottage chic, of course farmhouse style. I can't sew like a professional. I can sew a little with a needle but not the way it is properly done. I love to watch you ladies with the wisdom show off your talent. I don't know how old this video is but I love you and your channel so far. God bless. Sending lots of love your way.
I am so excited to try this myself. I love the way you explained everything step by step. It’s very easy to follow!!! Thank you very much sharing. Diane
Good to see you again! I love to decoupage on glass plates, had done them before, but didn't know they had dishwasher proof mod podge. I remember painting the back with acrylic white paint.
I'm so sorry Miss Patti. Just returned from a trip to San Diego (my husband fulfilling an 18 year rain-check!) I'm catching myself back up on your videos. I love this for keepsake quilts! All I've been able to find (other than repair then putting up as a wall hanging) is framing squares from the quilt. I can see this as another way to 'distribute' a favored but overly loved quilt amongst loved ones! ps: your projects are my favorite inspiration 'recipe' resource! Hugs
+rubymimosa Thank you so much. You can see I've been remiss in answering my youtube comments for a few days, but things are calming down now and I'm so happy to see you here again! Thank you, and that's a great idea for keepsake quilts! Working on tomorrow's video now. :) Patti
Beautiful technique! Now all I need is a dishwasher! Lol I didn't know there was a dishwasher safe Modpodge. We made these years ago for a church craft fair and varnished them. I'll have to tell the instructor about this. Thank you.
Thank you for your video I was really worried about washing a plate that was me this way now I know the extra steps I have to go watching your video to make my project special and Lasting
I realize this is an old video but Patti made me smile and say " Thank you, FINALLY someone else that crafts but can't/doesn't sew !!! ".. I am the only one in my family that can't sew ( this includes my adult son and daughter ) but then , they couldn't sing worth a flip and I could LOL .
+Deborah Clark Thank you Deborah! If you make some more I would love to see them-you can post pix on my upcycle with decoupage facebook page if you're on facebook. :) patti
+patioelf Can you believe I went to JoAnn fabrics to get the dishwasher safe mod podge and I ask one of the employees for help cause I couldn't find it. I told her they have one that is dishwasher safe, (she had no clue) Long story short, they apparently didn't have it which she said they carry ALL of them. So I bought the one with this same color label but it doesn't say dishwasher safe?? They had one with a purple label that said it was for glass but not dishwasher safe, it was a bummer visit to JoAnn fabrics.
Irma Brooks I hate when that happens! I have gone into craft stores asking for something, they say they don't carry it, I FIND it then go up to them and say, "Is this the one you don't carry?" LOL I do carry it on my website if you want Irma.I thought that they made the labels color coded depending on which Modpodge you got. If you got the one with the same color label, does that one say dishwasher safe? It might say it on the back. Patti
+patioelf I usually show them I found it also so they at least know they have it. I was thinking maybe the label was mismarked but I got on their web sight and found they had the dishwasher safe one with the same color label. I will probably order it off amazon. Thx Patti.
Hi Patti...Such pretty plates!.Like you i love shabby chic material and cant sew to save my life and have never enjoyed it anyway LOL.However ive got loads of material ive collected over the years and sure do know now what i am going to do with it in future. Thanks for the idea and Happy New Year 2017! x
Good Morning Patti Beautiful Plates* I have never heard of Mod Podge for dishwashers. I love your material. I have material also but don't sew :) I bet you are enjoying this cold weather !! enjoy your day Patti deezie
+Deneen Lotz I am SO enjoying this weather. Enough to take down the Christmas lights, LOL. So you are like me (are we surprised?) having material but not sewing. :) I had heard of that Mod Podge but I was so paranoid about doing the work then having it fall apart in the dishwasher. I like it! Enjoy your day too Deezie! Patti
That's so sweet about your daughter. That is very high praise right? I think plates are some of my favorite things to do, I want to do one for Christmas. :) Patti
Oh yes, high praise indeed. She is quite intrigued with my return to creative and artistic ventures. I look forward to the time when my skills are ready for plate decorating, just a beautiful item!!
Knew I’d come back to this! About to do a set for my DIL! ps: the doobly-do says this is sponsored and it doesn’t have any pre-roll ad. Just wanted to give you a heads up as YT has been so weird anymore
Beautiful! I usually try doing a few plates at a time. Can they still go into oven if not really wet? Would it be better to put on another quick cost before putting?
Dear Elf, Decades ago I purchased a decoupage kit from QVC. I wish I remembered the brand name of the crystal clear medium. I bought fabric and clear glass plates and that was my first decoupage experience. I don’t believe they were dishwasher safe. I think the best way to clean them was just the front trying to keep the back as dry as possible. I never used them.
I've seen some like these with tissue paper, napkins do u know if these will last or fall of after a few washes with the dishwasher mod podge or regular mod podge?
Im going to try making some thing ill try to make some for Christmas and some deer 🦌 and I'm going to try the jars so thank you for helping me make some things
They are all very pretty! Love the turquoise blue with the tiny flowers.. that is my favorite one! The yellows are also very pretty! They don't make much shabby chic in lavender or purple do they? That is my favorite color and I never seem to find much in that color :( But I do like turquoise & yellow also! Maybe when I can get some spending money for these I see about getting me some! Thank's.. Hugs :)
My pleasure Tammy...There are a few items in a shabby chic style with a very soft soft lavender but you're right, in general it's the pink hues, whites and cream colors with very pale greens. :) Patti
I don't have a traditional dishwasher, I have the draw. But we do have a gentle cycle, I wonder if that would work?? I will make a few plates over the holidays and see how I go. Thanks for sharing. 😊
I just spent over $50 to paint some checkerboard plates that looked AWFUL. Then I found this video and did my plates with fabric from checkerboard bandanas and they look like the came from Neiman Marcus, all for just $2.50 a plate. THANK YOU!!!! A question...do I need to let the oven cool down before putting the plates back in for the second bake? Is it important that the temperature rise gradually or will the plates crack if I put them in a hot oven?
That is a great story to read Anna! I'm so happy that worked out for you. Isn't it amazing what a little decoupage can do? As far as the oven, as long as the plates are never cold (like if they are being stored outside in the fall or winter) you should be fine putting them into any oven that's set to 175 or less. The reason I put them into a cold oven is more because of the timing (in addition to taking that extra step so they don't break) But what I do is put it into a cool oven and turn it on, by the time the oven is warmed up, the plate has warmed up (and dried) that much sooner, I then turn the oven off and leave it in for a little bit-by the time I'm done everything is dry. :) Thank you Anna, I loved reading your success story! Patti
Can you eat on these plates? I have look at other how to videos, and they say you can't put hot food on them. Is that true with the dishwasher safe Mod Podge?
I have done several plates with 3 coats of mod podge. I have placed them in the oven after the 3rd coating and my plates are sticking together some. What is the cause of this?
+Carla Kneisel Hi Carla and thank you! I am not sure but I do know they add different elements to each solution. You could test it but I haven't tried that yet. :) Patti
I am curious. Normally you can not use a decoupage plate for any hot food, but since these are safe in a hot dishwasher would they be okay to use for hot food? Thank you so much for sharing this video!! I have been wanting to decoupage with fabric but just didn't have the courage or knowledge...thank you for sharing yours!!
After you get your plates done....do you think you could use an clear epoxy to seal and waterproof your fabric made plates.... This might make them 100% dishwasher safe. Do you think this would work??? I want to make an entire service for 8. Thank you very much!! Doe South Texas
hi there these are lush,,, im wondering if u cud tell me the diff between ModgePodge and PVA ? i havet seen M,Podge in the shops, is it an american name 4 Pva???
+Joan Robinson Hello Joan, Mod Podge is different from PVA / they have different additives in it for different purposes. I know that Amazon does have a UK distributor and they sell all of the Mod Podges. Are you in the UK or closer to it than the States? I know they are trying to keep shipping costs down by having Amazon UK. Patti
Thanks so much for so creative ideas. I just purchased your book also. I have two questions. Can I use napkin or gift wrap to decoupage on glass. Is oven temperature 175 deg Fahrenheit or centigrade. Greatly appreciate hearing from you.
very interesting...what would you reccomend to create some background tiles or glass squares to use as a background on wall behind my stove?I cannot find any vintage black and white tiles to use anywhere so decoupage looks like a possibility..dont know if I should use clay tiles and use your flower pot method or find some glass flat squares and under coat with the fabric I find..what would you do?Thanks for your time.I wanted a glossy finish as needs to be cleaned from time to time.
+Farmers Granddaughter I am so sorry I just got your message today, I don't normally take this long to respond. Are you looking for the tiny glass squares to put back there or are the larger 4 x 4 tiles going to be in there. The reason I ask is because I do have a video on doing tiles, and I'm wondering if this might help you. There's a product called Triple Thick /it comes in a paint on form -it's clear-or a spray. It's the highest gloss top coat out there unless you were to use a 2 part resin top coat. The 2 part resin requires some practice -you can look up videos here on youtube for that if it interests you. Here's the video on the tiles. ruclips.net/video/GxNngmvYV1M/видео.html There is also a page called Mason Jar Madness and Decoupage on Facebook-if you friend them please tell them that I sent you. There are so many helpful people there, you could pose this question to them also. Then you will get a lot of different suggestions. :) Patti
+purpleshammrock Thank you! The back is not tacky at all. It came out feeling like fabric still oddly. So when I ran my fingers over it I could tell it was fabric. It's not as glossy as I thought it would be. More like a satin finish. Thank you again! Patti
another beautiful project! I'm wondering if you know, what would happen if we put the fabric on the top of the plate? I have a pretty red square plate, similar to your large ones, and I would like to put lace over top of it so the red peeks through. do you think I could get the same effect?
+w0rk0fG0d Hi and thank you! One thing you need to be careful about is using lace. I shopped and shopped for cotton lace and it was hard to find. Most laces are heat sensitive and the dishwasher water gets very hot-the lace may shrink or melt. If you're using it just for decoration you could probably do use the lace-I'm guessing you wouldn't be using it for food if you're going to have the lace on it though. You can then just use regular decoupage glue or fabric decoupage glue. :) Patti
+patioelf I was planning on using it as a decorative piece. I found the lace after a yard sale - it was on a very beautiful bassinet that wasn't sold and just sitting on the curb for the trash! It is so lovely but I also don't know how to sew so I'm saving it for a very special project. =D
That's great! Don't you love when you find a gem like that? Trash? The people clearly were not crafters. :) I'm so happy you took it in, and I'm with you....I don't sew but there are so many beautiful fabrics out there, like lace that I have to find ways to use. You'll be fine using yours as a decorative piece. :) If you're on Facebook I would love to see what you do. :) Patti

love your work. .
Wow, I learned something new today.thanks.
Lovely idea X you are super talented X bless you X
Thank you Dante!
Patti
Great tutorial! I want to glue fabric to a mini-bar surface. Do you think I could use a blow dryer and a fan, perhaps, to speed the curing process?
I absolutely love them ❤

Question: Do you know --Will it work as well if modpodging PAPER or a PHOTO to the glass plate??? Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! 😀😊☺
Do we paint after decoupage on the reverse to give it a finish or do we just put coats of modpodge. Loved your video
So pretty and so sorry for your loss.
+Leo's Universe aww, thank you for saying both. :)
Patti
Leo's Universe Morning b
Gave me lots of ideas,tks
Do you put them on a cookie sheet with the parchment paper in the oven?
I've seen some like these with tissue paper, napkins do u know if these will last or fall of after a few washes with the dishwasher mod podge or regular mod podge?
How do you finish the plate when it comes out of the oven? Do you just cut off the excess fabric?
New subscriber great video
Im going to try making some thing ill try to make some for Christmas and some deer 🦌 and I'm going to try the jars so thank you for helping me make some things

I don't have a traditional dishwasher, I have the draw. But we do have a gentle cycle, I wonder if that would work?? I will make a few plates over the holidays and see how I go. Thanks for sharing. 😊

Are there only certain fabrics you can use to make these dishes ?
Hi. Are there other brands that sell dishwasher-safe decoupage sealers you would recommend?
If some one ask for the clear sets can you get them and how much do they cost?
You are a GENOUS!!!!!
Can you eat on these plates? I have look at other how to videos, and they say you can't put hot food on them. Is that true with the dishwasher safe Mod Podge?

Hi there. Just reconforming the oven is switched off right n then we put the plate in the oven now what if the plate is nt oven proof.
I love your channel, I do have a question I want to know if I can use the outdoor decoupage in place of the dishwasher safe decoupage?
+Carla Kneisel Hi Carla and thank you! I am not sure but I do know they add different elements to each solution. You could test it but I haven't tried that yet. :)

Nice work💖
Can you mix fabric and paper on the same decoupage project?
Good job 💜💜💜
I am curious. Normally you can not use a decoupage plate for any hot food, but since these are safe in a hot dishwasher would they be okay to use for hot food? another beautiful project!
